Introduction

Welcome to Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds' Decade Duels Plus, the first Yu-Gi-Oh! game to make it to the PS3 console in the form of a PSN title. Decade Duels Plus is a port of the game that was originally released on the Xbox 360, and given the same "Plus" patch the 360 version of the arcade title received. For those familiar with the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe and its games, Decade Duels Plus uses a similar layout to the Tag Force series (without the animated models). While this generation of the series introduced "Riding Duels" or "Card Games on Motorcycles", there is no such thing in the TCG and never will be and as such this game will play just like Yu-Gi-Oh! always has.

Trophy-wise, the game is a long grind. There are simple trophies for editing your deck recipe and getting your first wins, however the real time consuming part to this 100% will be connected to the 100 Tag Duels wins (which must be done while connected to PSN with 3 other people), and just an overall of 200 wins in general.

Catching Up/Learning How to Play

There is alot of players who are still competitors in the TCG today, and are up to date with all the new card types. However there are also some who only remember the game from their childhood, and have long forgotten how to play or still do but don't know what to expect from the "new cards".

http://i.imgur.com/DZiY5qE.png

If you are a returning player from years ago, the game's ruleset has not changed at all, however deck types and duels might be a bit overwhelming if you're coming from the day and age where we still tributed summoned to get our high level monsters out. Today special summoning is a key factor in summon monsters and overwhelming the opponent, not only with force, but with numbers. Added to this, there may be a bit confusion to those returning players about the "white cards" or the Sychro Monsters. Follow this link learn about Synchro Summoning and the monsters associated with in (or simply follow the tutorial to learn about it when you enter Single Player for the first time). If you want a quick summary on Synchro Summoning, it's really just basic math. If you know that 3+2 equals 5 then you can probably Synchro Summon.

If you're a new player follow the tutorial. when you first enter Single Player mode, Rex Goodwin will run you through the basics of the game in a fast and easy to understand tutorial.

Optional DLC Booster Packs

When starting up Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels Plus, you will find that your Initial Starter Deck is lacking in just about every way possible. To older players, who only remember filling their decks with 4 star beaters, might not mind it (at first). However to regular veteran players, the deck is an insult, especially with what we must be put up against in Single Player. With that said, if you have the extra money lying around and want to make Single Player much easier (and online if you plan to play with randoms), then it would be advised that you consider the following DLC Booster Packs:

Between the 4 the "Card Pack 07 - Crow's Deck" might be all you need, but if you want to fill your deck with more staples and other powerful cards, the other packs should definitely be look into. Keep in mind that these cards can be unlocked normally through the game and are not exclusive to the DLC, however with the games card distribution system getting any usable cards for a decent deck would take way too long. The extra money on a pack or two might be worth it.

"Would you like to activate the effect of a card?" Notices

This is probably one of the most annoying features of the game, where it asks you can every little step if you want to activate certain cards such as Jar of Greed, Rush Recklessly, and quick play spells; or traps that can be played during those phases. If you want to avoid all this, you can simply hold :circle:, however keep in mind that if you have any other cards that are important face down you might want to ease off on holding :circle:, as you might miss your activation.

Trophy Freezing Issue

Keep in mind that whenever you unlock a trophy, the game will freeze for a second. In most cases there will be a long pause where its just a black screen. This is completly normal; just keep it in mind while you are playing the game.

Step 1: Single Player Mode

During this portion of the game, you will essentially be playing Single Player, with the objective of defeating Yusei Fudo and Jack Atlas at least once. When you start up Single Player Mode, you will be put into a Preliminary Tournament to determine if you can advance to the final tournament, where you will face one of the two main characters for their respective trophies. When starting up the mode, don't worry about what gender avatar you pick as they do not factor into which main character will appear during the main tournament.

During the Preliminary Tournament, you will play 1 round duels. However during the main tournament you will be playing best 2 out of 3 matches. The opponents in single player are no joke with specialized structured decks and strong staple cards in their decks as well. Defeating them with your Initial Starter Deck isn't impossible, but it will be very difficult and luck based at times. If you decide not to buy any of the DLC packs and are having trouble beating the opponents in the Preliminary Tournament, you may have an even harder time against Yusei and Jack, so you may want to consider grinding out Preliminary Tournament Matches for cards to help improve your deck.

At the end of this step you should unlock the following trophies:

(B)

Become a Duelist

(B)
First to become a true Duelist

(B)
Become a Signer

(B)
Absolute King of the Turbo Duel

(B)
Becoming a special Duelist

After winning a duel, you should also be able to edit your deck with a new card and obtain the following trophy for a unique deck recipe:

(B)

You have talent!

