Introduction

Welcome to RIGS: Mechanized Combat League, PlayStation VR’s premium launch title and possibly the first triple-A virtual reality game. Developed by the late Guerrilla Cambridge, RIGS is an intense all-action sport that involved players piloting mechs known as RIGs. As for trophies, we have a fairly cruisy list, with any difficulties being easily exploited. You’ll be dipping your toes into online modes, but mainly you’ll be spending your time in offline season.

As per usual with VR games, take frequent breaks for ten minutes every hour or so. This game in particular can be very strenuous on the inner ear given its fast and vapid gameplay. Additionally, keep in mind that trophy notifications don’t exist for VR games and the trophy unlock noise is quite quiet in this mode, so don’t be alarmed if you met the requirements to no apparent result; press :ps: and view your trophies manually to confirm that you’ve unlocked it.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Tutorial.

RIGS has an extensive tutorial, which automatically begins when you start the game. Finish this for your first trophy. Immediately after the tutorial, you’ll be instructed to unlock your first RIG, which also yields a trophy. Immediately after that, you can customise your pilot’s outfit, which indeed also unlocks a trophy.

(B)Suit Up

Step 2: Online.

Next, hop online and start winning games. You’ll need to win one game in 1 VS 1 Matchmade mode, as well as play a highly variable amount of games in Division Matchmade mode to reach Division 5.

Step 3: Seasons.

"Seasons" is where you will spend most of your platinum time. You will need to finish first the three leagues from 3 to 1, finish first in the tournaments for all three gametypes, and be the top scoring player for one of the leagues. This is all easier than it sounds thanks to some handy exploits. See Ace, We Are the Champions and Takedown King for those exploits.

Also during this step, you’ll most likely earn every gameplay-related miscellaneous trophy there is to earn without any sort of effort. The only trophy you may have to actually remember to do in the moment is Teamwork, so see that for more info.

Step 4: Trials.

Trials are short challenges, ranging from shooting targets to running timed obstacle courses in your RIG. There are forty of them and they’re all easy as heck. You should have no problems completing these after getting the hang of controls earlier.

(B)Showing Off

(G)Exhibitionist

Step 5: Cleanup.

Finally, if you need any more followers for Superstar, you should only need at most one or two games. This is also the time to buy any remaining RIGs you may have not unlocked. Also, if you have any miscellaneous gameplay-related trophies that need unlocking, you can clean them up here, but I would frankly be amazed if you did not have all of them by now.

Obtain all Trophies

This trophy, like other platinum trophies, is unlocked by earning every other trophy in the game.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/5e9.jpg We Are the Champions (G)

Be the Champion in League 1

In offline seasons, there are three leagues for you to complete. You start in League 3, the easiest, facing largely one-star pilots. League 2 features largely two-star pilots. League 1 appropriately features the hardest difficulty three-star pilots. Each league is comprised of up to ten games in varying gametypes. Simply win more games than any other team for each corresponding league trophy.

A key part of winning is in hiring pilots to suit the job. A competent player is higher in skill than a three star AI opponent, so hire your pilots appropriately. Also, there are certain RIG classes that are more strongly suited for specific gametypes, so see (S)Takedown King for the loadouts you should be using.

Even with hiring three-star pilots, League 1 can be very difficult to win games in. A hilarious exploit exists, however, in that you can press :options: at any time in an offline game that you’re losing, then quit the game, and it won’t count at all towards your league record. So if you’re down on points or your team composition isn’t working like you thought it would, just quit back out to the menu, adjust your team and try again until you win.

The trophies will unlock as soon as the clock runs out at the very last game of that season.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/7b0.jpg Superstar (G)

Become an A-list celebrity

Celebrity lists are based on follower counts. Winning games, being the MVP of a match and completing sponsorships nets you followers.

You’ll reach the A-list when you have fifty million followers. This is a lower limit that it sounds since the game likes to throw hundreds of thousands of followers per won match in later leagues. You likely won’t have to try to get this trophy normally. Win as many games as possible and you should get enough to earn this trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/743.jpg Connoisseur (G)

Purchase all RIGs

There are 24 RIGs in the game to purchase, which range from around 25 000 credits to 40 000 credits each. Winning games will yield credits, but remember that your AI teammates take a cut of each match. As two three-star teammates can take up to 94% of your credit cut for each match, be sure to only hire pilots of the rating that you need to win games, otherwise you won’t earn enough credits per match to buy RIGs.

