Introduction:

Edna & Harvey: The Breakout is a dark comedy point-and-click adventure game developed by Daedalic Entertainment (Deponia), originally released in 2008, given an anniversary treatment in 2019, and ported to PS4 in 2020. It revolves around Edna and her imaginary friend Harvey as she attempts to break out of the insane asylum in which she is trapped, and attempt to absolve her father of the murder charge against him. It has a sequel/spin-off, Harvey's New Eyes, which was released on PS4 in 2019.

While this is an easy trophy list and game – in the sense that you cannot put yourself in an unwinnable state by experimenting with dialogue, combining items, etc – the majority of the list is comprised of missable trophies. Furthermore, there's a weird quirk in the game in that the trophies will not unlock right away. None of the trophies are glitched, but for some reason, some trophies require you to move Edna around for a bit after doing whatever is required for the trophy.

Thank you to Steam user Nid for compiling some achievement locations; I've replicated and slightly edited those lists in this guide.

Trophy Walkthrough – by me! It sequence-breaks the game like crazy, so the game's narrative will be largely untold, and the puzzle solutions will seem insane.

Walkthrough:

Please note there is no chapter select in this game. You do have eight save slots to use, and I suggest you make good use of them, or you'll need to start another game to get another chance at whatever trophy you miss.

Step 1: Play through the story in the asylum, unlocking all missable trophies

The majority of the game takes place in the asylum and on its grounds. Your ultimate goal is to mold a master key, repair a car, and escape.

By the end of this step, you will have earned the story-related (in order):

Cellfree (S)

Liftgirl (S)

Forger (S)

Queen of the recreation room (S)

Escapress (S)

And the missable (in likely order):

Copyrighthurtress (S)

Waterplacer (G)

Polisheress (S)

Exchangeress (S)

Workeress (G)

Comic Nerd (G)

Big Litterbug (G)

Little Mucky Pup (G)

Handicapress (G)

Tubeslasher (G)

Step 2: Finish the game

Despite the fact that you've broken out of the asylum, you still have a bit of game left to play. Finish the game, choosing whichever ending you want. When you've finished, go through the credits until you reach the main menu, but you're not quite done yet!

By the end of this step, you will have earned the story-related (in order):

Lady of Keys (S)

And the missable:

Moonlighter (S)

Step 3: Start a new game

Assuming you unlocked all of the trophies in Steps 1 and 2, you only need to do one single thing to unlock the Platinum: start a new game and pick up the chair leg in Edna's cell. If you missed any trophies in Step 1 or 2, this new playthrough also serves as your second chance to go for those trophies.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Deja-vu (G)

Platinum (P)

Collect all Trophies

How many pop culture references did you pick up on?

Escape from padded cell!

Story-related and cannot be missed.

The description for this trophy is misleading; not only do you need to escape from Edna's cell, but you also need to trap the two guards on the fourth floor so Edna can go exploring. Once you've trapped the second guard in the storage room, this trophy will unlock.

Where does Oscar live?

*MISSABLE*

In the Security Room on 3F, talk to the trash can. Oscar the Grouch will emerge and yell at you, but at least you'll have a new silver trophy in your collection.

Learn to copy Dr. Marcel's signature!

Story-related and cannot be missed.

During story progression, Edna will learn a new Harvey skill: counterfeit signature. Once you've done so, go to Marcel's Office on 4F and use this skill on Marcel's diploma. After a short cutscene, you'll learn Marcel's signature and unlock this trophy.

Can I have yours?

*MISSABLE*

In the asylum's kitchen, you'll find some green potholders hanging from the wall. You need these for story-related reasons. If you take these potholders to Beeman in the Art Room, he'll swap them for some bee-themed potholders.

Defeat King Adrian!

Story-related and cannot be missed.

King Adrian lives in the blanket fort area of the Recreation Room. You will need to beat him twice at a coin flip game. In order to do so, Edna will have to endure electric shock therapy, succeed in group therapy, and navigate a dialogue tree with Adrian. Once you've done all of these things, you will win both Adrian's gold medal and this silver trophy.

Smell sweet freedom!

Story-related and cannot be missed.