Step 2: Multiplay Mode

During this portion, your main objective will be to complete all of your Tag Duels, as they can only be done through this mode. Tag Duels require 3 other players in order for the duel to start. Playing with randoms can be a lot of hassle; not only do you have to wait for randoms to join the game, there is the chance of them messing up the duel by making wrong moves and making your plans go to waste, or even just having a opponent ragequit on you after suffering a horrible defeat. The risks are too high to do them in this fashion, so it is definately recommended that you have boosting partners ready if possible.

While you are completing all your Tag Duels, make sure to do them in 1 round settings so that it may go towards your Single Mode duels as well for its respective trophy. At the end of this step you should have the following trophies:

(B)

Create a friend!

(B)
You became a tag Duelist!

(S)
Lonely Duelist

(S)
Friendly Duelist

If you are looking for boosting partners, please refer to the Trophy Boosting Thread.

Online Issues

As the game is right now, it seems nearly impossible to even start a Tag Duel, let alone finish one, without the game dropping the connection to everyone in the duel. Through boosting it might be possible to sneak a couple duels with the 30 second time out method described under Friendly Duelist. However with the way online is right now, doing this step with randoms might be impossible until the games multiplay mode has been patched.

Step 3: 200 Wins and 1,000,000 Life Points

This step is basically a clean up step, where you will be finishing up whatever remaining trophies you have left. If all your duels online and offline went perfectly, there is a slight chance that you may still be shy a couple points for your 1,000,000 life point trophy. You will most definitely need to finish up a bit more for your 200 wins; you can do this through single player by yourself by grinding out the Preliminary Tournament, or you can boost it with a friend online. When all is said and done, you should have unlocked the final trophies for your 100%:

(S)

Violent Duelist

(G)
Ultimate Duelist

Conclusion to Yu-Gi-Oh! Decade Duels

Overall the game is fun for casual players of the TCG, who are looking to relive the fun old days of Yu-Gi-Oh!, however for veteran players, it's a bit disappointing; for the trophy heads out there it is quite a long, boring grind to completion.

Play a single player game

For this trophy you must play 1 duel in single player; after the duel whether you win or lose the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1912/5D5.jpg First to become a true Duelist (B)

Win a Preliminary Tournament

When you start up any new session in single player mode, you are immediately put into a Preliminary Tournament, where you must face 3 different opponents in a round robin tournament setting. To win the Preliminary Tournament and proceed to face either Yusei or Jack in the final tournament, you must have the most wins between yourself and the other 3 opponents. To proceed you basically have to win 3 straight matches; if there is a case where you and another character go with a 2-1 win/lose record the game will determine who proceeds by using their scores from each duel. The factors for each score are listed in the link below.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia - Decade Duels Result Items

Exit Game Exploit

If at any time during the duel you feel as if you're going to lose and don't want to start the Preliminary Tournament over again, you can press :start: and simply Exit Game. If you saved after your previous duel, you can select continue when you click single player again, and it will start over the duel you just exited out of.

Preliminary Tournament Opponents:

Your opponents all have prestructured decks, all of which contain cards that support and help each other, whereas you only have a basic deck (unless you purchased any of the DLC booster packs). Luckily, each duel is a single elimination match opposed to a best 2 out of 3 like the duels against Yusei and Jack so you can get away with lucky draws and winning the matches that way. If you're about to lose, and don't want to run the risk of redoing the entire tournament again, you can abuse the "Exit Game" Exploit .

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1912/53F.jpg Become a Signer (B)

Defeat Yusei

Knockout Tournament

After completing the Preliminary Tournament, you will play in the Knockout Tournament under a best 2 out of 3 format, where you must win 2 full duels before your opponent. The opponents in this tournament are all familiar faces to anyone who has watched the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, and hold decks similar of that to their shows counterpart. On the other side of the tournament bracket, you will see either Yusei or Jack within the brackets (there will never be a time where you see both). Whomever you see on the other side is guaranteed to win their matches and play against you in the Grand Finals of the tournament.

http://i.imgur.com/uQDYKt5.png

There is no factors in the game that let you trigger either Yusei or Jack to be in the main tournament for their respective trophies; you simply have to hope the one you want is awaiting you in the Knockout tournament after you completely the Preliminary Tournament.

Dueling Against Yusei Fudo:

Key Cards

http://i.imgur.com/jTFo5E3.png

When dueling against Yusei, his main objective will be to summon a swarm of Junk Warriors against you, using Junk Synchron and other level 2 or lower monsters in his deck at the same time. He likes to swarm the field with lower level monsters, and increase their attack points with various equip cards, or elects to trigger the second effect of Junk Warrior, which lets him add the attack points of all level 2 or lower monsters on his side of the field to his own. Combined with cards Yusei has like The Calculator, whom on its own is a threat depending on Yuseis monsters on the field, Junk Warrior can easily overwhelm you at least 5000 ATK points, when he is Special Summoned and if Yusei has the right setup, it can go as high as 10,000 ATK points.

