Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition – Bloody Palace Guide

Recommended Posts

I made this guide to help new players in DMC4. Bloody Palace is the hardest mode in this game. You have to beat 101 stages filled with hordes of enemies under the time limit which increases every time you defeat an enemy. You have to defeat a boss on every 20th stage and Dante is the last boss in this mode, plus you cannot use items or save your progress in this mode.

The time limit is your hardest opponent in this mode. I strongly advice that you practice defeating all bosses in Mission 19 and Mission 10 without taking alot of damage. Practice makes perfect! And remember:

"Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win".

Here is a list of enemies found on every stage in Bloody Palace:

This trophy is unlocked once you obtain all trophies above.

Clear the Bloody Palace in Turbo Mode.

At the mission select menu, go to Options menu, go to Game settings then select "On" in Turbo Mode settings before playing Bloody Palace.

Clear the Bloody Palace within 2 hours.

You can clear Bloody Palace in less than an hour using Super Dante or Super Vergil. You can unlock them by clearing all missions in DMD mode or by buying the Timer Saver DLC Pack from PSN Store.

Clear all Bloody Palace Mode stages with an S ranking.

You need to clear Bloody Palace without using a Super Character. Otherwise, you will automatically get a rank lower than S.

Defeat Dante in the Bloody Palace without taking any damage.

Please refer to the video below on how to obtain this trophy.

Here is my rating of every character according to ease of use.

Easy:

Vergil - A great offensive character. His "damage per second" is really good. He can kill bosses really fast once you master his playstyle.

Lady - Another great offensive character. Her Kalina Ann is a boss killer but takes too long to charge. She lacks regenerative ability to heal herself. And she doesn't have a Super Costume.

Normal:

Nero - His Buster move is very useful against enemies. His charge shot Lv 3 can stun bosses easily. He can activate DT for temporary invulnerability. Simplest character to master.

Hard:

Dante - A well balanced character but very complicated to master. He has Trickster style for evasion. Swordmaster for devastating combos. Gunslinger and Darkslayer for crowd control. And Royal Guard for temporary invulnerability.

Very Hard:

Trish - Simple version of Dante. Easy to learn but lacks tools for evasion, crowd control and temporary invulnerability. And she doesn't have a Super Costume.

If you're having trouble fighting bosses, you can refer to my DMC 4: SE boss guide below. All movesets for every character in this game are also written in this guide: LINK

NOTE: I'm not really good in DMC games but I did my best in this guide to help people who are having trouble with Bloody Palace

Strategy against Dante:

1. Always lure him to do a Stinger by performing a Snatch (hold :r1: then press :circle:), then roll to the left/right (hold :r1: and press left/right on the :ls: + :cross:) and Snatch him again.

2. Slash (press :triangle:) him 3 times.

3. Snatch him.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for 4 times.

5. Rinse and repeat.

Strategy vs Credo:

1. Lure him to do a Helm Breaker.

2. Then divekick (press :triangle: in mid-air) towards him.

3. Attack him with melee combos then shoot him with a Pandora rocket (press :square:).

4. Rinse and repeat.

Defeat Dante in Bloody Palace without taking any damage.

Use Super Dante. Once the stage begins, run away as far as you can. Activate DT then use the Pandora boomerang (hold :r1: + back + :circle:). Do not release :circle: until Evil Dante is defeated. Enjoy your trophy!

Vergil - Bloody Palace guide

Strategies against weaker enemies (chimera seeds, scarecrows, gladius, cutlass, basilisk)

1. If you have DT gauge remaining, use Judgement Cut End (Press :circle: + :triangle:). Concentration should be max in order to use it. It refills automatically in DT form.

Strategies against stronger enemies (mega scarecrow, frosts, mephistos, fausts, assaults, blitz) including Dante.

1. Use Blistering Swords (Hold :r1: and press forward on the Left Analog Stick + hold :square:)

2. Then perform Rapid Slash (Yamato equipped - Hold :r1: and press forward on the Left Analog Stick + hold :triangle:).

3. Then perform Instant Judgement Cut (see video below) to inflict lots of damage.

4. Rinse and repeat.

Lady - Bloody Palace Guide

Lady is the easiest character to use in BP due to her playstyle. She lacks a decent melee combo but her ranged attacks are very powerful while maintaining a safe distance against enemies.

