Introduction: For those reading this, I am sure you have either attempted or have come here as a last resort for the (P) of Vanquish. After completing an Act, a new Challenge Mode will unlock giving you a chance to test yourself. The Challenge mode features enemies faced in accordance and areas to each act played in story mode; challenge 6, however, is a secret challenge which is unlocked prior to completing Challenge 5.

This guide's sole purpose is to help you obtain Vanquish's (P). With that being said, I will go step-by-step and round-by-round to make those pesky challenges go from extremely frustrating to fairly simple. Now let's get started, shall we?

To reiterate: The challenge mode is extremely difficult, especially Challenge 6, and this trophy alone will make or break the platinum; however, while not impossible will put you at the edge of your seat!

The trophy you will unlock by following this guide is:

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/386/50.jpg

Tactical Challenger (G) :tagdifficulty:

Complete all of the Tactical Challenges in VANQUISH.

This is probably the hardest trophy this game has to offer and will give you the most trouble so expect to die and hit restart a lot.

Challenge 1

Round 1

Difficulty: 2/10 - Due to timing

Just as you start the round, you want to make your way to the right as fast as possible, to the second set of cover. Toss a grenade at each of the spawning Gorgies and they should all be dead by the time they Spawn.

Round 2

Difficulty: 3/10

In this round you will be facing 3 Romanovs: One Missile and Two Gatling Guns (these are extremely dangerous as they can instantly kill you if you do not manage to shoot the huge missile that comes out of there back).

At this point use AR mode to shoot this Romanov's weak point on its back - Shotgun preferred. Now head back and finish the last two Romanov's, pick up the Rocket Launcher from set of weapons laid out then get ready for Round 3.

Round 3

Difficulty: 3/10

You will see 3 Flamethrower Romanov's and the 9 USR models of the Gorgies in this fight.

You should have or be close to the Rocket Launcher at this point, pick it up and as they spawn left and right of where you originally started the challenge, shoot at the ground underneath them and it should kill the USR robots but not the Romanov. Now, this just leaves the Romanovs which can be killed by by shooting their packs.

Round 4

Difficulty: 4/10

In this round you face 3 Romanov's and 3 Mobile Turrets.

You should be at the other side of the map since you had to take care of the last Flamethrower Romanov here. You are going to want to stay mobile or in cover and take out the Gorgies to obtain a turret to conserve ammo and easily dispatch of the Romanov's easily. Be sure to not destroy any of the turrets yourself as they will be helpful in the last round.

Round 5

Difficulty: Varies on how you are with a single Bogey

Last round and probably the hardest; this round features 2 Romanov's and a Bogey. You will want to quickly take out the Romanovs as they will be a hassle if you do not, first. Remember the turret I told you to keep? Find it quickly as the Bogey will EMP it and the Romanovs can destroy it.

In this round there are 4 sets of EMP grenades located at the end of each side of the level along with grenades, use them to your advantage in this round. If caught in critical mode, find cover and press :l1: to allow Sam to light a Cigarette while in cover - it will save your life. After dispatching the Romanovs, the Bogey should go down pretty easily.

Challenge 2

Round 1

Difficulty: 3/10

As soon as the round starts quickly throw grenades at each spawn, quickly take out the snipers on the posts and the Robot on the turret.

Round 2

Difficulty: 4/10

Quickly to the back corner, grab the Rocket Launcher and head to the middle of the area. From here, target the Mobile Turret, the Flamethrower Romanov and the Mobile Turret, then take out the Rocket Romanov and the rest of USR's.

Round 3

Difficulty: 4/10

Walk over and upgrade your Rocket Launcher then throw some EMP grenades to instantly destroy the Ariel para-glider robots (2 preferred). Take out the remaining robots with either your shotgun or preferred weapon. After this, use one of the cubes to upgrade your Rocket Launcher.

Round 4

Difficulty: 4/10

In the very middle, you will see a bundle of robots appear. Start off by shooting a Rocket at the group and focusing on the Romanovs by shooting their heads off, then go into AR mode and shoot the hovering ship with your Rocket Launcher to dispatch it from bringing in more enemies.