Yusei will occassionally summon his Stardust Dragon, and while the card doesn't seem as threatening compared to his set up above, its effect to negate destruction effects will definitely be troublesome for you when dealing with his other powerhouse monsters.

Strategy Against Yusei:

Assuming that you are still running the basic deck, there are a lot of card combinations you can use against Yusei's deck particularly (if you are using cards from DLC booster packs this section won't be as relevant to you).

Your deck has a lot of relatively high attack power 4 star monsters, so if the luck of the draw is on your side, try to overwhelm him by destroying his monsters and depleting as much of his life points fast before he can start to set up his endless cycle of Junk Warrior Synchro Summons. If you so happen to draw any of these cards early in the duel, try to save them for Junk Warrior Synchro Summons or attacks:

  • Smashing Ground
  • Bottomless Trap Hole
  • Justi-Break
  • Sakuretsu Armor

Against Stardust Dragon, you really don't have a lot of cards to fight against it with except Elemental Hero NEOS; however he is a 7 star normal monster so you'll have to tribute 2 of your monsters to even summon him out (which might be difficult to accomplish against Yusei). Save your Rush Recklessly for Stardust if you can. If you have to use it against Junk Warrior, that is fine too, or if you can try to get a hold of one of your 1500 ATK point or higher Elemental Heros, in combination with the field spell card Skyscraper in your deck. Besides that, there really is no way to destroy him with the basic deck; you can use Brain Control and if you have Elemental Hero NEOS in your hand as well as another monster on the field you can use Stardust as a tribute, however the chances of that are pretty slim along with a lot of other setups your deck has.

Overall with the basic deck it comes down to the luck of the draw and your strategic thinking with the cards you are given; its not impossible but quite the uphill battle. You can make this much easier with some of the DLC booster packs, however that is entirely up to you.

Defeat Jack

Dueling Against Jack Atlas:

Key Cards

http://i.imgur.com/YNnAtSa.png

Jack Atlas uses a form of Dragon OTK (One Turn Kill) utilizing Future Fusion, Five-Headed Dragon, Red Eyes Wyvern, and Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. How the deck works is that he will try to swarm you with higher level Dragons in a short period of time, and he will do this with Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, who can Special Summon any Dragon-Type Monster in his hand to the field; this includes strong monsters such as the famous Blue Eyes White Dragon. Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon is so easy to get to the field, because not only can Jack Special Summon it by banishing a face-up Dragon-Type Monster, he can also Special Summon from the graveyard after you have destroyed it with Red-Eyes Wyvern. With cards such as Dragons Mirror and Future Fusion, he is sure to put them all in his graveyard to guarantee he has some sort of beater on the field.

Added to this, while he fills his graveyard with Wyverns with cards like Future Fusion, if he does use Future Fusion, he will be aiming to Special Summon the Five-Headed Dragon, which is a 5000 ATK point beater; added against a 2800 ATK Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, and possibly at 3000 ATK Blue Eyes White Dragon, he is sure to make quick work of you in a flash.

Strategy Against Jack:

At this point, it is almost highly recommended to just buy some of the DLC Booster Packs to make this duel so much easier and bearable to play, however that doesn't mean its impossible with your base deck, but just like a duel with Yusei, you would have to be extremely lucky.

Your base deck, unfortunately, doesn't have a lot of support against a deck list like this, however if you're patient enough, you can catch him by surprise with ease. If you can draw and have a Bottomless Trap Hole ready, it is highly recommended that you have that ready for Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon or Five-Headed Dragon. Red-Eyes Wyvern can bring a Dragon-Type back from the graveyard not from being banished, so the less of this dragon you have to deal with, the better.