Strategies against enemies using Lady:

1. Handgun Lv 3 shot can knockout enemies from their feet and make them explode after 2 secs. Always use this move before using Kalina Ann Lv 3 shot against tougher enemies.

2. Wireshot and Trigger Happy can remove cloaks from Mephistos & Fausts, remove shields from Blitz and stun bosses.

3. Ground Zero and Shotgun Lv 3 shot are only powerful when you are close to the target.

4. Kalina Ann Lv 3 shot has wide area damage. Always use this move when a boss is stunned.

5. Wireshot can stun any enemy except Blitz. Use it to lift up an enemy from the ground or knock down an enemy flying.

Lady - She doesn't have a Super Costume.

Trish - Bloody Palace Guide

Trish is the hardest character to use in Bloody Palace. Her guns are relatively weak. It requires DT form to do more damage. Pandora Revenge is her only weapon against Blitz and bosses. It consumes 3 DT runes so you have to refill your DT gauge every now and then. You can refill your DT gauge quickly by using the Pandora Cancel method below:

Strategies against enemies using Trish:

Scarecrows and Mega scarecrows - Use Round Trip then hit them with melee attacks or use V-Divider to snatch them, then use Bare Knuckle Combo D, Thunder Blow or Collider after snatching them. Hold :triangle: for stronger damage.

Gladius (flying swords) - Use V-Divider in mid-air to snatch them, then use Rolling Thunder once they are stunned in the air. Activate DT if you need to recover health. These enemies drop DT runes when you kill them.

Cutlass (fish swords) - Shoot them rapidly to stun them. Use V-Divider to snatch them. Then use Thunder Blow or Collider after snatching them. Hold :triangle: for stronger damage. Jump once if you see them jumping towards you, they will get stunned after getting hit.

Basilisks (dogs) - Use V-Divider to snatch them. Then use Thunder Blow or Collider after snatching them. Hold :triangle: for stronger damage.

Frosts and Assaults - Use V-Divider to snatch them. Then use Bare Knuckle Combo D, Thunder Blow or Collider after snatching them. Hold :triangle: for stronger damage.

Alto and Bianco Angelos - Use Round Trip to stun them. Then use Bare Knuckle Combo D, Thunder Blow or Collider after stunning them. Hold :triangle: for stronger damage.

Chimera Seeds - Use V-Divider to snatch them. Then use Thunder Blow or Collider after snatching them. Hold :triangle: for stronger damage. These enemies drop Green Orbs when you kill them.

Infected Scarecrows and Infected Assaults - Use Round Trip to stun them. Use Pandora Revenge after stunning them or use the Pandora Cancel in mid-air instead after stunning them if DT gauge is empty.

Mephistos and Fausts - Use handguns in DT form to remove their cloak, now use Round Trip to stun them while they are on the ground then use Bare Knuckle Combo D, Thunder Blow or Collider after stunning them. Hold :triangle: for stronger damage.

Blitz - Use Pandora Revenge to remove his shield. Or Pandora Cancel instead if DT gauge is empty. Then use Bare Knuckle Combo D once stunned. When he enters rage mode, just run and jump to avoid him until he explodes. Activate DT when he grabs you to avoid the explosion. Always kill his companions before him (Frosts, Assaults, Mega Scarecrows, unshielded Blitz, etc.).

All bosses except Dante - Use Pandora Revenge after dodging their attack. Or use Round Trip, then use Bare Knuckle Combo D, Thunder Blow or Collider after dodging their attack. Hold :triangle: for stronger damage. They recover very slow after dodging their attack.

Strategy vs Credo

1. Run towards him and jump after he starts his combo.

2. Throw your Sparda towards him (Use Round Trip) after he finishes his combo.

3. Hit him with Pandora Revenge or attack him with melee combos if your DT gauge is empty.

4. Repeat Steps 1-3 after he recovers.

5. Use Rolling Thunder or Air Hike when you see his Javelin coming right at you. His Javelin drops Green Orbs so try to deflect it if you need to recover health.

