Introduction:

Originally released in 1994 by SNK for Arcades running on Neo-Geo hardware, The King of Fighters '94 marked the beginning of a brand new team-based fighting game franchise where fighters from around the world compete in teams of three, with each team representing the country they are based in.

Unlike later installments in the series, the first KOF title does not allow players to customize their own teams, with pre-defined teams being used instead.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play through Original mode

In this step, you will need to play through the game's original arcade mode as you rack up a score of at least 200,000 points in total in addition to registering your highest score in the online rankings and beating the high score of the game. Bear in mind that the AI in this game can prove to be a challenge, even on the easiest difficulty, but with the tips provided, you will be able to finish this step easily.

Once this step is completed, you will unlock the following trophies:

Step 2: Reach a score of at least 50,000 or more in Hi Score mode

This step will have you head on over to the Hi Score mode and fight your way through various AI opponents as you aim for a score of at least 50,000 points or more in this mode in order to complete this task. Additionally, you can also unlock the score X trophies in this mode if you haven't already unlocked any of them in original mode already.

You will now have the following trophy unlocked once this step is completed:

Record score

The score has been posted to the online rankings.
You will unlock this trophy upon submitting your score to the online rankings in Original mode. Keep in mind that whether you choose to beat the game in its entirety, or if you choose not to continue should not matter at all as long as the score is submitted to the rankings.

You should also take precaution when submitting your score by waiting for the window to pop up asking if you want it to be submitted, which in this case, you should press to do so.
Mark high score

High score has been updated.
This trophy will be unlocked upon scoring at least 50,000 points or more in the game, despite it not being the lowest of the five high scores in the game's leaderboards. You can go for this when going for either the "Record score" and/or the "Score 200,000 points" trophies in Original mode, or the "HI SCORE Player" trophy in Hi Score mode, but the mode you choose to do it in does not matter at all.

In order to unlock this, and the trophies above it, you will need to achieve a score of at least 200,000 points or more. This can prove to be a bit challenging compared to later games in the series, even if the difficulty is set to level 1, as the AI packs up more of a challenge than usual. You should make interrupt saves every time you complete a round or a match, as continuing will reset your score completely, unlike in the Fatal Fury games.

When going for these trophies, you will be landing attacks such as normals, specials, and supers, to earn points during the match. You can also earn more points from the results screen at the end of each match, the value of which is determined depending on the following factors.
- Life
- Time
- Perfect
These factors are self-explanatory, "Life" is determined by how much health you have left by the end of the match, "Time" is determined by the time it took for you to complete the match, and "Perfect" will net you 10,000 points for every round you have perfected, for a total of 30,000 points if you achieved three perfect victories total in all three rounds. Be sure to go for obtaining as many perfect victories as you can to make the process of unlocking these trophies faster.

My personal recommendation when going for these trophies is to use the Korea team with Kim and Chang as your first two characters set in your team's order, as Kim's (charge) and Chang's +/ (charge) +/ attacks prove beneficial when attacking an opponent in anti-air or full screen situations, respectively, for those two characters.
HI SCORE Player

The score has been posted to the online rankings in the "HI SCORE MODE".
In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to post a score to the online rankings in Hi Score mode for the first time. The score I will recommend going for when doing this is at least 50,000 points or more, and as with original mode, I recommend using the Korea team with Kim and Chang as your first two characters set in your team's order.

Much like in previous games in the Arcade Archives library, Hi Score mode limits you to the game's default settings in the arcade version, which means that you cannot change the difficulty to make this easier, and if you press the while playing in this mode, you cannot back out of the pause menu unless you retry or exit Hi Score mode.

As with original mode, you should also be careful when submitting it in this mode too, as you might accidentally prevent yourself from doing so by pressing , so be sure to wait til the screen shows up and press to submit it.
