Introduction

Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters was developed by Toybox Inc originally as a game on iOS that was remade for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. This title can be loosely considered a visual novel, since a large portion of the game consists of picking the correct combination of your emotions and senses to move the story forward. You play as a self-named character that joins an occult publishing company moonlighting as ghost hunters, called the "Gate Keepers". With you and your ragtag group of companions, you'll travel throughout Tokyo to rid the world of mischievous ghosts.

As far as trophies are concerned, there are several missables to look out for with at least one in nearly every episode. You'll want to activate your sixth sense at every opportunity to earn all the respective sixth sense trophies, as well as attempt miscellaneous combat trophies. The game requires a minimum of 2 playthroughs, so that you can earn all of the pictures for the Handbook for the Recently Deceased trophy. There are also two grinding trophies that will take awhile to earn, especially winning the "Hypernatural" minigame 50 times to earn the Does Anybody Want to Play Parcheesi? trophy. The other "grinding" trophy is for completing 100 exorcisms, which will not come naturally but you will make a lot of progress towards it while aiming for other trophies. There are no glitched trophies to watch out for, but He Slimed Me can be finicky to unlock as it requires the ghosts to win by killing the hunters without anyone running out of cards.

Walkthrough

Step One: First Playthrough, Sixth Sense Events, and the First Confession

In this step, you will play through the game while activating all possible sixth sense events and recruiting all possible characters. It is recommended that you complete at least 25 of your 50 Hypernatural wins in this step as well, in order to earn TP for whiteboard training towards other trophies. Play Hypernatural with either Shiga or Hikime in the group of players to gain affinity for either of them in progress towards the episode 10 photo for the Handbook for the Recently Deceased trophy, and a confession from a boy or a girl. It's also best if you pair up other players with the same gender as the either Shiga or Hikime so that your confession at the end of the game matches the person that you get the photo with in episode 10. If for some reason you get the opposite gender, it could make it more difficult to get the episode photo and the opposing gender confession on your second playthrough.

In this step you will earn:

(B)A Death Song Truth

(B)A Different Truth

(B)A Rising Truth

(B)A Winging Truth

(B)Change the World

(B)Cold as Ice

(B)Come and Play With Us

(B)You Keep Me Hang

(S)Gatekeeper OR Keymaster

(S)Sixth Sense

Step Two: Second Playthrough, Confession, and Clean Up

During this step, you will play through the game for the second time and focus on earning the missing photos for the Handbook for the Recently Deceased trophy. Play your remaining Hypernatural wins with either Shiga or Hikime, opposite of whom you did not get the episode 10 scene for in your first playthrough. Also be sure to focus on affinity for characters that have the same gender as the confession trophy you still need in this playthrough.. You'll want to also focus on earning all remaining miscellaneous trophies before the "point of no return" in episode 11. Completing the game before you earn the remaining combat trophies will cause you to have to start an additional third playthrough.

In this step you will earn:

(B)Does Anybody Want to Play Parcheesi?

(B)He Slimed Me

(B)Here's Johnny

(B)I Am Utterly Alone

A girl has just confessed to you!

:tagmissable:

Missable!

In order to earn this trophy, you must have a girl "confess" to you after the end credits of Episode 13.

Characters that count towards this trophy are as follows: Sayuri Mifune, Chizuru Fukurai, Tei Hikime, Iku Kaede, Take/Ume Kayama, and Sawako Yashio.

The character that confesses is based on companion affinity levels throughout your entire party. You can make it easier to control gained affinity with other companions by raising your "Collate" skill through training at the Whiteboard inside of the Gate Keepers Headquarters. This Collate skill increases the affinity gained with other characters. You can also increase affinity by picking favorable responses when interacting with certain characters in dialogue events. You can also increase affinity by playing Hypernatural with companions, speaking with them in your headquarters by pushing :triangle:, and selecting them as they appear on the screen. Taking characters into exorcisms and keeping them alive throughout the encounter also increases affinity.

Keep in mind that Shiga is there for every encounter, so it's much more difficult to gain affinity exclusively through combat because each victory raises Shiga's affinity as well. Be sure to keep this in mind when you're setting up Hypernatural games with companions, or training at the Whiteboard.

The trophy will unlock after the Sixth Sense event after the end credits of episode 13.

