Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier ~ Platinum Walkthrough

Z0bkBTo.png

Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is a narrative adventure video game based on the Planet of the Apes franchise. It takes place between Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes. In terms of gameplay, there's no actual gameplay, only choices. You will be able to decide the fate of both a tribe of apes and a town of human survivors. As their worlds collide after stealing food and starting a war. Your choices of these two sides can lead to a possible 6 different endings. Generally, there are around 3 endings for the game but choices you've made throughout the game can lead to additional ending scenes. These endings are all trophy related.

Trophy-wise, there are only 6 story related trophies. The rest of the trophies are missable, for a total of 29 missable trophies. These trophies are missable based on the choices you have made throughout the game. They come in the forms of endings, supporting certain characters, making certain choices related to conquest/betrayal/survival. As you play, the conflict between the apes and humans can become more tense, violent, peaceful, or leads to a full out war. Sadly, there's no chapter select or any way to get back to certain events. If you failed choices for trophies, you'll have no choice but to do another playthrough.

Thankfully, there's a way to get around this and that is by using :ps+: or a USB Flash Drive to make a backup save at certain places of the game. A Walkthrough can guide you on all choices that needs to be made for all trophies to unlock. It'll take 3 playthroughs opposed to doing about 6 playthroughs (4 if attempted some saving methods with 3 being the lowest) to obtain the Platinum Trophy while using a walkthrough.

EU Version Error: The EU version of the game has an error message when selecting choices which can cause the game to crash. This error message isn't present in the NA version of the game and only seems to apply to the EU version. The game does auto-saves so you will just have to manage the Platinum with the chance that your game can potentially crash. If it does, just reboot the game and redo your choices again from where you last left off based on the last auto-save from Continue.

Everything below this point will contain spoilers!

I highly recommend that you follow the walkthrough so you can reduce the completion time. Using a walkthrough will enable you to obtain all trophies with step-by-step instructions that will make sure you get the Platinum Trophy in only 3 playthroughs. Additionally, you will need to have :ps+: or a USB Flash Drive in order to make use of the walkthrough.

Controls:

  • :ls:/:rs: - Used to make a choice.
  • :left:/:right: - Used to make a choice. I personally used only these two controls instead of the analog sticks.
  • :options: - Pauses the game and brings up the Pause Option menu.

Step 1: Perfect Playthrough

During this playthrough, you'll be focusing on getting the best overall ending of the game by being supportive to characters on the ape side (Juno/Oaka/Khan/Clarence) and on the human side you'll be making Rainey the leader at the end of the game. If you're using the walkthrough as instructed, you'll have 22/36 trophies at the end of this step.

At the end of this Perfect Playthrough, you should have the following trophies:

  • (B) Prologue
  • (B) Two Tribes
  • (B) Wrath of Khan
  • (S) Hail to the Chimp
  • (B) Worlds Collide
  • (S) Orange is the New Black
  • (B) Furball Firestarter
  • (B) Orange Squash
  • (B) Lines in the Sand
  • (B) Ape Lover
  • (S) Banana Daiquiri
  • (B) Swim with the Fishes
  • (B) Ice Breaker
  • (B) Blood for Blood
  • (S) Give Peace a Chance
  • (B) Monkey Love
  • (S) He Ain't Heavy, He's My Bonobo
  • (S) Mommy Dearest
  • (S) You Blew It All to Hell!
  • (B) Make It Rain
  • (G) Appy Ending
  • (S) PriMATES

Step 2: Multiple Endings Playthrough

During this playthrough, you'll be focusing on obtaining some ending trophies which reduces the numbers of playthroughs down dramatically. If you're continuing to use the walkthrough as instructed, you'll have 27/36 trophies at the end of this step.

