Introduction:

 

Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry is a stand alone PSN title, and a reworked version of the DLC of the same name released for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. You play as Adéwale, the former second-in-command of Edward Kenways ship, the Jackdaw. Set 15 years after the events that take place in Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. You are stranded/ shipwrecked in Saint-Domingue and must face the the brutal local slave trade on your own.

 

In regards to gameplay, there are no major differences between Freedom Cry as a stand alone title with that of the original DLC that was released in December 2013. The trophy list consists of 12 trophies, in comparison to that of the DLC version of the game which only comprised 6. These original 6 trophies have carried over, and the additional 6 that have been added were originally present in the base game trophy list for Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. As such, there are no new trophies that have been added to this stand alone title, rather, a combination of trophies from the original base game and that of the Freedom Cry DLC. The logic behind the release of this game as a stand alone title is to provide new players to the Assassins Creed series a taste of the gameplay, story etc, with hope that they will go out and subsequently play/ purchase the full Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag title game.

 

Glitches:

 

Numerous people have encountered freezing issues when launching this game on the PS3. If you encounter this problem, you will likely have to hard reset your PS3. The only known workaround is to play offline or to simply persevere as the game will eventually load.

 

 

Walkthrough:

 

Step 1 - Complete all missions, including 100% synchronization on all main story missions

 

Play through the main story and complete all nine memories. I suggest completing all additional objectives during this step in order to achieve 100% synchronization. This will reduce the amount of memory replaying you will have to do post game. All additional objectives in the game a straight forward and won't cause you much hassle, refer to the His Full Attention trophy description for a full 100% synchronization walkthrough for each memory.

 

At the end of this step, you will have unlock (at a minimum), the following trophies-

 

(B) Liberation Day

(B) His Own Medicine

(S) His Word Was "Perhaps"

(G) His Full Attention

 

 

Step 2 - Miscellaneous trophy clean up

 

For this step you will unlock the remaining non-story related trophies. You may have already unlocked a few of these during Step 1 but if not, now is the time to finish off what trophies remain.

 

At the end of this step you will have unlocked the following trophies-

Trophy Guide:

Free your first slave.

 

Story related cannot be missed.

 

[spoiler=LD]This will be the first trophy you unlock and is obtained in Memory 2 - A Common Enemy. At the start of the missions/memory, you will wash ashore after your ship was destroyed by the storm at the end of Memory 1 - The calm before the storm. After you awaken and the cinematic has finished, chase the man who is in pursuit of the female slave; then the trophy will unlock once you have killed him and the subsequent cinematic has finished.

Liberate 500 slaves.

 

In order to unlock this trophy you must liberate/save 500 slaves throughout the game. There are a range of locations and methods available to you that will result in varying numbers of slaves being liberated. These include-

  • Auctioneer (3 slaves)
  • Jail (4 slaves)
  • Convoy (3 slaves)
  • Slave ship (80+ slaves)
  • Slave pen (4 slaves)
  • Injury (1 slave)
  • Auction (3 slaves)
  • Maroon resistance (2 slaves)
  • Punishment (slaves)
  • Escape (1 slave)
  • Plantations (30+ slaves)

Each of the above liberation methods will yield a varying number of slaves but the best ones to target are plantations and slave ships as they will reward you with between 30-40 and 90 slaves respectively. These can be difficult early in the game to liberate as there can be 20+ enemies in the surrounding area in which you must kill in order to liberate the slaves. If you are detected within plantations, enemies will start killing slaves, thus reducing the overall number in which are available to you to liberate. As such, I suggest leaving these two liberation locations till later in the game when you have bought a few upgrades.The remaining liberation options listed above will reward you with between 1-5. You will come across many of these throughout the main island or Port-au-Prince, and the majority of which are relatively easy to complete as there are only between 1-5 enemies in which you must kill.

 

Each liberation location will be displayed on the map which can be accessed by pressing :select:. If you move the cursor over any of the available liberation icons present on the map it will tell you how many slaves are available to be liberated. You can check the progress of the total number of slaves you have liberated at any time by pressing :start: to access the pause menu and then scrolling up to 'resistance'. For the icons for all the above listed slave liberation locations, press :select: to access the map, then :l2: to open up the legend and then scroll all the way to the bottom.