No traps? Not once? Are you nuts?

In order to earn this trophy, you must simply not place any items on the field before combat and you can not use items or abilities that set traps during combat. Before you attempt this trophy, it is highly recommended that you equip the "EMF Detector" accessory on your strongest character. The EMF Detector allows you to see the locations of ghosts within a few cells around your character. This will ensure that you can see the ghosts on the map rather then fighting completely blind.

This trophy will unlock after the Mission Cleared screen during the rewards and combat statistic pages.

Thirty traps set at once. You won't be surprised.

In order to earn this trophy, you need to earn the ability to place 30 traps. The only way to increase the amount of traps that you can place is to train your "Layout" ability at the Whiteboard inside of the Gate Keepers headquarters. Training with Sadoi has the highest effect on your Layout statistic, as well as increasing your Haggle statistic for progress towards the Busting Makes Me Feel Good trophy. You need to have a total level of 15 in order to place 30 traps.

(Image showing the Whiteboard and Layout stat in-game)

Once your layout ability is high enough, simply prepare for a battle by placing 30 or more salts, traps, or other items on the battlefield and entering combat. This trophy will unlock after the Mission Cleared screen during the rewards and combat statistic pages.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/3430/758.jpg Redrum (B)

More than 5 critical hits in one battle.

Critical hits are when you hit a ghost that is in a cell by highlighting them with the red cell, rather then the green cells, of your attack range. Note that because ghosts can move after you finish planning your attack, it is easier to trap ghosts or put them to sleep so they can't move while you set up your attacks. The hardest part of this trophy is earning your 5 critical hits and killing the main ghost before you run out of time. If you run out of time, you'll have to restart the battle to attempt to earn the trophy again.

This trophy will unlock after the Mission Cleared screen during the rewards and combat statistic pages.

Bull in a china shop you are. And near death over 20 times? I'm surprised you're still alive.

In order to earn this trophy, you must finish a battle 20 times with a money deficit, and also destroy objects on the battlefield during combat. The easiest way to earn a deficit is to place a lot of salt and traps. Because money is largely useless, it is recommended that you place as many traps as you can at all times regardless of progress towards this trophy. In order to break objects on the map, your attacks need to encompass areas that are filled with light grey squares. After your combat phase is shown, a message should show up indicting something from the environment that has been broken.

All 4 of you are near death. How did you make it?!

In order to earn this trophy, you must finish a battle where all four party members are near death. Being near death is indicated by a red name on your Navi pad, as well as a broken lens for your camera display during attack animations. It's easier to earn this trophy if the enemies are around the same level as you or if they can poison you. Poison and other status effects can only bring you down to 1 HP but they can't actually kill you. If the enemies are too weak, it'll be very difficult to have them do enough damage to you before time runs out. Pick a smaller map and set up several rows of salt where the ghost should appear. Have your entire party enter the area in a close formation, in the same area as the ghosts. When a party member reaches low health, have them leave the area. Be sure to damage the ghost enough that it is within one hit before you get too low on health yourself.

This trophy will unlock after the Mission Cleared screen during the rewards and combat statistic pages.

You've performed exorcisms all over Tokyo.

:tagmissable:

Missable!

There are 23 locations around Tokyo that you will need to complete Exorcism requests at. You will visit some of the locations while completing the story but in order to reach all of the locations, you will need to acquire a Haggle level of 18. To make this easier, the PC exorcism requests change every time that you exit to the main screen of the PC, so if you don’t get a specific location that you want or a reasonable difficulty level, simply exit the Request Screen and come back for a new list. The list below contains every location in alphabetical order, and story related locations are highlighted in blue.

Battle Locations

A hundred exorcisms? Maybe that's a little excessive?

An exorcism is when you complete a ghost battle. This trophy will not come naturally, and will have to be farmed by completing miscellaneous exorcism requests on the PC in the Gate Keepers Headquarters. In order to reach the requests page, select the PC in the Headquarters screen and push :vital: + :vitar: at the same time. You can also track your total number of exorcisms by checking the statistic on the save game screen.

You shared your love 50 times.

In order to earn every trophy related to the emotion/sense wheel, you will have to use the specific emotion/sense 50 types each in dialogue interactions. There is no need to let these trophies effect how you react to each conversation, because each trophy is obtainable with a few minutes of farming in episode 13.