At the end of this Multiple Endings Playthrough, you should have the following trophies:

  • (B) Primate Instinct
  • (G) Ape-pocalypse Now
  • (S) Planet of the Sapiens
  • (G) Benedict Arnold
  • (S) Planet of the Apes

Step 3: Bad Choices Playthrough

This final playthrough is focused on making bad choices throughout the game such as being supportive of Tola and being mean to Juno during the ape side. On the human side, you'll be going for the Good Instincts (S) trophy of not trusting Willits and Reeves. Along the way, you'll be killing off human survivors for certain trophies to unlock as well as getting the final ending for the game. If you're continuing to use the walkthrough as instructed, you'll have all 36 trophies at the end of this step.

At the end of this Bad Choices Playthrough, you should have the following trophies:

  • (B) Bad Apple
  • (B) Bad APEtitude
  • (B) Bedtime for Juno
  • (S) Good Instincts
  • (B) Death in the Family
  • (B) The Hateful Ape
  • (S) Call a Medic!
  • (G) The Greater Good
  • (P) Monkey See, Monkey Do

Step 4: Cleanup

This is an optional step, if you've missed any trophies during your playthroughs. There is no chapter select, so you will have to play through the entire game again until you get whatever you have missed.

Remember, this Trophy Guide is aimed to reveal when a trophy will unlock and what the reason/cause goes behind unlocking that trophy. This Trophy Guide will not tell you all the exact choices needed to be selected just to get certain trophies to unlock. It's best to follow a Text Walkthrough for those paths. This guide will not go over all possible options/routes needed to unlock a trophy either because some trophies do have 1-3 different ways to go about unlocking them.

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

[spoiler=apepo]This is an ending trophy, where all the following characters need to be alive:

  • Apes:
    • Bryn
    • Juno or Brutus (doesn't matter who you saved on the metal bridge)
    • Tola

    [*]Humans:

    • Jess
    • Rainey
    • Mark
    • Maria
    • Willits
    • Reeves

The key to triggering this ending is by having Bryn choose to leave Maria prisoner. This causes many things to happen as a Maria is needed to warn Jess and Rainey about the soldiers coming on the train to take over the town and wipe the apes out. Essentially, Willits and Reeves will take over the town and with their men which also results in the no peace ending. This ending will have all the Apes dying when they attack the town, the humans will win the war and Jess/Mark (if alive)/Maria/Rainey will all be exiled from their own town by the new leader, Willits.

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

[spoiler=appye]This is an ending trophy, where all the following characters need to be alive:

  • Apes:
    • Bryn
    • Juno (Optional: He can be dead since Bryn can kill Tola himself with No Mercy. Most people will save Juno over Brutus though for this ending.)

    [*]Humans:

    • Jess
    • Rainey
    • Mark (Note: Mark needs to be alive, so you need to be supportive of towards him throughout the game)
    • Maria
    • Willits

The key to triggering this ending is by killing off both Brutus and Tola on the apes side and having Willits and Reeves killed on the humans side. Now, there are many things that factor into this ending especially who's alive and dead. This ending is the best ending you can get in the game and requires you to save Mark's live on the metal bridge and let Maria out. After letting Maria out of the prison to warn Jess about the train of soldiers coming. Jess and Maria need to kill Reeves by you doing either of the following:

Results in Maria killing Reeves herself:

  • Fail the ESCAPE
  • Fail the ATTACK

Results in Maria killing Reeves herself:

  • Succeed in ESCAPE
  • Succeed in ATTACK
  • Succeed in SHOOT

You will then switch back to Bryn who needs to win the fight against his brother Tola. There are multiple ways to win this fight but it can be done by selecting no mercy (see The Hateful Ape (B)) or if Juno is alive, he will save Bryn's life (see He Ain't Heavy, He's My Bonobo (S)). The final scenes where you switch back to Jess and the group, you simply need to have Jess select the Shoot choice which will kill Willits but keeps Mark alive. If your Mark dies it was because you were a bad mother towards him. You needed to be supportive of him (see Mommy Dearest (S)). A series of endings will then trigger with this being one of them and unlocking.

It should be noted that this ending is best combined with the Make it Rain (B) trophy. That trophy requires Jess to make Rainey the leader at the end of the game. Truth is, this is an additional ending cutscene and can only unlock if going for the perfect ending. Highly missable, but the walkthrough will unlock it for you easily.

