All I can say is it's way to early in the game to be this irritated.

I've never played Dark Souls, I never want to. But I concur about the lack of the checkpoint thing. I mean, right out of the gate they throw a boss at you and if you fail you have to start from the beginning? Umm, I'm learning the game, dudes...

Maybe I need to wait for the patch to install, but I can sense this one's gonna be frustrating.

The first boss is barely a minute away from the start and you can skip all the enemies along the way. It's not even really a boss, it's a tutorial. Personally, instead of getting agitated, I looked at it from a trophy hunting perspective. You need to grind a million souls, something that took me a couple hours after earning every other trophy so look at those short runs as opportunities to collect more souls and reducing the amount of grinding you'll do later.

Most of the bosses are really close to a checkpoint. Make sure to activate the nearest serpent hole. Half of them are within 10 seconds of one. The Sloth one is the worst. I struggled with it and left it until I was level 35 and came back and wrecked him. If you're going for platinum, look at any deaths as an opportunity to farm souls.

The game isn't perfect. I played most of the game before the two patches that came out at launch and it's much improved from those earlier states and it's getting much better. I lost a 7 hour playthrough to a game breaking bug which has been since fixed. Even with all that, I still found the game to be really fun. It actually starts off really difficult and becomes easier every minute from there. Just make sure to collect all the crystals, artifacts and adamantine you can find. You can level yourself up really quick by shattering all your crystals into souls to make things much easier on you.

I didn't like how the game stops to load often but got used to it. Most are for just a few seconds. I didn't like how off I got lost but once I found the path I realized I was just being stupid.

How is the level scaling - if you beat Sloth at level 35 - you probably went for other Sins before him - don't enemies scale after beating a Sin

Balanced difficulty is more like hard and not balanced at all - you lose health from falling in a ravine (about 1/4) and enemies take off too much health tbh.

Finding and selecting the required shard from the item selector has caused me a few deaths (I prefer the item wheel from Darksiders 1 & 2)

First boss fight being tutorial I get, but the whole "learn the traversal while fighting this thing or get hit with an attack that wipes out half your health" wasn't cool. And I have platinumed dark souls 3 and bloodborne, the souls vibes in this game are rampant but there are still some enemies that did make me scream and cuss at the tv, then calmed down and came back and they were only slightly less irritating. Last night the game decided to just not have audio anymore, missed out on hearing a post-boss cutscene...

I don't like quiet environs. the lack of bgm irritates me

Edit:

I do not like this game

I have only played the game for about 3 hours. I don't even want to play it anymore. I'd rather just watch re-runs of Star Trek on broadcast TV than play this. I'd rather play Fat Princess on the Vita than play this. WTF is wrong with me?

I do not like the loss of progress and constant re-trecking

I do not like the damage ratios. If this were a Zelda game, you basically have 1 heart! I am playing on NORMAL. NORMAL! Not APOCALYPTIC! This is just bullshit! Both War and Death had ample health. Fury has like NONE. Can't wait for the SJW's to grab onto that...

I do not like a battle system that wants you to avoid being hit when surrounded but hides all the enemies off screen with a shitty camera angle

I do not like the loss of my souls every time I die

I especially HATE the healing potions. I press up like all the time, but it doesn't register! And it doesn't matter anyway, because if I heal I have to stop moving and just get hit anyway fucking voiding the healing.

They even made bombs annoying.

This is no where near as enjoyable as the other 2. I was afraid of this. And I was justified. Now it's too late to go back for a refund.

Fury herself is fine to play as. But I agree with other posters in other threads, this just doesn't feel like Darksiders. At all.

[spoiler=darksiders3sucks]

The children throwing bombs in an area with trip wires

Catacombs:

Enemies shooting arrows from above

Finicky jumps to get up to them

Fall damage

Enemies getting in cheap shots as you turn a corner

This game is an insult to the franchise

An abomination

Agreed. Having no block or parry to deal with these ranged enemies is a pain in the ass, especially since they do as much damage as the boss characters.

Can anyone confirm if there’s a new game plus yet? As in, a new mode that allows you to carry over your character upgrades (and possibly your weapon upgrades) into a second play through on a harder difficulty?

I want my fucking money back

Every time I make a tad bit of progress, I get smote due to bullshit, punished with all my fucking progress and NO way to upgrade myself, while ALSO sticking me with whatever Wrath or Arcane I had stocked BEFORE death.

Fuck you THQ Nordic. I would have rather seen Darksiders die from bankruptcy than live through sequels this far off base.

So now I have to backtrack to get all my souls back? Why... to lose them again?

I just defeated Lust, so I guess I'm about 2/3 of the way through the game the way the Hollow upgrades are spaced out. So far, this game's OK, but it has some severe technical problems and for the life of me I don't understand why they copied the restrictions of the Souls games without the benefits.

