Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection - Road Map and Trophy Guide

Recommended Posts

Overview:

-Estimated trophy difficulty: 3/10

-Offline: 35

-Online: 0

-Approximate amount of time to Platinum:10 hours

-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1

-Number of missable trophies: None

-Glitched trophies: None

-Do cheat codes disable trophies?: No

Each trophy belongs to one game available in this collection of classic games. Not every game has it's own trophy so don't assume you'll have to do something in each. In addition to these trophies, there are others that require you to view all art, videos, play every title, etc. These can be easily attained when they are all available (see the trophy guide for details).

You can do these trophies in any order you desire to as none of them can be missed. Cheat codes and level select codes can be used freely and do not disable trophies. There is a save feature for every game in this collection and they are all separate. Use them to your advantage if you get to a spot you've never been to before or if you get a good set up.

Most of the trophies are regarded as simple except for "Easy as Pie" and "Yatta!" I personally found "Easy as Pie" to be easy but I struggled with "Yatta!" It just depends on how quickly you can catch on or use strategies to your advantage.

Trophy Guide:

000.jpg  Platinuminary (P)

Earn all other trophies for Sonic's Collection.

Congratulations on the Platinum.

001.jpg Get Rich(B)

Alex Kidd: Collect 1,000 in currency

You can get this simply by playing the game. However, the way I did it was all on the first level. Don't worry about going into the buildings. You do not even have to destroy any cars or planes either. Open every chest in the level (minus the one I think you need the pogo stick for) and then die. Repeat and you should get the trophy.

Single coin = 10 and money bags = 100.

002.jpg Don't Die (B)

Alien Storm: Reach Mission 3 without losing a life

Options -> easy and max lives. I used the robot for the speed, but any character really will do. Try not to get hit too many times getting to the boss guy as he did quite a bit of damage to me. Remember, you do not have to beat mission 3 without losing a life, just get to mission 3. That means only having to beat mission 1 and 2.

003.jpg Enter the Beast (B)

Altered Beast: Collect 100,000 pts or higher by the end of the first level

Be sure to hit every enemy that carries a power up and make sure you collect that power up. By getting through the level you should easily have at or over 100,000 points.

004.jpg Holy Water(B)

Beyond Oasis: Unlock the Water Spirit (Game called The Story of Thor in EU Version)

Head north after getting off the boat. You'll face several enemies. Once these are all taken care of, you'll have a brief conversation with someone. After this you should be outside of a house. Head left. Keep heading left, you'll have to go slightly up or down, but head left. You'll soon find yourself near a bridge heading north. Go across and you'll find yourself in the castle.

Head up and right once inside and go through the stairwell. Now head south, west, then north and enter those stairs. You'll be in the throne room now, so talk with the king and you'll get the red key. Head back to where you started outside the building.

Head east. If you get lost, hit L1 to see the map. You want to get to the flag. You'll go up some steps, fight a couple of guys possibly, and eventually head south and then west to find the water temple. Go inside.

The next few rooms will require a key to advance, so kill enemies and open chests for them. There is a room with puddles of slime. If you head left and up you'll find the key in the possession of the last red one. The next room just continually jump and head north to beat the rushing water.

You'll eventually come to the boss. Defeat him (pretty easy) and keep heading north to get the trophy.

005.jpg Stealing Points(B)

Bonanza Brothers: Reach 40,000 points on the first level

Easiest method to get this is as follows. Start off by shooting the guy to the right. Keep heading that way and you'll see a shut door with a cop on the other side. Open the door and it will knock into the cop, knocking him out. This gives you 1,000 points. Go back a few steps the way you came and the door should shut. Go open it again for another 1,000 points. Repeat until you have the trophy.

006.jpg Easy as Pie (B)

Columns: Get 20,000 points only on Easy Mode

Set the game on easy and select easy mode when prompted. This could take you a few attempts to get it as the game speeds up at a certain point. Just match 3 like colors in a row, column, or diagonal. The game will speed up, but as long as you keep up with it it will slow back down some.

*You can pause the game and the whole screen is still shown. If the game gets too fast for you, pause so you can map out where to put pieces.