Jess betrays confidences

Highly Missable

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

[spoiler=bene]This is an ending trophy, where all the following characters need to be alive:

  • Apes:
    • Bryn
    • Juno or Brutus (doesn't matter who you saved on the metal bridge)
    • Tola

    [*]Humans:

    • Jess
    • Rainey
    • Mark
    • Maria
    • Willits
    • Reeves

The key to triggering this ending is by having Jess betray Bryn and work together with Willits and Reeves. When you do this ending, Willits will kill Bryn who's hiding in the same room and listening to their conversation. To get this to happen, you need to have Bryn let Maria out of the prison cage so they can go to Jess and warn her about the soldiers coming. During the conversation with Willits who comes to visit Jess in jail. Jess will have options to betray Bryn or not. Now this is missable based on choices you have made throughout the game. It's best to do this ending with having Jess make choices that goes against peace and joining the apes. If you do this correctly throughout the game, there should be options of selecting the following:

How to betray and kill Bryn when Jess is in jail:

  • "I'm Listening"
  • "You Mean Work Together?" RECEPTIVE
  • Betray Bryn

Selecting those choices will unlock the trophy. If you follow the walkthrough, you'll get this and many other ending trophies by doing a :ps+:/USB save method.

It should be noted that if you only have the options of "Just Let Us Out!" DEMANDING or "What About The Town?" SKEPTICAL, then this trophy's ending won't unlock since it was voided by previous actions/mistakes.

Jess puts her life on the line

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

[spoiler=thegr]This is an ending trophy, where all the following characters need to be alive:

  • Humans:
    • Jess
    • Rainey
    • Willits

The key to triggering this ending is by having having Jess make the ultimate sacrifice by killing herself and along with Willits at the end of the game. To get this to happen, you need certain humans to die which is Mark dying on the metal bridge (by not shooting the ice and failing the shotgun; see Death in the Family (B)) and Maria dying to Reeves. The apes outcome really doesn't matter as along as Mark and Maria are both dead. Since you need Maria to die, that means you need Bryn to let Maria out of the prison cage and then do the following when fighting Reeves

How to get Reeves to kill Maria:

  • Fail the ESCAPE (It's important to fail ESCAPE or else Maria will not die)
  • Succeed in ATTACK
  • Fail SHOOT

This will result in Reeves killing Maria at the town. When Jess is confronted by Willits who has her at gunpoint, select the following:

  • "So Many Dead Because Of You" TAUNT
  • Detonate

This results in Jess detonating the C4 and taking both her and Willits' life. If you follow the walkthrough, you'll get this ending by doing a :ps+:/USB save method to save yourself some time and trouble of obtaining this ending.

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

[spoiler=PriMATES]This is an ending trophy, where all the following characters need to be alive:

    • Juno (Optional: He can be dead since Bryn can kill Tola himself with No Mercy)

    [*]Humans:

    • Jess
    • Rainey
    • Mark (Optional: He can be dead but I don't recommend killing him off)
    • Maria (Optional: She can be dead but I don't recommend killing her off)
    • Willits (Note: You need to kill him by selecting Shoot during the end of the game)

This key to triggering this ending is really by having Bryn become the leader of the tribe by killing Tola himself or with Juno's help. However, if you're going for the best overall ending, Appy Ending (G), then you'll unlock both trophies at the same time. I recommend following the walkthrough for the perfect ending route.

