May quit gaming after the PS5

I don't agree with the norm. We got a fucking Marvel's Spider-Man remaster on the PS5, when we got the original game on the PS4 just two years earlier. It's just being greedy and throwing out more money for slightly better graphics.

Again you do make sense. But also you have to look at production time., Games that are released around the last couple of years, as well as exclusive are probably already in development for the next console. This has been happening since the SNES days and won't ever end. Especially when it comes to exclusives.

Plus its hard to talk about greed at the moment. End of the day the world is in financial shit due to this virus etc. Do I support the big chains or the little shops? I support the big chains because those are the guys that will employ anyone suitable for the job etc, not someone just looking out for number 1.

Like I said you do make sense and I can understand how you're seeing it, but you do have to look at the bigger picture.

Well to be fair there is some noticeable difference between 1080p and 4k.

Marvel's Spider-Man is easily played in 4K on a PS4 Pro. I myself have seen it with my own eyes because some of my friends have played it on their PS4.

What was the point of the remaster? To give Peter Parker a new look? He looks like a kid.

I'm well aware of the production time. Games take far more resources than they did 10 years ago. That's the progression of technology. I do feel however, that AAA gaming today has mostly played the safe route while turning a blind eye to anything that is seen as risky.

Kingdom Come Deliverance was met to mixed reviews. Granted, that game is best played on the PC with good specs. My issue was a lot of gaming journalists and user reviews attacked the game because it was trying to present a different angle from what they were wanting.

AAA gaming nowadays is focused squarely on the realism and how flawed our world can be. Lots of funding is made and the publishers basically have the handle on the leash. Developers don't have as much staying power nor do they have as much of a say as they did years ago.

Crunch culture is basically the norm. If people didn't think workers in retail and shipping aren't scrambling to get those PS5 consoles in time, they better believe it. Black Friday is going to be a riot.

I can appreciate all the good indie games that have come out in recent times, and I will continue to give my support for the developers who still put their hard passion and work into them.

Much of Western Europe and New Zealand have been able to resume a normal life, because they were able to separate themselves by staying in their homes once COVID-19 was becoming a major threat. Where I live in the United States, you still got idiots spreading around the virus. It just takes a few people breathing within a few feet of each other to spread it.

It's been over six months now. There is no excuse for COVID to be this bad over here.

The big chains aren't a whole lot better. Amazon, eBay, there's a lot of filth inside of them. The little shops are suffering and I suspect most of them will be gone in 10 years.

. Like I said you do make sense and I can understand how you're seeing it, but you do have to look at the bigger picture.

Everyone makes choices in gaming. I made the choice of supporting AAA developers less and less while I have put more emphasis on indie developers who deliver quality games.

The PS5 to me is just more of the same we got since the midlife cycle of the PS4. People want remasters so they can replay them with newer technology. Rinse and repeat.

I can't support filthy publishers and their corporate masters anymore. I expected Blizzard to deliver with Warcraft 3 Reforged, but after the way they treated it, I will no longer support that company and anything they do at this point is basically noise.

You vote with your wallet.

I must be in the minority here but I think this generation has been one of the best. I think the PS4 is the best console in terms of hardware, I mean pretty much everything that I have wanted Sony have added via updates (except changing the Party system I am honestly not sure why they did this). I think the games have been fantastic I have played so many varied and interesting stories, the graphics keep getting better and better and I love how multiplayer and free games are evolving (warframe and genshin impact are two wonderful examples). I think it is a great time to be a gamer.

I am not saying it has been perfect, I still feel games are getting bigger than they need to be (I love RDR 2 but really do I have to take so long riding from place to place). I know that gaming companies are getting more greedy but that is everywhere in life not just gaming, the more popular and lucrative gaming becomes the more money hungry people you will attract to it (I mean like at Football) but none of these things have destroyed my love for medium.