*Tip by Lamplitersniper* Play Columns on Easy then go to "menu" then 1P game and then "novice". That version is slower and way easier then the "arcade" version on easy-easy.

007.jpg Hardly a Hero (B)

Comix Zone: Complete first episode

This game can be frustrating and difficult. However, if you want you can use this cheat to get infinite life and then just play through the episode.

On the main screen go to options, and then jukebox. Hit the circle button on the following numbers in order:

3, 12, 17, 2, 2, 10, 2, 7, 7, 11

You'll hear audio confirmation in the form of OH YEAH!

*Tip submitted by yazter* Go to options and then jukebox. Once there, press circle on the following numbers: 14, 15, 18, 5, 13, 1, 3, 18, 15, 6. An "Oh Yeah!" marks correct code entry. Then, press circle on track 3 then start the game. This should automatically unlock the trophy without actually playing the game.

008.jpg Get Ahead(B)

Decap Attack: Collect 5 Bonus Coins

Bonus coins are found by destroying the statues like the 2 to your left when you start the game. There is typically 1 coin per level, however level 1-3 has 2. Not a hard game, so this shouldn't prove too difficult.

009.jpg Communication is Key (B)

Ecco: Talk to another dolphin

Swim to the right and use your sonar on the other dolphin. That's it.

010.jpg Taste Like Tuna(B)

Ecco: The Tides of Time: Eat 200 fish

Very easy trophy, but boring to get. Takes around 5 minutes of doing this for it to unlock. When you start you can go up a screen slightly to the right. Swim up and you should see a school of orange fish. Swim up and down using the dash and eat until the trophy shows up. There are many different schools around, so take your pick as well. You can also play through the game and eat fish as you go by them.

011.jpg  Suit up (B)

E-SWAT: Obtain the Combat Suit (Complete Mission 2)

Go to options and max lives and play it on easy. Get through mission 1. It's not terribly difficult. Remember you can do a high jump by pushing Up along with jump. Crouching and shooting is so very important. The end boss is a helicopter who has a planned out route. It shouldn't take that much effort. Now to mission 2. From the start, head right and take your first up. Some have had trouble with where to go up at, here's a picture to help.

7ectJNj.jpg

Go all the way and take your last right. Head to the right and you'll encounter 1 enemy, which you should be able to take out. You'll see a spot that you can high jump into toward the end, so do that. Your goal now is to work right to left, left to right. There are only 2 types of enemies you'll face here, both of which can be easily dealt with by shooting while crouched. Make your way all the way to the left, then drop down. Now make your way to the right, and drop down. Repeat until you are heading right and there is an arrow with GO on it before the gap. Jump across and head right. Now you want to jump over to the conveyors closest to the camera, make your way right by jumping, then jump over the fence behind you. 2 bosses will drop now, simply stay in the middle of the area and shoot while crouched. One will occasionally crouch and shoot back which you can block by shooting. You should not get hit at all if done right. Also, the bosses suits will blow up before they actually die, don't be fooled. At the next screen you'll get the trophy.

012.jpg Don't Get Lost(B)

Fatal Labyrinth: Progress to the fifth level of the labyrinth

The easiest way to get this trophy is to save after each level. Then if you die trying to find the next staircase, load the game and go another way. There is a theory the stairs are north and east from the point you start at. I found this to be not accurate at all, at least in my game. Perhaps try that direction first and if it's not found, load and go another. *If you run low on health, find a safe spot and walk back and forth to regain lost health.

013.jpg Getting Chicks(B)

Flicky: Collect 80,000 points

This was hard for me too, but once I got the hang of it it was a breeze. Your main goal should be getting the necessary number of chicks to the exit all in one chain. The quicker you do this, the more bonus points you get for time. I'm not 100% sure on the time, but I think under 15 seconds you get a 20k point bonus. The bonus round will be after the first 2 levels. Try to get all of the chicks as this will get you a 10k bonus, along with the points for each chick. I found this video on YouTube, post by mint301, that shows this strategy that I outlined here. You do not need the whole video, just watch 0:09 - 1:15.

