Introduction - Octodad Deadliest catch is a game about an octopus, who no one knows he is one, who tries to maintain a normal human life who struggles dealing with normal everyday tasks....because he's an octopus. The game features crazy physics and an environment where you can nearly interact with everything.

The game can be completed rather quickly and you can earn all the trophies in a single playthrough. If you are attempting one of the trophies and fail to complete its objective, you can restart the checkpoint and try again. Trophies can also be earned during Freeplay. After you complete each level, its Freeplay level becomes available to you. You can earn trophies in local 2-4 player co-op.

Step 1 - Play through story mode earning each of the random trophies along the way

With the exception of two trophies, all the trophies are random things or tasks you can do within each level. None of the trophies are missable and you can go back and play each section in Freeplay if you miss one. If you reach a spot where you need to do something for a trophy requirement and fail to achieve it, you should immediately restart checkpoint.

The trophy list below is the order they appear on your trophy list, but here's the order they appear in the game.

  • Trickshot-gun Wedding
  • The Best Man (same place as the one above)
  • Smokey the Dad
  • The Secret Gardener
  • Trim Your Moustache
  • Secret Shopper
  • Person-al Shopper (same place as the one above)
  • No Cutsies

The Aquarium has three areas that you need to go to and each area can be done in any order

World of Kelp

  • Head Otter

The Deep Sea

  • Dancing in the Dark
  • Secrets of the Deep
  • Stairs with Attitude

Amazon Arcade

  • Dunk Tank

  • Band of Blubbers
  • Oh Captain, My Captain
  • Au Naturel (Story related)
  • Stay True to Yourself
  • Poor Workplace Etiquette (Occurs while working on previous one)
  • Independent Woman
  • World's Best Dad

Step 2 - Use Freeplay to select any level that you missed a trophy on

After each level you have completed, you are granted access to it in Freeplay. Select any level that you missed a trophy on and go back and get them.

Throw the ring onto Scarlet's finger from a distance.

You can get this in the first chapter, "Wedding Bells" and at the same time as The Best Man trophy. You need to get the ring from the box just to the right of the alter. You need to throw the ring onto your bride to be instead of placing it on her hand naturally. In order to do this, you'll need to stand far enough away that when you reach forward you don't manually place the ring on her finger. To throw the ring, use the left stick and pull in back and push it forward and press :r1: to release it. It'll take a small movement without much force. This may take many attempts to get the ring to land on her finger. I recommend watching the video to get an idea of how close you can get before it's to close

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/586.jpg The Best Man (B)

Get married with the best man on the alter.

This is earned at the same place as Trickshot-gun Wedding in the Wedding Bells chapter. You need to place the best man on the alter and he must be there when you place the ring on her finger. The best man is a fish and can be found in the pews on the right side. If you put him on the alter but don't put the ring on right away, eventually he will flop off the alter and you'll need to pick him up and place him back on the altar before putting the ring on.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/b82.jpg Trim Your Moustache (B)

Get Sucked into the riding mower.

After finishing all the backyard chores in "Home, Sweet Home," you will be given one last one. That is to re-hang the birdhouse. If you hang the birdhouse normally, you will not be sucked into the mower. For this trophy, you need to throw the birdhouse on the hook from a distance. This one will take several trial and error attempts but once you throw the birdhouse on the hook, you will get the trophy.

Orange no-thumbs are the new green thumbs.

Once you are in the backyard in "Home, Sweet Home," you will be tasked with some chores. One of them will to be pull the weeds in the garden. You must pull all 6 of them without stepping on any of the flowers. This is much trickier than it appears because even if you are standing on the stone path in the garden, Octodad will waver back and forth and can ruin the flowers. I recommend not reaching far into the garden from the stone path and get close before reaching for the weeds.

Only you can prevent forest fires.

At the beginning of the second chapter, "Home, Sweet Home," you will need to get make coffee, bring milk to Stacy and then grab your cup of coffee before needing to head to the backyard. At some point before heading outside, grab the burning log in the fireplace in the kitchen and place it in the sink.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/3bd.jpg Secret Shopper (B)

Get the Sports Johnson cereal before the lady puts it in her cart.

The Cereal box in in the center aisle of the third level called "Gervason's Grocery," However, if you go down the center aisle a cut-scene will occur and the lady shopper will grab it. To grab it before her, you need to go down the left aisle (frozen food section) and climb up to the top of the shelves and reach over and grab the box without stepping into the center aisle.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/9f0.jpg Person-al Shopper (B)

Help all of the shoppers fill their carts.

