Achieving a jet ranking on every story level(apart from the finale which has no ranking) is half of what is required to unlock Potts and subsequently unlock the 'The gangs all here' trophy. It is strongly recommended that you wait until your second playthrough before going out of your way to jet levels or you will be forced to play with weaker characters for at least two levels. Each level has a minimum point requirement to acquire a jet ranking. At the end of the level the time, spray cans and health remaining will be converted into points and added onto your score. If you don't meet the points threshold, don't worry, the game does not save until after the cutscene, so there is plenty of time to exit the game. If you continue on without achieving a jet ranking you will have to wait until your next playthrough as there is no level select.

Graffiti

There are three graffiti skill levels. The higher the skill, the harder the commands are to follow, but also higher points can be achieved. The strength of a characters graffiti is displayed in the form of a bar when highlighting them at the character select screen. The commands for each level, the characters who use them and the points acquired for a medium tag(three sprays) can be found below:

Basic - Max Can Capacity - 30

Commands: Up, Down, 180 anti-clockwise

Characters: Tab, Love Shockers, Garam & Slate

Points: 500

Medium - Max Can Capacity - 20+

Commands: Down, 180 anti-clockwise, 180 clockwise followed by 180 anti-clockwise

Characters: Mew, Beat, Cube, Combo, Poison Jam & Noise Tanks

Points: 800

Advanced - Max Can Capacity - 15

Commands: 180 anti-clockwise followed by 180 clockwise, 360 anti-clockwise followed by 180 clockwise, 360 anti-clockwise followed by 180 anti-clockwise

Characters: Gum, Yo-Yo, Piranha & Goji

Points: 1700

In addition to 'vandalising' parked vehicles and the environment, you can also spray any enemy with a green arrow hovering over them for additional points.

Onishima: To spray Onishima, you need to either press :l2: from behind whilst he's unaware of your presence or knock him over while running into him(this will also damage you) and spray while he's dazed on the floor. This will award you with 500 points put him out of action for the rest of the level. On rare occasions, Onishima will glitch and become free from the graffiti and chase after you again. You may be able to spray him again for a further 500 points, but i'm not 100% sure.

Choppers: To spray a Chopper press :l2: while either grinding, flying or falling past it. This will net you 500 points for each chopper and put them out of commission for the entire level. After a few moments they'll spiral to the ground and burst into flames, so don't get too close or it will spread.

One of each of the assassin's in chapter three can also be tagged, however, I wouldn't recommend this as there is a strong chance that you will take a chunk of damage and just taking out one won't make much of a difference.

Technique

The technique rating of each character is displayed in the form of a bar when highlighting them at the character select screen. Each characters technique rating determines how effectively they can pull off advanced combos. If you try and pull off the multi wall slide in Bantam Street with a lesser technique character for example, you'll likely fail halfway through.

The longer you pull off continuous combos, the higher the points awarded for the stunt will rise. A railgrind gives you 10 points every second which will eventually rise to 100. A jump trick starts at 10x3 and rises to a maximum of 100x3. Timing is one of the most important things for maintaining an infinite combo. Jump too soon and you'll smash into an obstacle or thin air. Jump too late and you'll fall off and miss the wall completely. Holding :l3: forward will greatly improve the power and distance of you jumps, however, it should only really be used in two circumstances at Shibuya's Bus Terminal; The wall slide you use to jump over the gap(Note: You may need to adjust :l3: slightly to the right to stop yourself going too far) and from the rail after the second wall slide to the first rail. Avoid holding down :r2: before the first wall slide as doing a jump trick into it may not give you enough distance. When you find the power of your grind slipping to much, try jumping on the rail to attempt to give yourself a little boost.

At the end of a combo that is not ended by hitting an obstacle, a heavy landing or falling into water you'll be be awarded with bonus points depending on the amount of tricks performed up to a maximum of 1000 points. The threshold for 1000 points is actually quite low, roughly 15 tricks would be my guess.

Some users will be better with graffiti characters whilst others will excel with technique characters so videos of both types have been provided. All of the rival tag levels have been completed using only Garam as he has high can capacity. Prior to the video, the official name for the level, the score required for a jet rank(provided by Dark_Raven666 and used here with his permission), the score I acquired with that skillset and any additional information about the level are all listed.

Advanced Technique

All the videos in this section were created using Mew. If you decide to use a different technique character, do not use one with basic graffiti skills such as Tab or Garam or you will have to spend more time pulling off tricks to make up for the further point loss.