 

Note: There is a cooling off period between each slave liberation location. The smaller the number of slaves that can be liberated at a location the quicker it will reappear. For example: A liberated injured slave will reappear much quicker then a liberated plantation.

Kill 5 guards at once with a blunderbuss.

 

You will automatically unlock the blunderbuss at the end of Memory 3 - Laying the First Brick.

 

The best location for this trophy is during the last mission, Memory 9 - de Fayet's last stand. You will get to a stage in the mission where you will be chasing him through Port-au-Prince. At the same time there will be at least 10 guards in pursuit of you. Simply turn around and hold :l1: to aim the blunderbuss into the group of oncoming guards and press :r1:. You will most definitely kill at least 5 guards with one shot. If not then simply reload your gun by pressing :triangle: and try again.

Achieve 100% synchronization

 

In order to achieve 100% synchronization, you must complete all optional objectives from each of the 8 memories listed below:

 

Note: Memory 2 - A common enemy has no optional objectives

  • Memory 1 - The calm before the storm
  • Memory 3 - Laying the first brick
  • Memory 4 - A ship of his own
  • Memory 5 - Lifting the veil
  • Memory 6 - A scientific inquiry
  • Memory 7 - Plant the seeds
  • Memory 8 - Down with the ship
  • Memory 9 - de Fayet's Last Stand

Each memory has two additional objectives that will need to be completed for 100% synchronization. You do not need to get both on a single playthrough, however, they are all pretty straight forward so you shouldn't have any problems with them. Below is a walkthrough of how to get 100%

synchronization in all memories.

 

Memory 1 - The calm before the storm

 

Locate the Templar Admiral's ship using the SPYGLASS

 

At the start of the mission hold :r2: to use the SPYGLASS and zoom with the :ls:. The Admiral's ship is named the man o' war and is positioned in the

middle of the other ships. Simply aim the SPYGLASS at it to satisfy this objective.

 

Use the mortar to surprise the Templar fleet

 

In order to use the mortar attack hold :l2: and move the cursor onto one of the ships. At this point the cursor will change colour from white to red, indicating that you have locked onto your target. You will then need to press :r1: to fire. As long as you hit one of the ships in the Templar fleet before they have spotted you, you will satisfy the objective so I suggest doing this at the very start before progressing any closer to the fleet.

 

Memory 2 - A common enemy

 

There are no optional objectives for this memory. Simply completing this mission will reward you with 100% synchronization.

 

Memory 3 - Laying the First Brick

 

The two optional objectives will only appear once you have entered the underground cave after making your way through the plantation.

 

Perform an air assassination from a height of 10 meters

 

Once you gain control of Adéwalé upon entering the underground cave, equip the hidden blades by pressing :up:. Walk to the right and on the mini map you will see a red triangle indicating the location of an enemy. He will be positioned below you. Stand on near edge and press :square: to perform an air assassination.

 

Push an overseer into the water

 

From the location in which you performed the air assassination, continue to the right towards the wooden boardwalk. Climb up or hand on the edge and an enemy will see you. When he comes over assassinate him by pressing :square: and you will automatically throw him into the water.

 

Memory 4 - A Ship of His Own

 

Use Bastienne's Girls to distract the guards

 

On your mini map you will see a small blue cross hair looking icon. This indicates the location of Bastienne's girls. Simple walk up to them and press :circle: to get them to follow you. Now simply approach a nearby guard and press :l2: when the prompt appears. The girls will distract the guard and will allow you to move around undetected. You only need to do this to one guard in order to unlock the objective.

 

Distract 4 guards with firecrackers

 

You will start the memory with 4 fire crackers. In order to equip them press :right:. To throw them press :triangle:. They have a very small range in which you can throw them so I suggest get up high above guards e.g. on a roof then drop them off the side. It's best to distract groups of enemies as you don't have many firecrackers to play with. It's worth noting that you do not have to kill the guards, they just simply have to be distracted/alerted to the firecrackers when you throw them. The first two guards you distract at the start of the memory as part of the story, do not count towards the 4 required for the objective.

 

Memory 5 - Lifting the veil

 

Note: The following objectives only appear once you have advanced a little into the mission.

