Introduction:

The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga is a compendium of the first 5 games on the The King of Fighters franchise. It includes the first 4 canonical entries and 1 special, non-canonical entry, which for many are the best games in the entire franchise. These games are a real trip to the past as all of them are the original Arcade versions. This Guide will explain how to earn all the trophies on the collection.

Walkthrough:

As this is a fighting you can do the majority of the trophies when you first start playing in any order as every game is available from the start. As such, I will divide this Roadmap by games and challenges. There are a couple of trophies tough you will need to complete after a certain requirement is done in order to be able to earn these. Refer to Step 3 for more information. The very first thing you should is activate the Auto Save option. This will allow the game to save automatically after you exit any game or finish a Challenge. You can and should play in difficult level 1 for an easier time, especially on the first games. You can change difficulty on the main collection menu on option, which will affect all 5 games. You will need to play and finish all 5 games with the majority of the teams but each will detail what you need to do on each game in order to get all trophies.

A couple of tricks worth mentioning, which will be reference in quite a few trophies will be as follow:

The "not losing a match" trophies trick:

A match in KOF is referred as the full fight between 2 teams. This means you are able to loose rounds in match but not all 3 rounds/characters. A few trophies request for the player to beat the game or games without losing a match. To make things easier on you, you can use a second controller to challenge the Player 1 if you are about to lose, defeat Player 2 and continue, which will effectively give you an unlimited amount of tries. Use this to earn difficult trophies, like (B) One Shot at Glory.

The Continue trick:

On the contrary, there are a few trophies were you need to beat an enemy with a certain character, like (B) Scion of the Flame. If you happen to lose the round, you can lose the whole match on purpose, continue and met the conditions to earn the trophy.

Step 1: The King of Fighters 94

In the first game of the saga you will need to beat the game with all teams, no exceptions. Please do note you need to beat the game without any continue with the USA team and England team.

Question:

I was thinking about picking this up as my first venture into KoF. Figured it's on sale for under $4, so why not start at the beginning haha. You mentioned difficulty levels. How much do those actually impact the difficulty? Does level 1 truly make them easy, or is it like MK Arcade where it's basically a placebo effect, and nothing's really changed?

Sorry for the late reply. Hope you actually got the game. To answer your question, I feel the game does indeed gets easier the lower the setting is. And yes, I perfectly know what you are talking about with MK, at least the first 3 games, no matter the difficulty setting, sometimes it appeared the CPU was reading your mind and acted accordingly.

Now, here is the thing, the first 2 games will be harder. Starting KOF96, things get easier, and quite different. You will know what Im talking about once you start playing. Let me know if you have any more questions. :)

I did grab the game! Not sure when I'll get around to playing, but I'm glad I have it!

Sounds good, thank you! I'll struggle, but I think I can pull off platinum haha. For now, no more questions, but I'm confident this isn't the last you'll see of me in this thread haha.

Hello. How did you beat challenge 10? That’s the challenge I’m struggling the most with. Thanks

Are you talking about the Expert Boss Battle challenge? If you are, a cheap method to do it is to select Ryo, Robert and Yuri and spam the Haoh sho ko ken special, always make sure to have a stock charged so it becomes a super special. This can destroy hus electric projectile, and does a bit of chip damage if connected while Rugal defends but since you have unlimited stock, you can do over and over. If this is not the one you are talking about, let me know.

about this trophy   Party at Café Illusion That trick did not work for me, I did it as the guide indicates and the trophy did not come out.  Do you know what could have happened?

Are you sure you didn't continue on any game? I used the trick in both KOF 94 & 95, but I was able to beat the remaining games with no continues. Remember, if you are about to loose the final round on any given match, challenge with the other player, before reaching a continue screen, then beatthe player 2 and try again. If you have any other questions, let me know.

another question?  does the game have to be played continuously?  Or could you do it intermittently and then continue where you left off?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but if you are asking if you need to play and beat the 5 games in one sitting, this is not the case. What I would say is for you to check in the options to see if Auto Save is activated. Also, whenever I beated a game, I left the game run until showing the opening and then closed the game via the start button so I would get back to the games selection screen. This activated the auto save function. Let me know if you have more questions.