018.jpg Twinkle Twinkle(B)

Ristar: Collect 5 Yellow Stars

These stars are the ones that give you health. They are in chests, holes, and can be found by headbutting walls. Play through the game and search these places. Should take you about 3 levels worth to have the trophy.

*Tip submitted by ReaperZer0* You can use the cheat code MIEMIE to allow the game to show where hidden items are. A blue star will be shown where one is located. He stated only having to play 2 levels to get the required 5 stars.

021.jpg Complete Chaos(B)

Sonic The Hedgehog: Obtain a Chaos Emerald

In the first level, get to the end with at least 50 rings. There you'll find a giant ring and you want to jump into it. Now you'll need to guide Sonic down and to the left. If done right, you'll see an emerald with gems surrounding it. Try and have Sonic hit a whole line of gems and fall into the emerald.

*If you want to, save after jumping into the ring. If you fail to get the emerald, load your game to try again.

023.jpg Flicky to the Rescue(B)

Sonic 3D Blast: Rescue 20 Flickies.

Flickies are found after defeating an enemy. There are a total of 10 per level and you can have 5 with you at once. When you have some with you, you'll want to find the giant rings. Jump and grab onto one to rescue those with you. It will take 2 levels of play to get this trophy.

026.jpgThree Times a Charm(B)

Streets of Rage: Complete 1st Level using all 3 characters

Go to options and max lives and set it to easy. Now simply beat the first level with each of the 3 characters. Once you beat the level, reset the game and use another. *I save my special for the boss as it makes it much quicker.

014.jpg Garden Gnomes(B)

Golden Axe: Collect 20 magic power-ups

This will most likely take 3 levels worth of play to collect all 20. When you see a small enemy (thief) with blue on, hit him as many times as you can. Usually this is 2-3 times and each time he will drop a magic power up.

015.jpg Tower Up(B)

Golden Axe II: Complete Tower Level

You need to keep the game set on normal, however you can max lives. Tower level is level 3 and you must complete this level to get the trophy. Simple, good playing strategy is all that's needed here. Save magic for when you really need it.

017.jpg TGIF(S)

Kid Chameleon: Collect Maniaxe

This is a simple silver trophy to get. The power up you want is located on level 4. Power ups are gotten from some "P Blocks." Not all will drop a power up, but there a numerous ones. Nothing matters in the first 3 levels, so just complete them quickly. When you get to level 4, just hit every P block and you'll find the power up. *One part did confuse me for about a solid minute...it really drove me nuts. One of the power ups makes you look like a knight and it allows you to climb walls by continuously hitting Circle.

020.jpg True Ninja Skills (S)

Shinobi III: Complete first level without using continues

Go to options and put it on easy and max shurikins. This is extremely easy to get done. For regular enemies be sure to duck and throw, or jump and throw depending on the enemy location. At some point in the level there are spikes that go up and down. Just be patient and don't make a bad jump. There are a few enemies that have large swords and do a charge up attack, and then the attack shoots out at you. Time the attack right and jump over it, then attack him.

The boss of the level is easily taken care of as well. Let him get close to you and he will attempt to hit you. At this time, the boss exposes himself. Take that time to hit him. He'll charge at you so jump over him. Repeat this process from left to right until he is defeated.

*Tip submitted by MMDE* (untested by myself)

Invincibility:

At the title screen, choose Options. In the Options menu, move down to the "S.E." command and use the B button to play these songs in order: "He Runs," "Japonesque," "Shinobi Walk," "Sakura," and "Getufu." Exit the Options screen and start your game. You are now invincible!

Unlimited Shurikens:

At the Options screen, set SHURIKENS to 0, then set SOUNDS to "Shuriken". Highlight SHURIKENS again and the 0 will change into an infinity symbol.

025.jpg Get to the Chopper (S)

Super Thunder Blade: Score over 1,500,000 points in the first level

Go to options and change it to HARD. Max your lives out. Now in game just stay in the top left corner of the screen and shoot non-stop. Nothing will hit you and your points will climb. The boss can and will hit you.

The boss you'll fight is simple. Do a large circular motion while shooting the whole time. Nothing should hit you and you'll destroy him.