In order to play as Mew in Shibuya GG, Benten Boogie, Tag or Die and Rock n' Roll Grind you will need to beat her rival challenge which occurs after completing Benten Boogie AND beat the game. If you play Love Trap, The Monster of Kogane and/or No. 540 before completing Benten Boogie, you will also have to wait until playthrough two.

Shibuya GG

Jet Score: 32,500

Shadow's Score: 33,920

A flawless performance on this level may get you a jet rank without you having to go out of your way to perform tricks. The infinite loop in this level along with Kogane's sewers is the easiest to master. Take advantage of it if you need extra points.

Video below:

[spoiler=SS]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0nqD6Tw-Ko]Jet Set Radio HD - Shibuya GG Jet Ranking (Advanced Technique) - YouTube[/ame]

Love Trap

Jet Score: 40,000

Shadow's Score: 48,960

A flawless performance in this level may gift you a jet ranking, but there is no guarantee. To rack up some additional points toward the goal, grind along the two stairwells by the park. You'll need to jump diagonally to prevent ending the combo by hitting the post.

Video below:

[spoiler=SS2]

The Monster of Kogane

Jet Score: 30,000

Shadow's Score: 32,360

A flawless performance in this level should guarantee you a jet ranking. If it does not this simple grind will change that; Grind the rail-bridge-rail where the red tags are then jump and grind the stairwell, jump again and grind round the globe and finally jump back onto the tarmac.

Video below:

[spoiler=SS3]

No. 540

Jet Score: 30,000

Shadow's Score: 39,010

A flawless run in his level may secure a jet ranking. In my video, the final score suggests that I would've reached it without the additional grinding. I wasn't sure however, so I didn't risk it. If your score is <20K when you only have one tag left, grind around in the area shown in the video. It's one of the toughest infinite loops to master, so you'll likely make plenty of mistakes. I know I sure did.

[spoiler=SS4]

Benten Boogie

Jet Score: 44,000

Shadow's Score: 47,010

It is unlikely that a flawless performance in this level will net you a jet ranking. The grind that you start off on in the cutscene can be farmed for a point boost. It can be reached by going up the stairs in the middle area of the area and through a building. There is a medium tag nearby. I personally used it five times to hit my score.

Graffiti High

Jet Score: 32,000

Shadow's Score: 32,240

A flawless performance on this level may get you a jet rank without you having to go out of your way to perform tricks. If you find yourself just missing it, there are plenty of long rails for you to use.

Tag or Die

Jet Score: 40,000

Shadow's Score: 41,580

A flawless performance on this level may get you a jet rank without you having to go out of your way to perform tricks. If you find yourself just missing the required score, grind and wallslide around near the park. I did this a lot naturally during my run which landed me the jet ranking.

Video below:

[spoiler=SS7]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjYufmgHEd8]Jet Set Radio HD - Tag or Die Jet Ranking (Advanced Technique) - YouTube[/ame]

Rock n' Roll Grind

Jet Score: 50,000

Shadow's Score: 52,760

You will have to go out of your way to score points here, more than you have on any level up until now. Before you start spraying you'll want to rack up 15-20K points. From either of the levelled areas where the large graffiti tags are, jump onto the rail that loops downwards and jump forward just before the end. This will hopefully take you onto the rail in the middle where the statue is. Jump again before the end to slide up another rail and again. Try to keep this going as long as possible.

The video below is blocked in Germany due to the 'Improvise' track in the level which as strange as the Advanced Graffiti video also includes it but hasn't been blocked:

[spoiler=ss8]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REB5UYi-nyw]Jet Set Radio HD - Rock n' Roll Grind - YouTube[/ame]

Explosion

Jet Score: 70,000

Shadow's Score: 77,800

During the loop at the Bus Terminal, there will be several buses which can potentially end your combo during the first wall slide jump. Hold :l3: forward before jumping to gain enough height to jump over it. This will also add distance to your jump which can lead you to missing the rail. Make sure to then move it to the right to land on the rail instead.

Video below:

[spoiler=SS9]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Crp0itqPqvs]Jet Set Radio HD - Explosion Jet Ranking (Advanced Technique) - YouTube[/ame]

Fight or Flight

Jet Score: 62,000

Shadow's Score: 68,770

Something I didn't do during the loop in the sewers but really should've is to jump several seconds before jumping over the gap to build up grinding power. This will ensure that your jump isn't to weak to make it across.