Round 5

Difficulty: 5/10

Final round, this is the round the Blue USR bots appear and the Bia included. Start this round by throwing your last EMP to the set closest to the Bia and shoot a rocket into the group farthest from the left while in AR mode, then finally melee the Bia into the stunned bots and shoot your last rocket, destroying that entire group. Lastly an upgrade should pop up, grab it then use your Rockets for the final time and finish off the Bia.

Challenge 3

Round 1

Difficulty: 4/10

Quickly make your way to the far right and grab the Rocket Launcher. You will most likely be put into critical mode doing this, but use this to your advantage. Shoot all three rockets into the spawning areas to quickly end the round and grab the upgrade here. The only thing left should be a flying turret which can be easily taken down.

Round 2

Difficulty: 3/10 - if done correctly

Go back to the farthest end of the map and use the Rocket Launcher to kill these three enemies before they spawn in.

Round 3

Difficulty:4/10

Head to the back and throw and EMP and Grenade as these guys spawn in; this will make you life a whole lot easier. Now, for the rest of the round you will have to deal with 3 Drill Romanov's, which are the easiest out of them all. Should you have trouble, throw an EMP and shoot them in the back. Also, be sure to grab the Disk launcher for the melee off-set you can deal without overheating the suit.

Round 4

Difficulty: 4/10

Go back to the opposite of the map after destroying your last Drill Romanov and you are going to want to use the Rocket to destroy the two enemies on the right and left before they spawn. Now, you should have only the Unknown to fight at this point. Okay, now equip the Disk Launcher and do the standard melee (this will not overheat the suit) then Dash kick him; while in AR mode in the air, shoot a Rocket to take his health down immensely. Now, make sure there is an upgrade cube nearby to max out your Rockets again, then use the Disk launcher again to make the Unknown break apart (your suit should be either cool or almost cooled down), then let him have it with another Rocket.

Round 5

Difficulty: 5/10

At the beginning you will be fighting the Buzzard for the first time in challenge mode. You will want to use your rockets here as they will extremely beneficial to you here. When you are out, be sure to quickly pick up an upgrade cube and repeat the process. Pick up another upgrade cube and the last two enemies should only be the parapelliar robot.

Challenge 4

Round 1

Difficulty: 5/10 - Timing is everything here.

Simply make your way to the other side of the level causing the robots to chase you. Now throw an EMP causing the Flamethrower Romanov tank to be exposed, then shoot it's casing to destroy the surrounding enemies. Finally, use your shotgun to finish off any stragglers.

Round 2

Difficulty: 5/10

As soon as you're done with that last enemy, head over to the end of the stage to pick up the LFE Gun, turn around, look to the right then shoot one to the rear and in front of you. This will take out most of the group in only 2 shoots. Do not leave this area as others will spawn, throw an EMP and a Frag to get rid of these guys.

Go towards the edge of the door, and pick off any small enemies that approach. Try and shoot the heads off these Romanovs as we are more worried about surviving than time here.

Round 3

Difficulty: 5/10

Upgrade your shotgun and replace your LFE GUN with the Heavy Assault Rifle. In this area you will be facing a flying turret and a few normal robots. After the first wave, an Unknown will spawn and be sure to keep your distance. Use your last EMP here, stunning the Unknown and allowing you to get those final hits in. Before leaving this area be sure to pick up the set of EMP grenades, because you will need them for the next area. Be sure to also use the Upgrade Cube on your Heavy Assault Rifle.

Round 4

Difficulty: 4/10

There is a tree on the far left, take cover here and throw an EMP grenade at the paraglide robots to instantly take them out as the approach. This should stun the red robots, take this time to throw a grenade and finish them off as well. The last thing is the tank but is not as difficult as it looks; just get behind it and shoot its weak spot – stay moving constantly here. Before leaving here, pick up the Rocket Launcher on the side of the area.

