Introduction

Northgard is a strategy game in which you control a Viking clan which you got to grow by gathering resources expanding your territory and gaining lore to give yourself some fancy bonuses.

Trophy wise it’s very straight forwards but time consuming, are you looking at that shiny (P) be prepared to play 250+ hours in this game. It’s a cool game not the best out there but on PS4 it will be in the top 10 of strategy game in my books, and I played a very fair amount.

Walkthrough

Step 1 Campaign

There is a campaign mode, this is like a very long tutorial, when you finished it you’ll get….1! trophy, well done! You get the trophy of the difficulty you’ve done it on. If you want that (P) you got to play the campaign twice as the 2nd time you get the “secret objectives” in each chapter, finishing all of them gets you the chapter related trophies. Also on of your two campaigns should be played on expert difficulty. Once done you should have 15 trophies, 13 chapter related and 3 difficulty related.

Step 2 Solo play 250 games

Victories:

Let’s get the time consumer out of the bag, you need to win 250 times…

So, while doing that make sure you win at least once with every clan (6 clan victory trophies), make sure you build each artefact (you can only build 1 per game and some are clan related). To build an artefact you need a forge, metal and gold. (11 artefact related trophies)

There are various ways to be victorious in Northgard and you are expected to win in every way at least once. My advice is to use these clans for these victories

[*]Domination -> clan of the Wolf & clan of the Bear

[*]Trade -> clan of the Raven

[*]Fame -> clan of the Stag

[*] Wisdom -> Clan of the Boar

[*] clan of the Goat is food oriented and good overall you can win any type you want.

There are also map victories (3 to be precise) these victories are achieved by claiming the territory in the middle of the map with the map on which these events occur, they are at random so don’t expect the 3 you need in the 3 first maps.

Note you can turn on and off ways to achieve victory for each game so if you go for Domination you can turn the rest off to prevent an opponent clan winning with trade before you kill them.

My advice is to have 2 victory options in each game 1 the victory you aim for & 2 the map special victory.

Note you can save you game, claim the map victory, load the game kill everyone this will give you the domination and map victory trophies BUT only counts as 1 victory towards 250.

The fastest way to win any game by far is the be the raven clan and trade with long boats (you need to upgrade your harbor for this) it’s for free for you and you gain more than other by trading with your homeland. Also you don’t need an army which needs maintenance, just merchants for a good cash flow.

After you win a game you can “keep playing” to farm some trophies like “explore every zone” colonise a tile with a geyser, thor wrath or vedfolnir on it kill certain animals or monsters like the bears, Valkyries, wyvern, wolves or kobolds.

If you have trouble with finding 10 Valkyries, they spawn in Gate of Helheim tile, so if you claim that make sure to place some Army related people there to guard if for 8 months and you’ll likely get this trophy as well.

Ragnarok

Ragnarok is like a solo game, how ever there are no map victories, instead there is a volcano in the middle which sometimes out bursts leaving stones in your territory, you can farm those for stone, if you don’t they’ll change into rock golems, kill 10 of those to gain the trophy, note that these 10 don’t have to be “in a single game” like the other kill related trophies.

Also the Myrkalfar are a new race in the ragnarok game mode, like with kobolds and giants (Jotnar) you can trade with them, trading with them enough will have them befriend you, trophy!. The Jotnar work the same, they may be in any game mode but are not always present.

Military expert

Last but not least there are three trophies related to being a military expert. Every time you kill someone or something you get military experience, once you hit 500 you can pick your expertise; Tactician, Guardian or Conqueror. You unlock level two with 1500xp and 3000xp to unlock the full tree. They all have different bonuses so check out what fits your game play best but you can only pick 1 expertise per game, so make sure you pick all 3 at least once in your 250 games for your (P).

Trophy Guide:

You have completed the game

Obtain all Northgard trophies.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/a54.jpg Warlord (B)

Achieve a Domination Victory [not in Story Mode]

When you start a solo game, you can select some settings:

  • game type: ragnarok or northgard
  • difficulty: any
  • victory conditions: Domination (I advise to have the map specific victory also ON as they are at random and you rather not farm for them)

For the domination victory you’ll have to eliminate all other clans (3 per game). You only have to take over the land with their clan HQ the rest of their lands can be ignored, while mostly you’ll have to fight yourself a way there.