Toward the end you'll start to fly over a carrier. I did not have the trophy at this point (had around 1.2 million). Just go left to right and shoot. It'll unlock shortly.

027.jpg Good Day Mate (S)

Streets of Rage 3: Unlock Roo the Kangaroo as a playable character

Go to options and set it to easy and max lives. You're aiming at beating level 2 to get this trophy. You'll fight a clown boss as well as Roo. Simply defeat the clown boss and not Roo, and he will run away.

028.jpg Super Charged (S)

VectorMan: Collect 500 photons

If you are decent at this game, play it as normal collecting as many of the "*" icons as you can. You'll have this around level 4.

*Tip submitted by Jynxi* From the start head right until you have no choice but to drop down. Drop or jump down and you should see a canon to your right on the wall. The small area right next to it (on the right) has 4 mosquitoes that will swarm around. These will always respawn as long as you move away and come back. I ran to the right until your character stops, then move back left. Not every mosquito will drop photons, but it's enough to get the trophy. You'll lose a couple of lives, but you'll start right back there and it will keep count. It will take most likely 15-20 minutes with this method.

029.jpg Can You Dig It? (S)

VectorMan 2: Reach Scene 11

When you get into the game, pause it and press this sequence:

, :right:, :square:, :triangle:, :square:,, :left:, :square:,, :start:.

Move the first line to the right until you see Dig 2. Pick Dig 2, and you have the trophy.

030.jpg Blast Processing (S)

Play all Genesis™ Titles

You can quit the game right after you see the SEGA load screen. Let it disappear, and quit out and pick the next one. This should all be done in one session.

031.jpg Master the System (S)

Unlock Everything

At the main screen, hit :triangle: and it will take you to a screen with items that have locks on them. It will tell you what to do to unlock it. Most of these coincide with other trophies, however check what ones you need to be sure.

*The one for Sonic 2 requires beating the first boss with 2 players. You can do this solo by having another controller on. When you get to the boss, jump or hit the boss with controller 2 at least once. Then beat him as normal with your main controller.

032.jpg No Life (S)

Watch Every Video

You don't have to sit through each video in it's entirety. You can start the video and then back out. You'll unlock the videos by working toward the trophy "Master the System."

033.jpg Critique (S)

View all Artwork

On the main screen, hit :circle: to get to the musuem. You'll need to hit :cross: on each box art and case art. Do this for all the games and the trophy is yours.

034.jpg Only in the '80s (S)

Play all Arcade Titles

Go into the Extra's Menu and start every arcade title. These are unlocked by various requirements. The game tells you what is needed if one is locked. You'll get these all unlocked by going for the trophy "Master the System."

016.jpg  Saved by Magic (G)

Golden Axe III: Use magic 10 times

You will get this trophy most likely during the 3rd level. Make sure to use one magic vial at a time. Whenever you see a blue thief, hit him as many times as possible as he will drop a vial each time. Also, treasure chests can contain vials.

019.jpg  Yatta! (G)

Dr. Robotnik's M.B.M.: Complete the game

I'd recommend trying to get to the end without using a password, however using one is the quickest method. By playing through the game you'll learn the ins and outs of it and be more skilled when you go against Robotnik.

To use the code to skip to the last level, go to continue and enter: Yellow, Has Bean, Blue, Blue. The has bean is the orange character.

Move fast! If you don't, you're more than likely just delaying your loss.

*Tip submitted by hydrophobicFish* You can hit the Playstation button and it will pause the game, but you can still see the field. It'll give you as long as you need to determine your exact move.

022.jpg  A Different Tail (G)

Sonic 3: Collect 100 rings with Tails anywhere on Angel Island Zone

This is an easy gold trophy. Start a new game and select to play as Tails only. Now just collect a total of 100 rings on the first level. At one point the boss will scorch the level...that's not the end of the level so don't worry. Keep going and you should be able to get 100 rings without much trouble. Oh, and don't get hit if you can help it.