Complete the Game (Apes win)

Missable

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

[spoiler=Planetof]This is an ending trophy, where all the following characters need to be alive:

  • Apes:
    • Bryn (Bryn needs to be supportive of Tola the entire game and kill him off. This works even if Jess is peaceful choice route.)
    • Tola
    • Juno or Brutus (doesn't matter who you saved on the metal bridge)

    [*]Humans:

    • Jess (Note: She can kill herself and Willits by selecting Detonate or by you can select Shoot if Mark or Maria are alive to kill Willits)
    • Rainey
    • Mark (Note: He's optional and not needed to be alive)
    • Maria (Note: She's optional and not needed to be alive)
    • Willits (Note: You need to kill him by selecting Shoot during the end of the game or have Jess choose to Detonate)

The key to triggering this ending is by having Bryn get killed by Tola during the fighting scene for leadership of the tribe. This is done by killing off Juno (save Brutus as Bryn) and having Bryn select Reject and Mercy. The mercy choice will result in Tola killing Bryn with a rock when he turns his back on his brother. Since Juno is dead, Juno will not save Bryn from dying to this back stab. Now on the human side of things, truth is Mark and Maria somewhat affect the trophy (Reeves needs to be killed by Maria or Jess). You need one of them alive no matter, so when Willits has one of them at gunpoint. Jess will need to select the option to shoot and kill Willits. With Willits and Reeves out of the picture along with their soldiers (Jess denotes the train with C4). Tola will kill all the remaining soldiers still alive from the explosion and then he will proceed to kill everyone at the town. Willits and Reeves were the only characters capable of killing Tola to prevent this from happening, so the trophy will unlock.

Additionally, Bryn can also get this ending even if he kills Tola. He just needs to be supportive of Tola 90% of the time and hate humans.

The key to triggering this ending is by basically having Willits win the overall ending of the game. This is perhaps the worst ending as well. Simply select Surrender when Willits has someone at gunpoint (can be either Mark/Maria/Jess doesn't matter). The humans will win the war against the apes and Jess and Rainey + whoever else is alive (Mark/Maria) will be exiled from their town.

For this trophy to unlock, you need to be supportive of both Khan and Clarence throughout the game. This will unlock after the apes ambush the humans on the road when they go searching for their stolen steer.

Chapter 4: Blood for Blood

This trophy is highly missable and requires you to be supportive and caring for Juno throughout the entire game. This is quite difficult to unlock due to choices being mixed up with supporting Tola, JOKING and SERIOUS. Some of those things actually goes against Juno which in turn would void the trophy from unlocking.

It is possible to get this trophy along with the Appy Ending (G) and Make it Rain (B) ending playthrough.

Chapter 4: Blood for Blood

For this trophy to unlock, you need to be supportive of Tola throughout the entire game while also being mean towards Juno. Juno is the weakest ape and brother of Bryn and Tola. This trophy is highly missable as it starts from the Chapter 0: Prologue all the way to Chapter 4: Blood for Blood. If done correctly, it will unlock by saving Brutus and letting Juno die during the events on the metal bridge.

The main issue that causes this trophy to be highly missable is both Bryn and Tola's interactions with Juno. Bryn will say somethings like JOKING or SERIOUS and some of the choices that support Tola can be mistaken with a choice that is actually supporting Juno. This trophy can be a hassle to figure out on your own. I do recommend that you follow the walkthrough for it which will be a playthrough of supporting Tola throughout the entire game.

It's best to follow a walkthrough so you can get this and the Bedtime for Juno (B) by following the same bad playthrough choice in the walkthrough. Bedtime for Juno is highly missable as Tola's support choices can be confusing and cause you to make a mistake (making you do another playthrough).

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

For this trophy to unlock, you need to be on a more peaceful ending route during your playthroughs. This means Jess needs to be either with the apes or against the ape hunters Willits and Reeves. It's possible to do this with other endings as well but doesn't always register if requirements weren't met. For it to unlock, Jess needs to shoot and kill Willits.

I recommend combining this trophy with the Appy Ending (G) and Make it Rain (B) trophies mainly because it'll unlock just by going for those endings. Make it Rain is highly missable as well and following a walkthrough will easily help you unlock these trophies together.

