Volch0k
Hi. I bought my ps3 about month ago. Every now and then the picture just freezes, and i have to restart my ps3. Sometimes the sound remains, but thats not always. This issue I've had in several games, Uncharted, LBP and now Battlefield 1943. Its not to often, i tend to play 5-6 hours a day atm and its doesn't happen each day. But it worries me. Any thoughts what this might be?

Aidan
The internet shares a few remedies considering PS3 freezes: Turn off the notification bar from the top right corner of the XMB. (The thing that scrolls news) This will constantly look for updates, even while you're playing games, watching movies, etc. It's needless stress on your system, and this has solved people's freezing problems before. Unplug and replug the HDMI cables, component cables, AV cables, audio cables, etc. Any cables. Make sure you have at least 40-50% of your HDD free. A clogged HDD might cause system instability at times. Put your demos, music, movies and photos in folders. This will improve system performance, and result in faster boot-ups and higher reliability. Clean your game discs with a micro-fiber cloth, or anything soft. Make sure your system isn't in a small compartment, like a closed entertainment center. Give it a lot of air to breathe - don't smother it. Stay signed out of PSN. (stay offline) If this solves it, you have a network settings problem. If nothing works, and more google results yield no success, then you might simply have a defect console. Hell, mine broke 23 hours after I took it out of the box, so never say a brand new console is fool-proof. Freezing mostly occurs randomly if the heat-transfer compound between the Processor and Heatsink is dried up, or simply not there to begin with. my PS3 freezes too when i play GTA online... annoying Try to set all your internet settings to automatic, see if that works. If it's already on automatic, refer to the network settings sticky in this forum. It might just solve your problem. Wow, I didn't know that. That will be getting disabled next time I'm on the XMB. I never look at the damn thing anyway.

Aidan
I disable it asap, because the damn thing will always restart my router if on and cause more connection problems. A lot of people seem to have that problem too. So yeah, I'd definitely disable it.