Strategy vs Dante

1. Run away from him as far as you can.

2. Throw your Sparda towards him (Use Round Trip).

3. Shoot him with your handguns immediately after throwing your Sparda.

4. He should shoot with his guns and get stunned by Round Trip if timed correctly.

5. Hit him with Pandora Revenge or shoot him with your handguns if your DT gauge is empty.

6. Repeat Steps 2-5 after he recovers from the stun and before he starts moving.

Trish - She doesn't have a Super Costume.

Trish vs Blitz x2 - Stage 85 - This floor is really hard is you are using Trish.

You need full DT gauge when you reach stage 85 or this is going to be very hard.

1. Once the stage loads, lock-on immediately to the Blitz at the center and use Pandora Revenge (Hold :r1: + back to forward on the Left Analogue Stick and press :square:) once to remove its shield. Repeat once or twice to finish it quick.

2. Activate DT to avoid getting interrupted by the other Blitz.

3. When the other Blitz enters rage mode, keep dodging it until it explodes. Activate DT if you are grabbed.

4. Repeat steps 1-3 to the other Blitz but refill DT first using Pandora Cancel mentioned above in this guide.

If you reached stage 85 without any DT gauge, please refer to this guide below:

1. Run to the nearest side. Either left or right.

2. Keep jumping to the left/right but do not lock-on to any of them.

3. Use Pandora Cancel if one of them stops (Burrowed from the ground or start shooting electricity).

4. Repeat steps 2-3 until you have at least 3 DT runes.

5. Use Pandora Revenge if one of them stops (Burrowed from the ground or start shooting electricity) to remove its shield. Shoot him again once or twice to finish him off.

6. Repeat steps 2-5 if the Blitz survives and you ran out of DT again.

7. When the other Blitz enters rage mode, keep dodging it until it explodes. Activate DT if you are grabbed. Jumping has invincibility frames so make sure you mash it to avoid getting grabbed.

8. Repeat steps 2-5 on the other Blitz.

OMG thank you for this guide!

stage 85 and 101 are a headache D:

No problem. Bloody Palace is actually child's play with Super Dante and Super Vergil. This mode is a chore with Trish.

You can also check out my boss guide for DMD in this game. It's already pushed on the 2nd page of this board so I hope someone would bump it for me. :)

This looks like great information. I haven't started Devil May Cry 4 yet as I am still going through the earlier games right now, but when I do I'll be sure to check these out if I have any issues. Your videos have been some of the best I've seen on other games like Resident Evil HD. Thanks for taking the time to post this stuff.

Hey,

This is my first time playing the game so I was wondering if you could help me understand some trophies?

By "Clear all missions" it means beat the game with every character in "Human mode", "Devil Hunter mode", "Son of sparda mode", etc.

Also, which are the secret missions? How do I unlock them?

How do I unlock all modes?

A "mini guide", would really help me out. What order should I follow? Specially as a beginner.

Thank you.

Clear all missions = play every team/character. Each team/character has 20 missions.

These teams/characters are: Nero/Dante, Vergil and Lady/Trish.

Clear all secret missions = some missions have secret missions in them. You have to find them and clear them. Here's a guide to show you all their locations and how to clear them.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/devil-may-cry-4-special-edition/268950-devil-may-cry-4-special-edition-secret-mission-guide.html

By clearing all missions on a certain difficulty, you unlock harder modes/difficulty namely:

Devil Hunter or higher unlocks "Bloody Palace."

Legendary Dark Knight doesn't unlock "DMD."

Son of Sparda unlocks "DMD" or "Heaven or Hell."

DMD unlocks "Hell and Hell."

DMD also unlocks Super Characters for the character you used to beat it.

(Vergil unlocks Super Vergil only, Nero/Dante unlocks Super Nero/Dante only and Lady/Trish unlocks nothing but trophies.) :p

Thanks,

Also, it says I need to max the skills of Nero and Dante. Is there anyway I retry missions and farm? Or do I have to beat the story mode multiple times? Also, do I need to get the super version of the characters? It comes naturally I guess. Are they useful for something?

Proud souls are shared between chars so if you got let's say 100k for example with Vergil then Dante Nero Trish and Lady will also have 100k proud souls. Also LDK mission 2 should reward you quite a lot of Proud Souls if you can beat it. (Which might be a lil hard if you just started the game.) Though i never famred that mission i still got more than enough proud souls.

