Fated: The Silenced Oath is a story based on Norse mythology made exclusively for VR devices. It’s more an interactive story than it is a game, which tells a tale of a clan on the run for Ragnarök (in short: the end of time and the start of a new era). Initially the creators meant for this to be an episodic experience, but it’s been a long time since anyone’s heard of a new episode. Because of this the ending leaves you with a lot of questions and many of the main plots remain unexplored, which is a real shame. It’s still a nice experience for what it is though and it’s a nice addition to the library of VR games.

The game is controlled with a DS4 controller and the PSVR Headset itself, so no Move controllers are required for this (or even possible to use). Although you can walk around freely, most of the game the camera works a bit different than in other games as it doesn’t turn fluidly, but instead changes the angle of view in increments. Note that the angle at which the camera shifts with :rs: can be adjusted and a comfort grid can be applied to counter motion sickness, both with help of the :dpad:. Here’s a full oversight of the controls:

  • :ls: - Walk
  • :rs: - Move Camera
  • :l2: - Control left hand
  • :r2: - Control right hand
  • :cross: - Actions
  • :up:/:down:/:left:/:right: - Adjust angle / comfort grid
  • PS VR Headset movement for answering questions (nodding yes or no and moving the reticle).

Step 1: Play through the game

Since there are no missable trophies and every single one of them is obtained through normal story progression, there’s just one step which is simply to complete the game. Although this is more of an interactive movie, there is still some platforming to do and a few light puzzles to solve. Also in some parts of the game it’s possible to die; however, you can just start at the last checkpoint.

Please refer to the trophy guide below for more information and a short run-through of the different acts in the game. Note that in there will be spoilers/story information that can possibly ruin your experience, so please only refer to those if you get stuck.

Your life for your voice!

Story related, cannot be missed

This trophy will pop upon completion of the prologue. For a short run-through of the chapter see the spoiler below.

[spoiler=Fated1]In the prologue you will find yourself terminally hurt and in the back of carriage. A mystical creature from the afterlife offers you to give you back your life in trade for your voice. When she makes you this offer just nod yes with your head right away, because in the end the ‘trade’ will always happen anyway. The trophy won’t pop until at the end of the chapter.

Gudbrand... sold... our... souls.

Story related, cannot be missed

This trophy will pop upon completion of Act I. For a short run-through of the chapter see the spoiler below.

[spoiler=Fated2]After you’re reunited with (what’s left of) your clan and finding out what happened to your village, you’ll go out hunting with your nephew. This is where you first learn how to use the controls, even though they’re not very hard to master. Simply follow your nephew around and shoot the deer until you’re prompted to go back to the camp. The trophy won’t pop until at the end of the chapter.

Come at me, spawn of Ymir!

Story related, cannot be missed

This trophy will pop upon completion of Act II. For a short run-through of the chapter see the spoiler below.

[spoiler=Fated3]In this chapter you’ll be riding your coach. After a while you’ll get attacked by a giant and you’ll have to steer your family’s way to safety. Although you can take a lot of damage, try to avoid the falling rocks but even more so try to avoid falling into the abyss. If you fall and die you can start from the last checkpoint. The trophy won’t pop until at the end of the chapter.

Trial of the gods

Story related, cannot be missed

This trophy will pop upon completion of Act III. For a short run-through of the chapter see the spoiler below.

[spoiler=Fated4]After the escaping the giant you and your family will be in a cave and completely separated from the rest of the clan. Proceed through the caves and you’ll come at the first ‘puzzle’ of the game. After a small cutscene you have to approach the 3 pedestals (watch the white glow on the floor to know which you should do first) and press the symbols in the order they light up on the pillars. Look carefully what the symbols look like because some of them are very similar.

After you’ve completed pressing all the right symbols on all 3 pedestals, a lift will take you up and you are being separated from your wife and daughter. Just follow the way and when Ada and your nephew cross the tree bridge, go to the right and take the rope down instead. Enter the cave below through the crack and you’ll find yourself in the trickiest part of the game. You’ll have to cross tree trunk and ledge while avoiding the swinging axes. Tread carefully but not too slow. If you die, even at the last axe, you’ll have to replay from the beginning of this cave again. When you reach the end you’ll find another lift, this time to take you back down again. The trophy won’t pop until at the end of the chapter.

Surely the gods will smile upon us.

Story related, cannot be missed

This trophy will pop upon completion of Act IV. For a short run-through of the chapter see the spoiler below.

[spoiler=Fated5]At the start of this chapter you’ll find a floor with huge tiles, all of which have a symbol on them. In the back of the room you’ll see two rows with symbols and the order in which these symbols are shown is the order in which you’ll have to walk on the tiles (starting with the top row, going from left to right). Once again look carefully because some of the symbols are very similar.

After you’ve crossed the floor you’ll be reunited with your wife and daughter once more and you will traverse further through the cave, discovering some magical things. Simply just keep following the group until you reach the very tragic and anticlimactic end of the story. The trophy won’t pop until at the end of the chapter.

Nice guide. This is one of the games I hope to have 100% for someday whenever I get a VR Bundle. :o

I'd say go for it. It's short and easy but a nice little experience if you can pick it up in a sale. I really do hope they will release the second episode at some point though because the story isn't quite finished.
