SHADOWGATE WALKTHROUGH

 

Note that this walkthrough will not tell you when to replenish your torches. It is up to you to keep an eye on the lit torches in your inventory and use one of your stock when the flame has gone low. If your torches go out, it's game over!

 

At some point, your torches will sync and start to go out at the same time. There's no need to have both lit at the same time, so try to stagger when you light new ones – let one burn completely out before lighting a new one and you should be fine for the rest of the game.

 

Also, I have you picking up a lot of stuff you're not actually going to use. It's easier than trying to explain which nondescript item to pick up. I may go back at some point and rework the Shadowgate walkthrough, or feel free to do so yourself if you'd like.

 

 

Use lit torch on self x3 – A Danger to Yourself (B) unlocked

Open skull (above door)

Take Key 1

Open door

Move into door

 

Take both torches

Use Key 1 on door in front of you

Move into door

 

Take both torches – notice that one is special and gets its own inventory slot while the other is added to your generic torch inventory.

Open book

Take Key 2 (it looks like it's already in your inventory; it's not. You still need to pick it up from the inventory screen)

Move south (the room you just came from)

 

Use Key 2 with east door (closet)

Move through east door

Take sword

Take sling

Move south

Move north (the room with the book)

 

Move north

Open east door

Move through east door

 

You are in a room with a shark and a skeleton

Open north door

Move through north door

Take one of the stones from the ground

Move through waterfall (click on the waterfall with “Move” active)

 

Hit rock

Take Bag 1

Move south x3 – you will be back in the room with three doors

 

Open west door

You are in a cell-looking room

Take both torches

Use white gem (click the boxes next to the up/down arrows to access more of your inventory) in the hole next to north door

Take crystal sphere

You are in the dragon's lair

Take shield

Take helmet – Melting Point (B) unlocked

 

Continue game – you are back in the room where you got the sphere

Near the bottom of the screen is a stone that doesn't look like the others – it's lighter and has a dark crescent mark on it. Use this stone

You are in a room with a sphinx. The riddle is random, and the answer is an item in your inventory that you must use with the sphinx. If you pick the wrong item, you will be warped to a random place in the castle and must make your way back to the sphinx to try again. Here are the answers:

 

“I'm a fire's friend” - bellows

“Long neck” - broom

“I've no eyes” - skull

“It has towns” - map

“First burnt” - horseshoe

“You look at me” - mirror

 

Move east up the stairs

Take star (on map)

You are in a room with an imprisoned woman

Take blade – Damsel in Distress (B) unlocked

 

Continue game – you are in the observatory

Move north into mansion

 

You are in the foyer

Open north door

Move through north door

Open any of the doors x2 – Hello Beautiful (B) unlocked

 

Continue game – you are in the foyer

Open east door

Move through east door – you are in the library

Take magic book

Move south

Open bottom right door

Move through bottom right door – you are in a closet

 

Take No Ghost (third shelf up)

Take spray (third shelf up)

Open No Ghost

Move south x2 – you are back in the 1F hallway

From now on, you will start seeing the red Game Over skull while playing. This is because the ruby is slowly cursing you. You aren't actually getting game overs.

Open and Examine magic book (in inventory) – you'll learn several spells and the book will vanish

Use DOLLDOLL spell – you will learn another spell from the doll

Open north door

By this point, you should have seen the red Game Over skull twice since picking up the ruby. This backyard is the first place where you can actually drop inventory items. So Examine something in the picture and keep spamming :cross: to keep examining until you see the Game Over skull two more times and unlock Consumed (B).

 

Continue game – you are back in the trophy room.

Move through north door

Leave ruby (just click anywhere in the yard when it asks where to leave it)

 

Move through middle path (greenhouse)

Open door

Move through door

Take watering can

Use watering can with empty pot on floor x2

Move south

Open faucet

Use watering can with faucet

Close faucet

Move north

Use watering can with pot on floor – it should now have fruit

Take fruit

Exit south x2 – you are back in the backyard

 

Move through right path

Use THUNDEDE spell to move dogs

Open north door

Move through north door – you are now in the chapel

 

Use matches with candles

Take candles

Take goblet

Use O SESAME spell

Move through top left door

You are now in a maze. SAVE YOUR GAME so you have something easy to come back to if you mess up. Or you can use the TELEMAZE spell. Or you can refer to this map to help you navigate.

 

Move: North / West x2 / North x2 / West x2 / North x4 / East x5.