You do not need any of the more expensive, post-launch APX RIGs in order to earn this trophy. Simply unlock all 24 of the base RIGs to earn the trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/04d.jpg Going Up (S)

Be the Champion in League 2

See We Are the Champions.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/8b1.jpg Exhibitionist (G)

Complete every Trials challenge

Easier than it sounds: there are forty Trials challenges in the base game. You do not have to earn a certain level of medal for any of the Trials challenges; simply earning bronze for each one is enough. Additionally, you do not need to complete any weekly challenges or complete the free Zurich DLC Trials for this trophy.

Personally, for every Trial that requires you to shoot targets, I would recommend picking a RIG with a weapon that fires in a constant stream, like a Heavy Machine Gun or a Beam. This way you can keep up a constant fire instead of losing time on missed targets.

For Trials that require you to destroy enemy RIGs, I liked to use the Vampire RIG whenever possible. The Vampire RIG features an ability wherein its health recharges completely whenever you destroy and enemy RIG, which is vital for staying alive.

The trophy will unlock as soon as the fortieth Trial is completed.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/564.jpg Double Down (G)

Win both the tournament and league in same League season

This trophy unlocks when your team both wins the most games for a league, and the gametype tournament. For example, if the tournament is for PowerSlam in League 3, then you will earn this trophy along with Power Play and Big Shot assuming you’re winning as many games as possible.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/bfe.jpg All-Rounder (S)

Win a match with every RIG class

There are four RIG classes: Sentinel, Mirage, Hunter and Tempest. Select one of these from Showroom in the main menu and complete a game with it. The trophy will unlock once you’ve won a game with all four.

The DLC APX RIGs do not count toward this trophy, so don’t worry about unlocking them specifically for this.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/397.jpg Takedown King (S)

Win the Team Takedown tournament

When beginning a league season, you will also be given the opportunity to win a tournament with one of three gametypes, starting with PowerSlam, then Endzone, and finally Team Takedown. Assuming you win the league for every season, then each of those gametypes will have a tournament in League 3, 2 and 1 respectively.

Winning these tournaments requires good pilots with the appropriate RIG abilities. For each gametype, I used these team compositions:

PowerSlam: Vampire, Medic, Carapace: The Vampire RIG’s health recharges with every kill; the Carapace RIG has a shield on the back that blocks incoming fire; and the Medic heals teammates. These abilities make for keen survival abilities in this gametype, which will be necessary for gaining and holding onto the Overdrive ability.

Team Takedown: Vampire, Vampire, Vampire: In Team Takedown, as destroying other RIGs is the objective; you and your AI teammates won’t have time to recharge health. With three Vampire RIGs, your health will reset to 100% for every kill, allowing your team to keep the pressure on your opponents.

Endzone: Thief, Thief, Thief: The Thief ability allows you to take the Endzone ball from afar by shooting at it. This allows you and your teammates to put as much distance between you and the enemy as possible, so that you can safely run the ball into the goal.

As with We Are the Champions in that you can press :options: at any time in an offline game that you’re losing, then quit the game, and it won’t count at all towards your tournament record. So if you’re down on points or your team composition isn’t working like you thought it would, just back out to the menu by quitting, adjust your team and try again until you win. This is essential in tournaments as a loss means an elimination from further contention in that tournament.

The trophies will unlock as soon as their respective tournaments are completed.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/133.jpg Bowl Winner (S)

Win the Endzone tournament

See Takedown King.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/4b9.jpg Teamwork (B)

Perform a Touchdown Assist in Endzone

In Endzone, you can pass the ball to another player or AI teammate using :l3:. If they then score a goal with that ball shortly after you pass it, you will be awarded with a Touchdown Assist. This is possibly the only miscellaneous trophy you may have to go out of your way for as it’s slightly situational. It requires that a teammate be near the Endzone, but teammates tend not to advance too close to it if they don’t have the ball. The best strategy I can recommend is to move across the map with your teammates and pass when you all get close, so that you aren’t outmatched and overrun by opponents.

