im going to be upgrading my hdd soon ive currently got a 60gb and im upgrading to either 250gb or 320gb but i have no external hdd to transfer whats on the hdd to the new one so i was just going to save my game saves to a 1gb usb memory stick would this work? (im not sure how the game saves work, ive herd they get corrupt)

then i was just going to put my account back on there and then just re-download all the psn stuff.

is there anything else im going to need from the old hdd?

thanks in advance

i apoligize if there is already a thread for this, ive looked but couldnt find one that answered these questions.

Yeah, you can do this. There's a few things you do have to do though.

1: Make sure the user account on your playstation is exactly the samed, or things won't work right. E.g. when I turn on the PS3, I log into "Dave". It has to be "Dave" on the new PS3 too.

2: Some games are protected. You can't copy them. It's shitty, but there's no way of getting them across with just a thumb drive.

If there's anything else, I'm sure someone will say.

Because some saved games are copy protected for no good reason, you won't be able to manually copy them file by file. The only way to preserve these saves is to use the HDD backup utility.

To fit on a 1GB stick, you'll probably need to delete all videos/music and installed Game Data, but be careful not to delete your Saved Data. Game saves are usually measured in KB so with a 1GB stick you should be fine.