Round 5

Difficulty: 7/10

This is the most difficult area as it is very small. You will face a Blue USR bots, Crystal Viper and a couple Romanovs. If you still have some EMP grenades then use them here.

First, you want to throw a grenade into the spawn killing as many of the USR bots as possible. From there, look to your left and shoot the Romanovs' head off; if you do not, it will continuously shoot at you. Throw an EMP grenade and shoot the tank off the Flamethrower Romanov; be sure not to get to close to the Flamethrower Romanov as if he overheats your suit, you are as good as dead. Be sure to shoot the heads off the remaining two Romanov’s then deal with the Crystal Viper.

Challenge 5

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQLBsBIHHR0]Vanquish Challenge 5 Time 3.19.19 - YouTube[/ame]

Round 1

Difficulty: 2/10

Start off by throwing an EMP to the ground then throwing a grenade above the robots; go into AR mode and shoot the grenade, grab the Rocket Launcher and head to the door.

Round 2

Difficulty: 3/10

Start off by shooting a Rocket then jumping over cover, going into AR mode to shoot another at the ground. Finally, shoot your last Rocket, and melee the last enemy. Grab the upgrade cube for the Rockets and make your way to the bridge.

Round 3

Difficulty: 5/10

As enemies are spawning, throw a grenade getting rid of some of the Blue USR bots. As the Buzzard is spawning, throw a EMP to stun them and any Rockets to deal some serious damage. Melee the Buzzard and throw down an EMP grenade to stun it, again, then switch to your shotgun to get a few hits. Afterwards, melee it again to finish it off.

Round 4

Difficulty: 3/10 -Easy, just shoot their heads off

Before proceeding there are some EMP grenades on the right side of the door. Anyways, this round is probably the easiest, just take your time and shoot their heads off and steer clear so you do not get hit.

Round 5

Difficulty: 5/10

This round is tedious as the sniper's will not make it easy for you, and you have an Argus Robot to worry about too. Take out the sniper's first and foremost, they will be the reason you fail this challenge. After the Sniper's are taken care of, their is a room you can unlock that has additional EMP and Rocket ammo for you - easy peasy.

Challenge 6

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0ANB-UneYs]Vanquish Challenge 6 - 9.49.94 - YouTube[/ame]

Round 1

Difficulty: 5/10

Start running around destroying as many robots as you can, while avoiding the Crystal Viper with the Assault Rifle. Now with all the Robots destroyed it is time to focus on the Crystal Viper; keep on your toes and counter him every he start running towards you. He will drop an upgrade block, do not use it now, instead come back to it later.

Round 2

Difficulty: 6/10 - have to time it perfectly

At the statue, throw two grenades at the spawning robots and stay aware of the Bogey. There will be 2 sets of paraglider robots that will converge on you so let them, then throw an EMP grenade to destroy them. Lastly, the Bogey should press no worries and is fairly easy. Before you kill the last robot, grab the LFE GUN as you're going to need it for the next round.

Round 3

Difficulty: 7/10

This round will consist heavily on Romanovs. Before the round starts head to the back of the stairs leading to some rubble(look at video). Throw a grenade to kill the regular robots from spawning, then shoot the Flamethrower Romanov with the LFE knocking him into the other; shoot his tank so when it explodes taking it and 80% of another's health down. After that, you want to shoot the head off of the Rocket Romanov and deal with the last two Drill Romanovs.

Another method of getting rid of the Romanov's by Natsume:

Use the disc cutter to get head shots on the Romanovs, takes them off in one shot. After that you can literally just stand and do nothing, they'll kill themselves

Round 4

Difficulty: 8/10

In this round, your LFE gun is your best friend. At the stairs, the ball bots will spawn, prevent this by shooting an LFE shot at them. Afterwards, quickly make your approach to the right side of the stage to take out one of the flying turrets. As soon as you do this, throw an EMP at the ground and kill the remaining USR bots. Now comes the hard, long part - there are 2 Bia's awaiting you but are manageable if you keep your distance. Be sure to shoot down the purple missiles they shoot at you or you will die. After you kill both of them, pick up the Lock-on laser and Rocket Launcher.

