Introduction

Koi is a puzzle adventure game developed and published by Oasis Games. You play as a koi who must gather wayward fish to open flowers and save the waters from pollution. It's pretty, and generally relaxing but there's not much substance. It tries and mostly fails, to tell a mostly dialogue-free story, a la Brothers or Journey. It is, however, a relatively painless 100%, so it's perfect for a quick boost to your completion percentage.

rus199410 has made a walkthrough that will net you all the game's collectibles here if you want to use it:

. The collectibles aren't particularly hidden and as long as you're exploring each level, you shouldn't have any issues.

There are two important things to keep in mind: :r1: or :l1: will show you an arrow that will point you to all flowers and fish but the game won't actually save any progress until you finish a level. This includes collectibles cleanup and racking up time for On Time's Side (B).

Walkthrough

Step 1: Play through the game, gathering all collectibles and opening all flowers

Play through all eight levels (Level 9 is a cutscene), gathering as many collectibles as possible. Don't worry if you miss any; as the game has level select and none of the levels are particularly long. Each stage has three stars and four puzzle pieces to collect (you automatically get the fourth star either for gathering all stars or all collectibles; I'm not sure which). Most of the levels will also have a Toad to speak to – he counts as a collectible, as he often will provide you with one of the level's puzzle pieces. In terms of the flowers, as far as I've been able to tell, there is only one optional flower (in Level 2), so don't stress that too much.

To finish Level 7, you will want to get pummelled by the Black Fish but the game doesn't make this obvious.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Went the Distance (B)

Papa Fish (B)

Sink or Swim (B)

Until the End (B)

...and if you got all the collectibles:

In Full Bloom (S)

Super Star (S)

I remember (B)

Ribbit (B)

Step 2: Replay Level 7

Unless you were remarkably fast your first time through Level 7, you likely unlocked the trophy for completing the level in a longer amount of time. Reload the level and speed through it, ignoring all collectibles. Once you reach the third part of the stage, make sure to swim all the way to the right side of the area for a bit for a miscellaneous trophy.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Super Splash (B)

The Edge (B)

Step 3: Cleanup

You may have unlocked some or all of the game's miscellaneous trophies during your initial playthrough, especially if you kept an eye on the trophy list while playing. If you didn't, then now is the time to clean those up via stage select. See each trophy for recommended unlocking locations.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Scales in all colors (B)

Fast as Lightning (B)

Stalker (B)

Fish Bait (B)

Ouch (B)

Flashy (B)

Sparky (B)

Like a Fish in the Water (B)

Step 4: Killing time

Koi's time trophy requires you to be actively in the game – not the pause menu, not the main menu – for 24 hours but fortunately this is cumulative so you don't have to do it in one go. To get this ASAP, load up any level, make sure that you turn off any power saving settings you may have active (e.g. for the console and controller) and plug the controller into the system so you don't accidentally get logged out.

This trophy is a bit finicky to unlock as some players have reported the trophy unlocking with no trouble at the 24 hour mark and others have reported that the level needed to be finished before the trophy unlocked. Whichever way it happens for you, keep in mind that the game does not save until you finish whatever level you're on so make sure to finish the level before turning off your system.

By the end of this step, you will have unlocked:

On Time's Side (B)

Congratulations on your new 100%!

Open all the flowers in the game

As far as I've been able to tell, the only non-mandatory flower is the one in the bottom left corner of the final screen of Level 2 (the screen with Old Toad). The fish that opens it is in the top right corner. The fish, flower and Old Toad will not appear until after you have dealt with the Black Fish and the opening to the stage's exit becomes unblocked.

In Level 8, make judicious use of the :r1: button to point out where all the fish and flowers are, as this is a huge open area without a lot of landmarks to help guide you.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/8b2.jpg Super Star (S)

Collect all the Stars in the game

Every level (except Level 9) has three stars to collect. You will receive a fourth (a gold star) either when you get all the collectibles in the level or just the stars (I'm not sure which). If you need to pick one up via level select, you will need to finish the level before the star will save to your game.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/586.jpg I remember (B)

Collect all the Puzzle Pieces in the game

Every level (except Level 9) has four puzzle pieces to collect. Old Toad will often (but not always) provide one of them. If you need to pick one up via level select, you will need to finish the level before the puzzle piece will save to your game.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/f01.jpg Scales in all colors (B)

Unlock all the Skins

The skins are tied to fulfilling about a third of the game's trophy list. You will unlock this trophy once you have unlocked:

  • Fish Bait
  • The Edge
  • Ribbit
  • Papa Fish
  • Until the End
  • Super Splash
  • In Full Bloom
  • Super Star

My last trophy from that list was Super Star but it didn't unlock so I reloaded Level 9 from Level Select screen and the trophy popped instantly.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/d30.jpg Until the End (B)

Complete every level

You will unlock this trophy after finishing Level 8, since Level 9 is just a cutscene that leads to the credits.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/7d9.jpg Fast as Lightning (B)

Dodge 20 attacks of the Black Fish

Whenever you swim in front of the Black Fish, its eyes will turn red and it will try to ram you. You need to provoke it to attack, then swim out of the way. The first Black Fish in Level 5 is great for this, as you can provoke it near the top right corner and quickly swim left. Alternately, you can do this in the third part of Level 7, in the large open area with multiple Black Fish.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/413.jpg The Edge (B)

Reach the frontier of the 3rd part of Level 7

After the end level summary of Level 7, you will be put into a large open area with a bunch of white fish and Black Fish swimming diagonally. Swim all the way to the right until your Koi goes off the edge of the screen, then swim around in that edge area a bit until the trophy unlocks.