Good fighting clans are the Wolf clan (also giving you Aggressor (B)) and the Bear clan (also giving you Stalwart (B))

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/b65.jpg Great Merchant (B)

Achieve a Trade Victory [not in Story Mode]

When you start a solo game, you can select some settings:

  • game type: ragnarok or northgard
  • difficulty: any
  • victory conditions: Trade (I advise to have the map specific victory turned OFF as you don’t want another clan to take it while you’re still trading)

For a trade victory you need a harbor (needs to be build on the beach) and upgrade it with a light house (you can only have 1 lighthouse at 1 time). To start trading you need to unlock the lore (first knowledge on the bottom row “Economy”).

Then you can start trading coins for influence. Note this is not cheap, so be ready for build and upgrade some trading posts and marketplaces.

I highly advice to use the raven clan (also giving you Merchant (B)), they get the lighthouse for free meaning you can start early, and they get better rates trading with “home” meaning your influence goes faster. Also as they don’t specialize in war it’s good to use this clan if you don’t want a domination victory.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/0ab.jpg King of Northgard (B)

Achieve a Fame Victory [not in Story Mode]

When you start a solo game you can select some settings:

  • game type: ragnarok or northgard
  • difficulty: any
  • victory conditions: Fame (I advise to have the map specific victory also ON as they are at random and you rather not farm for them)

Fame is what you get for exploring (claiming territories and exploring tombs, finding the middle special tile first or finding the wyvern), fame is also obtained via killing the wyvern, destroying other players or the Jötnar (befriending them also works and gives you Friend of the Jötnar (S)) and can be obtained via certain buildings like the harbor. Note you do need some sort of an army for this victory as you’ll need to own 12 territories and the altar of kings (expensive building make sure you save up for it, it does give you 50 Fame when build).

I recommend the stag clan (also giving you Proud (B)) for this one as they can generate extra fame with their special building Hall of Skalds. And give you a wooping +20% fame earned once the "Glory of the Clan” knowledge is unlocked Also they have to ability to” whenever your Warchief uncolonized a tile, you will colonize it for free” This will help a lot while gaining your 12 needed territories.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/d8c.jpg The Wise (B)

Achieve a Wisdom Victory [not in Story Mode]

When you start a solo game, you can select some settings:

  • game type: ragnarok or northgard
  • difficulty: any
  • victory conditions: Trade (I advise to have the map specific victory turned OFF as you don’t want another clan to take it while you’re still trading)

To be wise you need to unlock all knowledge, you gain knowledge via lore.

I advise the Boar clan (also giving you Recluse (B)) for this cause their healers can produce lore when not healing. Lore is mostly gained via villages assigned to stones (various shapes and sizes) changing them into Lore masters. You can also gain lore via sailors, the altar of kings, scouting ruins and healing Vedrfolnir (which would give you Bird Enthousiast (B) on doing it the first time and is a random event).

With enough Lore you can unlock knowledge, unlock all knowledges to obtain the wisdom victory.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/171.jpg The Protector (B)

Win by guarding the Gate of Helheim [not in Story Mode]

Note that the Map victory setting needs to be on and the victory tile in the middle is random.

The Gate of Helheim is a map victory tile in the middle of the map it’s heavily guarded and you’ll have to colonize it and hold it for 8 months. During this time Valkyries will spawn from the gate trying to reclaim the land so leave at least some armies there to defend it. If you lose the land and retake it the counter restarts.

This is the best place to kill 10 Valkyries and obtain the Legendary Guardian (B) Trophy

It looks like this:

Hellheim_Icon.png

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/470.jpg The Mystic (B)

Win by taking control of Yggdrasil [not in Story Mode]

Note that the Map victory setting needs to be on and the victory tile in the middle is random.

The Yggdrasil is a map victory tile in the middle of the map it is protected by 4 Valkyries and requires 1500 Food.png to colonize.

Colonization of this Area takes a lot longer than usual, once accomplished you achieve Victory.

1500 is a lot of food, so when you see the tree is in the middle and you want to go for this victory start to prepare with building and/or upgrading your silo’s to be able to hold that amount of food.