 

Kill the overseer who led the slaves

 

Once you gain control of Adéwalé after 'Blending with the other slaves' this objective will appear on your screen. Activate Eagle Site by pressing :l3:. The overseer will appear gold/yellow as opposed to red for all other enemies/guards. He will be located right near the exit of the compound you are currently in. Once he has finished talking with the guard. Once the conversation has finished, follow him and quickly kill him.

 

Liberate slaves from the slaves barracks

 

This objective will begin once you have completed the eavesdropping section of the memory. Before heading back to Bastienne, return to the area in which you started to find 3 guards watching over some slaves. Kill all three to liberate the slaves and complete the objective. You will have to kill all three guards before they have a chance to attack and kill the slaves so remain hidden and assassinate them stealthy.

 

Memory 6 - A scientific inquiry

 

As soon as you start the memory make sure you do not equip any weapon as in order to get 100% synchronization you must not kill any enemies. Using only your fists will result in you knocking enemies out as opposed to killing them. To disarm yourself, simply press :down:. Once you have knocked out a guard, be sure not to press :square: again when they are on the ground, as this will result in you assassinating them.

 

Note: If you knock an enemy out, then this objective will disappear from the list of objectives at the end of the mission as the game will still think you have killed an enemy. To get around this, when you complete one of the other objectives the game will save. Simply reload the checkpoint at this point and the objective will reappear. Thanks to SoPoF for pointing this out.

 

Complete all 5 investigations

 

Although you only need to complete 3 out of 5 investigations to progress the mission, you will need to complete all 5 to get 100% synchronization.

 

Each investigation will require you to activate Eagle Eye when you are close to the yellow magnifying glass icon. If you fail any of the investigations, just press :start: and reload the previous checkpoint. You make a new checkpoint after each investigation so there won't be much backtracking required if you do fail one. The investigations include:

  • Following the thief on the ship and stealing his letter/package by looting his body after knocking him out
  • Steal the key from the jailer and open the slave pen
  • Steal the letter from the letter carrier (easiest done if you don't knock him out as there are a lot of guards in the area so just pickpocket him by holding :circle: near him)
  • Eavesdrop the scientist
  • Find the courier (located just behind the shooting range in the green circle, he is leaning against the building) and chase him down to interrogate him

 

Do not kill anyone while investigating

 

As previously stated, unarm yourself at the beginning of the memory as to avoid killing any enemies. Furthermore, when you knock them out be careful not to press :square: when they are on the ground otherwise you will assassinate them, failing the objective.

 

Note: If you knock an enemy out this objective will disappear from the list of objectives at the end of the mission as the game will still think you have killed an enemy. To get around this, when you complete one of the other objectives the game will save. Simply reload the checkpoint at this point and the objective will reappear. Memory 7 - Plant the seeds

 

Sink the pirate schooners before sinking the brig

 

The schooners are the smaller weaker ships that are trailing the main ship, the brig. There are 6 schooners that must be destroyed before you can start firing at the brig. The schooners can be identified by either looking down the spyglass by holding :r2: or by looking at the health bar of the ship when you are in close range. The health bar will be much smaller then that of the brig. Simply destroy all 6 schooners before taking down the brig.

 

Destroy the pirate flotilla in 5 minutes

 

For this objective you must destroy all 7 ships pursuing the Vautour within 6 minutes. There is no on screen timer so it is hard to know what time you are at. You should have plenty of time so I wouldn't worry to much about this objective.

 

Memory 8 - Down with the ship

 

Take less then 50% damage during the naval fight

 

There are three ships guarding the slave ship in which you must destroy whilst taking less then 50% damage to your own ship. I suggest upgrading the defense and attack of your ship as much as possible before you do this mission as this will greatly help with this objective. Start attacking from a far distance as the enemies ships attack is poor at a far range. Once they star firing at you hold :square: to brace the impact of the canon balls as this will reduce the amount of damage you will take.

 

Liberate 15 slaves

 

Once you have boarded the slave ship head below deck to find numerous groups of chained up slaves. You will need to attack the irons in which bind them in order to free/liberate them. These locations are depicted by a light blue glowing light. The slaves are in groups of 3 and in order to liberate them you will need to correctly execute a short QTE. This will either involve correctly pressing three buttons in a row or simply spamming a single button until the meter is full. Keep moving around the area below deck to find groups of slaves. You will easily have enough time to liberate 15 before the next cutscene triggers.