In Episode 13, immediately after you have a conversation with [Girl in a Sundress], she will try to teach you how to interact with doors. As long as you don't select anger http://i.imgur.com/0dh123h.png, love http://i.imgur.com/bUdJHoY.png, or friend http://i.imgur.com/dzr9STT.png in combination with touch http://i.imgur.com/CtnTpxM.png, then you can use this door to earn each of the emotion/sense wheel trophies. For safety purposes, follow the combinations below until you earn each of the trophies.

You're always ignoring everyone. Or maybe you're a daydreamer.

This trophy can be earned each time that you have the option to interact with the "senses wheel". Simply don't pick anything and allow the dialogue to progress afterwards. The trophy will unlock just after the senses wheel disappears.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/3430/22d.jpg All Work and No Play (S)

Done in less than 5 minutes! You're either really good, or really lucky.

In order to earn this trophy, you will need to complete a battle in under 5 turns. While this trophy will likely unlock naturally as you play through the game, you can also earn it more easily by selecting a low difficulty request from the PC inside of the Gate Keepers headquarters. Kill the main ghost of any mission in less then 5 turns. Each turn is considered one minute.

This trophy will unlock after the Mission Cleared screen during the rewards and combat statistic pages.

You got all four of you out unscathed.

In order to earn this trophy, clear a battle without taking damage. It's important to note that you must have a full party of four in order to unlock this trophy. You can easily earn this trophy by accepting a low difficulty request from the PC inside of the Gate Keeper Headquarters. Place traps on ghost locations that inflict paralyze, and surround these locations with salt in order to lock the ghost in and prevent it from having any chance to attack.

Throwing items are your weapons of choice.

"Throwing items" are items that must be equipped to your character at the Locker in the Gate Keepers headquarters. It's recommended that you bring as many throwing weapons as you can of the highest damage possible because these items are limited. Accept a low difficulty request from the PC and be sure not to attack at all except with the throwing items. If you fail to kill the ghost, you can simply die or run down the clock to force a mission failure and choose to retry the mission. When you select retry, you will restart the battle as if it never happened.

Only a minute left? Cutting it a little close there.

In order to earn this trophy, you must defeat the main ghost of any battle on your last possible turn. You will likely earn this trophy naturally, but if you should need to earn it manually to unlock it, then select a low difficulty request from the PC and set salt throughout the map to trap the main ghost. When you reach the last turn, defeat the ghost. If you fail to kill the ghost, you can force a mission failure by dying or running out of turns. Select retry to play the mission again as though the failure never happened.

You faced your enemies alone, and defeated them.

In order to earn this trophy, you must enter a battle alone without any companions set to commuting. You cannot earn this during story missions, so you will need to accept a miscellaneous request from the PC. This trophy is made easier by the fact that you can accept a low difficulty request and defeat the main ghost yourself.

Fifty wins for you!

In order to earn this trophy, you need to win 50 games of Hypernatural against your companions. Hypernatural is the best way to earn fast TP and affinity, so playing is a good idea for other trophies as well. You can keep track of your wins on the player selection board when you highlight your own name.

You start each game by choosing a character. The purple circles are your life points. The blue number in the top left is base amount your card is able to move, and the red number in the top right is the base damage used to calculate your attack. Pick a player card that suits your play style and begin the game. You'll always start in the top left corner. The board terrain is random. The ghosts starting position is random in the center of the board.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Ghosts cries are only heard in the cells surrounding/touching the cell that you currently occupy.
  • A ghost cry will only contain information about a cell that neighbors the cell they're actually in unless a card is used to increase effectiveness of hearing ghost cries.
  • Ghost cries are not heard when ghosts are in "haunted house" cells unless a card is used to increase effectiveness of hearing ghost cries.
  • Ghosts can freely teleport to lake squares that aren't occupied. When this happened, the square will flash blue.
  • Most ghosts can only move one square at a time. The move after a successful attack phase, or after they've been hit. If they move to a square that's still in your range, their cries will change to indicate their new neighboring squares.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/3430/8cc.jpg He Slimed Me (B)

It's the ghost's game.

