Song of Memories is a Visual Novel created by Pure Wish/Future Tech Lab and published by PQube, which tells a beautiful tale of friendship and love in a time of extreme hardship. As a VN, you will go into this game knowing that from now until it ends, your only job is to press :cross: and make a few dialogue choices. Due to the gameplay being fairly simple, it is probably a game that most will skip through and do only the bare minimum necessary for the Platinum or so you might think you will. This game is an overlooked gem that deserves a lot more attention than it is currently getting.

 

Unlike a standard game, your journey does not end once you first finish it. Because Song of Memories provides you with so many different decisions throughout the game, it uses a Chart system to track all of the moments with different outcomes available. Clicking on any such block will allow you to return to that moment to perhaps choose differently, allowing you to experience every possible way the story can play out. Ultimately, on your path to get the Platinum, you will experience 23 different Ends (not 24 as is commonly mis-believed) each one with its own tale of happiness, grief or both so sit back, get some tissues ready and enjoy. Despite the massive time difference between a Platinum you play normally and one you can skip through (4.5-5hrs compared to 60hrs), we strongly encourage you to experience the entire story at least once by playing legit. You won't be disappointed!

 

Important: To avoid confusion and potential errors, we strongly recommend you follow the route and order laid out in this walkthrough and just as strongly recommend not jumping around in the Charts until you have earned all the Ends so save that for your cleanup playthrough.

 

The order of your playthroughs will have an effect on future ones but this is especially true for the Joint End. If you don't follow the order as laid out in our Walkthrough and do the Joint End before completing all of the girls' routes, then you'll likely be given different dialogue options than we have written. That said, you can still get that End and its trophy by choosing the same option number as we have indicated. For example: If you're given the option of: #1: "Hello" or #2: "Bye" but in our walkthrough it says to choose Option #2: "How are you?", just ignore the words and choose the same Option #, which here is 2: Bye (see Uneventful World (B) for more information).

Controls:

 

:square: = Brings up an in-game menu where you can save, check on D4U, bring up the Chart etc.

:triangle: = Quick Save but becomes Quick Load, after you press :square: to bring up the menu.

:l2: = Skips Dialogue.

:l1: = Activates Auto Play.

:circle: = Removes the dialogue bar.

:l2: = Scrolls up the story chart you're currently on

:r2: = Scrolls down the story chart you're currently on

 

If all you want are the trophies and don't care about the story, then apply the following settings in the Options menu:

 

Text Speed: x5 (the right most option)

Skip Text 1: Skip Everything

Skip Text 2: Keep Skip after choice

 

Everything else can be left as-is.

The following walkthrough details the shortest route to get all endings and thus the Platinum. It will take you through the order of all the decisions you need to make and where all of the trophies are earned along the way. In this walkthrough, we will outline every choice you need to make in the following format:

 

Date: Time of Day - Block Name - Location

- OPT NUM: Choice

 

This is all of the information that will appear in your Chart for that choice. For clarity's sake, we won't include the decision(s) not chosen at that moment, however the 'OPT NUM' will indicate the specific number that decision is in the order of choices you will be presented. Here is an example from our Guide:

 

10/21: All day - D4U Fuuka 1 - MC's Room

- 2: Tsukasa

 

The "- 2: Tsukasa" indicates that Tsukasa, the choice you need to make, will be the 2nd decision in that specific moment, which in this case has a total of 6 possible decisions. In-game, the decisions will go from either left to right or top to bottom so Decision 1 will be either on the far left or at the very top of the list.

 

Notes:

 

- After each playthrough, press :circle: to skip the credits. Once "Fin" appears on the screen at the end of the Epilogue movie and the Autoplay has turned itself off, press :cross: to reboot the game then that playthrough's trophy will pop during the boot-up sequence.

 

- The 10/22: Morning - Joint 28 - MC's Home block shows 2 available decisions on the chart but we're unsure what the unlock requirements are, though we can 100% guarantee they will be automatically filled in by the time you have all 6 True Ends.

 

- To prevent info overload, we've restricted all the glitch info to one-time references so it doesn't feel like we're hitting you over the head with it.

 

- At the bottom of this Supplement are the Dictionary and Misc information sections, which contains all the info we couldn't find a home for anywhere else but didn't want to discard.

 

- During the Street sections in the Pandemic World part of the game, you will be automatically sent to the Town Hall if you mess around for too long instead of going straight there.

This is an easy True End to get by accident, because the correct choices are pretty obvious for the most part. Kanon's route starts at 10/2 in the Morning block, Joint 4 but to make it easier to track certain stills, scenes and movies for the Video's Memory (G) trophy, as well as other trophies, we have also included all the Joints from 10/1 and the location tags for some of the other girls as well:

Playthroughs #5 – 7

 

5. Fuuka's True End

 

Since Fuuka is Minato's adopted sister, it's unsurprising that this ending is trickier to achieve. It's also easier to make mistakes in, because the correct choices are not always obvious. In most other True Ends, you cultivate a romance by spending as much time as possible with that character, always choosing them when the option is given. In Fuuka's, though, while you will spend more time with her here than in some other playthroughs, you'll also have to make her jealous and feel lonely in the first half of the game by choosing dialogue decisions that favour Kanon instead. Once you're in the Pandemic Outbreak section, however, it'll get much easier to discern the correct choices because there are far fewer of them.

15. Satsuki's True End

 

Satsuki has one of the easiest Ends to get, because all of her True End choices are pretty obvious (especially if you've been paying attention to the story) and it's hard to fall out of her route. The only hard part is getting onto her route in the first place, because there are 3 points where the game doesn't let you choose to meet her on purpose so have to do it by accident i.e. at 10/3, 10/5 and 10/17 by choosing the "Invite no one" and "Arcade" choices.