Memory 9 - de Fayet's last stand

 

Kill 5 guards with the blunderbuss

 

This is very easy to obtain, and I highly suggest you do this objective whilst going for the Firepower trophy. Once inside the compound, de Fayet will start to run. Chase him and pretty much every guard in the game will begin to chase you as well. Simply turn around, hold :l1: to aim the blunderbuss and press :r1: to fire. If you aim in the general direction of the mod of guards in pursuit you will easily unlock this trophy.

 

It's worth noting that in order to satisfy this objective you do not need to kill 5 guards with a single hit, however, you do need to for the Firepower trophy so I suggest doing it at the same time.

 

Kill de Fayet with the branding iron

Kill a guard ringing a bell.

 

This trophy can be unlocked in any area in which there is a bell, such as plantations and de Fayet's compound (large red restricted area at Port-au-Prince. Bells are located on your in game HUD as a small white bell icon. In order for a guard to ring a bell you must first be spotted. A guard will then start running towards the bell to ring it. These individuals can be identified as the ones with a small red bell above their head. Let them get to the bell and ring it a few times before you kill them, as if you attack them to early it will not register and the trophy will not unlock.

Harpoon a killer whale.

 

Killer whales can be found in a couple locations in the game. You will not be able to see its icon on the map until you liberate the plantation at Tortuga (377,371). The killer whale icon will then appear to the west of Tortuga at location 336, 372. When you arrive at the icon you will need to hold :circle: when prompted to begin harpooning. This mini game of sorts is pretty straight forward, simply hold :l1: to aim and press :r1: to throw the harpoon. It will take numerous harpoons to kill the whale.

 

Note that the locations of killer whales differs to that of the main game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, as you do not have access to the entire map of that game in this title.

Swim a total of 1 nmi.

 

This trophy will most probably not come naturally as you play through the main story. As such, you will have to grind it out at some stage, however it will only take about 10-15 minutes of continuous swimming. Simply jump into the ocean after bringing you ship to a stop (pressing :circle:) or from the shore at Port-au-Prince and hold :r1: to swim as fast as you can. Jump keep swimming around wherever you like until the trophy unlocks.

Plunder 30 ships.

 

This may take a while but will most likely unlock through natural gameplay.

 

In order to plunder a ship, you must first weaken it by using your cannons, mortars etc. Once its health has been depleted down to the red zone, approach it and board it by holding :circle:, if you continue to to attack it it will sink and you won't be able to board it. You will then need to defeat a certain number of enemies on board the ship for it to become 'plundered'. The smaller ships will only require you to kill 5 enemies but the much larger ships may require you to kill 15, along with numerous enemy scouts.

 

Just keep attacking any ship you come across in the ocean until you have plundered 30. It's worth upgrading your ship as much as possible, as this will raise both your attack and defense. You can upgrade your ship at any Habourmaster location such as the one at the Maroon hideout (308, 188).

Board a ship without losing any crew members.

 

This trophy can be a little difficult as there is a certain amount of luck involved in unlocking it. Firstly, you must reduce a ships health to the last bar which will then enable you to board it but don't continue to fire your cannons at this point, else you will sink the ship and be prevented boarding it. In order to board it, pull up along side it and hold :circle:. At this point I advise using the swivel gun next to you to fire some shots at the crew on the enemy ship. Once you run out of ammo on the swivel gun, jump over and quickly kill the remaining enemies before your crew has time to board as they often die pretty quickly. You will know if one of your crew members has died as a small notification will pop up on the screen 'crew -1'.

 

For the trophy to count you must board a ship that has a minimum of 10 enemies. You will come across smaller enemy ships that only have 5 enemies, however, if you successfully plunder these ships without losing any crew members you will not unlock the trophy.

Perform 5 air assassinations from a swinging rope.

 

NOTE: Whilst this trophy isn't glitched, the Rope Swinging and Arial Air assassination mechanics are very broken and don't always work the way they're supposed to.

