Vyrastas
NOTE: Sony has released an Official FAQ for the PS4. This is super in-depth and you should read it before asking questions. The info below is what we had compiled in the days leading up the Official FAQ and console release. ____________________________________ For real, this is what it looks like: http://www.cinemablend.com/images/sections/56588/ps4_56588.jpg http://www.cinemablend.com/images/gallery/s56588/ps4_13709160224204.jpg The official spec sheet and press release from Sony can be found here: Sony PS4 Press Release This Website. We are not going anywhere. The site will continue and cover the PS4. When something changes, we'll let you know what the changes will be. Until then, it's business as usual. The Controller. It's a DualShock 4. Plenty of info here. Additional DS4 controllers will be available at launch for $59 / €59 / £54, and will also come in colors of Magna Red and Wave Blue. The Package. There will be one DualShock 4 controller and one wired earbud headset (mono ) included. The new PS Eye will not be included and is not required to use the console. Release Date. November 15th for NA November 29th for SA/EU/AU December for Asia February 22nd for JPHere's a press release with specific territories. Price. 500GB Model: $399 / €399 / £349 / AU$549 Trophies. There Will Be Trophies. They will be part of your current PSN account that has PS3 and Vita trophies. Trophy Auto-Sync. We don't know if the PS4 will auto-sync your trophies upon earning them. User Interface. The new interface is called the PDM (PlayStation Dynamic Menu). This menu is customizable. IGN has a great breakdown of the new interface. As you can see in the IGN video (at 3:20), the XMB still exists at a high-level in a slightly different form. Custom themes are not supported. Here are some screenshots of the UI on the PS4 and the mobile app Sony is apparently making: http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-1.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-2.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-3.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-4.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-5.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-6.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-7.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-8.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-9.png http://www.psmania.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/original-10.png System Firmware. There's already an update to the firmware... details on version 1.50 can be found here. System Specs. IGN has put together a nice comparison of the PS4, XBox One and Wii U specs and you can also find info on all 8th generation consoles on Wikipedia. For a quick comparison between the PS3 and PS4 specs, see AlphaCookie's post here. For an in-depth discussion on how the PS4 was created, check out this Gamasutra interview with the Lead Architect, Mark Cerny. http://i.neoseeker.com/n/6/playstation_4_specs.jpg RAM. Based on reports, it seems that around 4.5GB - 5GB (of the full 8GB) are available to developers for game usage. Regardless of the specific number, this is a marked improvement over the 256MB RAM / 256MB VRAM that the PS3 makes available. HDD. It's 500 GB. You can upgrade it just like you can for the PS3. Peripheral Compatibility. You will be able to use PS3 Move controllers on the PS4. It will use the new PS Eye, which can be purchased separately for $59 / €49 / £44. The new PS Eye will connect to the console with a proprietary connector, not with USB. PS3 wireless headsets will work with the PS4. Internet Connection. You do not need an "always on" persistent internet connection to use the console or play games. You do not need to "check in" every 24 hours. You can play games offline whenever you like. Online Play. Here's the lowdown: You will need PS+ to play online with PS4. One account on each console can activate online play for all sub-accounts on that same console. F2P games will not require PS+ to play online. Used Games. The PS4 will play used games. There will be no used game fee or registration involved, you don't need to be friends with someone for 30 days to loan them the game, you can sell/trade it in if you like. Here's a handy instructional video: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWSIFh8ICaA]Official PlayStation Used Game Instructional Video - YouTube[/ame] Game / Account Sharing. A good explanation how you can share game / account content can be found on Sony's official PS4 FAQ. DRM. Sony first-party games will not implement any type of DRM. There will no Online Pass Program for PS4. However, third-party publishers can still choose to implement DRM in some way. What form this might take, we are not sure. Backwards Compatibility. The PS4 will not be backwards compatible with games made for previous consoles at launch. This includes both retail and digital copies of games you have purchased on PSN. There are plans for streaming of PS3 titles in 2014, using Gaikai technology. This will most likely be expanded to titles from previous systems in the future. It has also been announced that if you buy a copy of a game on PS3, you will be able to get the digital PS4 version of the same game at a "significant" discount. How this works or what amount of discount you get, we don't know, but this will only be available for specific games. Games. There will be a digital version for every game on PS4. You will also be able to play any game from your digital library by logging into your account on any PS4 system. For info on confirmed PS4 titles in development, see this thread. Game Upgrading. Select PS3 games will come with a code that for a "limited" time, can be used to purchase the PS4 digital version of the game for $10. The caveat is that you have to have the PS3 disc inserted in your PS4 in order to play the PS4 digital version. Whether trophy lists will be stackable between the two versions, or will share a single list, is currently unknown, and will most likely vary from game to game, much like it does for Vita / PS3 now. Vyrastas
Region Locking. There will be no region locking. Whether or not this extends to DLC, we don't know. Game Pricing. They will be the same as they are now. $0.99 - $60 (USD) Downloading. You will be able to start playing a game soon after initiating the download. No more waiting for the entire game to download and install first. This is called "Remote Pre-Loading" and is analogous to streaming a movie from Netflix... you don't have to download the entire movie to start watching it. Party Chat. Party chat is available on the PS4. Cross-platform chat between PS4 and Vita will also be supported. In-Game Video Recording. You can do this. You will be able to pause while in-game, go back and edit out video footage, and post it online immediately. This will only be for the most recent 15 minutes of gameplay. Note that this feature can be disabled by developers for certain sections of a game, to avoid proliferation of spoilers online. In-Game Streaming. Twitch will be available on PS4. This means you'll be able to broadcast your live gameplay directly to a Twitch channel from the console. A Twitch app for viewing will also be available. You will also be able to provide commentary while you stream. User Names. You will have the option to use your real name during interactions with other players. You have to enable this - it is not required. You will still have your PSN ID and can retain your anonymity if you wish. Social Media Capabilities. It's not required. You can turn it off, if you're a hermit or don't want to pester people with your gaming activity. Friends List. The friend list limit has increased from 100 (PS3) to 2000. PlayStation Plus. This program will carry over to PS4 and be active day one, with free access to DriveClub. All new PS4 owners will get a free 14-day trial of the program. It will have all the same capabilities as + on PS3, including access to PS4 online multiplayer (a la XBox Gold). So far, it looks like you'll be able to "purchase" free + games for PS4 via PC / Mobile even if you don't have a PS4 yet (that way you can download them later, when you do get the console). Vita Compatibility. You will be able to stream some games directly to your Vita, a la Remote Play. Sony has asked developers that all PS4 games include this, except for those that rely on the new PS Eye (with stereoscopic camera). Whether this means it's required by developers (like trophies are), we don't know. Whether that includes all launch titles, we don't know either, but assume there will be a few early titles that won't have it. Day One Buy. That's a personal decision every gamer has to make for him or herself. General Info. Kahuna
Release Date. All we know is "Holiday 2013." That's usually code for "mid-November, in plenty of time for Christmas." 2013 also includes Europe, confirmed. AlphaCookie
Great FAQ. I do feel it should mention peripheral compatibility though. We know the Move will work with the PS4. The Dualshock 3 will not. Then we're in the dark on Headsets like the Official Sony 7.1 set or other brands. I've been reading about the X1 that it will not support 360 headsets, so its bound to come up as a question for the PS4 as well if it holds true. K1NG_NAZARA
Good idea Yeah.. there are still quite a few people who are concerned about their "privacy". But Sony did confirm that you can completely and fully turn it off as they said "we know there are people who are anti-social and they have the option to turn it off".. need to find the source *searching* Edited May 25, 2013 by K1NG_NAZARA typo's fix'd

