Introduction:

Adventures of Mana is a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure on the classic Game Boy. It is also the first of the Mana series of games by Square Enix. The game plays from a top down perspective on a grid like map, not unlike the original Legend of Zelda. You control a main character, whom you can name.

You can equip a weapon, spells and items to use in combat. You can also equip a shield, helm and armor to boost your defensive abilities. Some items you find in dungeons, others are bought in towns, some are earned through story events. Some weapons, such as the sickle, have special uses. Others are just intended to damage. However, some weapons do not work on every enemy while some weapons are stronger on certain types of enemies. In most cases, you can get by with your weapon of choice and the fire spell for enemies you are unable to damage with your weapon.

The game also has an item system. You can gain items from stores in town or in chests dropped from enemies. You may keep up to 16 item slots in your inventory, each of which can have stackable items (such as multiple keys in one slot) at which point you will no longer be able to pick up items. Most of the items in the game are useless once you get spells. Keep a healthy stock of keys, mattocks (until later in the game when you get the Morningstar) and hi-ethers to replenish your MP. Keeping a few potions handy will help as well.

I recommend a total of at least 12 keys and mattocks each, which will take up a total of 6 inventory spaces. Also, some items can be picked up and sold at a store for coin.

There is a charge bar that you will notice at the bottom of the screen. When it gets full, your character can perform a stronger attack. For example: If the sword is equipped, you can either do a spinning attack by releasing the analog stick or a two-directional slash attack in the direction of tilt on the analog stick.

As you kill monsters, you will gain experience. Each time you level up, you will be given the option of selecting 1 of 4 training regimens. It is recommended that you only use the Warrior and Mage regimens, switching between the two every time you level up.

Understanding the Guide

There are many times in the Guide I will be referring to collectibles. These tags will identify how they are acquired.

[A] – Ally

– Shop

[C] – Assist Character Shop

[T] – Treasure Chest

[D] – Monster Treasure Chest Drop

[E] – Event

Recommended Equipment for Battle

Weapon

Your weapon of choice (I prefer the sword for the charge abilities)

Item selection

Heal spell - For status effect curation

Cure spell - For HP restoration

Fire spell – For damaging enemies immune to weapons.

Morningstar/mattock/key depending on your needs.

Puzzle Solutions

Tactile Switch

Just press the switch but sometimes there is more than one and they need to be pressed in a certain order.

Pressure Switch

Requires a constant pressure to open the door. Usually something like a treasure chest has to hold it down.

Snow Man Switch

Freeze an enemy and move the snowman onto the switch. If you kill all enemies in the room, you may need to do some backtracking to get enemies to respawn but only certain enemies can be frozen so make sure the correct ones are present by leaving the room and returning to respawn enemies.

Breakable Wall

Use Mattocks or the Morning Star.

Look for a small crack. Sometimes hard to see.

Weapon obstacles

Sickles will cut weeds

Axes knock down trees

Flails are used to cross water ways using posts

The Morningstar will break rocks and walls

Flare is needed to open the route to the Buried Ruins.

Allies

Over the course of the game, you will get several assistant/partner characters. Each have a unique ability that can be used by selecting the speech button in the upper right corner of the touch screen. Most of them will also fight with you, though sometimes they get in your way more than help.

Heroine [A] – Heals you but also grants some Auto Regen with each heal.

Mysterious Traveler [A] – Magic combat assistance, advice

Bogard [A] – Gives advice

Watts [A] – Shop

Chocobo [A] – Allows world map travel, jumping bridges and later traveling water.

Amanda [A] – Heals status effect

Lester [A] – BGM Change

Marcy [A] – Restores your MP

Tips and Tricks

  • If you find yourself low on MP or HP, you do not have to use healing items. If you have not reached level 99, your HP and MP will be restored when you level up.
  • When the Heroine is your partner, use her support to keep your health at max. Similarly, when Marcy is your partner, keep your MP up to heal yourself freely.
  • If you're in a dungeon with no escape and you're stuck, Skeletons will drop Keys and Slimes will drop Mattocks.
  • If you see a post that you can travel to with the chain rod, remember that if the chain rod is fully charged it will go farther. This is how you cross larger gaps.
  • When changing rooms, be weary of moving too far as enemies spawn after you enter the room and can often spawn on top of you if you move in too far.
  • Once you get the heal spell, it makes sense to equip it to your hot bar. Especially for boss battles when you want to heal quickly. Be careful with your charge attacks as they take time to warm up and you can be cancelled out of them if you are hit. The same is true for magic, which also means you lose MP with no benefit if your hit and cancelled out.
  • Refrain from using Morningstar in boss battles, if you don’t need it. It has a slow windup which might cause you problems.
  • There are two Ish Sundries Item shops: 1 in Ish proper and 1 west of Ish, near Dime Tower.

Warning: Point of No Return

Once you clear Dime Tower, you will no longer be able to return to the world map to collect any remaining collectibles.

Obtain 100,000 gold

While it sounds obtuse, this trophy should be easy to pick up during the natural flow of the game. This trophy is cumulative, thus you don't need to have 100,000 gold in your purse at once.

