Introduction:

Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a set of classic Castlevania games from the early franchise history. This collection is a good way to introduce oneself to the beginning of the Castlevania story, beginning with Simon Belmont, Trevor Belmont and several others in the Belmont line.

Resources

Default Controls

Since most trophies are for beating each game and each has different controls, I listed the controls under each trophy.

Cheats

You have the ability to quick save in these games. Because they can be quite difficult, it is wise to abuse the quick save feature. You only get one, so periodically back it up just in case you quick save yourself into a corner. It isn’t necessary and takes a little extra time, but it might be less frustrating than having to start an entire game over again.

Japanese Version

Note that while the collection does allow you to play the Japanese version of each game, the trophies will NOT be earned in this mode. So you want to be sure to play the English version of each game.

Tips and Tricks

  • Jumping at an angle requires a head start. You can’t just jump forward in the air. You have to do it from the ground in most instances or you will end up jumping up and down only.
  • Abuse the quick save option. These classic games are hard, and this is the best way to force yourself to victory.
  • Search for wall meat and health drops. They are scattered throughout the castle’s, hidden in walls, to replenish your health.
  • Consider remapping the controls. For example, Castlevania had the :cross: button as the whip and :square: as jump. I find it easier the other way around.
  • It's best to avoid damage at all costs. Taking damage often causes you to lose weapon strength upgrades. To stay at your strongest, quick save frequently in case you need to undo damage.

Walkthrough:

There is no specific order one has to go in. For example one could play the games in chronological order. In this guide, the order was played in the order listed in the collection.

Step 1: Beat Castlevania

You simply need to beat Castlevania. There are no passwords or shortcuts to assist you, so abuse the quick save feature.

On this step you should/can earn:

The Cursed Simon Belmont (B)

Step 2: Beat Castlevania II Simon’s Quest

You simply need to beat Castlevania II. It doesn’t matter which ending you get or whether or not you use the password feature.

On this step you should/can earn:

And so the ghastly night has come to an end (B)

Step 3: Complete Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse

You will need to complete Castlevania III four times. Once with just Trevor, and once for Trevor paired with one of each of the three “spirits”, Sypha, Grant and Alucard. You don’t have to “beat” the game with them, just have them in your team and beat Dracula with Trevor.

On this step you should/can earn:

The Vampire Killer is all I need (B)

Intertwined fates (B)

May my family rest in peace (B)

Forgive me, Father (B)

Step 4: Beat Super Castlevania IV

You will need to complete Super Castlevania IV once. You can use passwords to skip to the end and make this a quick trophy.

On this step you should/can earn:

With only your whip and courage (B)

Step 5: Beat Castlevania Adventure

You must beat Castlevania Adventure once. There are no passwords in this game so you will have to do it in one go.

On this step you should/can earn:

Birth of a legend (B)

Step 6: Beat Castlevania II Belmont’s Revenge

You must beat Castlevania II Belmont’s Revenge once. There is password support so you can use that to skip ahead.

On this step you should/can earn:

Rise again, Soleil (B)

Step 7: Complete Castlevania Bloodlines

You need to beat Castlevania Bloodlines with both John Morris and Eric Lecarde. You can use a password to skip ahead to stage 6 for both characters if you wish. Stage 6 is a gauntlet stage with multiple bosses, so quick save as needed. Difficulty doesn't matter, so feel free to knock this down to easy.

On this step you should/can earn:

It took a left-hander to set things right (B)

You are now avenged, Gwendolyn (B)

Step 8: Beat Kid Dracula

You need to beat Kid Dracula once. You can use a password to jump to stage 7, but there are no passwords for stages 8 and 9. Stage 9 should also be completed with quick save because losing to the boss sends you back to the beginning of the stage.

On this step you should/can earn:

I am king! (B)

Trophy Guide:

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8762/996.jpg Heir of the Belmont clan (G)

Complete all games

(GLITCHED)

You will earn this trophy after beating all 8 games included in the collection at least once.

That includes:

  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II Simon’s Quest
  • Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Castlevania Adventure
  • Castlevania II Belmont’s Revenge
  • Castlevania Bloodlines
  • Kid Dracula

Some players have reported this trophy glitching on them, despite beating every game. It’s best to backup save files for each game just before defeating the last bosses to be safe. Re-beating the games seemed to make the trophy pop. Note that each game in the collection has a unique quick save so as long as you quick save at the final bosses and do not overwrite them, you don’t have to replay anything from scratch.

Play each game

You will earn this trophy by simply playing each of the 8 games included in the collection at least once.

That includes:

  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II Simon’s Quest
  • Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Castlevania Adventure
  • Castlevania II Belmont’s Revenge
  • Castlevania Bloodlines
  • Kid Dracula

Complete Castlevania

As the trophy says, you must complete the original Castlevania. There are 18 stages in the game with 6 total boss encounters. Beating a boss will reset the clock and give an item that will completely heal you.

