The Persuasive trophy requires you to recruit 10 Agents, and the Master Alchemist trophy requires you to upgrade your Potions, Tonics and Grenades 30 times in total. There are more than 20 Agents, and there are more than double the upgrades needed for the Potions, Tonics and Grenades. However, Agents are easily missable and not all that easy to find if you don't know where to look, what to do, or mainly what to say to them. And for the 30 total Potions, Tonics and Grenades upgrades you'll need to find new recipes, as well as needing many common and rare Herbs. All of these aren't all that easy to find.

This guide will show you where to find 22 Agents, all the Potions, Tonics and Grenades Recipes and their upgrades, and where to find all the common and rare Herbs.

For the Persuasive trophy you'll need to recruit 10 Agents in total. There are at least 22 agents, the majority of which are easily missable. You can recruit 21 agents in one playthrough. Some of them will disappear permantly in your playthrough if you don't try to recruit them as soon as you're able to, or if you don't use the correct dialogue to recruit them.

To check your progress and recruited agents, go to the War Table and enter the Inquisition Perk list (press :triangle:) and check for the unlocked agents in each category at the bottom. Recruited agents will lower the time required for your advisors to complete operations. They will also count towards any perk that requires a number of perk points to be spend first to unlock. Not all of them show up here though, as some will simply unlock new operations. Agents that don't shop in the perks list are: Belle, Alexius, Barris, Chief Movram, Mercenary and Duchess Florianne when taken alive.

The list of Agents are placed in order of when you're able to recruit them and where to find them. Whenever I refer to a companion, make sure to bring that companion with you and whenever the dialogue mentions their name (e.g. "Varric?"), choose that option. All the spoiler tags have images of the location if needed.

For more info on the trophy itself, please see the Dragon Age: Inquisition - Trophy Guide & Roadmap

For the Master Alchemist trophy, you'll need to up upgrade your Potions, Tonics and Grenades 30 times in total. With the amount of potions, tonics and grenades you start out with, you won't be able to achieve this.

You'll need to find recipes to unlock new potions, tonics and grenades. And in order to upgrade them, you'll need herbs, including rare herbs. You don't need to find all the recipes nor do you need to upgrade all of them, as there are 70 upgrades in total. The lists below will tell you where to find all the recipes. The spoiler tags contain images on locations and some directions if needed. You can also use the video at the bottom if you prefer to do so. A list with all possible upgrades and the requirements can be found below.

You'll need common and rare herbs for many things, but you'll mainly need them to upgrade potions, tonics and grenades 30 times in total for the
Master Alchemist
trophy. If you need a specific herb, whether it's a common or rare herb, you can use this guide to easily find them, along with some tips to increase your harvesting efficiency.

For more info on the trophy itself, please see the

__________________________________________________ ____________________

  • When you get to Skyhold, you'll receive the "Nursery Seeds" quest to gather seeds. Whenever you pick up a herb, or even a rare herb, you have a chance of obtaining a seed of that herb. (You might not get seeds for Crystal Grace though, as this one is bugged.) You'll be able to plant whatever you seed you have in the Skyhold Garden and easily harvest them there. Herbs will grow each time you leave Skyhold. Just keep checking back and harvest them whenever you get back to Skyhold. Or leave Skyhold, come back and repeat if necessary in order to harvest them as soon as possible. Seeds can be used an infinite amount of times.
  • Before picking up a Rare Herb, manually save your game. If the Herb didn't give you a seed, reload that save and try again. This might take a few tries, but shouldn't take more than five tries. As mentioned above, this doesn't work for Crystal Grace as this one is bugged and doesn't give you seeds.
  • Leaving an area and returning right after will immediately respawn all herbs you've harvested.
  • Some of the Rare Herbs can easily be spotted from a distance, as they're more distinct than other Herbs. Rare Herbs are also bigger than their common counter part. They don't always look the same though. Rashvine (common herb) for example hangs on walls, while Rashvine Nettle (rare herb) is a normal flower that grows on the ground.
  • There are numerous operations that will gather resources for you. Just take a look at any of the "Resources" operations and read what each person can find for you, or see the list below for operation that you can use.
  • There's an Inquisition Perk called Optimal Cutting, which gives you a 10% chance to pick up more herbs each time you harvest one.
  • The Eagle-Eyed Inquisition perk will increase the range of the ping (search) function. Herbs that are farther away will be easier to find. They also show up on your minimap as a fading dot.
  • The Trainee, Veteran and Master Herbalist perks give you an one time only batch of herbs per perk. They also have a change of giving you herb seeds if you don't have them already. Whether they're worth it or not, is up to you. You can always save before using it, obtain the trophy and reload that save afterwards. You'll of course lose all your upgraded potions and whatever else you did in the meantime. Here's what the perks give you.