Playthroughs #22 – 23

 

22. Destruction End

 

Whilst we normally do the Bad Ends last, it is imperative you earn this one before the Joint End, because doing it last can cause the Worst Possible Outcome (B) trophy to glitch and force you to rewatch one of the other Bad Ends a second time to make it pop.

 

This is the most annoying End to obtain and the one you're least likely to get by accident but there is a very simple way to get it every time with any character except for Makoto (he cannot get any Bad Ends at all). The trick is to follow the True End path for any of the 6 girls (i.e. Kanon, Fuuka, Akira, Yuno, Satsuki or Natsume) but when you get to the Pool, choose Makoto instead of them and continue their path as normal. For the purposes of this Guide, we will be using a modified version of Satsuki's walkthrough so you can get in some additional decisions and save time during your cleanup playthrough.

The Joint End is extremely easy to get, because all you have to do is follow Makoto's End path, choose one of the girls instead of him when you go to the Pool, then continue his path as normal. For the purposes of this walkthrough, we have made a minor change to one of Makoto's decisions to save you time during your clean up run but everything else is as it was:

If you followed our walkthrough then this will be the final Normal End, thus earning you Uneventful World (B). However, because Uneventful World is glitched, it will pop after you complete this one even if it is not the last Normal End you do. Also note that Nostalgic Tune (G)(H), Video's Memory (G)(H), Happy Memory (G)(H) and Haremlike Situation (S)(H) should all pop at some point during this playthrough but if not, please see the Trophy Guide and Illustrations & Arounds Supplement for details on how to cleanup any bits that are missing. Depending on whether or not you did Precious Memory (G)(H) after completing Natsume's True End, that trophy might be the only one left before Bright Future (P) pops. If you haven't seen all the Sequels yet, go: Title Screen => Album => Sequels and watch all 6 through to the very end.

  • Whilst rare, the game can be unstable at times and freeze or crash at random so save often and backup your saves on a frequent basis. Possible causes of crashes include: Pressing :cross: repeatedly whilst the game is booting up, over using the Quick Save function and leaving the game paused for too long with the menu bar up.
     
     
  • Sequences can glitch on rare occasions and not progress but reloading either your save or the previous block on the Chart will fix it. Conversely though, there are some sequences which will look like they've frozen/glitched but haven't so always wait a few seconds before reloading anything.
     
     
  • This game has a terrible translation that's riddled with errors and questionable localization decisions. Due to this, you may see some differences between the Guide and the game because we've had to fix certain texts so they make sense.
     
     
  • In rare cases, saving and then reloading your save whilst the decision menu is on your screen, will cause the text to double up and become hard to read but won't affect the actual outcome of whatever decision you make. The only fix, is to load a slightly earlier save then continue on from that point. For some unknown reason, this glitch has the opposite effect on certain decisions and causes the text to disappear almost completely.
     
     
  • After starting the game for the first time and playing for a bit, a Secrets menu will open up on the Title Screen and give you access to 4 short Additional Stories and various promotional materials. The Additional Stories add some context to certain aspects of the various storylines but whilst there are no trophies attached to these, we strongly recommend watching them anyway because they're funny as heck and add extra depth to the characters. We strongly recommend avoiding everything except the Additional Stories until after getting the Platinum, because they contain massive spoilers for all the Ends you haven't done yet.
     
     
  • There is a slight glitch with the controls, that causes them to lock up for a bit when you reload your save but this can be fixed by letting the Autoplay take over for a second or two.
     
     
  • You will know when you're about to encounter some previously unread dialogue during your cleanup playthrough, because the game will freeze for a split second then continue on as normal but with the Skip function turned off.
     
     
  • This game has an annoying and painfully slow second install that kicks in after booting it up for the first time but all you can do is go off and do something else for 20-30mins whilst the install completes itself.
     
     
  • If you leave the game on the Title Screen and don't touch your controller, the game will reboot itself once the music has stopped playing.
     
     
  • While some of the Title Screens are earned by finishing the game once, the rest are earned by getting all the Ends but we think some are earned by viewing each End a certain number of times.
     
     
  • For some odd reason, the :ls: and :rs: are disabled for the majority of the game and only used for parts of the Album. Due to this, you will have to use the :dpad: instead.
     
     
  • If you save and/or load during a conversation, the voice audio will disappear until the next bit of dialogue plays.
     
     
  • The audio can glitch out on loading your save after booting up the game and become annoyingly quiet but you can fix this by increasing the volume, then reducing it a few mins later after the volume levels have returned to normal. Unfortunately, Satsuki's voice seems to be poorly mixed in general because it's always lower than the others so expect to crank up the volume whenever she's on screen.
     
     
  • It might be a bug or just poor coding but the game won't auto-pause whilst the XMB is on screen, therefore it will carry on playing in the background until it hits a decision you have to make.
     
     
  • This Guide and its Supplements are based on the Global version of the game but they should also work with the Japanese original. If there are any differences between the two versions, then please let us know so they can be updated.
     
     
  • There isn't an Auto Save in this game (which is par-for the course for a VN) but you can save at any time outside of the Neoman fights and Neighbourhood map sequences, by using Quick or Manual Saves. Quick Saves only have 1 slot but there are 100 Manual Save slots (though you only need 1 or 2 at the maximum).

The guide has been very helpful and i appreciate your effort.

 

The game is pretty bad though, if not for the walkthough i'd regret getting it.

2: Each to their own :). Personally, this is one of all time favourite games, though I don't get much time to play it these days :(.