The trophy will unlock as soon as the Touchdown Assist is made.

Become the Top Gun

The Top Gun award is given to you if you earn more points than any AI player throughout a league season. This is actually fairly easy early on, and as a result I highly, highly recommend that you attempt this trophy during League 3 as it can be nearly impossible to earn this in League 1. In League 3 you are likely to earn this trophy if you play as best as you can throughout the season and win as many games as possible.

The only complication you should face in League 3 is your own AI teammates, who will also appear on the Top Gun board if you win games with them. You can exploit the hiring system by frequently switching pilots, guaranteeing that no one pilot will be able to play enough games to be in the running for the Top Gun award.

The trophy will unlock as soon as the last game of the season ends and you have met the requirements for the Top Gun award.

Be promoted from Division 6

(Online)

In online Divisions mode, players ascend in their division by earning a certain amount of points, which increases as the division is higher. These points are earned by winning matches, and to a lesser extent player performance. Players begin in Division 10, with a very low amount of points being required to advance to the next division. The trophy list for RIGS only requires players reach Division 5, which should only take the minimum of ten games per division, for a total of fifty. The trophy will unlock at the end of the game in which you advanced past Division 6.

This trophy will unlock as soon as you finish a single match in RIGS’s offline seasons mode.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/3d4.jpg Most Valuable (B)

Be the MVP in a match

The MVP award requires that you score the most points in a match. For Team Takedown, this equates to kills, whereas for Endzone and PowerSlam, this is essentially the amount of goals that you score. The MVP award is very easy to earn in League 3, just play your best and score the most points you can in a match.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/a0e.jpg A Word From Our Sponsor (B)

Complete your first sponsorship

In the main menu, navigate to RIGS HQ using :l1: or :r1:. Here, select Sponsors. In this menu, you will be able to select a range of online and offline challenges that yield customisation items, followers or credits. Offline challenges can be completed online and vice versa. The earliest of these sponsorships are very easy, requiring that you only need to get a certain amount of kills or scores in certain game modes. The trophy will unlock at the end of a game in which you completed your first sponsorship.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/072.jpg Destruction Derby (B)

Win a Team Takedown match

Simply win one match of Team Takedown. Team Takedown is essentially a deathmatch mode; the team with the most takedowns wins.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/89c.jpg Denial Ain't a River in Egypt (B)

Perform a defensive takedown in Endzone

A defensive takedown in Endzone is when you destroy an enemy RIG that is holding the ball, and is close to your endzone. You will get plenty of these playing naturally, so don’t even worry about trying to get it.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/7f9.jpg Goooooooooooal! (B)

Score a goal in PowerSlam

In PowerSlam, collect the yellow orbs or destroy other RIGs to enter Overdrive mode. This mode is signified by the yellow chevrons icon in the lower right hand corner of the HUD. After entering Overdrive, jump into the hoop in the centre of the map to score. The trophy will unlock as soon as you do.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/8f4.jpg In The Zone (B)

Score a touchdown in Endzone

Gain possession of the ball and run it into the enemy’s goal in Endzone. It’s easy to get this trophy by picking a Thief class RIG and taking the ball as soon as you see it, by shooting at it. Also, if an AI teammate has the ball and you are closer to the endzone than they are, they will more than likely toss it to you for you to score.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/5105/bb8.jpg Mano a Mano (B)

Win a 1 vs 1 matchmade match

(Online)

In the online menu, you can select to "matchmake" with another lone player online. You will be accompanied by two AI RIGs, so hire the best ones you can and take to multiplayer. It shouldn’t be too difficult to earn this trophy with competent AI teammates; I got it on the first attempt.

Win a match in every arena

There are four arenas that contribute to this trophy: Nevada, Macau, Rio and Dubai. Simply play a game on each one of these maps and the trophy will unlock as soon as the last game ends.

The lone DLC map, Zurich, does not count toward this trophy.