The default controls for the game are:

:right: Move right

:left: Move left

 Crouch/Use stairs

 Use stairs

:circle:/:square: Jump, use :right: or :left: to jump at a diagonal

:cross:/:triangle: Whip

+:cross:/:triangle: Use items

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8762/661.jpg And so the ghastly night has come to an end (B)

Complete Castlevania II Simon's Quest

You must beat Castlevania II to earn this trophy. This game is a bit different from the first, in that it’s more open world, reminiscent of the Metroidvania formula most fans are familiar with. There are several puzzles that need to be solved for progression, as well as some tricks that require some knowledge and aren’t obvious.

The default controls for the game are:

:right: Move right

:left: Move left

 Crouch/Use stairs

 Enter building/Use stairs

:circle:/:square: Jump, use :right: or :left: to jump at a diagonal

:cross:/:triangle: Whip, talk to villagers

+:cross:/:triangle: Use items

IF you are just interested in the trophy, you can use this password to take you directly to the end of the game. At that point, you just need to travel to the final boss and beat the game, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes. It’s also possible to scam the last boss with a certain attack that basically makes him not move and very easy to kill. Follow the steps below if so:

Use this password to start a game with everything you need to move to the final boss.

i3cHIFU.jpg

Opening the menu and selecting the red orb in the first row and the candle in the second will allow you to use an item to allow you to walk through a poison bog.

Unlike other games in the series, this game is more of an open world puzzle. Once you enter the password, leave town by going down and left. Keep moving left until you get to a dead end. Here, you need to select the red orb in the menu and press down until a tornado comes to take you away.

R1B0q0F.jpg

After arriving at the other end of the teleport, immediately start going right. When you get to the first downward staircase that isn't in a town, take that and keep going right. You will find a bridge you can't reach, but selecting the fang item should allow you to break bricks and create a path. Eventually you will get to the a catacomb with walls that can be broken. In here you will need to use the potion item with the fang to attack the floor and break bricks to open a path to proceed. Eventually you will get to the final boss.

To easily defeat the final boss, equip the fire item in the second row of the menu, jump and keep throwing it onto the pedestal with +:cross:/:triangle:. The boss will be defeated easily if you can keep repeating that.

You need to beat Castlevania III to earn this trophy, specifically with Trevor Belmont ONLY. This game plays closer to the first Castlevania than its sequel.

During the game you can recruit one of three “spirits” or alternate characters. However, in order to earn this trophy you must complete the game without recruiting any additional characters.

The quickest and easiest way to earn this trophy is to use the following password, with the name “Help Me” to start with 10 lives at the beginning of the final stage.

With Alucard in tow, you must beat the game. You can beat the game without even using Alucard, beating the game entirely with Trevor if you want. As long as Alucard is your spirit, this trophy will be earned.

This trophy is considered missable because if you do not have Alucard in your team when facing Dracula, you will have to start a new game or use a password to get him.

Complete Super Castlevania IV

To earn this trophy you must beat Super Castlevania IV, which is a remake of sorts of the first Castlevania and consists of 12 difficult stages. However, you can expedite matters a bit with the following password. Enter a blank name (or it will not work) and fill in the password:

kyBnoRF.jpg

This will take you directly to the final battle with Dracula.

Of some note is that at the bottom of the stair case, there is an invisible platform. If you jump onto it then move left, jump to another lower hidden platform and move to the left corner, you will get a whole host of upgrade items that fall from the ceiling. It takes a few seconds to get everything and the fall in waves so be patient. HOWEVER, since the platforms are invisible, working your way back may be difficult. But it will help set you up for the tedious and difficult battle with Dracula. As always, abuse your quick save. Dracula is tough and cheap.

Complete Castlevania The Adventure

You will need to beat Castlevania The Adventure to earn this trophy. There are 4 stages that need to be cleared with a boss at the end of each. To begin the boss fights you must destroy a candle and pick up the item in that last room. There are no passwords in this game, so you will need to do it in a complete run. This game can be quite challenging as it requires pixel perfect platform jumping.

The default controls for the game are:

Complete Castlevania Bloodlines as John Morris

To earn this trophy, you need to beat Castlevania Bloodlines with John Morris. This game has a difficulty setting and it's perfectly fine to set it to easy and still earn the trophy.

The following password will send you to the final stage, which is a bit tough. There are some obnoxious puzzles and several boss battles. When you get to Death, he'll have a card roulette. Two of the six cards are for healing, so save those for the end.

Tnx for the guide. Had to skip to the end of a couple of games, didn't want to play through them multiple times. I did get to enjoy some classics that I played as a kid, including my fave Caslevania IV and enjoy some that I never played. Just wish it had a platinum.