Chapter 4: Blood for Blood

This trophy is highly missable and requires you to be hostile, aggressive, and angry towards Willits and Reeves. They're the ape hunters who plan to take over the town with their soldiers and kill all the apes. This trophy will start in during the Chapter 0: Prologue all the way to Chapter 4: Blood for Blood. It unlocks when selecting "What The Hell!" HOSTILE and "This Is Our Town!" CONFRONT as Jess. If you didn't get the trophy, it was voided by an action/mistake you made.

It's best to follow a walkthrough for this trophy to save the hassle of figuring it out on your own. Things to keep in mind is that it's best to combine this trophy with one of the worst endings of the game or the ending where Jess makes the ultimate sacrifice. Do not combine this trophy with the perfect ending or the Make it Rain (B) trophy. Doing those things seems to void the trophy and it might not be possible to combine this trophy with those.

For this trophy to unlock, Mark needs to survive the metal bridge event and not drown (have Bryn shoot the ice or Jess use the shotgun). During Chapter 5: Truth Revealed, you need to let Maria out of the prison cage, so she can warn Jess about the soldiers. The fighting scene with Tola doesn't matter but when it comes to the scene where Willits has Mark at gunpoint. Have Jess choose to Shoot Willits which will kill him, but Mark will survive and the trophy unlocks.

Additionally, this it's possible for Mark to die on the Shoot selection. If this happens during your playthrough, it was because you weren't 90% supportive of Mark and was always against him. This results in Mark dying to Willits and you will not unlock this trophy since previous choices you made it from unlocking. To prevent this from happening, I recommend combining this trophy with the Appy Ending (G) and Make it Rain (B) trophies mainly because it'll unlock just by going for those endings.

Jess puts the big man in charge

Highly Missable

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

This trophy is highly missable since it basically requires you to complete the entire game and have Rainey become the new leader of the town. It's an additional ending scene where Rainey will comment on Mark's new girlfriend and Jess saying she likes her.

This is difficult to do without following a walkthrough because you need to make choices that favor Rainey. The difficult thing about this are the ape hunters, Willits and Reeves. Their choices can mess your actions up by selecting the wrong choices. Additionally, some of the choices require you to support Moira over Rainey at certain places throughout the game. Now, it's difficult to pinpoint the 'exact choices' you need to select to make this happen. However, if you follow the walkthrough, you'll end up unlocking this trophy easily.

Combine this trophy with the Appy Ending (G) trophy since the Make it Rain (B) trophy requires the best ending of the game for it to unlock.

Jess does the right thing

Story related, cannot be missed.

Chapter 4: Blood for Blood

This trophy will unlock regardless of your choices when Jess' saves Clarence's life from Willits and Reeves.

Jess does what's necessary

Missable

Chapter 3: Lines in the Sand

For this trophy to unlock, you need to let the Ape Hunters continue to beat and torture Clarence while having Jess do nothing and not stop it despite Maria’s pleas.

Choices that can unlock the trophy:

  • "Sure He Can Talk?" UNCERTAIN
  • "Maria Is Right"
  • Listen To Rainey
  • Say Nothing

Chapter 4: Blood for Blood

For this trophy to unlock, you need to save Mark's life before he drowns and freezes to death. This is easily done by simply having Bryn shoot the ice and not at Jess. You can also have Jess save her son by using the shotgun that Maria throws to her. Additionally, the Swim with the Fishes (B) trophy can be combined with this one.

Bryn covers up a mistake

Missable

Chapter 2: When Worlds Collide

For this trophy to unlock, Bryn needs to lie to his father by covering up the mistake they made by stealing the steer from the humans. Choices for these is quite simple, but it's best to get this trophy unlock with the support Tola playthrough.

Choices that unlock this trophy:

  • "Yes It Is True" LIE
  • "We Took Steer This Is Good Thing" REVEAL
  • "Yes It Is Father" COVER - UP
  • "We Had To Take Steer" UNREPENTANT
  • "We Killed One" ASHAMED

A chilling ending

Missable

Chapter 4: Blood for Blood

For this trophy to unlock, you need to have Mark die by failing to save his life. This is done by having Jess fail the Action Choices and not having Bryn shoot the ice (he needs to shoot at Jess).