Using in combination of Swords of Revealing Lights or Nightmare Steelcage with Swarm of Scarabs, you can easily stall and destroy Jacks heavy beaters with ease and endlessly, so long as he doesn't destroy either of your stall Spell cards. If you can prevent the full activation of Future Fusion, that would be a great way to avoid Five-Headed Dragon. Cards such as the following can help do this:

  • Magic Jammer
  • Dust Tornado
  • Heavy Storm
  • Giant Trunade

Finally, remember to keep in mind your destruction spell and trap cards such as Smashing Ground and Justi-Break, and save them for when Jack summons Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon or starts swarming the field with multiple monsters

Jacks Deck List

Monsters:

3x Blue Eyes White Dragon

2x Divine Dragon Ragnarok

1x Exploder Dragon

2x Magna Drago

3x Masked Dragon

3x Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon

2x Red-Eyes Wyvern

2x Strong Wind Dragon

2x The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion

2x The White Stone of Legend

Spell Cards:

1x Ancient Rules

1x Brain Control

1x D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation

Save an original Deck Recipe

For this trophy, you must simply save a Deck Recipe that is different from the Initial Deck you are given when you start the game. If you have downloaded any of the DLC Booster Packs, you can skip straight ahead to the deck edit, however if you did not, you'll have to win a duel in Single Player to obtain new cards.

http://i.imgur.com/j9qgT8y.png

From the main menu select "Deck Edit", then select "Trunk", and then "Select Card". If you're aiming straight for the trophy, simply hit :cross: on any card that is already not in your main deck (new cards will have a flashing "New!" indicator on top of them). The selected card will now be added to your main deck so hit :circle: and back up and select "Deck" this time. From the sub menu, scroll down to "Edit Recipe", and select one of the empty Save Slots and register your recipe. After this has been done, hit :circle: to back out, and continue to press it until you prompted to return to the main menu and to save your game. Select Yes and your trophy should unlock.

Inflict at least 1 million total damage

For this trophy, you must deal a total of 1,000,000 points of damage over the course of your overall Yu-Gi-Oh! Decade Duels Plus career. Assuming you are doing this through 1v1 duels online or in single player you will need to play a minimum of 125 duels (and that is assuming you win every single one of them). With an upgraded deck, you can easily grind this out through the Preliminary Tournament multiple times (quitting out when you reach the main tournament to avoid arguably harder opponents and a best 2 out of 3 match setting) until you unlock this trophy and at the same time add progress towards Lonely Duelist and Ultimate Duelist.

Alternate Boosting Method

If you are in a hurry, and wish to complete this and your wins ASAP, you can play private matches with another player. Simply have one player have a deck full of nothing but high ATK power 4 star monsters (if they have monsters that can Special Summon and swarm the field that would be ideal), as well as various equip spells; if they unlocked any while the other player just skips all his turns and allows his opponent to just get free wins off of him, and deplete his life points from 8000 to 0 in record time.

Doing it this way will also guarantee your 100 wins for Lonely Duelist by the time you are finished.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1912/B98.jpg Lonely Duelist (S)

100 wins in Single Mode

For this trophy, you must win 100 duels in Single Mode. The trophy is for completing duels in "Single Mode", which can be mistaken as 1v1 duels. However it actually means duels under a 1 round setting, so using the Single Player mode as an example all the duels during the Preliminary Tournament will count towards the trophy because they are under a 1 round setting; however the duels during the main tournament afterwards will not because they are in a best 2 out of 3 setting.

Essentially you can unlock this trophy alongside of Friendly Duelist if you and your boosting partners have the matches under a 1 round setting while you play.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1912/265.jpg Friendly Duelist (S)

100 wins in Tag Duel

:psn: : This trophy requires a PSN connection as well as 3 other players (4 total)

For this trophy, you must win 100 Tag Duels which can only be played in Multiplay Mode. It can be difficult to find 3 other players who will want to play a Tag Duel, and then making sure your partner doesn't make any mistakes with any of your plans, or setups to avoid you from your win for progression towards this trophy, so finding a dedicated boosting group would be highly recommended. If you don't want to find a whole boosting group and have to exchange wins, you can alternatively just find one player whom you trust as a partner for your tag duels and face various randoms online, however the downside with this:

  • Consistency with dueling. You'll have to wait for 2 random players to join your lobby each time.
  • The chances of your opponent disconnecting and wasting your time.

Added to this, if you join another persons lobby and the lobby seems idle for too long, it's possible the host has already closed the room and you were stuck a standalone lobby that used to be. If you've been waiting in a lobby for too long, back out and search for another no matter how many people "appear" to be in the lobby.

4 Player Boosting Method

Now how you and your boosting partners go about boosting these wins is entirely up to the group. You can play out full matches to help with your progression towards Violent Duelist, however if you are not worried about that, you can make private matches and simply set a time limit to "30 Seconds". At the start of the duel the team who will be grinding out wins will have the other team simply run out the 30 second time limit and automatically netting you quick wins towards this trophy.

If you are looking for boosting partners please refer to the Trophy Boosting Thread.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1912/0CF.jpg Ultimate Duelist (G)

200 wins in any mode

For this trophy you must win 200 duels throughout your entire Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels Plus career (this can be done through 1v1 and Tag Duels and under either single round or best 2 out of 3 format). After completing both Lonely Duelist and Friendly Duelist, you may either complete the rest of the wins you need with a single boosting partner following the same "Time Out" method described under Friendly Duelist, or you can grind it out yourself in single player mode.