As for Super versions they do make beat Bloody Palace a walk in the park. Also they do help on HaH playthrough (unless you already beat it on HaH) They also can be quite helpfull with gettting SSS finish on bosses.

With so many playthroughs you shouldn´t waste time on farming. It will come naturally.

And yeah after getting all upgrades there is not much for it. I have like 500k now lol.

I see.

What target type do yo use? Which one is the best in your opinion?

Speaking about lock-on type, I think it's a personal preference. When I started the game I thought the best is Type 1, after some time I changed to Type 2 then changed back to Type 1. After 2-3 days of gaming I tried Type 3 and playing with it to this day. I like to kill enemies that are closest to me to avoid their close range combos on me.

If you want to max the skills of Dante and Nero as fast as possible just for a trophy, then refund (yes, you can do it) all skills and probably you will have enough "money" to buy all skills for one player (Nero). Max the skills of Nero, then refund all skills again and max the other player (Dante) skills.

How do you have the charges always maxed with lady? Is there a super Lady costume as well?

If so, does it lower the rank of the palace?

I was using debug mode on the PC version. I was trying to make the video shorter because the recorded video is eating up lot of space in my HDD. I'm just showing everyone how to deal with most enemies in BP. But it's doable by normal means, just keep dodging while charging your guns. Spamming wire shot in mid-air helps too. You have less chances of getting hit when you are airborne.

Just finished my first run through BP with Lady on Turbo mode. Couple things worth noting and correcting:

- Use fully loaded Kalina Ann on slowest enemies

- Use fully loaded twin guns on any other enemies

- On wave 99, the knights DO NOT suicide, unfortunately....

- Stage 101 Dante DOES NOT change his style when you're running from him. When he has royal guard, you'll have to make him hit (dodge that!). When he does, he might change style.

- Playing with Lady on Turbo mode gave me 4 trophies: for Turbo mode, completing BP with S ranking, BP under 2 hours and BP with Lady

- Killing bosses in BP with SSS rank DOES NOT give you trophies for SSS bosses kills. I killed two of them with SSS rank, and didn't receive a trophy

- Every time your camera doesnt show your opponent, he can't attack. Manipulate the camera so you can see only you. You're safe that way. You can use it to face camera at your front and fully load bazooka. Until enemies actually appear on your screen, you're good.

And couple of general tips from me:

- Completing 20 missions as Lady/Trish or Vergil, and S-ing them give you respective trophies.

- I killed Echidna with "A" rank, but had SSS in the middle of the fight. I got the trophy for it, but this trick did not work with any other boss.

- If you absolutely hate Vergil or Lady/Trish, you can complete the Heaven or hell with them. There's no S ranks for these. I dislike vergil playstyle, so I've done that.

The floor I keep dying on as Trish is floor 85 dealing with two blitz at once is annoying as there is almost no opening to use pandora's laser is there an effective way to deal with blitzs.

DT Guns do pretty well at negating them, then round trip + breakdance with devil trigger on is enough to put them in red state. While they're in red just run in a circle around the arena and they usually will do the laser which you'll avoid automatically. 85 is the hardest floor so no shame dying to it.

I got to 88 my first serious try with Lady, ironically I died because I had to use grenades on the relatively easy floor 87 and didn't have enough to immediately kill the Blitz so the Mega Scarecrows had time to rev up their attacks. I think Lady has a pretty easy time dealing with Dante so 85 is definitely the roadblock for her once you get out of the 20-30 blitz mayhem.

Here's a playlist if you're interested to see my methods (I use the shotgun as a primary, as long as you're good at jump canceling tends to dole out the most damage):

Vergil's playstyle is really amazing btw. I really love his fighting style in Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends. :)

I just finished a run of BP with Lady earlier today, and they definitely do suicide. Not right as they spawn, but if you jump around for a bit, they'll be sent to their deaths eventually.

I have a recording of that fight, and I can upload it. It's probably dependant on camera showing the opponents. In my case I never looked at the knights, and they never commited cuicide. I killed them all. Anyways - I wouldnt definitely say this is the easiest floor:D

PS. 5.5 Million points, can anyone beat that?:>

As long as you don't kill the Altos, all Biancos will regroup and commit suicide. This is 100% guaranteed even in the original DMC4.

I can't remember which character I used to beat your score.