I don't mind the whole "restarting from Vulgrim stations" thing. If it's accepted that we have to do that with Lanterns in Bloodborne & bonfires in Dark Souls, I don't really see how this is any different. There definitely should have been more of them, though, or space them closer together if they were going to use this design. Once you unlock the shortcuts, the damn things are all over the place, but the first time you go through an area it feels like hours between checkpoints.

I don't get why your Healing Charges can only be refilled by dying or getting a rare drop from enemies. That just makes it needlessly frustrating since when you DO reach a checkpoint, it feels like you can't make much more progress since you probably blew all your healing charges to get there. Then you die further down the lines, and you have to fight through a whole lot of nonsense to get your Souls back. It just doesn't feel fair like the Estus Flask does in the Souls games.

My big issue with the game right now is on the technical side, as the game just CHUGS and for no real discernable reason. The game looks like crap, frequently seeming to fluctuate on texture & model resolutions that make it look like a late-PS2 game pretty much EVERY time it loads in-game.

And SPEAKING of which, the game stops to load constantly and with no discernible pattern. I've seen it stop to load every 5 feet in some areas, and rarely in others. I can only imagine that the game chugs because it's constantly trying to keep track of whether the enemies in the world are dead or not within your current life. For the life of me, I don't get why the devs decided to not have enemies respawn when you stopped at Vulgrim's. All it does is prevent level grinding & make the game run like crap, and frankly if I was the dev I know which issue I'd feel better leaving in.

The cooldown on items is also so prohibitively high that I almost never use them. I've used more items by accident than I have by intention, and I tend to waste them either way because I either blow the item when I don't need it or I die anyway.

I'm still enjoying the game and how there's tons of stuff hidden in little nooks & crannies. But man were the devs just...confused with how they were going to implement the Souls formula here.

Different title, I assume?

I perfectly accept that such mechanic is viable, and can be used in Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Nioh, Lords of the Fallen and et cetera. And just avoid buying that games, they are not to my taste.

Same way Souls fans can be not very fond of God of War or DMC series and will be quite unhappy if they purchase Dark Souls 4 only to discover that it suddenly became GoW clone because devs decided "oh-my-this-new-GoW-reboot-sold-so-well".

I also notice that you are punished for using your items. Each time you go to buy one from Vulgrim the price goes up. Come on...

Do developers even know what it means to make a game fun?

I got to somekind of boss, where I'm supposed to attack it's eyes. I'm watching my attacks just bounce off. Fuck this noise. I got better things to do.

I will reserve judgement till I am further in the game, but my only real complaint so far is the lack of a map.

I like that is like a souls game. I am sad they moved away from the Zelda formula, and I completely understand why some people hate the change. That said, if they were to copy any other game I am glad it is Dark Souls.

There is no NG+, you can only continue after the story to clean up collectibles and stuff, but nothing else.

Same move was in DMC series, so people won't just pass through game throwing resources. Anyway it seems that Darksiders 3 is full of bad "borrowed" decisions.

Just like the rest of the series.

Honestly, I kind of have to roll my eyes at how people tend to place Darksiders 1 & 2 on this pedestal when the entire franchise has proven to be consistently average & reliant on stealing ideas from other franchises. The only reason anyone paid Darksiders 1 any mind is that it was a decent Zelda clone at a time when Nintendo wasn't making any good actual Zelda games (and I'd argue they still aren't, but that's another matter). It had an interesting premise & art style, but it was a mediocre Zelda game with God of War combat. It even managed to steal the Portal gun from that series.

The 2nd game? More of the same, but with a terrible Diablo loot system that made you stop every 5 seconds to compare stats and an open world that was largely pointless. Seriously, do people even remember how tedious Darksiders 2 was?

The series has never had an above-average entry, and none of the entries have had any noteworthy new ideas of their own. To me, this entry is right in line with all the others. I enjoyed the previous ones despite their flaws, and I enjoy this one just the same despite the game constantly crashing and pausing to load. Yes, even on Apocalypse difficulty as I close in on the Platinum.

I'm curious how people would have responded to this game if THQ was able to make their original vision for it following Darksiders 2. If I remember right, Darksiders 3 was originally planned to be a 2 player co-op shooter with Fury & Strife. That would pave the way for the finale in Darksiders 4 with all 4 characters.

What pedestal? No one here said things like that.

I liked Darksiders I (combat was not as smooth as GoW actually, trust me as I completed GoW series several times over starting from PS2, all games except for III and Ascension on max difficulty) as it had it's own unique feel

Darksiders II was worse (it looked like MMORPG project suddenly turned single player, and the story was kind of.. irrelevant) but at least it was playable, and in many ways similar to the first part.

Darksiders III, I wouldn't tire to repeat it even if everyone defending the game tries to ignore it, completely flushed down the toilet the idea of the series in favour of Dark Souls approach. You are playing a Horseman of Apocalypse, not some nameless corpse, and idea that some random undead skeleton takes more than half of your healthbar in one hit is as appropriate as bowsette porn in family Mario game.. oh well, this idea was too hard even for developers.