Video below:

[spoiler=SS10][ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTAerlk9V_A]Jet Set Radio HD - Fight or Flight (Advanced Technique) - YouTube[/ame]

Benten Burning

Jet Score: 55,000

Shadow's Score: 65,490

Each of the large tags are guarded by the big guys. I didn't do so in the video, but if you get closer enough to them they will attempt to stomp and follow you. This will leave the tag wide open but you also have to deal with the pressure of them coming after you while you're spraying. If you go behind them, you can spray away without them moving, however, you will occasionally bump into them while spraying which will cause you damage but won't disrupt them.

Advanced Graffiti

All the videos in this section were created using Gum. Other good graffiti characters to use are Piranha and Yo-Yo, who is also a good technique user. If you've decided to go this route over technique, you should spend some time with one of the above characters to perfect your skills. If you go into levels after having played mostly with basic/medium graffiti characters, you will struggle.

Gum is the first character you unlock, however, like Mew, you will not be able to use her during the Grind Square levels on your first playthrough

Rival Tag Missions

All the videos in this section were created with Garam who has a maximum can capacity of 30, the exact number of sprays you'll need for these levels. If you decide to play as another high can capacity user, pick one with good technique skills i.e not Slate or you may not meet the point threshold. Garam is not unlocked until completing his three challenges after 'The Monster of Kogane' so if you Tackle Benten first, you'll have to use Tab instead.

Each enemy you need to tag has a specific pattern that they will follow. In Kogane they will all follow the same route, but in all the other levels at least one will take a slightly different route.

Kogane Circus

Jet Score: 30,000

Shadow's Score: 33,770

Getting too close to the flap that will drop you down to the starting position as I inadvertently did in the video will cause Poison Jam to start moving.

Looking good Shadow, very good for those who want to go for Advanced Technique instead of Advanced Graffiti :)

Very nice videos :applause:

Wish I'd seen your video for Fight or Flight before I tried to Jet that level. It gave me all kinds of stress. Your way looks much easier than going for graffiti score like I did.

Thanks guys. I was absolutely shit at advanced graffiti when I first played Fight or Flight, but pretty good at comboin', so I just thought i'd try it out. It made it very easy :)

this guide is too perfect thank u :)) i actually joined this site yesterday bc it came up on google so hey ^^

No problem and welcome to the site!

I've had to re-record a few chapter 3 videos. They should hopefully be back up by tomorrow night though.

Does the Jet rankings carry over through playthroughs? Or is it one perfect run?

Edit: Also I may have found another loop in No. 540 for a good technique character. If you like to see I could make a video.

Jet Rankings carry across, but you do still have to play through the game again to get to the levels you don't have Jet on.

The one at 3:03 in this video by any chance?

I accidentally found out that if you perform a tag and quickly press :l2: twice it'll keep the graffiti combo going without having to perform the time consuming stick combos. It just repeats the first move every time. I would post a video but I have no way of recording. So if anyone has time please verify, record, and post a video for the guide.

Yes, it works, but because you're only doing the basic tag, you'll lose a few hundred points on each one. Unless i'm misunderstanding something, it's no different than screwing up the second combo/letting go of :l2: and having to do the first one again - pointwise at least.

Great guide, I just stormed through the first 6 or so missions with Jet rankings thanks to these infinite loops I didn't even know existed before. It's also very helpful to know what score and time you had left when you finished :)

Edit: I got 31,800 on Graffiti High and it was still Nitro.. so my guess is Jet is infact 32,000 or something :x

Advanced Graffiti

Benten Boogie

Jet Score: 45,000

Shadow's Score: 50,130

I got 44 170 on this map and that is a JET ranking, so I'm guessing 44 000 is the Jet score ;) Otherwise I checked all my other results and they're all above your posted jet scores. Very nice guide, I did this offline while on holiday in Tenerife without internet, so I wasn't able to use this guide, but it would have saved me some time for sure! I used Yo-Yo for all the maps I didn't Jet to start off with as he has advanced graffiti and his technique isn't too bad ;)

Wow 3 of the maps I just got a few hundred points over the Jet score, nice! But seeing the scores now, I was only a few hundred points off the score a few times as well! ;)

Awesome guides. As I got better at this game I found I could really nail the Advanced Graffiti characters, and your routes helped immensely.

My scores were really close to the cut off in a few levels.

The only one I can give an update on is Fight or Flight, which I cleared Jet with 62030. I assume 62000 may be the cut off, not 64000?

Thanks for the great supplemental guide :applause:
