Introduction:

es·cha·tol·o·gy

noun \ˌes-kə-ˈtä-lə-jē\

A branch of theology concerned with the final events in the history of the world or of humankind.

Atelier Escha & Logy ~Alchemists of Dusk Sky~ is the second Atelier game in the Dusk saga, taking place immediately after Atelier Ayesha. For the first time in the Atelier franchise, you'll get to play with two protagonists, who as the name implies, are Escha and Logy. This doesn't change much however, as each character's playthrough are more or less the same, just from a different point of view.

Trophy-wise, Atelier Escha & Logy is by far the easiest of the Atelier games, as many things have been simplified. The only requirements for unlocking character events is having that character active in your party, and all events appear on your map/fast travel with a red !, as well as a picture of the character's face if the event is related to a certain playable character (NPCs don't have their face displayed). This means you can meet most requirements simply by actively playing and exploring, and using your entire party. The game will require two playthroughs, however there is NG+ which will allow you to carry Cole and equipment, making NG+ considerably easier than your first playthrough.

http://i.imgur.com/aMCxc1j.png

Step 1: Playthrough 1 - Complete the game with Escha, using mainly female party members.

For your first playthrough, use the main character of your choice, which I'll assume will be Escha for the sake of this guide. Always use female party members in your party when possible, as all characters have a hidden friendship level that only increases when in your party (moreso when in the front line), which is required to unlock character events. On top of this, there's an ending - Girls' Association - for seeing all female character events with Escha. Therefore, you'll want to see all the character events for Lucille, Linca and Threia. You can of course use the male characters if you so desire, as this will allow you to get their events and ultimately their endings this playthrough, but you'll need to use them during Logy's playthrough for the Men's Association ending regardless. Whether you decide to only use females or to use both, cycle out your main party every time you leave Colseit, and always leave Logy in reserves (except for boss battles).

Make sure to always view any available events (indicated by a red !) and always try to complete all your tasks before reporting your assignment at the end of each quarter. You should also prioritise the primary task assigned by Marion before working on the others. This is because any character events you unlock won't be available for viewing until you're in Free Time. This means that the sooner you complete Marion's task and enter into Free Time, the more time you'll have to view any character events that have backlogged. As long as you keep the few aforementioned points in mind, you should get everything required of Escha's playthrough simply by playing through the story, fully exploring each dungeon and viewing any events when possible.

When in the final dungeon and you're given the opportunity to destroy the coloured honeycombs, do not destroy them. Doing this will make the last boss stronger for each honeycomb you destroy, which is necessary for a gold trophy, however this is recommended for NG+ when you have stronger gear and items.

In order to get all the ending trophies available to you, make a save right at the end of the game (when the Days Left counter is almost empty), then cycle through the options in the final scene. Please see the respective ending trophies for details.

When you finish the game, you'll be able to make a Clear Save to enter NG+. NG+ will allow you to keep all your Cole, synthesis skills, as well as any Adventure/Battle Equipment your party has equipped (Adventure Equipment can be reacquired from Assignment 5 onwards - costs 100,000 Cole). Therefore it is recommend you equip all your best gear onto your party members before you finish the game, as well as sell everything in your container for a Cole boost. By doing this, you should have more than enough Cole at the start of NG+ to breeze through, plus you should have end-game (or close to end-game) gear equipped on everyone and good items available for Escha and Logy once you reach Assignment 5. It is recommended you have at least one Knowledge Book equipped in Escha's inventory, as this is her end-game item that can only be synthesised during her playthrough. Having a few will help for the ultimate version of the final boss that you'll need to fight for a trophy during NG+.

Step 2: Playthrough 2 - Complete NG+ with Logy, using mainly male party members.

Now that you're in NG+, you can focus on getting the remaining trophies done. This time you'll want to focus on using Awin and Reyfer to get their events out of the way for Men's Association. Other than that, simply play through the game normally. In Assignment 5, when you're given the opportunity to purchase experiments from Marion, you'll be able to purchase one called Imaginary World for 100,000 Cole, which will give you all the Search Equipment you had equipped on Escha and Logy at the end of your first playthrough.

Once you've completed Assignment 9 and have a full year to search the Unexplored Ruins and complete miscellaneous tasks, you'll want to start grinding your Alchemy and Combat Levels to 50 and 99, respectively. You'll need these for two trophies, plus the increased stats will be helpful for the fight against Ultimate Flameu. You'll also want to try and create high-end weapons, armours and accessories for all your characters if you haven't done so already, as well as usable items - particularly Logy's ultimate item, Tauzent Blitz. Our Tips and Tricks section will provide all necessary information regarding ultimate gear/items, and similar information. You'll also want to defeat the Dragon King who appears in Dragon's Nest if you haven't done so already. You can try and complete all the tasks if you desire, but it isn't necessary.

With everything else done and dusted, your only tasks now will be actually defeating Ultimate Flameu and getting the last of the endings. See the respective trophies for details.

Upon completing Step 2, you will earn:

You'll receive this during the prologue. When you get back from Apple Orchard, you will be shown to your new Atelier by Marion. You will unlock the trophy as the related CG scene appears.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/7D2.jpg Just Getting Started (B)

Cleared and reported 1st term assignment.