This is also earned during the "Gervason's Grocery" level. You simply need to grab one grocery item and put it in all the shoppers carts. There are a couple that will path, so if you stand in front of them it will stop their movement allowing you time to place an item in the cart. You also need to do it with the cereal lady in the center aisle. Since her cart has items in it, grab something small. I found that placing a large item on top of everything didn't trigger the trophy right away.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/9c8.jpg Oh Captain, My Captain (B)

Visit with several of your crewmen while dressed as the captain.

You will need to go into the Captains Quarters and put on his uniform during the Sea Legs level. After doing that, before heading to the front of the ship, head back and talk to the crew where you swabbed the deck and raised the anchor. There will be four crewman here. Make sure to initiate a conversation that addresses you directly, and not a side conversation between two of them. After you have visited with each of them, you will need to walk across the beam and talk to the guy you stole the coffee from in the previous section.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/866.jpg Band of Blubbers (B)

Rescue five of your brethren from an awful fate.

In the "Sea Legs" chapter, you just simply need to grab five fish laying around and throw them overboard. There will be enough in the first area, but if for some reason the trophy doesn't pop, there are plenty more around the ship

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/50c.jpg Head Otter (B)

Wear the sea otter head.

This is in the "World of Kelp" level inside the Aquatic Fun Center. You need to do some kelp related mini games and in the final section, you will need to control an otter and block the kelp coming at you (think soccer goalie). After that is over, simply grab the head of the otter you were controlling and put in on yourself.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/463.jpg Dunk Tank (B)

Come on and slam and welcome to the Amazon.

In the "Amazon Arcade" area of the Aquatic Fun Center, you will need to get 7 prizes for Scarlet. After you complete that, there will be a crack in a nearby tank. Before going to it, grab a basketball from the basketball game in the games area and use that to block the hole.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/10a.jpg Stay True to Yourself (B)

Sneak to the cafeteria without the use of a disguise.

There's two sections to this in the "Silent but Deadly" chapter. The first section is at the beginning after you open the gift shop gate and then another one after exiting the Men's bathroom. The first section will require you to place a barrier between the two guys near the beginning so you can sneak to the bathroom without the guy on the left seeing you and the second section where you have to make your way to the cafeteria itself will require you to take the right path and sneak past the first couple guys.

You can do that easily by first jumping over the balcony and walk past the first pathing guard when his back is turned. The next one has a nearby chain tied to a crate that you can pull the chain and move the box in front of the guy. You may want to mop up the water on the floor first. After that, just wait until the one near the stairs has his back turned and just make a run for it.

Alternatively, if you play this on easy difficulty, you can just run past everyone without any worry of being spotted.

Note Between the two sections that are part of the requirement for this trophy will be a break room where you will want to earn Poor Workplace Etiquette.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/819.jpg Poor Workplace Etiquette (B)

Go the extra mile in ruining the break room (and Joe's reputation.

During the "Silent but Deadly" chapter, you will find yourself in the break room where you need to set off the smoke detector. You only need to do it with one of the three items to progress the story, but if you do it with all three, you will get the trophy. The three items are

  1. The stove - Place food on a burner and turn on the burner. If you see it start smoking (assuming it's not your tentacle burning), you've done it correctly
  2. The portable counter top grill - Open it up and place food on it. Again, watch out for your tentacle, that doesn't count.
  3. The microwave - Open it up and put food in there and then close the door.

Once you've done these three things, you will earn the trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/db2.jpg Dancing in the Dark (B)

Complete the Deep Sea dance challenge without missing a step.

This is as soon as you enter "The Deep Sea" level. You will have a dancing mini game where you simply need to step on each of the squares before the timer runs out. You will need to be quick as multiple ones will start appearing after a bit. Having mastered the control of Octodad's legs will make this easier. Just make sure to keep alternating your tentacle legs. You do not have to fully stand on each square, you just need to touch each one with a leg.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/bba.jpg Secrets of the Deep. (B)

Reveal the pride of the aquarium's jellyfish collection

After acquiring the shake lantern in "The Deep Sea", you will eventually come up to a biologist with a flash light at the bottom of an escalator and are instructed to give the lantern to Stacy. Before doing so, there is a dark area at the end of the hall from which you just came from. Shine the light all over this area to reveal the jellyfish collection and the trophy

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/deb.jpg Stairs with Attitude. (B)

Climb the escalators in less than 30 seconds.