In order to earn this trophy, you will have to lose a game of Hypernatural to the Ghost player. This is fairly dependent on luck because the computer allies are really good at killing the ghosts and sometimes finding the target. The ghosts must kill all four hunters without anyone being thrown out for running out of cards. The best thing you can do is use any cards you might get to hinder other hunters. Note that this is also luck based as well.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/3430/039.jpg It's Showtime (B)

So you fight in a bra, black stockings, and high heels, eh? Kinky.

The brassiere, black stockings, and high heels, are each only be earned through the lottery drawings hosted by the Ornot 4-B shopkeeper. Each lottery ticket is earned by spending 10,000 yen at the store. You can also improve your odds of earning the first place prize in lottery by increasing your Inspect skill to level 13 or higher from the Whiteboard in the Gate Keepers headquarters.

The fastest way to earn tickets, is to complete ghost battles with a deficit. The higher difficulty ranking ghost battles allow for the opportunity to earn a higher deficit. You'll want to lay as many salts and traps as possible and play missions normally. There's no real need to visit the shop regularly, so if you wait until you've done over 15 or more ghost battles then you should return to the shop with over 50 tickets available to use. Note that if you don't receive all the items that you want, you can reload a save prior to entering the shop and try again.

The image above depicts the equipped items in their slots. It's important to note that these items must be on your main character all at the same time in order to earn the trophy. The brassiere is a head slot item, while the high heels and black stockings are labeled as accessories.

The story is what made this game enjoyable for me. It was odd and I've never played any game quite like it. That said, I'd have trouble outwardly recommending this game to anyone else. I think it's a niche experience, and if you don't enjoy the puzzles then you definitely wont enjoy the grind.

I don't know if I'd play a sequel to this game. I think the character/dialogue interactions are a bit strange and could use some work. It's hard to think of the appropriate circumstances where it's okay to smell your friend and that just be a perfectly normal thing to do.

Haha, I thought this forum may be dead enough for me to a guide, but I'm glad you 2 have done the guide as it is very very good!

Glad to see the game itself isn't too tough.

Is the combat system easy to get used to? It seems they're all like a top down strategy game but you're on a map.

Is the combat system easy to get used to? It seems they're all like a top down strategy game but you're on a map.

It's a turn-based strategy combat game on a top down map. The maps and obstacles in the map vary, but basically you're trying to attack a moving target. As long as you have the proper equipped items, you can see the ghost's possible movement area, but it can be difficult sometimes to predict where they'll go. I always tried to map my attacks over their entire movement area, and they'd sometimes still move in the one square I didn't cover.

It's okay if that just sounds like a bunch of jibberish. The game isn't hard to play. The combat isn't that complicated. The hardest part for me to grasp was how to pick the right combination of emotions and senses to respond to each inquiry that requires the wheel. You have 25 potential combinations to respond with and messing up a response could make you miss out on a character joining your group.

Overall, I think the thing that kept me interested was just my curiousity. Where will this story go? What will the next ghost look like? Why is a brassiere on my head the best head armor in the game?

Arise, old thread, arise!!

So ... major problem here.

I was using this walkthrough to complete each Sixth Sense requirement.

I just finished ch.7 and didn't get sixth sense wheel. I thought maybe I'd chosen the wrong input for the final decision, so I ran the boss battle again. Nope.

I don't have an earlier save so I can't check the beginning of ch.7. What I *did* do was check 3 other walkthroughs, that ~~~ALL~~~ say the appropriate inputs for the investigation phase are

CONTEMPLATE+SEE

*not* what this walkthrough says, which was CONTEMPLATE+HEAR

Please update, and thanks for forcing me into a third playthrough, as I won't be able to get a "confess" cutscene on my first playthrough.

Thanks for the guide!  Heads up - the option to pick up Chizuru depends on your affection with Shiga.  On my first (blind-ish) playthrough Shiga was calling my Ryu (was going for boys confession) and I had the option to pick up Chizuru.  On my second (girl's confession) he wasn't calling my Ryu and no option (just "Head to Office" - Shiga's dialogue said he had something to take care of and he'd meet up with me later).  Reloaded an earlier save, blew all my TP on Shiga plus some Hpernatural games with him and he was calling me Ryu and I had the option again.

Also - the handbook for the recently deceased trophy doesn't pop until you finish the chapter you unlock the last scene in.