Term Assignments:

To earn these term assignment related trophies, you have to complete your main/largest task for the assignment and then report to Marion. As mentioned in the Road Map, the sooner you are done with your main task, the more Free Time you will have to work on other, smaller tasks, level up your Combat or Alchemy skills and most importantly view character events.

To actually start your next assignment, you have to make your Final Report in the final 2 weeks. Making your Final Report earlier or later than the season's end have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you wait until the last day, you can continue working on other stuff and keep completing Requests for various benefits. On the other hand, if you complete it as soon as you enter the time frame for your Final Report, all remaining days will add up to the duration for your next assignment, but any unfinished smaller tasks and Requests will be cancelled. Waiting until the last day is usually better, but it's up to you to decide whichever is best for you. You will get an opportunity to complete any tasks you miss after you finish Assignment 9.

For your 1st term assignment, you'll be asked to deliver Windmill Parts to Clone at Apple Orchard. Gather all necessary ingredients at Twilight Forest and synthesise the parts. You'll unlock the trophy when you deliver them to Clone and make your report for Marion. It's all part of the tutorial, so unless you waste your time deliberately, this trophy is pretty much unmissable.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/2C2.jpg You've Got the Hang of It (B)

Cleared and reported 2nd term assignment.

For your 2nd term assignment, you'll be asked to explore Southern Ruins and find the researcher, who was sent from Central City. When you enter Southern Ruins, continue as normal and in Sector One, you will watch a cutscene. Choose "It's the girl." and continue exploring each new section. The last section will be blocked by a large boulder but if you have any Bombs with you, you can use those and clear the path. Enter that last section, after that you can go back to town to report your findings to Marion and earn the trophy.

For a description of term assignments, please see Just Getting Started.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/853.jpg Journey through the Sky (B)(H)

Acquired a worn down air balloon. You became an alchemist of the sky...maybe.

After you clear your 2nd term assignment and enter Free Time, Awin will show up in your Atelier in a few days and take you to Balloon Docks for a surprise. Simply enjoy the scene and beautiful music as you unlock the trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/0BA.jpg The Charm (B)

Cleared and reported 3rd term assignment.

You will be sent up north to Withering Plains for your 3rd term assignment. When you eventually reach Frontier Village, you will watch a cutscene and get the next part of your assignment, along with an alchemy recipe. Go back to your Atelier, Synthesize a Purify Bottle and 10 (Food) items or 2 Apple Tarts. At this point in the game, Apple Tarts should be a lot easier and quicker for you to make. Bring those items back to the Frontier Village and report to Marion to successfully complete your main task.

For a description of term assignments, please see Just Getting Started.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/EB6.jpg A Behemoth Falls (B)(H)

Eliminated the behemoth living at the water spring.

For this, you must defeat the Rampage Beast you encounter during Assignment 4. It is Lv 25 and has 1,700 HP, so will be your toughest opponent so far. In all honesty you shouldn't have too many problems with this battle, as long as you have a few decent attack items on your MC like Ice Bomb and Lightning Bomb, as well as a healing item or two. Use items with your MC, and skills with your party members. If you manage to build your Support Bar above 3, then use support attacks and try to use a support special by getting the Damage Rate above 200%.

Once you defeat it, you'll get this trophy along with one of the six lithograph pieces.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/A94.jpg Going Forth (B)

Cleared and reported 4th term assignment.

For your 4th assignment, you'll need to investigate the water source at Abandoned River. Advance through the area until you arrive at Forest River Source, where you'll face the first boss of the game: Rampage Beast (see A Behemoth Falls for details). After defeating it, continue advancing until you arrive at River Waterfall, where your task will be completed. Report back to Marion to complete the assignment.

For a description of term assignments, please see Just Getting Started.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/9A7.jpg Powerup Meeting (B)(H)

Planned for the future with the development team.

As soon as you report Assignment 4 to Marion, you should get a scene and this trophy. Linca will join your party immediately after.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/BF7.jpg Fortress Destroyed (B)(H)

Destroyed the Slag guarding the ruins interior.

For this, you must defeat Frigate at the end of Slag Graveyard, in the Graveyard Core. You'll be able to face him whilst doing Assignment 5. Frigate is Lv 30 and has 2,500 HP, but shouldn't pose too big a threat. Use similar tactics to what you did with Rampage Beast, and use Linca in your front line as she is very strong compared to the rest of your party. If your second MC has been in reserve, you may want to bring them back out for the battle. The recommended level is 30+, mostly because of the Special Attack skills you unlock when you hit level 30. If you didn't waste your time by doing nothing and wandering aimlessly, you should have some decent gear for the fight.

Synthesize an Omega Craft with Thorn Strike, Shredding Thorns or higher, All Stats Down L (important) and try to stick properties like (Very) Destructive, Critical(+) and other damage boosters. You might want to consider switching to Logy for this fight if your MC is Escha and equip him with his exclusive Adventure Equipment Flava and Guryun Blitz. Frigate is weak against Wind and Water elements. They can deal massive damage if you were able to Synth some with Critical+, Destructive+, Single Target etc. damage properties.

When you are ready for the fight, start with an Omega Craft to lower all its base attributes and, in most cases, stick some useful status ailments. Then use everything you have on it. Use your Special Attack skills to deal massive damage when it's completely filled, especially if you can store some Support points along with it and activate the attack with an increased Damage Boost.