Chapter 4: Blood for Blood

Bryn shows no mercy

Missable

Chapter 5: Truth Revealed

For this trophy to unlock, Bryn must choose to kill his older brother Tola by selecting the no mercy choice. Basically, Bryn needs to win the fight for leadership of the tribe by killing off Tola.

Set an ape on fire

Missable

Chapter 3: Lines in the Sand

For this trophy to unlock, you need to have Jess shoot the flare at the ape and not in the sky. There's also another scene that follows shortly after this first flare choice, but it's an Action Choice decision. The Action Choice can also set an ape on fire which can also unlock this trophy.

A rather pointed decision

Missable

Chapter 3: Lines in the Sand

For this trophy to unlock, Jess must select the spear and not the gun. This will result in her throwing the spear at the ape coming to kill her in self-defense.

Just a teeny tiny thing about the "Make It Rain" trophy: I'm pretty sure it's not exactly for favoring Rainey (since a full pro-Rainey run won't unlock it for you), but rather for siding him with at times and opposing him at times (mostly on specific ape hunter parts or when against Maria - most importantly the "Support Maria" choice instead of the "Defend Rainey" one). That's what makes him question your leadership skills.

Also, have you tested if Mommy Dearest can be earned on a playthrough where the "Shoot" option at the tracks is fatal for both parties as Mark won't survive it if he's not at a good standing with Jess?

It should unlock if Mark is alive no matter what. I had a playthrough where Jess told mark if he is going on the hunt to kill the apes at their tribe. He says something like 'this is his town too'. in other playthroughs, Jess is okay with Mark going and he smiles. So I don't think that matters.

Okay, but the opposing dialogue on an "anti-Mark" playthrough actually has her tell him he can't go and him furiously running off saying he will go and Jess can't stop him :)

Either way, all the interaction trophies unlock on the "final interaction" with the relevant characters, so I'd probably add the detail for Bad Apple and Bad APEtitude that they're also for being anti-Khan and anti-Clarence, not just pro-Tola.

He goes no matter what. I'll make updates later today now that the walkthrough is done.

I'll make updates to be more clearer on trophy requirements. They are actually 90% supportive against or with certain characters. Yes, you do need to agree with Tola/Brutus and disagree with apes like Clarence/Juno/Oaka for those to unlock.

I know he goes no matter what, I was just wondering if being anti-Mark fails the Mommy Dearest triggers, like similiar trophies for Juno are failed if you go too far anti/pro-Juno :) Mark will die on the "Shoot" if you're fully anti-Mark. Of course, I guess trophy-wise not dodging the bullet can count as demonstrating his feelings for Jess xD

Also, another note for Apes Win: You can also win with Bryn AND Tola taking over the town and with just Bryn doing it :)

I am aware of that ending already and had put a note there. Don't worry.

As for Mark dying, that is news to me. Kid always alive on Shoot based on my playthroughs. He died on one of your "Shoot" playthroughs?

Yup, if you're anti-Mark throughout, he will die from the "Shoot" choice. You can even see it on the

video at 12:47. That's why I'm asking if you've tested it since that death depends on your relationship with Mark :)

For the Apes Win ending, Mark and Maria don't need to be alive on a bad Bryn playthrough if you've otherwise gone down the peaceful route with Jess as the "Jess alone" ending allows for an Apes Win ending with Bryn.

I'll watch it. No, none of my playthroughs got that result because I was making sure they were able to get all trophies or the ones I intended to unlock within a playthrough.

Edit: That ending was more cold and hostile. Interesting. Never seen it before. :)

I might make an update about the EU version. Some people say on PSNP's forums that they are experiencing error messages. I have the NA version and never encountered any error messages. I believe this error issue is only in the EU version of the game. I'll ask the developers about it shortly.

Thanks for the guide - it was a big help!

No prob, glad it helped. Awesome first post by the way. ;)

Yeah, I had error messages/crashes. They tended to happen in the shoot/surrender confrontation all the time.