Once you've gotten outside of the asylum and onto its grounds, you'll need to fix up the car and figure out a way to keep the asylum gates open. Once you've done these things, a cutscene of Edna and co. escaping will play, and this trophy will unlock once you've regained control.

They both shall shine!

*MISSABLE*

For story-related reasons, you will come into possession of potholders, a fork, and a coin. In the inventory, use the potholders on both the fork and the coin and you'll get this trophy.

I did this with the green potholders, but if you've already swapped them with Beeman (see Exchangeress), I see no reason why it wouldn't work with those, but I haven't personally confirmed it.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/10775/d1462cca-d990-423c-aa8a-6f9a271a5e51.jpg Waterplacer (G)

Where do the dwarves put all the water cups?

*MISSABLE*

In the Security Room on 3F, if you pick up the trash can, you'll actually pick up a used water cup. There are twelve places where Edna can leave the water cup; you'll need to do this at seven of those locations. Note that you can only carry one cup at a time, so once you've ditched a cup, remember to go back to the Security Room and get another one.

Here are the possible locations:

  1. In the open drawer of Dr Marcel's office (4F).
  2. In the fireplace of Dr Marcel's office (4F).
  3. On chair outside Edna's cell (4F).
  4. Off the roof outside the storeroom window (4F).
  5. Give to Babbitt on Roof (4F).
  6. Back into trashcan in Security Room (3F).
  7. On electricity meter in Laundry Lift Room (2F).
  8. On sofa in Rec Room (1F).
  9. Give to Professor in TV Room (1F).
  10. On sofa in Telephone Room (1F).
  11. In coffee machine in Vending Machine Room (off of the Bar) (1F).
  12. In Furnace (Basement)

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/10775/4a1f6ac0-78f4-4879-9fb0-3319f958bfad.jpg Workeress (G)

Does this work with the lever? Or the bulletin?

*MISSABLE* & This may be beneficially glitched.

For this trophy, Edna must say the words “this does not work.” This is achieved by doing the following three things:

  1. Talking to the ballpoint pen (Marcel's Office, 4F)
  2. Using the flier/poster on the right door of the Cafeteria (Ground Floor)
  3. Using the empty pot on the lever in the Shock Treatment room (2F)

If you talk to the pen while it's still on Marcel's desk before picking it up, there's a chance that this trophy will unlock just by talking to the pen and using the flier/poster in the Cafeteria. If you've already picked up the pen, you'll also need to use the pot on the lever, and talk to the pen in your inventory.

A new home?

Story-related and cannot be missed.

Edna will eventually get a coat hanger that will allow her to travel the Laundry Lift. To unlock this trophy, you will need to visit all three stops of the lift. You'll fulfill the requirements for this trophy several times just playing through the game.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/10775/501189c4-1ece-453a-93a9-e5d17e83b43b.jpg Tubeslasher (G)

Ban Ki-Moon, the tyre, his blackberries and her wrench.

*MISSABLE*

This is a strange one. Near the end of Edna's time in the asylum, she will wind up with the ability to counterfeit signatures, a police badge, a spare tire, and a wrench in her inventory. Once you have all four, go to the bathroom on 2F and you'll see a hose.

Use the following inventory items on the hose, in order (the order is very important!):

  1. Harvey 2: Counterfeit Signature
  2. Spare tire
  3. Police badge
  4. Wrench

Storks will be taken by strange birds!

*MISSABLE*

Once Edna molds the master key and is finally able to access the outside area of the asylum, walking around the house will bring her to a zen garden area. Try to pick up the nearby birdbath and you'll unlock this trophy.

Poor man in the moon!

*MISSABLE*

Once Edna finally gains access to her house via the basement, go upstairs, through the kitchen, and up another set of stairs to the 2F landing. From here, enter the left-most door, which leads to her father's study. In here is a lighter she needs for story progression. The next time she's outside, have her use the lighter with the moon for a brief conversation with Harvey, which will unlock this trophy.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

Just as Edna had to mold a key in the asylum, she'll need to do the same while at her house. Once this has been done and the key is in her inventory, the trophy will unlock.

Déjà-vu!

After you finish the game (choose whichever ending you want), go through the credits and you'll be taken back to the main menu. Immediately start a new game, pick up the chair leg, and this trophy will unlock.