Once you defeat it, you'll get this trophy along with one of the six lithograph pieces.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/FD9.jpg Oh (B)

You're Halfway There

You'll be sent west to the Slag Graveyard for your 5th assignment, where you must investigate. Head to the Graveyard Entrance for a scene, then you'll have to investigate Large Corridor, Disposal Area and Graveyard Depths. You'll complete your task after visiting these three areas, but before you leave, make sure to visit Graveyard Core and defeat the boss, Frigate (see Fortress Destroyed for details). Once you're done at the Slag Graveyard, report back to Marion.

For a description of term assignments, please see Just Getting Started.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/47B.jpg Moving Right Along (B)

Cleared and reported 6th term assignment.

For your 6th assignment, you'll need to save the orchard. Head to the Apple Orchard for a scene, then head to your Atelier and synthesise Plant Nutrients and Fertilizer. Return to Faul to deliver these and you'll be free to report to Marion. Very simple.

You'll have an opportunity to grab one of the six lithograph pieces from Assignment 6 onwards too, in Withering Plains - Village Well. During Assignment 6, you'll have a "Visit Abandoned Village" task. Head to Village Warehouse, then travel to Village Well where you can now enter the Well. Head into the second area to find the piece.

For a description of term assignments, please see Just Getting Started.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/65D.jpg Flying Further (B)(H)

Built a basic airship.

Missable.

After completing Assignment 4, there'll be an event at Balloon Docks with Awin, Escha and Logy discussing the possibility of building a Dreadnaught to travel to the Unexplored Ruins. After this scene, deliver 10 (Wood) to Awin - you can purchase Eiche from Duke and use that. After another scene, a new event will be available at Urban Area. Here Katla will offer you an old reference book for the staggering price of 100,000 Cole. If you can somehow afford it at this price, you'll receive the book along with two accessories and a Dunkelheit. More than likely you won't be able to afford it, in which case you can simply wait for another event to appear at Urban Area where Katla will offer it to you for 50,000 Cole - buying this will get you the book and the two accessories. Turning it down will eventually lead to a third event at Urban Area, where Katla will finally offer it a decent price of 2,000 Cole for the book alone. It's best to wait until now to purchase it at a reasonable price. If you don't buy it now however, Harry will give it to you for free further down the track at the start of Assignment 6.

Once you have the Dog-Eared Book, you'll learn the recipe for the Flight Gas Jar, the second item required for making your basic airship. Whether you buy the book from Katla or receive it from Harry, you won't be able to make this until Assignment 6, as it requires Buoyant Gas x2, which is first available in Searing Wastes. Once you acquire the Buoyant Gas, make yourself a Flight Gas Jar and you'll receive this trophy after a scene.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/02C.jpg Future Dreams (B)(H)

Logy retook his dreams with Escha's support.

Missable.

A few days after making the Flight Gas Jar and receiving your basic airship, you should get a scene at the Atelier, along with this trophy. After the event, you'll also receive the Double Draw ability for Escha and Logy, which allows them to both use items through support attacks for massive damage. If you leave Colseit to travel immediately after making the Flight Gas Jar, you will miss this trophy, as well as potentially one of Awin's events.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/DFB.jpg Making Progress (B)

Cleared and reported 7th term assignment.

You'll need to slay a Giant Slag in the Southern Ruins for your 7th assignment. Head through the new areas to Crumbling Altar and you'll have to beat your next boss, Tank (Lv 35). As its name implies, Tank has a lot of HP (5,000) and decent defense, plus can deal decent damage, so make sure you have a few healing items. Use both alchemists along with Linca, and take advantage of Double Down to deal big damage with with items like Eis Ice Bomb and Dream Book. After you defeat Tank, grab the nearby lithograph piece and then return to Marion to complete your assignment.

For a description of term assignments, please see Just Getting Started.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/9BC.jpg Into the Dusk Sky (B)(H)

Completed a true airship.

Missable.

Shortly after making your basic airship, you'll have to create an engine and framework for your Dreadnaught. There'll be an event at Balloon Docks about using magic to control the engine. After this there'll be an event at Urban Area with Wilbell, who suggests visiting the Fire Lord to obtain appropriate materials for the engine. Head to Searing Wastes where a new point will have opened: Fountain of Flame. Enter the area for a scene with the angry Fire Lord. Head back to Colseit for a scene with Wilbell at Urban Area to receive a recipe for a Spirit Gem, which you should be able to synthesise immediately. Create one, then return to Searing Wastes - Fountain of Flame. The Fire Lord will reward you for returning her Spirit Gem by giving you Fire Lord's Bless, and Logy will develop a recipe for Automatic Drive and 3rd Gen Engine. Unfortunately you won't have the parts for either item yet, so you'll have to wait for Assignment 8.

