Abyss Odyssey is a 2D platform rogue like game with RPG elements, developed by the Chilean studio ACE team and published by Atlus. The game consists of fighting and exploring deeper into a randomly generated dungeon known as The Abyss.

If you die in the game then you lose all your items and are sent back to the beginning, however you keep all your XP and gold. This means you'll be stronger the next time through and can start off with better equipment. You can also utilise the souls of enemies you kill if you use your mana blast at the right time.

The objective of the game is to beat an entity known as the Warlock who is on the bottom floor of the Abyss. ACE team have stated that after a certain amount of players beat the Warlock, he will change into a harder form and this cycle will repeat till ACE team decide otherwise.

The games biggest downfall is that you can't save mid-Abyss, meaning you have to clear the whole game in one go if you choose to do so. Special camp tokens are available to find or purchase that allow various amounts of continues from the Altars you place them on (up to 3).

Overall the game is quite easy and fun and definitely worth a play, though co-op has forced friendly fire which the developers will be changing to optional in a future patch. See here for additional help: LINK

Step 1:
On the first playthrough just play normally and attempt to reach the bottom of the abyss whilst also collecting as much gold as possible from breakables and chests. You most likely won't succeed first time as your starting stats are quite low, levelling up in game greatly increases these. During this step you should unlock the Monk (unlock him by beating a black phantom mini-boss).

Step 2:
If you didn't already beat the game, now is the time to attempt to do so. On the way down also try to reach the Pincoya's lair to begin unlocking her, she requires 25,000 - 30,000 gold donated to unlock. Also you can attempt to beat the Shopkeeper and the Violinist.

Step 3:
After you beat the Warlock, a new starting area opens which you can select, from here you are able to re-enter the abyss and challenge Verbum Dei on the way down.

Step 4:
Levelling all the characters to unlock the skill points required for the 'Ultimate' trophies (Level 28).

Step 5:
Now is the time to clean up and attempt the 'Dream' trophies. Hopefully the living creature has appeared by this point, if not then he can be found when you first select a starting point for the abyss after beating the Warlock (yes he appears in the town).

14 trophies ( 11  )

  • Finish the prologue.

    Story related.

Before you can enter the Abyss properly you must go through this training section, during this you are completely invincible so practice the basics.

  • Defeat the shopkeeper.

Whenever you encounter a shopkeeper the bottom option will be to fight him, he is quite quick so forcing him to a corner and repeatedly attacking is your best bet. Doing so nets you the trophy and nothing else (though the developers have stated they will make him drop an item in a future patch).

  • Defeat Paganini, the Demon Violinist.

As you descend the Abyss and look at the map you will see a Violin symbol in some areas. In these areas you will find Paganini, he will offer you a random item stating something about a curse. Taking the item will yield a random item in return and Paganini promising to hunt you down later. At some point during the Abyss further down, Paganini will attack you. He's pretty easy to beat as his attacks rely on him playing his violin, meaning you have plenty of time to rush in and attack.

  • Defeat Verbum Dei.

After you beat the Warlock for the first time, you will be able to enter the Abyss from a second entrance. From this entrance you will notice a bulls head appear on the map, this is where Verbum Dei is located. Proceed here to fight him. He's a sluggish giant that summons a horse to attack every now and then. Attack him however you choose to, though I recommend changing to a long range attack soul (like the peacock) so you can keep him at a distance.

  • Defeat the Living Creature.

After you beat the Warlock, you will arrive in a limbo type of place that is black and white. From here you can select which entrance you would like to enter the Abyss from, choose the second entrance and hope that he appears. His appearance is random but most common in the 2nd entrance, this enemy is very hard for under levelled characters. Use whatever tactics work best for you here.

  • Defeat the Warlock.

    Story related.

Reach the bottom of the Abyss and beat the Warlock. My method for beating him was to attack so he dodged backwards until I forced him into the corner then repeatedly attacked with and , however you may prefer a different method.

  • Unlock the Pincoya.

Whilst descending the Abyss you may notice that one of the rooms on the way down is golden. Head to this area to find a room with some small flying enemies, soldiers, chests and a fountain. Selecting the fountain allows you to donate money to Pincoya, after you have donated between 25,000 - 30,000 gold then the Pincoya will be unlocked as a playable character.

  • Capture a level 10 enemy.

    See Dream Master

  • Capture a level 25 enemy.

    See Dream Master

  • Capture a level 40 enemy.

This trophy is somewhat misleading as you don't actually have to capture the level related souls, you can buy them from the merchants and the trophy will still unlock. To catch a soul your character must be above a certain level then use your mana attack to finish off the enemy, this will allow you to pick up the soul they leave behind.

Here is a list of all the souls available so far in the game and their required capture levels, Monster Name followed by required character level to capture:

    Mummy - 5
    Burning Mummy - 6
    Bauta (Fancy Mask) - 5

  • Uncover the Warlock's secret.

As you travel through the Abyss you will pick up journal pages as a random drop from enemies, I believe page 20 unlocks this trophy.

  • Equip Katrien with 3 fully upgraded special attacks.

    See Ultimate Pincoya

  • Equip the Ghost Monk with 3 fully upgraded special attacks.

    See Ultimate Pincoya

  • Equip the Pincoya with 3 fully upgraded special attacks.

For every 3 levels you gain via XP you are granted a skill point. At the altars scattered around, you can equip skills. Pressing on a skill allows you to spend a skill point on that skill (Attack/Defense/Mana). Fully maxing 3 skills via 3 skill points each will unlock the trophy, you need to be a minimum of level 28 to have enough skill points.