Now you’re happy if you’re the Goat clan.

The tile has a big blue tree on it like this:

Yddrasiil_icon.png

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/4f4.jpg The Smith (B)

Win by forging the Sword of Odin [not in Story Mode]

Note that the Map victory setting needs to be on and the victory tile in the middle is random.

The Magma Flow is a map special Victory condition, to achieve this victory a Forge must be built in the area and the Sword of Odin forged by forging the 3 pieces (each part costs 15 Iron.png Iron)

This Area is protected by four Valkyrie.

If you see this tiles in the middle start saving up Iron as 45 is A LOT.

Note that it might be called Anvil of Gods on PS4, can someone confirm this?

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/b72.jpg Ragnarok (B)

Win a Ragnarok game

Ragnarok is like a solo game, how ever there are no map victories, instead there is a volcano in the middle which sometimes out bursts leaving stones in your territory, you can farm those for stone, if you don’t they’ll change into rock golems, kill 10 of those to gain the Rock Smasher (B)

Trophy, note that these 10 don’t have to be “in a single game” like the other kill related trophies.

Also the Myrkalfar are a new race in the Ragnarok game mode, like with kobolds and giants (Jotnar) you can trade with them, trading with them enough will have them befriend you, trophy!. (see Myrkalfar & Co. (B) for details.

For this Ragnarok trophy simply win the game by any of the available victory conditions.

Any clan will do, per example:180wolf, 30 bear and 40 stag victories will unlock this trophy. Both northgard and Ragnarok games count

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/b45.jpg Aggressor (B)

Win with the clan of the Wolf [not in Story Mode]

See Warlord (B) for my advice on game type but any game type you win with this clan will do. When you play this clan make sure you built their unique relic at least once to unlock The Taste of Blood (B).

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/18f.jpg Proud (B)

Win with the clan of the Stag [not in Story Mode]

See King of Northgard (B) for my advice on game type but any game type you win with this clan will do. When you play this clan make sure you built their unique relic at least once to unlock This is Mine Now (B).

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/19b.jpg Survivor (B)

Win with the clan of the Goat [not in Story Mode]

So the Goat clan, they are alright in everything but not specialized in anything except food. They’re great for the Yggdrasil victory (see ] The Mystic (B))

But as that’s a random change of 1/3 you might not want to aim for that with this clan. Just win a game on any condition and make sure you built their unique relic at least once to unlock Try Not to Break This One (B).

the

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/33c.jpg Merchant (B)

Win with the clan of the Raven [not in Story Mode]

See Great Merchant (B) for my advice on game type but any game type you win with this clan will do. When you play this clan make sure you built their unique relic at least once to unlock A "Small" Delivery (B).

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/d3d.jpg Stalwart (B)

Win with the clan of the Bear [not in Story Mode]

See Warlord (B) for my advice on game type but any game type you win with this clan will do. When you play this clan make sure you built their unique relic at least once to unlock This is not Over Compensation (B).

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/f92.jpg Recluse (B)

Win with the Clan of the Boar [not in Story Mode]

See The Wise (B) for my advice on game type but any game type you win with this clan will do. When you play this clan make sure you built their unique relic at least once to unlock Do NOT Step on its Tail (B).

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/650.jpg Purge (B)

Kill 20 Draugar in a single game [not in Story Mode]

Draugar are the ugly grey looking fellas but not the small once, the small once are kobolds I mean these:

UnitsBig_29.png

20 is a lot for a single game so when you find a tile with “Draugr Tombs” kill all the Draugr’s on it but don’t colonize the tile, they will respawn there, clean up every now and then as the max is 4 of them on the tile, also they attack adjacent tiles so build towers around it to help you defend against them and get the count up.