Once Assignment 7 starts, there'll be an event available at Administration Office that mentions a metal-eating dragon. Head to Dragon's Fist Tavern and Duke will tell you about the metal-eating dragon's nest, unlocking a new location as a result. Before you go there, view the scene at the Hall to receive a recipe for Slumber Incense. Synthesise the Slumber Incense, then head to Dragon's Nest (bring some bombs to destroy boulders). Move through the areas and make sure to search Dragon's Left Wing for one of the five lithograph pieces. Head to Dragon's Head and you'll get the option of scaring off the Dragon with the incense, or fighting it. Fighting it doesn't change anything, just grants you extra EXP and loot. He's quite strong, but it's definitely possible to beat him. After defeating/scaring off the dragon and getting the rare metals, search the gather points and ensure you get at least one Diamond Gemstone, then return to Colseit for another scene and new recipe. Synthesise the Einzel Steel.

Now you'll need to obtain the ingredients required to make the Automatic Drive and 3rd Gen Engine from earlier. Once you reach Assignment 8, buy the Golden Fleece book from Nio for the Moon Tablet recipe. Head out to Lab of Eternity and fight some Black Boxes to obtain 2 Empty Cores. With them in hand, return to Colseit and synthesise an Automatic Drive and Moon Tablet, then synthesise a 3rd Gen Engine with those items.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/EDD.jpg So Close (B)

Cleared and reported 8th term assignment.

For your 8th assignment, you'll be tasked with investigating the Underground Research Facility. Head out to Lab of Eternity and view the scene at the Entrance. Keep moving through the areas until you arrive at Herb Garden, where you'll get another scene. Report back to Marion to complete your assignment.

For a description of term assignments, please see Just Getting Started.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/1B3.jpg Terminal Term (B)

Cleared and reported 9th term assignment.

For your final assignment, you'll need to prepare items for the Central City survey teams' investigation. You'll receive a new recipe to make Canned Food. To complete the assignment, deliver either 30 (Food) or 4 Canned Food to a Homunculus. The fastest way to do this is to simply synthesise Canned Food, and use the synthesis skills Quantity Lv1 and Quantity Lv2 (3 Earth Points and 5 Earth Points, respectively). This will give you 4 Canned Food, enough to complete the assignment in a single synthesis. Deliver the food and report to Marion.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/5A4.jpg Guardian of Unexplored Ruins (S)(H)

Defeated the giant alchemic creature in the Unexplored Ruins

Missable.

After reporting Assignment 9 and starting Year 4, you'll unlock Unexplored Ruins to, well, explore. Head there and view an awesome scene, then progress through the areas. In the third area you'll encounter Dragoon. Dragoon is Lv 42 and has 10,000 HP. Frankly this should be a non-issue at this stage of the game. You should have your MC's end-game unique item available by this point (Knowledge Book for Escha, Tauzent Blitz for Logy), so having one in your inventory will make a world of difference. Use the aforementioned item as the second item in a Double Draw, and build your Damage Rate to 200% to use Double Draw II. Doing this should be enough to practically defeat Dragoon in a single hit. Once you defeat Dragoon - whether by Double Drawing or by other means - you'll recieve a recipe for the final-tiered armors.

Continue moving through Unexplored Ruins to the fifth area, where you'll face the second last boss of the game: Gullveig. Gullveig is Lv 45 and has 25,000 HP, and is often the point where difficulty spikes for most players. He'll cast field effects through the battle that will weaken stats for you and strengthen stats for him. Once he gets down to about 10-20% HP, he'll start attacking three times in a row, as well as heal 1,000 HP every turn. Because of this, you'll need the ability to deal decent damage (at least 5,000 damage) in a single combo, otherwise Gullveig will simply heal too much.

Learning to fully utilise your support attacks is key for this battle and any other tough fights. Essentially, you want get your SP to at least 3, then use Double Draw with your alchemists. Select your attack items and have the strongest attack item (like Knowledge Book or Tauzent Blitz) as the second item. Then start using the support attacks of your teammates except Threia to increase the Damage Rate to 200%, then use Threia's Catastrophe support special. This'll push the Damage Rate above 300%, as well as lower all stats on Gullveig. After Catastrophe, use Double Draw II to deal the maximum damage. With the right gear and properties, dealing 30,000+ damage in a single combo with Knowledge Book and/or Tauzent Blitz isn't unlikely. Other than using Double Draw, simply utilise healing/support items to get through the battle. After defeating Gullveig, you'll receive a recipe for the final-tiered weapons along with this trophy. This will also satisfy the ending requirements for the normal ending.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/712.jpg Salvation (S)(H)

Saved the girl's soul bound to Geosis.

Missable.

After you defeat Gullveig at Unexplored Ruins, you'll leave the area and witness yet another awesome scene. Once you return to Colseit and watch the available scenes, you'll eventually be able to access the final dungeon of the game: Fallen Ruins. Head to Fallen Ruins and progress through until you find the first of four coloured honeycombs. You'll be given the choice of ignoring or destroying the honeycomb - destroying the honeycomb will strengthen the last boss, so don't break it! Continue moving through the areas and ignore the honeycombs. Once you reach the final area, you'll be greeted by Flameu - the final boss.