But Sony did confirm that you can completely and fully turn it off as they said "we know there are people who are anti-social and they have the oprion to turn it off".. need to find the source *searching* "anti-social" as in anti-social networking So if I'm in an online FPS with 31 other players, interacting with them socially but not using their social features then I'm being anti-social according to that muppet Either way I'll have fake details on my profile so privacy won't be a concern for me. It will however be for a lot of people, so I'll be supporting everyone else who wants their privacy.

Ryukori
Nice work on the thread! I suggest that you add that the price of PS4 games will be between 99 cents and $60, as confirmed by Sony themselves (link). This should stop the confusion about the $99.99 pricing on Amazon because some people think that $99.99 is going to be the actual price of the game, but it's actually just a placeholder price. They won't be lost. You can still play them, on the PS3, just like boxed games. Hmm, did I miss something somewhere? I always assumed that digital games could be re-downloaded on the PS4? I don't get the idea about, when PS4 doesn't support PS3 games, then how would it magically support digital ones. A PS3 game is a PS3 game, no matter if it's boxed or digital. We'll have to wait and see how the Gaikai service will shape up. People owning digital rights to PS3 games, may be allowed to stream them for free via Gaikai. No details on that has been released yet though. Edit: And as for the release of the beast in Europe. The EU Champions League final had lots of PS4 2013 ads. And Bayern won. Everything is good:p Edited May 26, 2013 by Pesico

Hopefully the PS4 will be launced well before the christmas holiday. November possibly? I guess it depends on how much in control they are. It's becoming clear that it will be 2013, and I bet Sony want to do this in November (early) or late October (going of on the big games release schedules). Wouldn't be surprised to see it happen in December either, but that means they just can't do it in time for the release window they want to make.
