Fault is a very short but quaint VN. Developed by Alice in Dissonance, it was initially released only in Japan but in 2020, Sekai Project localized and published it worldwide, finally allowing the rest of us to experience this rather interesting tale! You follow the journey of Princess Selphine and her Guardian, Ritona, the latter doing her utmost to protect the future Monarch of Rughzenhaide from an attack. A glitch in her magic or kravte, transports them to an unknown, faraway place and they have to find a way back.

Despite being a PSN title and not a Platinum, it's a quick 100% that is nevertheless worth it. Unlike many VNs, this one does not have endless dialogue choices or multiple endings; there is only 1 decision to make in the entire game and the only difference between the two is 4 or 5 lines of dialogue before it continues with the same story path. Honestly, because of how fast this game is even when you don't skip through, it's a waste to fly through it and miss the story! It's quite impressive how quickly you become engrossed in their world and in the characters' fates without even noticing it. It's truly a feat that they managed to make such a short story so emotional and enthralling. Although this is short, it's far from over! This is merely the first instalment or 'milestone one' to use their words so the game ends on a cliffhanger, one you definitely won't see coming!

Make the time for this, spend an hour or so and be rewarded with a surprisingly fun game.

Disclaimer: Because this was independently translated and published by Sekai, you may see a few mistakes here and there in the localization. For the most part however, it seems to be fine and the mistakes have no effect on your comprehension. The couple mistakes seem to primarily be using the name of a different character than intended in dialogue.

While you'll come to understand many terms along the way, there are just as many that are never fully explained. The in-game Encyclopedia has entries on everything such as different countries and politics, mana and magic terminology etc..

STEP ONE: Play the game

This is an extremely easy 100%, because except for the last one, all of fault's trophies are automatically earned just by watching the story so because of that, you can relax and play the game without any need for a guide or walkthrough. There are no collectibles to worry about finding, no hidden endings, no secret paths... As mentioned above, except for one, there aren't even any dialogue choices to worry about. The only thing to keep in mind is that at the start of Chapter 3, you will be faced with the only dialogue choice in-game. To save time, you should make a separate save here before choosing Option 1 and continuing on. (See (G) Planted Seed for more information.)

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

(B) galvanize!

(B) rude awakening

(B) discrepancies

(B) spearing the shadow

(B) beyond the line of magic and reason

(B) born again shell

(B) measure of a girl

(G) Oats and Curry.

STEP TWO: Reload save to change decisions

Once you've finished your first playthrough, now is the time to load that save you made back at the beginning of Chapter 3. This time, select the opposite option (Option 2: 'He would dismiss') and after you read a couple lines, the last trophy will pop.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

(G) Planted Seed

Completed - galvanize!

Story-related and cannot be missed.

This trophy will pop when you've completed Chapter 1: Galvanize.

[spoiler=ch1]When Ritona and Princess Selphine reach Kadia City after escaping the battle, they visit a pawn shop and learn more about the town they've found themselves in. The trophy will pop at the end of your conversation with the pawn shop's owner.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

This trophy will pop when you've completed Chapter 2: Rude Awakening.

[spoiler=ch2]After a long day of exploring Kadia City and making friends, they retire to an Inn to sleep, planning to leave the next morning. Rune requests that they wait for her before they go. The trophy will pop at the end of that night, after Ritona and Selphine agree to wait for Rune tomorrow.

Completed - discrepancies.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

This trophy will pop when you've completed Chapter 3: Discrepancies.

Note: This is the only Chapter that contains a decision to make. Because you will need to make both options for the 100% (see Planted Seed), make a save at the beginning of the Chapter to return to later. For your first playthrough, select Option 1: "He would intervene".

[spoiler=ch3]After you learn about Rune or Sara, you'll be presented with an option, at which point you'll choose to intervene. To do this, the two of you decide to ask around for some information so you visit the woman you purchased a map from yesterday. After a discussion with her where she shares some details about Rudo's family, you'll leave and Selphine will suggest speaking with Hertzwann, the tailor who made your new clothes. It is at this moment that the Chapter ends and you get this trophy.

Completed - spearing the shadow.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

This trophy will pop when you've completed Chapter 4: Spearing the Shadow.

[spoiler=ch4]After you head to the tavern to wait for Albas, the remainder of this Chapter is primarily spent watching Rudo's flashbacks, explaining everything that happened from Rune's birth to her death from his point of view. This trophy will pop at the end of those flashbacks, after her death is explained.

Completed - beyond the line of magic and reason.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

This trophy will pop when you've completed Chapter 5: Beyond the Line of Magic and Reason.

[spoiler=ch5]This entire Chapter is spent in Albas' memories, thanks to a direct mental link. You learn everything there is to know about the entire Zhevitz family and company. This trophy pops right after you watch Cid's death.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/10639/3b5a9b98-58f7-43c5-9c18-fb1ffb7e0f35.jpg born again shell (B)

Completed - born again shell.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

This trophy will pop when you've completed Chapter 6: Born Again Shell.

[spoiler=ch6]This Chapter continues from the previous one, in the sense that you continue to view Albas' memories, up until today. Once you've reached that point and the mind dive ends, Selphine will ask to speak to Rudo directly and the trophy will pop.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/10639/168e307b-debd-446e-94bf-1d20e31566b4.jpg measure of a girl (B)

Completed - measure of a girl.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

This trophy will pop when you've completed Chapter 7: Measure of a Girl.

[spoiler=ch7]This is the Chapter where the emotions are really going to hit hard (assuming you're following along, of course!) as you learn the truth of just who she is: Sera or Rune?; you learn exactly what Cid did and it turns out that he wasn't a madman after all. Without giving the ending away, this trophy will pop when Rudo gives you a crude prototype of a radio/walkie-talkie.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/10639/b2f5778a-586a-45c8-b836-4ce7856ce9dc.jpg Oats and Curry. (G)

Finished fault - milestone one.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

This trophy pops once you've completed the Epilogue and the credits roll.

[spoiler=epi]As they finally begin to leave the area, to continue their journey home, with Rune by their side, they decide to finally fill Rune in on their real identities but just before they can, they're interrupted by a large sound. They've been spotted. After a short scene, the game ends here on a cliffhanger and the trophy will pop just as the credits begin to roll.

Read all text in the game.

Unlike some VNs, Fault: Milestone One doesn't have dialogue choices and elaborate lists of possible endings. In fact, there is only one choice you can make in the whole game. This trophy is for experiencing every line of dialogue in the game, thus locking it behind that decision.

To get this trophy in the shortest time possible, you'll need to make a separate save file once Chapter 3 begins and you meet Rudo.

After you've finished Chapter 2: Rude Awakening and when Chapter 3 begins, you wait for Rune to appear with a gift, but she does not show. Instead, a man named Rudo appears. You'll have a brief dialogue, during which you learn a bit more about Rune and her current predicament and fate.

When he leaves, Ritona and Selphine discuss what to do. Selphine mentions her father and asks what he would do about this, whether:

- OPTION 1: He would intervene

- OPTION 2: He would dismiss

Make a save prior to making this decision. (If you forgot to, it's okay. You can rewind time by holding :l2: to a few frames before and make the save then). Press :triangle: to open the menu, then make a separate save in any slot you want.

After you've saved the game, you can then choose Option 1: He would intervene and continue on with the story.

Once you've finished the game, load the save you made and make the opposite decision: "He would dismiss". At this point, there will be just a few lines of new dialogue that you have to read, though you can easily skip it in seconds by holding down :r2:. After just a half-dozen lines or so, the trophy will pop.