If you didn't destroy any honeycombs, Flameu will be Lv 50 with 30,000 HP. Flameu is unique in that she'll go through four stages in the battle, based on her HP percentage. These stages are the four seasons - Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. During each stage, she'll summon a timed attackthat will last throughout the battle, which can be quite damaging if she gets all timed attacks on the field simultaneously. She can also deal some fairly decent damage, as well as heal herself through attacks. The normal version of Flameu isn't too much of a hassle, especially if you have some of the ultimate gear and items recommended in the Tips and Tricks section. Utilising the Double Draw combo also listed in the Tips and Tricks section will allow you to deal damage quickly, effectively making it possible to skip entire stages, meaning you won't have as many timed attacks on the field simultaneously. Her last stage - Winter - is by far her toughest, but as long as you keep Double Drawing, buffing and healing, you shouldn't really struggle here whatsoever. You can quite easily defeat her with a single Double Draw combo if done with sufficient gear and items. Once you defeat her, this trophy is yours.

Below is a video by MasterLL of GameFAQs demonstrating the effectiveness of Double Draw against Flameu with good gear. The video is in Japanese, however.

Character Events:

All characters - both playable and NPC - have character events and a trophy related to them. For playable characters, you will unlock events by having them in your party as you travel and fight (particularly when they are in the front line). For NPCs, their events will unlock by simply progressing through the Assignments and story. Playable characters (Awin, Threia, Reyfer, Lucille, Linca) will have a picture of their head next to a red !, whereas all other events will just be the red !. These are potentially missable if you don't actively change your party members around or don't actively view every event when they appear. I managed to miss two NPC trophies by failing to view two events when they were available. However as long as you view any when you see them (check your fast-travel menu everytime you enter Colseit or synthesise), you shouldn't miss any.

Some events will only appear a set period of time after the prior event, which can be anywhere between a day and several months. We haven't ascertained all the specific time frames between events, but don't be too concerned if an event doesn't appear immediately. As long as you get one within the same Assignment as they are listed, then you should be okay. Lastly, each event states the location and assignment they're found in. The assignment is only when it first appears, some will still appear in assignments beyond that. "Post-Game" refers to the year available after completing Assignment 9.

For this trophy, you must complete all of Awin's events. Awin's events will be depicted by a picture of his face when looking in the fast-travel menu.

[spoiler=ttwe]Awin's Events:

Gathered lithograph fragments.

There are six lithograph pieces throughout the game that will grant you a few scenes by collecting them. Strangely enough, you only need to collect five of the six for the trophy. Three are obtained after boss fights, while three are found in standard areas. Two of those three can be easily missed however. Below are the six locations:

  • Abandoned River - Forest River Source (defeat Rampage Beast in Assignment 4 - unmissable)
  • Slag Graveyard - Graveyard Core (defeat Frigate in Assignment 5)
  • Withering Plains - Village Well (During Assignment 6, you'll have a "Visit Abandoned Village" task. Head to Village Warehouse, then travel to Village Well where you can now enter the Well. Head into the second area to find the piece)
  • Southern Ruins - Crumbling Altar (defeat Tank in Assignment 7 - unmissable)
  • Dragon's Nest - Dragon's Left Wing (area before facing/scaring off Goltessen the Metal-Eating Dragon, available in Assignment 7)
  • Western Reaches - Structure - Upper (Western Reaches unlocked through Awin's events)

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/2147/6C2.jpg Leave the Battles to Me (B)(H)

Reached combat level 99. Are there any worthy foes left?

Grinding to combat level 99 will take you a while, as it won't come naturally. It's recommended you do this during NG+, as you'll likely be facing Ultimate Flameu during NG+ for the A Grand Triumph trophy, so the added stats may help. Make sure to purchase the Basic Combat, Ground Combat and Aerial Combat experiments from Marion when they become available (for 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 Cole, respectively) to increase your earned EXP. You won't be able to go above Level 50 until after you complete Assignment 9, at which point you can increase the level cap by buying further experiments from Marion. Adv Study will increase the level cap from 50 to 60, for 10,000 Cole. Adv Research will increase the level cap from 60 to 75, for 20,000 Cole. Adv Analysis will increase the level cap from 75 to 99, for 30,000 Cole. With the level caps and increased EXP experiments, the last thing you'll want to do before you start grinding is synthesise the Tarot of Fate accessory for everyone in your party, ensuring you get the Sage Talisman trait (80 Wind Element). Sage Talisman increases EXP gained even further.

With all the necessary EXP and level cap boosts, head to Dragon's Nest. This place is the fastest area for levelling. Once there, head to Dragon's Right Wing and get the field event bar to 100%, then select the Battle Change field event to increase EXP gained even further. Then head to Dragon's Body and kill/gather until the event bar reaches 100% again and use the Strong Foe field event. Select the Hopeless tier enemy, who should be either a Lv 75, 77 or 79 strong enemy. Defeat the enemy (which assuming you have some of the gear listed in Tips and Tricks should be easily doable with a single Double Draw combo) and you should receive between 8,000-13,000 EXP, depending on which strong enemy you face. The Lv 75 strong enemy is the best for EXP, as it can spawn with up to two other enemies, thus increasing the EXP. Repeat this process of building the field event bar to 100% and facing Strong Foes ad naeseum, returning to Colseit whenever you need to restock you adventure equipment, or empty your basket. Grinding like this should get you to combat level 99 within a few hours, assuming you levelled at a steady pace throughout the game.

Reached alchemy level 50. You're now an expert!