Royal oppression is a good card against almost every deck that uses Synchro and Special Summons, it's available from card pack 7

I'll probably make a separate thread showing off staples from all the packs, not entirely sure how I want to lay it out yet.

When i lose in the 2nd Tournament, do i have to replay everything all over again ?

Yes, the second you lose any duel in single player mode you'll be forced to start over however if you pause and quit game you can reload your save file when you select single player again and you'll be right back at the duel where you left off as if you never started the duel.

Brain Control is also a key card to be recommend to use as well as sword of revealing light.

Also this should be added in the roadmap

http://www.yugioh-card.com/uk/rulebook/V7_English_Rlbk_lores.pdf

^ That's the official rulebook used for this game at the time it was created. Also add the 2010 banlist somewhere in the roadmap.

Other than that nice guide. :)

Edit: oh I forgot. I just won my first online tag duel. Lucky noone disconnected this time. Things worth mentioning.

Once you win you get the win no matter when you see the YOU WIN pop up on the screen then press the :cross: button to see the Results screen. Your trophies (or trophy if you lost) will pop. It's best to keep track of your wins if you did some online legit without boosting. Mines was in a a custom single Tag Duel game with no time limit and standard 8000 Life Points.

Plus be careful to not waste your time in lobbies, because sometimes the host isn't even in the lobby. In fact the host could be playing single player the whole time you guys wait for 3 others to join in. I learned this by message the host to start the lobby. He told me he was in single player... :|

I think those two cards are universally key cards in every duel, I'm going to write a thread for strategies with the Initial Starter Deck for beginners/inexperience players. I stated this before but I don't think mentioning what banlist it is would be relevant if one doesn't have the means to obtain all the cards they desire for their ideal deck that fits the format.

I was actually going to add something like that however I think the ingame Tutorial should be enough, learning is much eaiser when its hands on and interactive.

Lucky you for being able to complete a game, I find that the rooms I end up in crash the second we start it. I'll add the note about the lobby leader, it slipped my mind but the same thing happened to me. I was waiting in a lobby and got bored of waiting so I backed out and noticed he had a new one up already with other people waiting... I was so confused lol

Another thing worth mentioning is that the Online Tag Duels can freeze when resolving multiple chains. If someone presses start and quit, everyone disconnects. Fastest way to win duels online is by boosting with only 2000 LP cap wins. The 1 million Life Points inflicted is something that unlocks naturally just by playing.

The fastest way is to just set the Time Limit to 30 seconds, if someone takes too long making their move his whole team loses. Staying idle for 30 seconds is MUCH faster than setting up and passing turns to deal 2000LP

1 million obviously unlocks naturally and with the way online is currently it would probably just be recommended to do it in single player mode.

Grinding for the 100 online tag wins is MURDER! The game constantly disconnects. Dunno about this one.

I've been playing with randoms so its even harder for me, I should probably just join a boosting group and just do it under the lowest settings and get it over with.

Blazin naruto, myself, and two others got about 6 matches done before the servers started acting up.

30-40 minutes later we still couldn't even get a game started.

Yeah I probably have bad timing, whenever I did get into a game it seems afterwards all the games I try wouldn't even let me start

I just want to get one, If you wouldn't mind letting me jump in one session that would be much appreciated

i bought crows pack, pack 1, and starter deck 5

i was wondering if those of you who have bought crows pack 7 use all the cards from the pack in your deck?

I didn't use every single one but I used a considerable amount. I didn't use either Monarch's because I don't like tribute summoning, I've grown attached to the Synchro Summoning even now with XYZs out in the TCG but the Monarchs are good and I would recommend them despite myself not using them.

Cards that probably won't end up in your deck are:

  • Chain Strike
  • Dark Deal
  • Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
  • Ookazi
  • Spell Striker

Everything else seem like they would easily be perfect additions to your deck (Especially compared to the Initial Deck). Because you bought other DLC though the cards you pick from the rest just depend on how you like to play or set up your deck.

A little off topic but new Synchro are coming out in June. Synchros will be stronger than ever with new tuners and support. This is to counter Xyz Monsters also an attempt to create new strategies. Still new Xyz monsters will also keep coming. I prefer Xyzs in today's game.

Well with the rumors about the new ban list out if theyre true I'll probably be jumping back into the game for the season (right now I'm taking a break from it). Any links to what they are exactly, even with all these new things out if they can't work with a deck I like to play then it might not even matter to me.
