Introduction

This is a general strategy guide to completing all campaign missions in TIER1 mode under the par times for Medal of Honor. Completing all missions under the target time will unlock the trophy "Conspicuous Gallantry"

Singleplayer: Finish every level in the game on Tier 1 mode under par time

TIER1 is basically a challenge mode where you need to complete the campaign under a specific target time. In this mode, there are NO CHECKPOINTS. If you die, you have to start over. This makes it very exciting and I'd say is the main attraction of the campaign. In my guide below, I've listed out the target times for each mission (also appears on your screen during the mission), as well as my "checkpoint" times at specific events or intervals during the mission, which you can compare to see if you are on par. My times are definately not the fastest around, I've included them only to serve as a guideline for you. The mission which you should pay particular attention in my opinion, should be Mission 5 "Belly of the Beast" where I completed it only with 1 minute to spare including the ending scene and this mission is pretty difficult and drawn out.

General Strategy

1. Movement: Move fast (but safely) if possible at all. I've realized that if you keep moving towards the next objective (even if it hasn't appeared) the game sort of forces your team to become supersoldiers and their shots become more accurate and deadly in order to keep up with you (that, or your teammates teleport, which is rare). I know because my first playthrough was on Easy and I can see a difference.

2. Freezing Time: Headshots and Knife kills stop the timer for 2 seconds. 3 Headshots in a Row grants +5 seconds. 5 enemies killed in quick sucession gives another +5 seconds. Achieving a double kill awards you +6 seconds. On the top left of your screen you will see a meter. I call this the Streak meter. All the above actions will fill the meter somewhat temporarily because it drains very quickly. If you managed to fill the meter with a quick succession of moves listed above, you get an additional +5 sec bonus.

3. Ammo Conservation: In TIER1 mode, there is virtually no ammo replenishment unlike other difficulties. In every mission your most powerful and efficient weapon is most likely your starting M4 Rifle because it has ACOG sights. Picking up a decent secondary weapon like the AK-47 or PKM LMG (unless you have the M16 Red Dot Sight) is useful and these can be use in close quarters combat as opposed to wasting the M4's ammo.

Mission Guide

Mission 1 "First In" Target Time: 25:00

Checkpoints:

- Flank MG 4:00

- Fake Tariq 8:00

- My Total: 18:00

Tip: In the building where you turn off the lights, move quickly and sprint (the enemies won't shoot even if you do) and knife everyone in the building.

Mission 2 "Breaking Bagram" Target Time: 30:00

Checkpoints:

- Hangar 12:00

- My Total 22:00

Tip: Right at the beginning jump down the vertical stretch of the drain and head right and move forwards. Keep an eye on the RPG on upper left. This way you'll sneak behind the lot of enemies and kill them with ease.

Mission 3 "Running with Wolves..." Target Time: 20:00

Checkpoints:

- Tag both trucks 14:00

- Return to ATV 16:20

- My Total 18:00

Tip: You've got a sniper rifle, use it to get headshots

Mission 4 "Dorothy's Bitch" Target Time: 17:30

Checkpoints:

- Destroy trucks 4:30

- Ambushed by lone enemy 7:00

- My Total 13:08

Tip: You can shoot even before you are given the cue to save time and progress forward.

Mission 5 "Belly of the Beast" Target Time: 25:00

Checkpoints:

- Reach DsKH (Scene) 8:20

- DsKH explodes: 12:30

- Reach booby trapped hut 16:30

- Total: 24:16 (It's not over until the ending scene ends!)

Tip: Run...Ruuuuuuuuuun! Keep moving and do it quickly! The last section where you defend yourselves against enemies coming down the hills is the make-or-break section of this mission so getting there quickly and doing your best is key.

Pickup a PKM Light Machinegun from one of the enemies at the back on your way through the village, this comes after a comment about going right into Pakistan and passing a destroyed tank. Replace your shotgun with it because the shotgun's useless and the PKM has tons of ammo.

Note: Sometimes a PKM drops from another fight from the second wave of enemies further in the village too.

When you eventually reach that last section and move into the second hut, stay at the right window, ignore any requests for help and just shoot all enemies within your sight. When the RPGs have blown open the front wall, retreat to the back of the rear wall, meaning you're "outside" the hut and aim through the windows again while crouched. The rear wall then gets blown off in half and by now you probably ran out of ammo with your primary weapon so switch to your PKM and also beware of enemies that flank you and run down the sides.

For a detailed section by section guide, do refer to dz06lt's walkthrough.

Mission 6 "Gunfighters" is not required/available in TIER1 mode

Mission 7 "Friends from Afar" Target Time: 15:00

Checkpoints:

- None

Tip: Very easy mission. Early on you can use  to switch optics type and use it spot all future objectives and began sniping at them immediately. The mission is very easy.