Reaching alchemy level 50 may come naturally, but it also may not. Make sure to purchase the Alchemy Research, 4-Ele Research and 5-Ele Research experiments from Marion when they become available (for 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 Cole, respectively) to increase your synthesis EXP. Purchasing Materials (Learn Material Reinforce synthesis skill - 2,500 Cole) and World System (Learn Full Power synthesis skill - 5,000 Cole) may help too, as they'll allow you to get the most out of your synthesis. The best way to level up is to simply synthesise one of every item, as well as synthesise the ultimate gear/items listed in the Tips and Tricks section. If you find yourself synthesising everything and still not reaching alchemy level 50, them focus on synthesising high-level items such as Elixir or Sun Flower for high EXP.

Dragon King

Once you reach the Post-Game after reporting Assignment 9, there'll be a scene at Dragon's Fist Tavern. Duke will tell you of a dragon that has returned to Dragon's Nest. Head to Dragon's Nest and down to the Dragon's Head. You'll encounter Altegewalt, the Dragon King. He's Lv 65 and has 35,000HP. While he has a fair amount of HP, he isn't particularly powerful and doesn't have the constant threat of regaining HP to lead to a stalemate. If you have any of the ultimate gear and items listed in the Tips and Tricks section, you should be able to annihilate Altegewalt with one or two Double Down combos, before he even gets a chance to leave a dent.

Stopped Flameu after she released her true power.

Missable.

In order to face the ultimate version of Flameu, you must destroy the four coloured honeycombs you encounter as you progress through Fallen Ruins. Breaking these will act as limit breakers, increasing Flameu's level and stats. Once you reach Flameu, you'll be given a choice of two options. Select the second one:

  • "Fix the mistake"

With this selection, you'll face the ultimate version. Selecting the first option will negate the limit breakers, so she'd still be at Lv 50. Ultimate Flameu will be Lv 99 and have 99,999 HP, with high stats and resistances.

For the actual fight itself, it is highly recommended you have all or most of the ultimate gear and items listed in Tips and Tricks to ensure victory. Skill-boosting and support-boosting properties for Escha, Logy and Threia will all be immensely helpful, as will having items such as Tauzent Blitz, Knowledge Book, Elixir Source, Time Watch and Slag Essence, all with the recommended properties.

Experiment-wise, make sure you learn all of the Support experiments from Marion (Linked Attacks, Linked Guards, Linked Specials) before you attempt the fight. They'll all be tremendously helpful.

Flameu is unique in that she'll go through four stages in the battle, based on her HP percentage. These stages are the four seasons - Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. During each stage, she'll summon a timed attack that will last throughout the battle, which can be extremely damaging if she gets all timed attacks on the field simultaneously. She can also heal a lot of HP through her attacks if you don't defend during attacks. The key to beating Ultimate Flameu is to deal enough damage with your Double Draw combos so that you completely skip her Summer and Fall stages, so that she can't summon the extra timed attacks. When in Winter, she'll start to deal immense damage, enough to kill anyone if you don't use Hard Guard. Therefore, always defend her attacks once she enters Winter.

You'll want to have Escha, Logy and Threia in the frontline for the fight. When the fight starts, start buffing yourself and hastening the wait times with Elixir Base, Time Watch and Command Chime, then spend a few turns maxing your SP to 9 with Gold Curse Ring and Slag Essence. One you're confident that you're fully buffed and your SP is full, you can start using Double Draw. Use both Tauzent Blitz and Knowledge Book in a Double Draw (preferrably with Tauzent Blitz as the second item), then build your Damage Rate above 200% with your supporting characters. Once you break 200%, use Threia's Catastrophe to reduce Flameu's stats, then use Double Draw II to pump the damage. If you've been effectively using Time Watch, you should be able to get a few Double Draw combos in a row, which should be enough damage to completely skip her Summer and Fall stages, pushing her into Winter.

Once in Winter, you'll want to defend absolutely everything and ensure you keep your HP up, all the while using Slag Essence and Gold Curse Ring to push your SP up. Once you have the necessary SP to get a few more Double Draws out back-to-back, repeat the process above and you should be able to finish her. Once you defeat her, the trophy is yours.

Below is a video by MasterLL of GameFAQs demonstrating this strategy against Ultimate Flameu. His gear isn't quite as good as it can be, as you can defeat her in half the time it took him if you're prepared. The video is in Japanese, however.

Dunkelheit Farming:

At some stages in the game, having a few Dunkelheit will prove especially useful, due it having 20 Effect in all four Elements, along with All Elements x5 trait, making it fantastic for synthesis. Other than the individual Dunkelheit you can obtain through Katla and Nio, there is only one location you can obtain them.

Firstly, create Plant Nutrients with the Amazing Material effect (use Quantity Lv1 and Quantity Lv2 to give the Plant Nutrients 5 uses). Head to Southern Ruins - Sector One and get your field event bar to 100%. Select Rare Material Change, then head to Ruins Courtyard. Fill your field event bar again, and if Collection Sharing is available, use your Plant Nutrients. Select Collection Sharing and choose
quantity
. With any luck, you should get several Dunkelheit per trip.

Property Farming:

All of the best properties in the game won't be found on your typical ingredients, and many of them can't be created through synthesis either. The best way to obtain the best properties is either through the Strong Foe field event, of the Relic Search field event. Of those two, Relic Search is by far the fastest.

