Introduction:

Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden is a hidden object adventure game by developer Artifex Mundi, released in 2012 and ported over to the PS4 in 2017. You play as an unnamed woman, who is searching for her missing fiance, a famous underwater explorer. She encounters a lost city and must overcome its dark mysteries to save the life of her love.

If you've played any Artifex Mundi games, you'll know what to expect with this list. Good news: there's no collectibles to worry about this time. Bad news: it's a two-playthrough platinum – one while solving all HO scenes, and the other solving all HO scene alternates. There are a few timed trophies, but you shouldn't need to worry about these, as the very first screen of the game has an HO scene in case you don't unlock the timed trophies naturally during your initial playthroughs.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Main Story – HO Scenes – Solve All Minigames

I recommend playing on Expert for your first playthrough, simply because the hint/skip meter on Casual will refill more quickly, meaning that your second playthrough will be much quicker, as you will be able to skip minigames. It's your call, though.

Play through the main story. Don't worry about any of the HO trophies; as long as you're avoiding D-Pad up at all times, you'll get most (if not all) of the HO scene trophies. If the “construct something useful” HO scenes count towards the miscellaneous HO trophies, then they will likely all come naturally.

Make sure you solve all the minigames. Some of them can be frustrating, but keep at it.  JMeeks' walkthrough has provided some good videos of the minigames to help you out.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Pathfinder
Escape Artist
Nuttin' like a furry friend
The Florist
Say cheese!
Prison Break
Save the day

And if you played on Expert:

Expert gamer

And the miscellaneous:

3-in-3
Puzzle Mastermind
Marksman
Quick-eye
Lady DIY
Winners don't skip
Never a skipper
DIY Master

Step 2: Main Story – Domino Scenes

Provided you unlocked Never a skipper and Expert gamer in the previous step, feel free to play on Casual, use as many hints and puzzle skips as you want. This will help you speed through this second runthrough.

Every time you come across a HO scene (even the “create something useful” ones), press D-Pad down to access the Domino minigame. See Game, set, match for more information about those.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Equally matched
Game, set, match

And likely:

Speed reach

Step 3: Play bonus chapter

Upon clearing the game once, you will unlock the bonus chapter, The Rebel. All you need to do is clear it, so feel free to play on Casual and use as many hints/skips as you want.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

The Rebel
Platinum

  • Unlock every Trophy.

    Congratulations!

  • Finish any mini-game in less than 1 minute

There are several minigames where you can unlock this with little effort, but it is possibly easiest unlocked in the first or third minigame.

The first minigame requires you to press some buttons (from left to right, 1-4: 3 / 1 / 2 / 4), then put together a five piece puzzle (you'll need to add a puzzle piece from your inventory). The L-shape goes in the top slot, the square in the top left, the T-shape on the right, and it's obvious where the other pieces go.

The third minigame requires you to open a safe in the cabinet in the photographer's studio. The combination itself is on a scrap of paper on the left table. You'll need to rotate the safe dial as indicated on the paper – you will see green check marks when you've hit the right symbol.

There's also a puzzle you need to put together in a briefcase soon after the two listed above. You can swap the pieces freely, and will have a picture next to the puzzle you can reference while putting it together.

  • Finish 3 mini-games in a row without using the Skip button

Assuming you're not skipping, this will unlock when you open the safe in the cabinet in the photographer's studio.

  • Finish all the mini-games without using the 'SKIP' option

Assuming you're not skipping, this will unlock when you solve the candle lighting puzzle in the shrine area near the end of the game.

  • Finish any hidden-object scene in less than 1 minute

All of the HO scenes in the game are randomized, so you'll need a bit of luck here. I recommend doing this on the first HO scene of the game, as it's located on the very first screen, and seems to have the least amount of objects that will be placed in the scene. After playing it once or twice you'll learn where all the items are and should be able to get this quite easily.

There is a HO scene midway through the game (see Escape Artist), which is a “construct a useful item” scene. There are five items you need to find, and they're always in the same location. I'm not sure if that scene counts towards this trophy. Just in case, once you've blown open the doors of the Albion Hotel, I would make a backup save so you can go back to it for this and the other HO miscellaneous trophies, just in case it does count.

Or, load up a HO scene on Casual and click around like crazy.

