Mui Mui Crane Tip

Hey all,

Just got the platinum trophy for LocoRoco earlier, and I discovered something useful during the crane mini game that should make it much easier to get 20 of each type of LocoRoco.

In short, flicking the DS4 upwards (motion control) causes the LocoRoco to flick up into the air. This is useful for dislodging any from the bottom of a pile, but also super effective in helping to grab and, most importantly, maintain a hold on some of the harder shapes. Press the trackpad to enable/disable motion controls.

Basically, as the crane lowers to grab something, keep spamming the upwards flick motion on the DS4. This makes it extremely likely that the grabber will prioritise the LocoRoco over other prizes. Keep spamming the move as the crane delivers your prize to the hatch on the left and it makes it almost impossible for the grabber to drop the LocoRoco (including the more slippery shapes).

As an added bonus, sometimes the flick motion can help capture LocoRoco without even using the crane!

Bonus Tip: Prioritise larger LocoRoco - the larger they are, the more they're worth. The largest ones I caught equated to 3 LocoRoco towards my target.

Bonus Tip 2: Don't worry about tracking what you've caught - once you have enough of any one type, the game tells you that you have enough of that colour and rewards you with 300 pickories instead.

Happy grabbing.

I don't really know what you mean, flicking the DS4 does nothing for me. All I know is that the crane WILL NOT pick up the longer, slender LocoRoco. It just won't.

I can get my crane around them but they slip out as the crane is pulling up. So far I've been able to bank a blue and a yellow LocoRoco, both circle-shaped, in 50+ attempts. This mini game is borderline broken!

Yeah I'm going to have to agree on this. That would be a feature that wouldn't have been in the original PSP game since the PSP didn't have motion control. In this remaster I do not believe they added any new functionality.

Makes sense, I haven't played the original in a while but I'd assume they wouldn't add any new functionality.

But they need to do SOMETHING, because this is bloody ridiculous. The crane just drops the LocoRoco right out and can't seem to grip them properly. The main game is fun but this minigame is infuriating.

The best way I can describe it is imagine your DS4 is lying flat on a surface and then moves straight upwards. Doing that with your hands in a flick motion creates the desired effect.

Have you tried pressing the track pad? That enables/disables motion control, so maybe that's the issue?

If/when you do get it working, mashing the flick motion keeps the long, slender LocoRoco in the jaws of the crane so that you can capture them. Hope it helps.

Motion control is definitely in the main game - you can tilt the DS4 to move instead of pressing L1 or R1. Pressing the track pad enables/disables this.

That seems like a crucial piece of information to leave out of your first post :p

But yes, this works. Position the crane over a LocoRoco, even the longer, slender ones. When the arms of the crane are still 'wide', about to wrap round the LocoRoco, keep moving your DS4 upwards and downwards to spam the jump move and the LocoRoco should stay in the crane.

You'll know the motion controls are enabled when you feel a small vibration after pressing the touchpad.

Sometimes a LocoRoco will jump into the target area without even being caught by the crane which is nice.

It's still an annoying trophy and not as easy as it should be but with a little patience, it's fine. Make sure you quit and restart the minigame when you've captured all the LocoRoco because no more will spawn in.