Synthesise a Dowsing Rod with the Amazing Relics effect (use Quantity Lv1 and Quantity Lv2 to give the Dowsing Rod 5 uses), then go to one of the below-listed locations. Go to the Relic Change location and get your field event bar to 100% to activate Relic Change. Then head to the location with the recommended relics and use your Dowsing Rod, then use Relic Search as many times as you can before resetting the area. All of the properties that are recommended in the
Ultimate Gear/Items
section can be found through these four locations, given enough time:

  • Map Name - Area Name: Relic Name [item Name] (Relic Change Location)

  • Lab of Eternity - Herb Garden: Clear Liquid [Natural Extract] (Relic Change - Entrance)

  • Dragon's Nest - Dragon's Body: Talisman [Dusk Talisman] - (Relic Change - Dragon's Left Wing) - Disassemble it for an easier synthesis item

  • Unexplored Ruins: Rare Medicine [Elixir Base]

  • Fallen Ruins: Fancy Gem [Green Crystal] / Small Vial [Dragon's Secret] - Disassemble it for an easier synthesis item

Ultimate Gear/Items:

Below are our recommendations for accessories, armor, weapons, attack items and healing/support items you should use if you want to be most efficient in combat, along with all the recommended properties for each item. For all end-game and optional bosses, it is recommended you have gear/items of this calibre to ensure victory:

  • Accessories:
Everyone in your party should use Treasure Grimoire and Brother Call as their accessories. They have by far the best effects. For Treasure Grimoire, make sure to use the Reset Attribute (1 Wind Point) synthesis skill at the end of the process on the Earth Element for the Overflow Wits effect. For the properties, use some high end Soul properties such as Dark God Soul (increases speed and reduces wait time after using skills), Aerial Soul (increases support effectiveness and support gauge), Light God Soul (damage reversal and immunity to all status ailments) and Sunlight/Moonlight Soul (increases all stats and resistances). For Escha, Logy and Threia, you should also try and get skill-boosting properties such as Saving Skill (skill power increased by 50%) and Expert Technique (skill power increased by 50%, skill cost reduced by 25%).

    • Raven's Accessories (highest effects):

    • Treasure Grimoire - Light God Soul, Sunlight Soul, Moonlight Soul

    • Brother Call - Dark God Soul, Night Lord Soul, Aerial Soul

  • Armor:
For armor, Combat Shirt and Scale Plate are the best choices, due to their Avoid KO M effect (fairly low chance of surviving a hit that would normally reduce HP to 0). If you don't care for Avoid KO M, then Celestial Shirt and Dragoon Cape are best. For the properties, recommended ones include Robust Body (increase DEF by 50, all stats by 25%), Boost all stats (increases all stats except resistances by 15), 4-God Barrier (increases all resistances by 20) and Loving Soul (strengthens support abilities).

    • Raven's Armor (highest effects):

    • Combat Shirt - Robust Body, Boost all stats, 4-God Barrier

    • Scale Plate - Robust Body, Boost all stats, 4-God Barrier

  • Weapons:
For weapons, obviously use the highest tier for each character. For the properties, use things like 4-God Attack (adds extremely powerful damage from all elements to attacks), Comet Attack (adds damage from all elements to attacks, adds a chance to poison/blind/weaken the opponent, increases skill power) and Boost all stats (increases all stats except resistances by 15) for your general members. For Escha, Logy and Threia (they should be your main party for bosses), go for skill-boosting properties again like Saving Skill (skill power increased by 50%) and Expert Technique (skill power increased by 50%, skill cost reduced by 25%).

    • Raven's Weapons (highest effects):

    • Escha/Logy/Threia - Saving Skill, Comet Attack, Boost all stats

    • Others - 4-God Attack, Comet Attack, Boost all stats

  • Attack Items:
For attack items, your best bet is using Tauzent Blitz (Logy only), Knowledge Book (Escha only), Omega Craft and Dimension Bomb. The former two are unique recipes that you'll only acquire at the end of the respective player's playthrough, so you'll need to be on NG+ to have both items. Recommended properties for attack items are Jumbo Blessing (strengthens item effect by [equip cost squared x8]%), Super Properties (item effect strengthened by properties on item; stronger properties = more power) and All Around Boost (increases item power by [90/number of targets]% + [number of targets x40]%). For Tauzent Blitz, use the item-specific property Light Core (adds damage from all elements).

    • Raven's Attack Items (highest effects):

    • Tauzent Blitz (Logy only) - Jumbo Blessing, Light Core, Cost Bonus

    • Knowledge Book (Escha only) - Deadly Numbers, Sonic Throw, Heavenly Wave

  • Healing/Support Items:
For healing and support items, use Elixir Base, Time Watch, Slag Essence and Gold Curse Ring (Logy only). Time Watch is used for reducing wait times, Gold Curse Ring and Slag Essence are used for boosting your SP, Elixir Base is used for general healing and stat-boosting. Recommended properties for the support items are Perpetual Motion (infinite uses), Mach Throw (reduces wait time by 50%) and Sonic Throw (reduces wait time by 30%). For Slag Essence, use Slag Wave (increases support gauge). For Gold Curse Ring, use Gold Curse Ring (increases support gauge). For Elixir Base, use properties like Perpetual Motion (infinite uses), 50% Automatic (activates automatically when user's HP drops below 50%), Max Compress (reduces Search Equipment cost by 3) and Elixir Source (greatly heals the target's HP and MP).