If you don't love gaming anymore have a break, one of two things will happen

1. You will miss it and return to it with newly reinstalled passion

2. You will find something else that you love instead (wife, child, new hobby)

At the end of the day life is short do what makes you happy

After watching our grown kids enjoy the Switch so much, I'm going to play that more. You just have fun and no OCD on completion. It's just pure fun.

I still love to game but in spirts as I've said the last year or so. I've played Destiny 2 for fun some but have only gotten one plat in the last 11 or 12 days which has not been the norm this year. Find something you enjoy and do that. If you are not having fun. Do something else. Balance is the key for me. Life, family, and gaming all require balance.

It depends entirely on the games YOU are playing. I'm still scouting around to be honest. I'm on a grand adventure to find myself, to learn what I like and don't like, and to escape the lie people call "reality". I've no idea why I tried PlayStation as the last platform, but yes it was basically my last straw in gaming. And, I actually like it here (on PlayStation).

Sure, the first game on this profile was Horizon Zero Dawn and I'm not sure what I was expecting, because it's your usual western RPG-ish oPeNwOrLd game: You're all alone and spending most of your time running around in a world that's way too big for no reason.  It's kinda boring but, heyyyyy, at least the GrApHiCs are "good", that's the only important thing, right? RIGHT?! ...*sigh* I think the west has wrong priorities these days about gaming. For example are as said the worlds ridiculously big and you spend most of your time with walking around. But yet people complain about Death Stranding and call it Walking Simulator. That irony...

What else do people care about? Graphics. 4K. 60fps. Realism. Man, if you guys want a "good" looking but empty feeling world, just leave the house: The world is big, feels empty, the story is horrible and pointless, it appears you would've the freedom of choice but can't change anything (like political elections eg), most of the characters are boring, trash and have only two emotions (Anger and Hunger) and most white people are in the same guild: <BrotherSisterhood of Baizuo-ism> kissing each others butt and are angry about people that've real stuff to deal with.

Western games are depressing and boring to me... What other options do you have? Digging around in some niches, yes. I'm currently playing Trails of Cold Steel III. I started that right after I've platinumed part II, right after I've platinumed part I. I even - and normally I'm not doing that - have part IV already here. Bought that day1 for 60€. Usually I'm waiting for someone to throw games after me. BUT I'M HAPPY for the first time in years. This series is the best thing I've ever played!! When was I happy with being alive the last time... hmm... This information is classified, not even I've access to that.

Mh~ Japan, where stuff is about story, characters and feelings, instead of graphics and map sizes... Das some good shit.

What I want to say is... When you're always playing games from the same staple things will never change. Sometimes you need to do something entirely different. Something others wouldn't expect you to do. Something that's against the programming the normies and the media forced on you all your life. For example. What's the first picture western people have in their head when you mention Japan? Probably something about elementary school girls, panty hunting and tentacle porn... Why? Because people programmed (or "normed") each other to think that. And yet the normies claim to be openminded and against racism and whatever. Funny, right?

You guys can keep playing your fancy looking but boring western games that lack in everything besides graphics and map size... Or you can stop complaining and try to change something about yourself, expand your horizon and what not.

I understand you perfectly. I've come across the same thing. I am sure that such a loss of interest in games comes to every gamer after he has tried a bunch of games and learned all the game mechanics that are repeated from game to game. Recently I found here https://10roar.com a new big gaming monitor for yourself. And this is the only thing that brings me pleasure. When I play RDR2 on a large and clear monitor, I get pleasure not only from the gameplay, but mainly from the visual. Probably only the graphics now can surprise us and give us new emotions. There is nothing new in terms of gameplay right now.

I miss Sony from the early - mid 2000s. It was edgy, cool, and poked a bit of humor into itself in their advertisements. The PS2 was an awesome system with a huge variety of games, from Tony Hawk to God of War and Metal Gear Solid.

What do you guys think?

I actually read everything you posted and THIS right there hits the tip of the iceberg. Agreed on that a 100%.