  • Finish 3 hidden-object scenes in a row without using any hints

Assuming you're avoiding D-Pad up, this will unlock when you solve the first HO scene in the Photographer's Studio.

  • Finish all hidden-object scenes without using any hints

Like with all of these games, avoid pressing D-Pad up, as that will activate the hint meter. This trophy will unlock when you solve the game's final HO scene – in the Marina off of the lobby of the Albion Hotel – where you get the empty vial.

  • Find 3 hidden-objects within 3 seconds

On any HO scene, take the time to locate three items, then click on them in rapid succession. Note that you can't make any mistakes between clicking on each item, or the count will reset.

You may get this naturally while solving the HO scene needed for Escape Artist.

  • Finish any hidden-object scene with less than 5 mistakes

Just take your time with any HO scene and you'll be fine. You may get this naturally while solving the HO scene needed for Escape Artist.

  • Finish a game of Domino in less than 1 minute

    See Game, set, match.

  • Finish half of all the games of Domino

See Game, set, match. This should unlock when you solve the first Domino scene in the dinosaur skeleton.

  • Finish all the games of Domino

Whenever you come across a HO scene, you can press D-Pad down to access a game of Domino. You'll need to match the pictures to build a pathway – there will be Eden symbols (they look like trees) that need to be touched by the dominoes (they don't need to be fully covered). Press to get new dominoes if you can't continue your path.

There's a neat trick that can make this infinitely easier, and will allow you to solve most of the Domino games in under 60 seconds each (Speed reach): take however long you want to solve the HO scene, leaving one or two items behind. At that point, press D-Pad down to launch the Domino game. The timer will reset, giving you 60 seconds to make your way towards one or two Eden symbols – and they'll usually be near the Domino starting point. I can confirm you can do this with every single HO scene in the game and still unlock all the Domino trophies.

  • Complete the game

    See Expert gamer.

  • Complete the game (Expert Mode)

When you start a new game, select Expert to lock yourself into this trophy. It will unlock during the end credits.

Secret trophies

  • Make your way through the maze in the Agricultural section

Story related and cannot be missed.

While searching for a way to enter the Albion Hotel, you will gather four blue puzzle pieces and must put together some plans in the photographer's studio. Pick up the completed puzzle and go to the Tree (must have drained the water first), then exit left to the Greenhouse, and you'll see your character holding the “map” you put together.

The solution is left / right x2 / left / right.

  • Free yourself from the Restraining Vines

Story related and cannot be missed.

Once you've blown open the doors to the Albion Hotel, you'll see a few cutscenes, then find yourself trapped in some vines. You'll need to solve an HO scene to get a ladle, then use the ladle with the puddle of green stuff on the ground and use the full ladle on the vines.

  • Give a cute squirrel a nut

Story related and cannot be missed.

In the back half of the game, you'll eventually gain access to the orangery. In the nearby greenhouse, you can drill a tree to get resin but you can also collect nuts from the tree once the resin bowl has been moved. In the orangery, you'll find an empty bowl on a control panel. Put the nuts in the bowl to get the key around the squirrel's neck and unlock this trophy.

  • Collect the Flower from Greenhouse

Story related and cannot be missed.

In the orangery, you will need to find two knobs to put on a control panel, and fix the water filter connected to the knob that's already there. Once you've done these things, turn on all three knobs and back out of the little control area. Zoom on the right side of the orangery screen to see a flower bloom. Pick it up to unlock this trophy.

  • Escape from the Laboratory

Story related and cannot be missed.

Once you've mixed the colored candles in the laboratory, try to exit and you will be locked in. Searching the lab will get you a cable and a fuse. Attach the cable to the laboratory exit and the fan, then use the fuse on the fan control panel so you can turn on the fan and pull open the exit.

  • Scare the beast blocking your way

Story related and cannot be missed.

Once you've mixed the incense, trying to leave the library will cause the octopus to show up and block your path. Between these three screens, you'll find two flash powder ingredients and a lighter. In the back of the library is a camera flash you can combine these ingredients with. Use the flash with the octopus for this trophy.

  • Save your child from the hospital (additional content)

When you clear the main story, you will unlock a bonus chapter, The Rebel. Simply complete it to unlock this trophy. You can play on casual and use as many hints/skip as many puzzles as you want.