024.jpg  Lots of Zeros (G)

Sonic Spinball: Get 10,000,000 points in the first level

Another pretty easy gold trophy. You should be able to start playing and learn what to hit and do to get points. Remember you can control Sonic some while shooting all over the place; use this to your advantage. Getting an emerald is worth 500,000 so try to get as many as you can. You can die and keep the score going. All the points you've acquired in that one life are added onto your current point total, and you're given another life. You will run out of lives, however this gives you many chances to get the 10,000,000 needed.

Yeah I even started to think I was doing it wrong and thought it might have been like Streets of Rage 3 where one level seems like multiple levels even though I didn't remember that being the case so I played through multiple levels with all characters before resetting and still had no luck. But it finally did unlock after more attempts. It actually ended up popping up midway through the first level so don't ask me what was going on

The annoying Fatal Labyrinth one is looking like it is going to be the one that stands between me and the platinum but like a few others by luck I will probably get it. Have not even got beyond level 2 since my steps don't want to follow the up and to the right theory :p Mean Bean Machine was easy and that is the one I thought would cause me a problem not Fatal Labyrinth.

Good guide. All I gotta add tips for 3 games:

For Altered Beast you NEED to take wolf form by the first time the boss enemy shows up with his lightning. If you haven't got the WOLF from by that first meeting, you will NOT get the required score (Time plays a big role in the scoring system). Just reset the game to restart the level, or save it when you just start off the level and then reload it in case of failure (much faster to reload rather then reset). In order to have taken wolf form quickly, you need to destroy all the wolves (or whatever the heck those mythological animals are) and collect their power-ups. Then, the boss will show his true form. Stay in front of him, somewhere in the center of the screen but closer to him than to the back of the screen. Stay there, DO NOT move and hit him with your projectiles. I think the sweet cheating spot is right before the 2nd lion head that drops down. So, this trophy is a pretty fixed affair. It's not a try until you get it type of trophy.

For Labyrinth (by far one of the worst games of the compilation, not because of the difficulty but its stupid items menu). If you're STUCK, step on every tile by the side(s) with no borders on them, and while facing the outside of the room, hit blindly with the square button. If nothing happens move to the next tile until you discover a Secret hidden door. And I do not recommend avoiding fighting enemies. At the very contrary, you want to ENGAGE with the early enemies, because your XP level will go up and will make the tougher enemies later on easier. Plus they will give you items. Remember to press X to reach your items menu when TOUGH enemies appear. This game will kill you very easily and very often, so, after a good fight ALWAYS SAVE. remember to equip the strongest weapon (you get a sword and an axe later on). The axe is much more powerful. Also I recommend saving the weapon upgrade scroll for the axe, since you'll be using the axe that has a damage of 7 pts by default (with no upgrading), while the sword only has a 2 pts damage with the upgrading from the scroll. Remember red ring must be equipped when fighting and if you're close to DEAD, walk around the edges of the room while the strong enemies are chasing you and equip the green ring until your HP goes up again, then equip back the red ring and fight. I also noticed a tile that turned red, when I stepped on it, and it wasn't even a side tile. It was on the inside of the room. I do not know if it acted as a switch for a secret door, but it gets to show you that it's easy to get stuck in this game, UNLESS:

1) you always try hitting for a secret door like described above, or:

2) step on every single title if there really is no way out.

For Dr. Robotnik's mean bean machine, try getting the same-colored beans in groups of 3, and when you get the 4th one DO NOT put it together with the other 3 just yet. put some other color on top of the 3 and the put the 4th and the 5th on on top of that so when you take out the color that it's blocking them, the top 1 or 2 beans will drop and form a combo. Your only hope in this game is to form combos of at least 3 chains. otherwise it's hopeless even on "EASY". It might be hard to understand but if you watch this guy: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8dS_L5DNtE]:[/ame], then you will know how to play this game. He's playing the final boss level on the hardest setting. See how he purposely separated the green and the blue beans in the beginning while he could have easily taken them out? Chain combos are your only hope. I wish I knew about this password before doing all 13 stages on my own. Man, that was frustrating.

This was by far the easiest platinum I've ever gotten. Roughly 5-6 hours of work, no real challenge.

However, the Mean Bean Machine was a little bit of work, but I have an additional tip:

You can hit the Playstation button and it will pause the game, but you can still see the field. It'll give you as long as you need to determine your exact move.