Unlike the Rare Herbs, I didn't include images of possible locations as they can be found everywhere pretty easily and all but 3 of them can be bought at merchants.

All the spoiler tags contain images of the Rare Herb location and some directions on how to get there. You can also use the video at the bottom if you prefer to do so.

You can find Rare Herbs at multiple locations, but I've chosen these locations as they're close to a camp and/or offer two or more Rare Herbs close to each other.

Amrita Vein

http://i.imgur.com/WeRhU1D.png

  • The Hissing Wastes

[spoiler=amrvei]
From Sand Crags Camp in the Hissing Wastes walk towards the North. You'll come across a rock arch. Go past it and you'll see another rock arch. You can find 1 Amrite Vein on the left in front of it, 1 on the right in front of it, 1 in the middle in front of it, 1 in the middle of the arch and 1 behind the arch on the left.

Black Lotus

http://i.imgur.com/C50ReJO.png

  • The Storm Coast

  • Emerald Graves

  • The Exalted Plains

  • Emprise Du Lion

[spoiler=blacklts]
Two seperate Black Lotus herbs can be found along the coastline in the Storm Coast. A far better spot however is inside the Daerwin's Mouth dungeon in the Storm Coast. At the very end of this dungeon you can find 3 Black Lotus Herbs on the right of a Boat that you can use and 1 on the left of it. If you're facing the boat, you can also go towards the left and at the very end you can find another 3 Black Lotus Herbs. Before you can enter this Dungeon however, you'll need to start the "Red Water" quest. You start this quest automatically by finishing the "Red Templars on the Storm Coast" Operation on the Fereldan side at the War Table. This Operation unlocks automatically after story progression.

Crystal Grace

http://i.imgur.com/N0thz6m.png

  • The Hinterlands

  • The Emerald Graves

[spoiler=crystlgrc]
From the Forest Camp in the Hinterlands move south-west, or west from the Grand Forest Villa. A Crystal Grace can be found near a small mountain wall between a rock and a tree. With the rock and the three behind you, walk forwards and you'll see a wooden ramp in front of you. Walk towards it and you'll find another Crystal Grace next to a rock and tree.

http://i.imgur.com/HHCR5J3.png

(The Rashvine Nettle location has 1 Crystal Grace nearby as well.)

Dawn Lotus

http://i.imgur.com/HJixnFp.png

  • The Fallow Mire

  • The Fallow Mire Resource Operation

    • Leliana: Dawn Lotus + Blood Lotus

[spoiler=dawnlots]
In the Fallow Mire you can come across 4 Beacons. Getting close to one will give you the "Beacons in the Dark" quest. Light the Veilfire at each beacon and kill all the demons that spawn. This will give you a fast travel point. Travel to the fourth beacon and move directly towards the west from this point. You'll come across some stone pillars. In the water at the outer-edge of these pillars you'll find 3 Dawn Lotus herbs next to each other.

Dragonthorn

http://i.imgur.com/RlJ9mLq.png

  • The Forbidden Oasis

  • The Western Approach

  • The Exalted Plains

  • The Hissing Wastes

[spoiler=drgnthrn]
From Desert Camp, the first camp you enter in the Forbidden Oasis, go directly towards the west and stay on the sand. At the very end you'll find one lonely Dragonthorn close to a path leading downwards.

http://i.imgur.com/DRzihIS.png

If you stand in the water in the middle of the oasis in the Forbidden Oasis, with the Solasan dungeon in front of you and the Oasis camp on your right, walk towards the north and you'll see an entrance on the left. Go inside and follow the path. At some point you can choose to go right or left, go left. Once you're outside again you'll see a Dragonthorn directly in front of you. Walk along the wooden bridge on the right which will lead you to another entrance. Don't go inside, on the rocks a bit below you on the left between the bushes is another Dragonthorn. If you turn around you can also pick up a Witherstalk. When picking up that Witherstalk, behind you on a rock below is another Witherstalk.