This is much more difficult than it sounds. There are two sets of escalators and the end of "The Deep Sea" level and naturally, they are heading the wrong way. You need to quickly climb up two sets of them and hit the button at the top of each one. The second set is a much quicker moving escalator and you will need to have a good rhythm and control of Octodad. Make very long, but quick alternating steps. Make sure to keep alternating your feet because it gets tough to keep track off. This may require some practice.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/201.jpg No Cutsies. (B)

We have rules for a reason.

As soon as you start the "Aquatic Fun Center" level, you will get a coupon from Scarlet and need to take it to the ticket booth. There is a roped off line with some people in it. You simply need to enter the line and wait for all the people ahead of you to get their ticket first. You will fail this if you knock over the line in any major way that interferes with the patrons in line. It's ok to lightly knock something, but if one of the people in line say something, you will need to restart. You can just hang back and wait for everyone to leave and then you won't have to worry about cutting in line.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2256/f97.jpg Independent Woman. (B)

Scarlet plugs the cafeteria fountain spouts without your help.

This is during the final level in the game, "Hot Concessions," at the final section with the Chef. You need to place the fish heads Scarlet throws at you on each of the three fountain spouts. You're suppose to pick them up yourself and plug it, but in order to have Scarlet do it, you will need to stand right in front of each of the spouts while keeping it between you and Scarlet. Stand about 3-5 feet back from the spouts. Each of the fish head plugs that she's throws will end up plugging the fountain if you're in the right spot. Do that for each of the three.

Nothing left to hide.

This trophy is story related and can't be missed. It will pop after the water section with the shark.

Beat the game.

Story related, can't be missed. This will pop once you have beaten the game on any difficulty

Good job getting this up so fast Wozamil. :D Guess I know what I'm doing after work today then.

Just a question from looking at the list is the elevator trophy the hardest one to get? :p I've seen a couple playthroughs of the game and the elevator part looked like the part that gives people the most trouble.

Yes, the escalator one is definitely going to be the most frustrating one. I don't think I embedded the video yet, but I show what happens to most people and then what it looks like when you get the trophy. But in the end, it's really about just keep practicing.

Nice guide!

The Secrets of the Deep video is still private...

That was intentional. Since there are so many of them, I upload, but don't make them public right away. That's to avoid spamming my subscribers feeds. When I upload a bunch, I lose a few hundred subscribers. Just trying to mitigate that by spreading them out.

Why not just leave them unlisted for however long? That should still allow embedding shouldn't it? And it won't cause them to show up on their video feed (though it sounds a little stupid that people unsub from you just because you uploaded a bunch of stuff at once, when they're subbed to a channel that posts guides.)

Thanks for the guide, just finished 100%-ing the game. Took me just under 2 hours!

The elevator wasn't terribly difficult. Only took me a couple tries. In all honesty "Stay True to Yourself" was probably the most difficult, only because I wasn't playing on easy. Everything else was pretty simple! (although without the guide it would have been slightly more difficult).

I'll say again, great guide Woz. :) Worked great for everything. I did actually have the most trouble tossing that damn ring on my wife's hand more than anything else. xD Somehow managed fasted current completion time too. :p

Damn, 1 hour 45 minutes!! You miss out on all the fun things you can do in the game, like getting one of those fire hydrants on the wall, or flushing yourself down the toilet......

I was the longest to 100% but I was the first (unless someone is going to ninja sync on me).....so the tortoise did beat the hare :p

I'll probably go back and screw around with it more later. :p Just wanted to get it done to have that time. :francis: It's too bad there wasn't a trophy for finding ties solely for the fact that it would require people to play the game longer.

Awesome guide! Thanks so much!

I just wish they kept all the Steam Achievements in tact and the game had a Platinum Trophy. Master Reboot & Resogun have Plats. Something is definitely off with Sony's trophy certifications, especially if Octodad, MGSV and Trials Fusion weren't granted Plats. There isn't even a trophy for collecting all the ties hidden in the game.

In case anyone doesn't know... This is what the dev said about it...

Octodad: Dadliest Catch trophies released : PS4

[–]luthyr (Young Horses) 1 point 8 days ago

Platinum is reserved for larger games. We chose all bronze trophies since we had a large number of achievements for Steam and wanted to transfer as many as we could. To do that, we had to choose all bronze since there is a limit on the total 'value' of trophies we can have.