Still better than Darksouls clone for me.

I have 2 more Sins to kill so I guess I'm almost done.

I'm enjoying it more each time I play but their are a couple things I can't stand....

1. Having to stand still to heal yourself. What was wrong with healing in DS1 & 2 where you could heal while on the move? I can't even count how many times I got hit with a cheap shot and killed while trying to heal. Sometime even being killed while the health bar is refilling.

2. Going along with cheap shots, getting hit off-screen or getting attacked by 4 enemies at once is just an unnecessary frustration.

3. The. Constant. Loading!!! I'm at The Scar where you have to run to the underground area before the tornado comes. Right before I would run down the stairs the game would stop because it had to load. When it was done loading I wouldn't be sprinting and the tornado would take me up.

4. Serious lack of checkpoints. The only upside to this is at least you can earn your souls back from where you died.

I'm not completely done with the game yet, but for right now I'll leave it at a 5 out of 10. I'm liking the story so far and the Sin battles are pretty interesting. The only reason I wouldn't score it higher is because of the reasons listed above. Hopefully they patch it soon to correct some of the bullshit.

I roll my eyes at all the dark souls fascination. i don't get it. why torture yourself?

I see games in the Souls genre as a rewarding challenge instead of a painful experience. That's probably why I'm enjoying this game more than most. I can understand the complaints from those expecting it to be more like the first two games though.

My only real issues with Darksiders 3 are the technical problems and some oddly placed checkpoints. The game is fun and makes me want to keep playing despite some frustrations. Those are the marks of a good game as far as I'm concerned.

This is one of the many things completely ruining this "game"

I have died so many times because I go to heal and it isn't registered.

Fair enough. Not the experience I was hoping for, though.

Darksiders 1 and 2 were not that different. They played exactly the same, minus an inventory system.

This is a radical departure. Not what I wanted from this franchise.

I really dislike companies radically changing their IP's on me...

I didn't say anyone "here" did say things like that. I was largely referring to the reviews. That SAID, we DO have a thread in these forums literally called "Not a Darksiders game". -_-

As for Fury's fragility, that same skeleton could also kill Death in 3-4 hits in Darksiders 2, and I remember people bitching about that then, too. Fragility in a Darksiders game is nothing new, even if Fury is more fragile than her predecessors. Really, only War was fairly durable, even on Apocalypse Difficulty.

What fresh hell is this? An update?

FYI

https://gearnuke.com/darksiders-3-update-version-1-04-patch-notes/

Darksiders 3 Update Version 1.04 (PS4) Patch Notes (PC, Xbox One)

Improvements:

Multiple improvements to help performance and loading. Performance improvements should also significantly reduce stuttering in high-density areas.

Updated Story mode to be more forgiving.

Adjusted invulnerability windows across all difficulties. The windows are consistent on Balanced, Challenging and Apocalyptic and even more significant on easy.

Modified hit indicators for better readability.

Added version number on the main menu.

Fixes:

Added FOV scaling to keep correct FOV on 21:9 monitors.

Fixed various crash issues.

Added Force Respawn functionality. This option is available in the game options menu. It will kill Fury and return her to the last Vulgrim Waypoint that you visited. This option is a last resort to be used if you think you are stuck in an area for whatever reason.

Added functionality on Force respawn that will force the hollows to re-equip to Fury. This is for the issue where Fury’s hollow abilities appear to have stopped working.

Fix for issue where Force blocks were getting stuck in Scar. If you have encountered this issue, it should destroy the stuck block, and if you come back to the area, it will reload the block in the correct starting area.

Fix for issue where certain stacked breakables wouldn’t break in Bonelands.

Fix for issue that would break Gluttony fight. Fix should also fix saves that had this issue.

Fixed multiple issues where players can get Fury into unintended locations or unintended locations without expected Hollows (in some cases Force Respawn may need to be used).

Reduced Fafnir enhancement’s damage output.

Edit:

And an hour of fighting against Gluttony with absolutely NO success reaffirms my absolute HATRED of this game. Just when I thought I was getting the fucking hang of this, they throw this mess at you.

And I can't go any further until I beat this shitstain.

I am SO glad it bombed. Thank god I didn't get the C.E. Glad I cancelled that shit.

Edit 2:

Finally beat Gluttony. Urgh... So cheap. 4 down.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm kinda annoyed by a particular puzzle in the Scar.

I'm pretty far in, I am pretty sure I'm close to the boss.

But I gotta put a block on a switch and the damn tornado keeps removing it. I've tried several different methods to get to and through the door, but I can't pull it off. And that's when I can get Fury to dash instead of ground stomp

Time for a break... *sigh*

Edit:

I figured it out. Not very intuitive that one...

6/7 sins out of the way... Moving on.