To finish Level 7, keep getting pummelled by the Black Fish until a cutscene starts.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/31c.jpg Stalker (B)

Remain undiscovered by the Black Fish in Levels 2 and 5

Self-explanatory. You have plenty of space to manoeuvrer in Level 2 but in Level 5, stick to walls/ceilings/floors as much as possible. You can skirt the edge of its vision and be okay, just don't swim directly into its line-of-sight. The toughest part is getting out of the small opening where the white fish is so swim fast but swim past the Black Fish as soon as its tail passes the opening where you are.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/699.jpg Fish Bait (B)

Suffer 20 attacks by the Black Fish

The Black Fish is found in most of the levels but there is a good enclosed space at the beginning of Level 5. Swim into its sight, let its eyes turn red and ram into you. It will not attack you again until your Koi becomes un-stunned (turns from grey back to orange).

Alternately you can do this in the third part of Level 7, in the big open area with multiple Black Fish but keep in mind that being attacked by the Black Fish is how you actually finish that part of the level and will end well before 20 attacks.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/3df.jpg Super Splash (B)

Complete the upstream part of Level 7 in under 3 minutes

Self-explanatory. I recommend unlocking Sink or Swim first, then immediately reloading the level and playing through again for this one. Ignore all collectibles but make good use of the rocks whenever the stream strengthens. Remember that small fish will come to you if they enter the circle around your Koi; you do not need to touch them to get them to follow. Also, they do not actually have to be on the screen in order to open the flowers so use this to your advantage if the current sweeps one of them away.

The trophy will unlock at the Level 7 summary screen but you don't have to worry about the big open area after it.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/62d.jpg Sink or Swim (B)

Complete the upstream part of Level 7 in over 3 minutes

Self-explanatory. You will likely unlock this without even trying during your first playthrough of Level 7, especially if you're going for all the collectibles on that run. This does not include the big open area after the Level 7 summary screen.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/600.jpg Papa Fish (B)

Lead more than 50 small fish in total

This will come naturally over the course of the game.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/831.jpg Ouch (B)

Bump into an obstacle 200 times

An obstacle is literally anything that isn't a lilly pad or a flower: enemies, environmental objects, walls, ceilings, ground etc. This will likely come naturally during your playthrough but if not, it's easily farmed just about anywhere.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/d7a.jpg Went the Distance (B)

Total distance traveled over 8000 meters

This will come naturally over the course of the game.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/669.jpg On Time's Side (B)

Total play time is 24 hours

This one is a bit finicky to unlock. You need to be actively in the game – not the main menu, not on pause – for 24 hours. Whatever time you have built up does not actually save to your game until you finish whatever level you're on. There are conflicting reports as to whether the trophy will simply unlock once you hit the 24 hour mark or if the level needs to be completed first.

Make sure that you turn off any power saving settings you may have on your PS4 (e.g. for the console and controller) and plug the controller into the system so you don't accidentally get logged out.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/ec6.jpg Flashy (B)

Make an opened flower light up 30 times

After opening a flower, it will flash every time you swim under it. Simply do this 30 times to unlock this trophy but it doesn't have to be the same flower.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/d68.jpg Sparky (B)

Get hit by sparks 5 times

You will find the sparks midway through Level 6 but unlike the Black Fish, if you hit even the edge of the area it covers, you will get hurt so wait until the spark goes out before crossing.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/7dc.jpg Like a Fish in the Water (B)

Avoid being hit by a single spark in Level 6

This one can be a little frustrating, because the sparks don't always seem to have the same amount of time off. Your best bet is to stick as close to the ceiling as possible but you should be able to swim past the first and third spark, even if they're active and often the second (though that spark is a little touchy).

You will have to pass the sparks with the fish you pick up. The sparks can also hit the fish and often will as the fish has a tendency to swim directly into the sparks but it does not negate the trophy. Pay close attention to your own Koi, as the controller will vibrate no matter which fish is electrocuted – the one that is actually hit will be a skeleton and turn grey for a bit.

The trophy will not unlock until you finish the level.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/4499/238.jpg Ribbit (B)(H)

Don't miss a single encounter with Old Toad

Old Toad is found in Chapters 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7. When you find him, swim up to him and press :circle: to talk to him. He will often (but not always) give you one of the puzzle piece collectibles so he's definitely a guy you want to find. He's often directly in your path.

The trophy will not unlock until you finish the final level in which you spoke to him.

I can confirm that (B) On Time's Side doesn't require you to finish the level for it to pop. I don't know if it to save play time requires you to finish the level though. It popped today while PS4 was idle and I was at work.

It popped for me when I was idling as well, but a few people on PSNP have said they needed to finish the level for it to pop, so I put the info in there just in case.

But you definitely need to finish a level to save collectible progress, so I assume you'd need to do so to bank time as well.

If you are here because the trophies for completing the game / collect all stars / collect all puzzle pieces...

On Level 8, there are two separate exits. There is a white black hole type exit in the middle of some rocks after opening all the flowers with the white fish. There is also an exit to the upper right after opening all the colored flowers. I had to exit through the top right for it to pop all the trophies.

EDIT: Note that I played this on Vita

What is considered a bump? I already use the analog stick to move from one rock to another 200x times and the trophy ouch just doesn't pop

Edit: I deleted the save and kept bumping at the first stone on level 2 and the trophy popped after 100 and some bumps

😕