    • Raven's Healing/Support Items (highest effects):

    • Elixir Base - Elixir Source, Max Compress, 30% Automatic

    • Time Watch - Sonic Throw, Enhance WT+, Max Compress

    • Gold Curse Ring (Logy only) - Perpetual Motion, Mach Throw, Gold Curse Ring

    • Slag Essence - Slag Wave, Mach Throw, Sonic Throw

Double Draw - Maximising Damage:

The key to dealing massive damage in this game - and thus defeating the harder bosses - is utilising the Double Draw and Support abilities. Double Draw allows both alchemists to use an item, with the Double Draw option replacing the support attack option for the second alchemist. Before you consider using Double Draw/Support to their maximum potential, make sure to purchase the following experiments from Marion: Linked Attacks (strengthens support attacks - 5,000 Cole) and Linked Specials (strengthens support specials - 10,000 Cole). These experiments will unlock the stronger versions of your support abilities, which will be necessary for the below description.

In order to maximise the damage output, you first want to use the strongest item with the second alchemist (eg: if Escha has the stronger attack item, initiate the Double Draw during Logy's turn). Once you select the two attack items, use the support attacks of all your supporting characters
except
Threia to build the Damage Rate above 200%. Once it hits 200%, you'll be able to use Threia's Catastrophe support special (available through the Linked Specials experiment), which will lower the opponent's stats along with dealing damage, as well as push the Damage Rate above 300%. The great thing about Double Draw however is that you can still perform Double Draw after performing a support special (which would normally end a combo). Therefore once you've used Catastrophe, use the Double Draw ability, which should be displayed as the stronger version, Double Draw II. This will deal massive damage, potentially enough to kill any enemy except Ultimate Flameu in in a single hit - through experimentation, I've been able to deal as high as 110,000 damage in a single combo!

In order to pull this off successfully however, you'll need at least 2 SP (support points) before initiating the Double Draw, as well as have the first attack bring the Damage Rate to at least 130%. Any less than 130% and you'll have to use four characters to break 200%, meaning you won't be able to use Threia's Catastrophe support special to weaken the enemy and strengthen the upcoming Double Draw II.

Thanks for the guide! I still need to play Atelier Ayesha, but I'll definitely reference this as I play through it...I always get that feeling that I'm missing something and/or not making the best use of my time when I'm playing Atelier games, so it'll be nice to have this to reassure me I'm not making a total mess of it~

Very good. Now you also have two main titles for the Atelier Saga in guide form (excluding the plus versions, of course). Congratulations from me, it will be worth the effort.

Thanks, I look forward to the next Atelier!

Good job Raven and Neo! Nice to see you got that guide up you couple of beast:p Looks good!

You helped a lil' bit too ;)

Well, how about that? I just woke up, and it IS actually up. :p Looks good, I'll definitely go through the item tips when I get back to this game after FF X :D

Told you! :p

The guide look awesome. :applause:

It have already help me as I got stuck at dragon's head but your guide told me how to get passed the dragon at dragon's head.

You mean Goltessen, the metal-eating dragon? I killed him because I was afraid I'd miss out on something otherwise :p

Finally. :p

Guide looks great guys! I'll be sure to use it once I get the game.

Might actually be the first guide of mine that you use! (Well Ayesha actually, because I assume you'd play Ayesha first :p)

I've been waiting for this! Well done, gentlemen.

Screw THL, get into the game right now. It's even better than Ayesha!

Great and a well detailed guide as always :) will come in handy when I finally get around to putting this into the PS3, it keeps sitting next to the TV tempting me to play it.

I highly recommend you play it soon, probably my favourite Atelier game now.

I know what you mean, I always used Krystal's walkthroughs step-by-step when playing the Arland games, because I didn't want to miss anything :p Luckily it's very simple this time around, it's really just defeating the ultimate version of the last boss that takes preparation.

That is a big call I really enjoyed many of the past games, but reading this makes me want to finish Tales of Symphonia quicker so I can start on this

Well Ayesha was my favourite from a gameplay perspective, and Totori was my favourite from dialog/characters perspective, but I think I actually prefer Escha as a character over Totori. Plus as always, the gameplay is an improvement.

thanks a bunch for the guide.

I am yet to fully use it, however after a very quick peak I found myself at a crossroad.

I am in chapter 6, just finished the gas stuff for Awin and the airship.

In the guide said the trophy should pop up after an event sequence, and that if one leaves the village no more pop up.

I am at this point (possible spoilers):

[spoiler=832612dec]After giving the material to Awin all 3 gathered in Atelier and spoke for a bit. The event ended, there is no trophy. I have no more events in village, and still need to "deliver" to main quest. I stopped playing at that moment.

What should I do for the trophy to appear?

So you stopped playing immediately after making the Flight Gas Jar and getting the basic airship? If that's right, then you'll have to wait a day to get the next Awin event, and a few more days to get the event in the Atelier with the other trophy. Just synthesise a few things and check for events after each synthesis.