Thanks, I'll try it out. In the meantime I've come up with my own team compositions that seem to work pretty well. I'll post them when I have a chance to double check them in case anyone else is interested.

Edit: ok, here are the specific rigs I use:

Me: Painkiller (engineer mirage) for team takedown or power slam; Killswitch (thief mirage) for end zone

Team mate 1: Linsangan/Injury Time (3-star nuke mirage) for all modes

Team mate 2: Massinga/El Diablo (3-star engineer sentinel) for team takedown or power slam; Agwanda/Painkiller (3-star engineer mirage) for end zone

It isn't cheap, so forget about earning credits, but it got me thru league 2 and the team takedown tournament pretty easily. I'll report back once I plat the game.

Wow, were you finding online players as recently as a month ago or did you do all the online stuff ages ago and just clean up SP?

It's dead online when I try...

Really? What a shame. Loved the game, and as I'm getting back into VR, that was one of the games I wanted to revisit.

I had no trouble finding players back in mid-March, but I have noticed that a lot of the people I added to my friends list have moved on.

what happens if im in a higher league such as league 1 and i need to get the 'Top Ace" trophy? does changing team drop me down to league 3?

Pretty sure it resets you, so yeah, do that when you need Top Ace.

Well, since this game's currently free on PS+, it's a good game to get used to VR. I finished the tutorial and lost my first offline match like 16-42! Yeah, it's generally not my genre, I ain't aiming for platinum either, still I'll play it from time to time to get my VR legs. Thus I'll certainly be using the guide, maybe I'll get good with the game one day...!

I too got crushed in my first match. Probably should have tried my rig before buying it. I would caution against using RIGS as a get used to VR game though. I've played several VR games (even written a few guides) and this is easily the one giving me the most issues, ties my stomach up in knots. For new VR users I would suggest starting with something else, Rush of Blood and Batman Arkham VR or one of the many digital only games would be a good way to get your legs, then move to RIGS.

So as far as I can tell each division requires you to play 10 matches and you get elevated if you get enough points. Is there something I'm missing because the guides suggests you only need 10 matches total to my reading.

The information for the Breaking Ranks trophy is not accurate. To get promoted from division 6 you need to play at least 50 online games while achieving enough to get promoted every ten games.

I did mean ten games per division, yes. I've reworded it to clarify that.

Is anyone having trouble with the Trials trophy popping? I've done all 50 plus the series challenges and nothing. Do I really have to get platinum? Any thoughts?

Edit: Apparently this was a known glitch that was supposedly fixed as part of update 1.04. Not finding anything about how to correct it should it still happen. For those curious I should be playing on the current version since I did all of the online trophies in the last week as well.

Edit edit: trophy popped when I signed into RIGS today, didn't do anything further to get it.

I did post this in the boosting thread a few days ago. Probably should have posted it here. I did think that could have been the case, but it was worded in a way that made me and apparently everyone think you had to play about 10 online games....not 10 per division.

Is anyone having trouble with the Trials trophy popping? I've done all 50 plus the series challenges and nothing. Do I really have to get platinum? Any thoughts?

Idk dude, I had no issue with it....I think you only have to do 40, not 50 (the last area Zurich is update/patch DLC, I believe). I didn't do the series at all....as far as I can tell you just have to play them and get at least bronze in each one (which means just finishing some of them). If you look on each map on the trials section, they should say 10/10 if you did them all...if you have, idk what to tell you.

I DO HAVE A QUESTION THOUGH: I was playing offline and finished a league but was unaware of the exploits and how the offline works and I lost the tournament. How do I go back and play that tournament again? Am I out of luck or do I just switch teams or how does this work? I probably should have looked ahead, but I didn't expect the difficulty spike on the tournament and it was too late to select a new rig (again, wasn't aware of exploit)....can anyone shed any light? It automatically put me in league 2 now, so am i forever locked from the trophy? I got the Top Gun award, so I thought I had no missable trophies to worry about....

EDIT: I found the answer, when you change teams the offline progress is reset. It warns you before you do it. I assumed this might be the case, but didn't know for sure. Please update this info in the guide, as it may be helpful for others...I apologize if you had it there and I've missed it...