I find myself feeling a lot more engaged with indie games and the middle of the road (AA) titles. Older AAA games for me felt like they captured the magic of the developers. A group of people who wanted to share a passion, and the result was a great game that was a lot of fun.

The PlayStation HQ got moved from Japan to California in 2016. The PS4 already was an American system. And surprise, surprise, it was the generation where seasonpasses really started to be a thing. Also, did you notice that Nintendo was the last one of the three to take money for multiplayer? Well, don't get me wrong. The fine folks at Nintendo can be real arxeholes and I don't intend to defend them in any way, but, honestly, can't blame Nintendo here. I mean, they saw that Microsoft and one generation later Sony are doing it, an that it apparently works... They started a generation after it and only take 20 instead of 60 Euros a year.

And who started this paywall anyway? Microsoft. In the PS3/X360 era. That company that needs to ruin everything for everyone. And people are just like "Gamepass for 10€/month hehehehehe", for whatever reason even happy about that their greed and narcissism will lead to the next crash of the gaming industry.

So... PlayStation moved to the United States and suddenly you need PS+ to play online. And all these licked realistic-graphics orgasms for pubescent boys, with super big maps, lacking a soul, filled with emptiness and nonsense mapmarkers for absolutely irrelevant collectibles the west still hasn't found out how to properly integrate to make them feel like actually being part o the game... these so called "Triple-A Blockbuster" games, suddenly have seasonpasses and DLCs everywhere, later even micro- and macrotransactions. It wasn't such a nuisance on PS3, when the gaming market wasn't nearly entire American yet. Remember? And yeah, before someone asks, a macrotransaction is everything that's above 4,99$US. But macro sounds bigger than micro, so companies ignored the definition and keep abusing you, because they don't just want your money... they want ALL the money!

What you noticed is what Americanization and Turbo-Capitalism does to your hobby.

Also, whatever is the issue, blame Microsoft. Really, have you an idea how many things died due to their hand? How many corpses they ate? That Microsoft is the reason why certain laws needed to be invented in the first place? Yeah, I'm serious. Did anyone ever wonder why every prebuild PC comes with Windows? ...*sigh*

Spoiler

And don't get me even start about the day Steve Ballmer freaked out because people kept asking him how Microsoft plans to implement the TCP/IP stack into Windows and he had no idea what that even is... and then they just copied code from BSD.

Or does someone remember when Microsofts "The internet will never be relevant"-attitude nearly destroyed the web, because 95% of all PCs used crappy Internet Explorer 6, on WindowsXP, the most invulnerable operating system that ever existed, and Microsoft didn't care about it at all? And we needed the birth of Firefox, because without it all the sites you like wouldn't even exist, because IE6 was a piece of garbage?

Really. Whatever is the issue... if it's related with IT, blame Microsoft.

Basically, the invention of the XBox is one day going to ruin our hobby entirely. Thanks Microsoft...

My declining interest in gaming may have to do with the fact that I’m older.

Funny that you're saying that. The older I get the more I'm interested in games from Japan, because of exactly what you witnessed. I mean, sure Japan also has SquareEnix eg which is a really westernized bastard that wants to cashgrab internationally... But no game ever that got published eg by NIS America (note: they're a localization company and translate Japanese games that are more niche into English and publish them in the west. Basically an entire new world in gaming to explore!) tried to rob me down to my panties...

I wonder how many things must still get destroyed by force and endless greed, until people understand that capitalism, especially at the level Americans are playing it (where even education and health can ruin your entire life, because of money.), isn't good for anyone, except some greedy old man that happens to be CEO of something.

Employees at Activision can't even afford to eat in the companies own cafeteria, while Bobby gets 30 millions of Dollars every year for... what exactly?

Thanks, Adam Smith, for finding ways to even accelerate the human extinction... quite antisocial that we take the entire planet with us though.