Round 5

Difficulty: 9/10 or 10/10 for most.

You have made it this far and I'll try not to let you down! This is by far the hardest round in the entire game and will test your abilities as a player.

First, at the left and right of the stairs, the ball bots will spawn. Be sure to pay attention as the bogeys will EMP you, resulting in immediate death. Use the LFE gun to destroy both spawns, then focus your attention on the Blue Bogey first as he drops Rockets when he dies.

You will always want to be on the move, do not stop but make sure to utilize the EMP grenades on the right side of the map when empty - they will be your lifesaver if put into critical mode. Also, be sure to light a cigarette to distract them for a few seconds. Use the Lock-on Laser until empty on the Blue Bogey then use the Cube to give you more shots and finish him off.

Stay on the move, never stop; when one of them says "Aim carefully" GET OUT OF THERE as he is about to throw an EMP grenade at you. Continue this process and when they come in for a melee attack shoot a Rocket at the ground near them! Eventually you will run out of Rocket Ammo but the Blue Bogey should be dead after emptying the Lock-on Laser for the first time.

Additional info by Chucho2484:

It is really tough to beat the final round but with practice is very doable. Here's a tip: In the area where you start and the end of the right part there's a wall that you can hide a while against the bogeys it helps me a lot and is not shown in the video guide, use it if you got hit cause sometimes bogeys wait from the other side of the wall and gives enough time to recover AR bar.

Congratulations, you just obtained the toughest trophy in the game :D. Hopefully this guide has helped anyone trying obtain this trophy.

One of the toughest trophies to exist I would say is an overstatement, but nonetheless a good guide, great job.

Have you played it?

My work here is done :ninja: *Disappears from this forum*

No really, looks like a great guide Dragon! :)

Thank you, really. It took me some time to get everything up and to test run scenarios to see if it worked, luckily it did.

This might just motivate me to go back to this game and see if I can't overcome Challenge 6. If I decide to, I'll definitely use this guide. Good job!

You should, Vanquish is a great game. Good luck!

Yes I have, and I have platinum, the first 5 challenges are easy, the 6th is difficult, granted.

The only round that gave me bother though was round 4 with the scorpions. The first ever time i reached the fifth and final wave 5 with the bogeys, i beat it.

It is tough, but there are WAY worse trophies out there.

Challenge 4 was the worst for me. Definitely more than 6... Round 1, Round 2 and Round 5 suck. Would add at least +1 to the difficulty of those.

Challenge 4 was only difficult because of the Crystal Viper at the end. Other than that, I got it on my second try.

The Bia's take the longest as you do not have any upgraded weapons. I am sure there are worse trophies, but many unlike you and myself, consider this extremely hard to beat. In simple terms, if you can beat this you can beat almost any difficult trophy out there.

That is a lie, beating challenge 6= able to beat SF4 trials/persona 4 score attack/Razing storm's sentry mode....i think not

I may have to see if this actually works for myself before putting it in the guide  Thanks for the advice, I will add it as soon as I can :)

Hope it works for you, that wall saves my life more than once, sometimes just one bogey (blue) came to my way but I was about to recover AR bar so I jump all the way out of there:D

Well I think that you can use it for other rounds but I used the video walkthrough for the first 4 rounds, that wall method appears from nothing because I just want to survive the attack of the bogeys:o:p:D

Did you at all use this guide or something else, if I may ask? If so, was it beneficial to you? I made it a text/video guide as some people do better one way than the other.

Yes I use the video guide here and was very helpful from round 1 to 4. In round 5 I was having trouble killing the rolling balls but I never stopped moving, when I was in danger and the ARS trigger I quickly try to find cover from the bogeys and wait until the bar returns. Most of the time I was about to cooldown when the bogeys pass above me and I started moving and the AR bar fills back and started dodging the attacks.:p Is a shame I don't have a recording device to show how I did it.:o