Mission 8 "Compromised" Target Time: 12:30

Checkpoints:

- Voodoo injured 5:00

- My total 9:00

Tip: The early stage of the game is a good chance to build streaks and earn yourself some extra time. The tricky parts of this mission are when you fallback and are open to enemy fire, you should know its time to fallback when your team throws smoke grenades, immediately make a run for it and be the first (let your team take the hits). A few times I had a very good streak going and when I was at the second defending position I clocked in at only 0:25, only to be hit by an RPG when falling back to the third position. Overall its still fairly easy.

Mission 9 "Neptune's Net" Target Time: 15:00

Checkpoints:

- Cleared the camp 3:45

- Discovered 7:00

- Reach hut 12:30

- My total 14:00

Tip: Should be an easy mission because you get to knife and stealth headshot alot of ppl in this mission. During the part where you are discovered by enemies who shoot flares, you can opt to take cover behind a wall of rocks on the right, or one of the smaller rocks directly infront and make your way up. Don't take too long or you'll be flanked. At the top of the hill, take cover from afar and remember that you can actually use your NODs when the flares die down. Once you make it to the hut at the top you should be done.

Mission 10 "Rescue the Rescuers" Target Time: 28:30

Checkpoints:

- Meetup with Voodoo/Preacher 8:00

- Find Rabbit's Plate 15:30

- My total 23:11

Tip: This is a hard one. You should be able to handle the mission up till entering the cave with Patterson (where Hernandez gets shot). The dark/flare ambush in the cave is quite tricky. What I did was run to Patterson to trigger the ambush, then quickly run backwards. There is a small rock on the right, if you're facing the ambush which you can use for partial cover.

After meeting up with Voodoo and Preacher, from here on, ammo is gonna be a concern. You'll want to save your primary weapon (the one with ACOG scope) for the last fight against the AAA camp, so your secondary weapon should be something decent like an AK-47, AK-74SU or PKM LMG. You can also opt for the Dragunov SVD that lies on the ground immediately as you come out of the cave. After meeting up, proceed from camp to camp eliminating all enemies, beware of grenades and hidden enemies. Inch around, don't be hasty. At the final camp, I ran out of AMMO on both weapons, so I was down to using my pistol against 3 RPG-wielders and a MG nest. You don't want to end up in that predicament. Use grenades to flush out enemies if you have trouble drawing them out. It may allow your allies to take them out too.

If you want an alternate strategy for this mission then you can refer to dzo6lt's walkthrough.

Hope this guide has helped you in achieving the trophy "Conspicuous Gallantry". Any comments or suggestions are welcomed.

@Wozamil: My checkpoint there says I destroyed them :)

@OlympiakosNYC:Truth be told, I don't know. I have only done Mission 6 and the last Mission on hard. And that was after I completed TIER1. I completed the campaign on Easy and I guess I managed to huge jump from Easy to TIER1.

Majority of the missions on TIER1 are manageable as long as you are quick but cautious. You may die sometimes but it may be more down to being unlucky because you get hit by a stray RPG there, or a quick succession of accurate bullets here.

The only tricky ones are Mission 5 and Mission 10 because they're over 20mins long and dying means restarting from scratch, so its very frustrating. Ammo conservation/secondary weapons is also an issue in these two missions.

I was actually referring to the enemies around the trucks, not the trucks themselves on mission 4. You can just shoot everyone, or let them quietly walk past you before planting the charge. I choose for the latter method and still had a couple minutes to spare

Sorry what, am I missing something? I don't recall any part about planting charges on trucks, only using SOFLAM for air strike. Then next up is an uphill settlement where I killed everyone. My time was 13:08 so yeah I had minutes to spare too.

I believe that they are talking about the mission where Deuce and Dusty sneak into the Taliban base and plant recon things on the trucks.

The manual seems to suggest that Tier 1 is the same as Hard but without ammo resupply and enemy bullets do more damage. You also lose your snap to aiming (which is even available on hard).

Yeah thats what i thought it would be, usually u dont get the snap aim on hard so i think this will prob be the difference along with checkpoints which will probably REALLY annoy me as i hate rushing to set times and get worse at the game, plus i dont like to spend ages on games so if i die and have to go back right at end of levels i will probably be buying yet another pad

It is rather painful to die near the end of a mission when your time was going to be under par.

you have checkpoints in your guide, does this mean that if you get that far you can die and start from there or is it straight back to the beginning?

Tier 1 really isn't that bad. I've only died two or three times amd I just finished Belly of the Beast. As long as you move at a steady clip amd don't run and gun like an idiot you should be fine. I also suggest changing your firing mode to single shot on your rifles, not only to conserve ammo but to also focus more on chaining headwind streaks together.