When you are victorious you can “keep playing” if you didn’t hit 20 Draugr kills yet.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/dad.jpg Wolf Hunter (B)

Kill 20 Wolves in a single game [not in Story Mode]

Wolves, like bears, are wild animals which spawn on every map randomly 20 is quite a lot but there are wolven caves which will spawn wolves until you colonize it. Simply build towers in all adjustment land as the wolfs might attack you but are too weak for a tower and these kills count, and every now and then wipe them from the tile as there is a maximum number that will spawn so keep their numbers low. You can keep the game running after victory if you didn’t unlock the trophy yet just to kill the wolves

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/901.jpg Dragonslayer (B)

Kill the Wyvern [not in Story Mode]

The wyvern is a random event which can happen on any map no matter the settings. When you discover the wyvern you’ll get fame, when you kill it you’ll gain a wooping 250 fame and military experience. It’s a strong beast with 250hp, but it doesn’t heal so you can attack it with a small army, retreat to heal yourself and repeat.

Note the trophy clearly stated not in story mode so the you encounter in chapter 8 doesn’t unlock the trophy when killed.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/f6b.jpg Legendary Guardian (B)

Kill 10 Valkyries in a single game [not in Story Mode]

Valkyries are the dark elven looking females with red hair and spears they are stronger then your average military so don’t go in for a one-on-one unless you bring your war chief.

10 is a fair amount and it’s not likely you’ll find 10 to kill before your opponent takes a few off the map unless you find the gates to Helheim (see The Protector (B)) they will keep spawning from the gate over time so farm them here.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/54d.jpg Bear Hunter (B)

Kill 3 bears in a single game [not in Story Mode]

Bears are… bears.. wild animals on the map like wolves, 3 is not too bad but not a small amount. If you play a medium sized map you might have challenge killing 3 as they are not so strong and your opponents will kill them before you can get to them. If you have trouble killing 3 on a medium size map try a bigger map for less competition in the bear hunt.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/6ca.jpg Rock Smasher (B)

Kill 10 Rock Golems

In the Ragnarok game mode there is a volcano in the middle which sometimes out bursts leaving stones in your territory, you can farm those for stone, if you don’t they’ll change into rock golems, kill 10 of those to gain this trophy, note that these 10 don’t have to be “in a single game” like the other kill related trophies.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/af7.jpg Friend of the Jötnar (S)

Unlock the Giant's Warchief [not in Story Mode]

The Jötnar can spawn on any map, you can trade food with them to make them friends with you, once you’ve traded enough food, you’ll get the Giant’s war chief to join your military units and unlock the trophy.

To trade you need to build a trading post and unlock the trade knowledge with lore points.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/5d8.jpg Kobold Wipe Out (B)

Destroy a Kobold camp [not in Story Mode]

Kobolds are the small grey dudes with the wooden huts, you can trade with them to be nice, or kill them all and colonize their huts to get this trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/050.jpg Myrkalfar & Co. (B)

Befriend the Myrkalfar

the Myrkalfar are a new race in the Ragnarok game mode, like with kobolds and giants (Jotnar) you can trade with them, trading with them enough will have them befriend you. And unlock the trophy, note they only trade stone, which is not as rare on a Ragnarok map then normal thanks to the rock golems but worth keeping an eye on.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/982.jpg Great Explorer (B)

Explore every zone of Northgard [not in Story Mode]

Your scouts explore zones, they need to be updated to go through enemy territories. When you explored each zone (no need to colonize) the trophy is yours. Note you can win the game and keep playing to get this trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/e0e.jpg Hot water (B)

Colonize 1 geyser tile [not in Story Mode]

Geysers are tiles on the map that give you -10% wood consumption in winter and give you +2 happiness. They are mostly lightly guarded, they spawn random in both Northgard and Ragnarok modes you’ll capture one in your 250 games.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/f47.jpg Contact with Thor (B)

Colonize the Thor Wrath tile once [not in Story Mode]

This is a random event which means that Thor Wrath tile can spawn but doesn’t have to on any map no matter the size or any other game setting (so he can spawn on northgard and Ragnarok).

The tile needs to be claimed for the trophy and normally is guarded. When clamed your armies get a bonus and you gain some fame.

The tile looks like this:

Thor_Wrath_Tile.png

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/8938/e68.jpg Bird Enthousiast (B)

Heal Vedrfolnir once [not in Story Mode]

On any map you might see a bird wounded on the floor, you have to colonize this land and heal the bird with a healer, when you do you get the trophy (and +100 lore bonus).

This is a random event which means that Vedrfolnir can spawn but doesn’t have to on any map no matter the size or any other game setting (so he can spawn on northgard and ragnarok).