You should be in front of a singular zombie.

Use pendant on zombie

Move: East / South x2

Use bouquet with tombstone

Move west

Use Key 1 with lock on back wall

Use cage on the hawk

Move south x2 – you're in front of a....something. Tomato. Thing.

Take jewel

Use TELEMAZE spell to get back to the outside of the maze

 

Move south x3 – you are back in the backyard

Move thorugh left path – you are at the front of the Magisterium.

Use jewel in the hole at the top of the door

Move through door

Use fruit with guardian

Open north door

Move through north door - you are in a laboratory.

 

Open wall safe – the combination is 79 / 47 / 80.

Use axe on jar in safe – you'll end up with a cookie in your inventory

Move south x5 – you are back in the game room

Use cookie with plate on floor

A demon – you may have seen this dude already – will dance by and leave a key on the plate

Take Key 2

Move north x2 – you are back in the back yard

Move through left path

Move north x2 back into the laboratory

Use Key 2 with manhole cover on floor

Move through manhole cover

 

You are now underground

Move north – you are in front of a spider

Note: you can also access this spider death by going through the secret passage in the chapel, but this will not unlock the trophy.

Hit the spider or just try to move past it – Persistence (B) unlocked

 

Continue game – you are back in the underground

Move west

Use star with ice

You will be automatically moved forward a few rooms

Use body in water with hole

Move north through the cave

Use Key 2 with north door

Move through north door – you are back in the house

 

Open west door

Move through west door – you are back in the dining room

Move east

Move north – you are back in 2F hallway

 

Move through top left door

Open back right door

Move through back right door – you are in a bathroom

Open faucet on bathtub

Examine something 6-7 times – Cloggage (B) unlocked

 

Continue game – you are back in the bedroom

Move through back right door

Keep opening the light on the ceiling as the room fills with water until you actually open it

Move through hole in ceiling

You are now in the attic.

 

Hit your sister

Hit the demon, or just try to move past him – Welcome Home (S) unlocked

 

(If you want to actually beat the game, use the goblet with the demon, then move north out of the window)

In the background are several slot machines. Use your coins on the far right machine until you have at least 10 coins. You don't have to press the buttons – the slot machine will automatically stop. If you're down to your last coin, the machine will always pay out. Just keep trying and eventually you'll hit a jackpot. Once you have at least 10 coins in your inventory, continue (you'll be taking the cab three times, and the cabbie SHOULD only ask you for three coins every time you make a trip. If this is not true, let me know – I did this entire walkthrough starting with 20 coins in my inventory, but only ended up spending 9.)

 

Move south

Get onto elevator

Hit the second button from the top

Exit elevator – you're back with the body

Move north out window

Move south to the street

Open manhole cover

Move back and forth between the alley and the street until a mugger with a gun appears

Speak to the mugger or try using your gun on him – Street Violence (B) unlocked

(If this happens again, Hit the mugger and he'll go away. You can only do this three times; you shouldn't need that many)

 

Continue game – you are back in the alley

Move into manhole

Move south

Move east

Move west

Keep moving between this screen and the next until the alligator spawns

Hit the alligator or try to move past it – Urban Legend (B) unlocked

 

Continue game – you are back in the sewers and are probably in front of a ladder with exits north, west (alligator) and east.

Move east – you should be back at the four-way intersection.

Move north x2 – you are back in the alley

Move north into the street in front of the bar

 

Use Key 2 with car door

Move into car

Use hood release button to the left of the pedals – Oldest Trick (B) unlocked

 

Continue game – you are back outside of the car

Move into car

Open glove compartment on right

Examine Note 2 – you'll get an address (WESTEND)

Exit east – you'll be in front of a police station

 

Move back and forth between the police station and the bar until the lady in red spawns. Once she does, Examine her a few times or just try to leave and she'll shoot you – 100% Noir (B) unlocked

Hit her so you can leave (she has a gun in her purse you can take if you didn't take the one from the bathroom earlier)

Move west a few times until you end up in front of the Guns & Ammo store

Open door to store

Move into store

Use gun (in your inventory, not the one on screen) with the shop keeper, or Hit him – Desperate (B) unlocked

 

Continue game – you are outside the gun store

Move west

Move into blue cab (address PEORIA learned)

Speak to driver

Use address WESTEND

Use coins with “Pay Here” slot

Move east out of cab

Open north door

Move through north door

 

Use card with elevator button