 

Air assassinations from swinging ropes can only be performed when boarding a ship. You must first weaken the ship to within the red zone of its health bar and then pull up alongside to board and hold :circle:. There are 4 ropes on the Experto Crede in which you can use to swing over to the ship in which you are boarding. The ropes are located on either side of the ship at the bow and the stern. To swing from a rope: Press :lsup:+:r2: then almost immediately afterwards, press :square: to leave the rope then :square: again and assassinate the nearest enemy. Before swinging try and align yourself with an enemy on the other ship to make the assassination easier. Once you are swinging watch for the assassination prompt in the top right corner next to the :square: button. Once it appears quickly press :square: to perform an air assassination. Once you have successfully performed 5 air assassination from a swinging rope, the trophy will unlock.

Disarm the Gouverneur and kill him with the branding iron.

 

You can only unlock this trophy in the final memory, Memory 9 - de Fayet's last stand. See below for more details. It is also an additional objective in the same memory that must be completed in order to obtain 100% synchronization.

 

[spoiler=HOM]For this trophy, you must disarm de Fayet and attack him with his own weapon i.e the branding iron. Once you locate him in his compound he will run towards the beach, stay in pursuit along with the numerous guards tailing you until he comes to a stop and starts to fight you. You will need to be unarmed in order to disarm him, as if you have your machete or hidden blades drawn you will only be able to attack and not disarm him. To disarm him, you must counter his attack by pressing :circle: and then press :cross:. Once you have done this, the final cutscene will trigger and the trophy will unlock.

Nice looking guide dcollins. :thumbsup: Might pick this up since it's easy and I do want to try out some of AC4 without having to worry about the online.

Thanks for the guide, made it a lot easier to prep for each mission, though you missed Memory 7 out of the 100% list. It's by no means a difficult set of extra objectives, I got them on my first run.

 

Also, the plundering is getting so freaking boring! I have no idea how many I have left till I hit 30 but I regret leaving this till last. I got maybe 5-15(?) during my exploration after Memory 4 but wish I'd done another 3-5 after each memory to break it up now :(

Great idea to release this as standalone - little AC fix without godawful online.

Shorter so the repetitiveness doesn't sink in too much, great setting too.

Must say the voice acting is surprisingly good. Overall 8/10.

Done this three times unarmed, not attacked anyone. I've tackled the person from the boat and looted him, stole the key from a guard and tackled the guy leaning against the building. Not attacked anyone yet I still can't get it?

 

EDIT - Just watching this, followed it exactly and still nothing.

 

 

This is f'ing stupid, tried it about 10 times different ways, different order, using sleeping darts, not using firecrackers etc.

Are you replaying the mission post game or just dying and retrying from a checkpoint?

 

My advice would be to finish the game and then go back and replay the mission from the beginning. If you are already doing this then I really don't know what has happen, you have come across a glitch!

My advice would be to finish the game and then go back and replay the mission from the beginning. If you are already doing this then I really don't know what has happen, you have come across a glitch!

 

I was replaying the mission. Managed to get it anyway, took 7 or 8 tries and it unlocked. No idea why it wasn't, didn't do anything differently to previous attempts.

Thanks for the guide, it helped a lot!

 

The "kill de Fayet with his branding iron" is easiest done by running right past him, when he stops to fight you, along the shoreline and right to the end of the beach. Only de Fayet and maybe 1 or 2 enemies will follow you to that location instead of needing to kill 10-15 enemies before trying to disarm de Fayet. I tried it twice and it worked both times.

Memory 6 - A scientific inquiry

 

As soon as you start the memory make sure you do not equip any weapon as in order to get 100% synchronization you must not kill any enemies. Using only your fists will result in you knocking enemies out as opposed to killing them. To unarm yourself, simply press :down:. Once you have knocked out

a guard, be sure not to press :square: again when they are on the ground, as this will result in you assassinating them.

 

Do not kill anyone while investigating

 

As previously stated, unarm yourself at the beginning of the memory as to avoid killing any enemies. Furthermore, when you knock them out be careful not to press :square: when they are on the ground otherwise you will assassinate them, failing the objective.

 

It should be pointed out that this doesn't work.

 

If you knock anyone out, it will take the optional objective of not killing anyone off the list and when you finish, it won't count. Even knocking the thief out will result in having killed someone.

 

But I found a way to get around this.

 

Knock people out, make sure to not really kill anyone, so as was suggested here, use the fists. When you fullfill one of the tasks, the game will save and "do not kill anyone" will be off the list. Simply reload the latest checkpoint and it will reappear with the game having forgotten you knocked people out. Finish and it'll say you didn't kill anyone.