Felandaris

http://i.imgur.com/IHOIvUZ.png

  • Emerald Graves

  • Emprise Du Lion Resource Operation

    • Leliana: Felandaris + Arbor Blessing

[spoiler=fldrs]
From Sahrnia Camp, the very first camp you enter in Emprise Du Lion, go outside the village and onto the ice on the right. Follow the ice all the way to the north-west. You'll see a windmill. At the very back of the windmill where the rocks meet the ice you can find 2 Felandaris herbs and 1 Rashvine Nettle.

Ghoul's Beard

http://i.imgur.com/wi8FmoN.png

  • The Western Approach

  • The Exalted Plains

  • The Hissing Wastes

[spoiler=ghouberd]
From the Lost Spring Canyon Camp, the first camp you enter in the Western Approach follow along the path to the west. You'll come to two dungeon entrances next to each other, the Sand Rock Mines. Outside an the left entrance is 1 Ghoul's Beard. You can also find 2 Ghoul's Beard in each dungeon as well.

  • Emerald Graves

[spoiler=prphtsl]
From Gracevin Camp in the Emerald Graves, go directly to the North. You'll find 1 directly in front of you, 1 a bit farther away next to a picnic blanket. Another one can be found close to a rock behind the tree that's next to the second Prophet's Laurel.

Rashvine Nettle

http://i.imgur.com/vqnC2Bx.png

  • Emerald Graves

  • The Exalted Plains

  • Emprise Du Lion

[spoiler=rshvnenet]
When you're at Direstone Camp in the Emerald Graves, go along the path that looks a bit like a grassy/rock stairs. When you're at the top go immediately towards the east. This will lead you to the entrance of Chateau d'Onterre villa. If you're facing the gate directly, on your right, you can find a Rashvine Nettle. If you move away from the villa from this spot, you'll find another one a bit further away, another on top of a small rock behind that one, and finally another one a little further along the way from that one. On the very left is also a small path between the rocks where you can find a Crystal Grace.

  • The Exalted Plains

  • The Hissing Wastes

[spoiler=wthstalk]
From Desert Camp, the first camp you enter in the Forbidden Oasis, go directly towards the north and you'll come across an Ocularum. If you look in front of you, you'll see a ladder. Next to that ladder is a Witherstalk.

The elfroot can be bought in hinterlands and crestwood i think but the problem is with the rare herbs needed to upgrade potions.

A list of merchants with herbs needed for Resistance Tonics upgrades would be amazing.

Where abouts in Crestwood/Hinterlands? I'll have to go looking for this merchant!

Every merchant that sells herbs can be found in post Nr5. Sadly none sells Rare herbs. Currently in the progress of getting screenshots of the rare herbs, and their -possible- location(s). Also figuring out which resource operations have a chance to give (rare) herbs.

Crossroads merchant in Hinterlands

And there is a Fort you capture in Crestwood, after you capture some merchants will appear

Much appreciated man! I should really check what merchants have on offer more often, I rarely seem to use them at all.

Also props to you Vuule for both this guide and your roadmap, they've both been extremely handy!

I couldn't get Ritts to join in the Hinterlands. Obviously, she was dead. Is this a possible outcome for the quest, that she dies? I mean, I wouldn't mind having a revived corpse as an agent, I don't mind necromancy at all... :D

Can she die? I had no idea she could. Saw her in both my playthroughs. If she's dead, you won't be able to recruit her. Have you tried talking to the Worried Scout? There are quite a few agents that you can permantly miss out on.

Yep, I got the quest from him, but when I found Ritts, she was already dead (playing on Nightmare, but taking my sweet time => maybe Ritts got bored and commited suicide...!). Journal was updated to report back to the Worried Scout. If I remember correctly, I even got exp and probably power after handing in the quest. Oh well, there's more than enough agents to recruit so I ain't worried...

At least you have an excuse, i spoke to her and didn't have Varric so missed the chance to recruit her after I spoke to the worried scout. :(

I've found some great locations for all the rare herbs. I will post images of the rare herbs themselves and the locations soon. Also currently rendering a video with all the locations.

EDIT: Video has been added. Images should be up tomorrow.