Obtain Level 99

MISSABLE

If your anything like me, you will be Level 50 or so by the time you get to the end of the game. Getting to level 99 will require some grinding. You can do this in the last dungeon but it's recommended to either do it on the main world map before progressing to the point of no return or it can be done easily by killing Elephants in the Temple of Mana. There are two screens just before the last boss that have Elephants on them. You can go back and forth between the two, and if you leave one alive in the room, when you re-enter the room the enemies will respawn. If you kill all the elephants, you can just backtrack to the previous floor or move forward just past the elephants and then go back. The enemies will respawn at that point. If you kill the elephants then leave the room before the elephant’s death animation, they will respawn. Otherwise, you will have to leave the entire area to get the elephants to respawn.

As you kill monsters, you will gain experience. Each time you level up, you will be given the option of selecting 1 of 4 training regimens. It is recommended that you only use the Warrior and Mage regimens, switching between the two every time you level up. If you follow this method from the very beginning, you will get 99 in all four stats.

Here are the stat boosts for each level you can gain, by regimen:

Warrior: VIT +1, STR + 2, INT +0, MND +1

Monk: VIT +2, STR +1, INT +0, MND +1

Mage: VIT +1, STR + 0, INT +2, MND +1

Sage: VIT +1, STR + 0, INT +1, MND +2

Abbreviated version:

Level up, select Warrior

Level up, select Mage

Level up, select Warrior

Level up, select Mage

Rinse and repeat etc.

If you find yourself in the 80's/90's and your maths shows you will be shy a few levels, just make a new save file and focus on your stats for one class. Now load your old save file and level up your other class as you don't need to have a 99 stat in all 4 classes at once to earn the Platinum.

Just use the sword charge moves to attack him when he phases in but use your Heroine's support ability to keep your health at max. Use Excalibur for best results. Should be extremely easy at this point.

Finish the game

Story related, can't be missed.

Once the last boss dies, the game takes control for the duration. The final cutscene is on auto-pilot but you cannot skip or speed it up so will have to wait until the credits end. Press :circle: on "The End" screen to return to the title. This trophy should pop at the end of the credits, when the game returns to the title screen.

Note: The Vita can fall asleep on you during the final cutscene and end credits so wake it back up or tap the screen to keep it active while the ending plays out.

You can do this in the last dungeon' date=' but it's recommended to do it on the main world map before progressing to the point of no return.[/quote']

What is the point of no return? There's no other mention of this in the guide. Is it before Dime Tower? Before the Tower of Mana?

I'm also at level 39 and have just raised Dime Tower. Can anyone give a vague estimate of how long the grind will be for 50-60 levels?

You really don't need to link the trophy titles like that. That adds more characters to the 10,000 limit. :p

Anyway I recommend removing your signature from each post of the guide and moving your (missable) down below the trophy description and bold them in red color text so they're easier to spot.

You're coding is a little hard for me to cut out and paste to use an as example for you because it's all over the place, but the standard example is like this:

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2315/740.jpg Helm Collector (S)

Obtain all shields

(Missable) (Collectible)

Shield List:

Bronze Shield (Default)

Iron Shield (Shop/Wendel)

Mythril Shield (Shop/Dwarf Cave [Watts])

Gold Shield (Shop/Jadd)

Diamond Shield (Shop)

Fire Shield (Shop/Ish)

Ice Shield (Shop/Northern Sea Armors)

Dragon Shield

Missing Aegis Shield as well, dropped by the elephants.

Shit, somehow that got lost in the editing. I swear I wrote that down.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Edits are done, for now. I will remove the links tomorrow, for now I need to get to bed.

Sorry, this is only the 2nd time I've attempted this :(

Does trophy progress carry over into NG+? I've missed the item dropped by Ghosts, and I can't get to any dungeon that has them in it from the world map I don't think (I have a save at just before Dime Tower) so I'm kinda stuck...

Honestly, I don't believe there IS a NG+. I didn't get a prompt for one. You don't really unlock anything upon completion.

There MAY be Ghosts in the last dungeon, but I did not compile a beastiary.

Any thoughts from anyone else?

An old guide from another site suggests Ghosts can be found at the Airship, Journey Cave, Golem Cave and Dark Castle. I can't remember if the location names changed in this version but I've already got the Item Trophy and I'm currently grinding the Elephants for the 99 Stats Trophies so I've not really been taking notice of the story, mainly because I completed this on Gameboy years ago.

I can't check the World Map to work out what the above dungeons are called as I'm in the Temple of Mana so have access to that map only.

If you can get back to any of these dungeons(obviously not the airship and I don't think you can go back to Dark/Glaive castle) using your upgraded Chocobo then you may find some Ghosts.

However I'm sure I've seen Ghosts in at least one of the later dungeons. Check the Dime Tower and Subsequent Dungeons as there are many rooms in these dungeons if you explore thoroughly.

Back your save up to PS+ just in case. I wish I could be more helpful.

Edit: Journey Cave is the one you go to after Lester clears the poisonous gas North West of Jadd(desert area), if you can go back there of course.
