SteeplechaseFlourish
The three games in the upcoming collection are third-person platform- and adventure games featuring best friends Jak and Daxter. The first game offers a lot of different environments, from the beach to the jungle, the volcano to the swamp etc. It's a semi-sandbox game, and you are free to explore any of the places you unlock during progressing through the game, whenever you want. Jak 2 took a different turn, and offers a more mature experience, including guns and a dark eco feaure, which means Jak can turn into his alter ego when his dark eco meter is full. The game is set in Haven City, which is in great contrast to any of the places in the first game. It's a city on the brink of war, and it's your job to do something about it. Jak 3 is the last game that will feature in the collection. This game has even more guns, and in addition to dark eco, you now possess the ability to use light eco. It can be used to regain health, to fly short distances, to invoke a shield to cover yourself and so on. Haven City will again be a part of the game, in addition to a couple of other locations. It's not very different from the second game. All three games are open-world (as soon as you unlock the areas), and the themes of the games are cliché-like: Revenge, love, and save the planet. It's my three favourite games of all time, and I think it's too kind to put such a low price tag on them. Here's what the critics thought: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy for PlayStation 2 Reviews, Ratings, Credits, and More at Metacritic Jak II for PlayStation 2 Reviews, Ratings, Credits, and More at Metacritic Jak 3 for PlayStation 2 Reviews, Ratings, Credits, and More at Metacritic
dittyeating
that has got me interested a bit. my guess is that maybe naughty dog may be working on a jak and daxter 4 in place of uncharted 4 to give the uncharted games a break, so are there any games out there that jak and daxter are like?? are there great stories in these games.?? is the platforming like the uncharted games?? SteeplechaseFlourish
A lot of people say that Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter have much in common, but I have never played Ratchet and Clank, so I don't know. The story is decent, but it's a long time since I played these games, and I'm excited to see whether or not I will be as engrossed now as I was back then. The platforming is similar to many games, including Uncharted, but nowhere near as extraordinary with falling buildings, moving trains and sinking ships. DKsDragon
Such good games. The first is definitely more aimed towards a younger audience, but that doesn't detract from the value, it is an amazing game, at no point during the playing did I feel like I was just grinding, or was bored. The next two are more mature, but just as good. They add in guns and cars, and are much more graphics intensive, but still keep the essence that everyone loved from the first. I'd be shocked if any of the games got less than 9/10 from any reviewer.
Mann0802
This is one of Playstation's finest series and one of my personal favorites. The story is great and the characters are memorable. Give these a go I doubt you'd be disappointed.

I'm exactly the same. Played Crash and somehow missed out on these and then played Uncharted. I think I might wait and see what the reviews are and how much it costs before I make a decision. twelve
If you buy these expecting Uncharted then prepare for disappointment. Naughty Dog's history lies in Platformers. Crash Bandicoot and then Jak & Daxter. These are easily on par with Ratchet & Clank. Well worth getting but if you want more Uncharted you're better off with the Tomb Raider trilogy. Replace 'with the Tomb Raider trilogy' with 'getting Goldern Abyss and/or waiting for Uncharted 4'. Nothing comes close!
Viewtiful
As a whole, the trilogy is definitely superior to the Uncharted trilogy.
infavol
SteeplechaseFlourish gave a very good description of the Jak and Daxter Franchise. It was one of the first 3-D platforming games and offers a wide range of environments and people. The first is light-hearted and goes for more humor, but the second and third get darker and go for serious topics of the game's storyline. Ratchet & Clank is indeed a similar franchise, but is different in many ways. Naughty Dog and Insomniac are good friends as far as I can tell. They often put bits of each others games in these franchises. You won't be climbing ledges or throwing grenades (at least like what you would do in uncharted) but you will still have fun as you play this. Prometheus
Many have also named the Sly Cooper franchise as a contemporary to these great classics. The Sly Cooper trilogy was made by Sucker Punch, the company behind InFamous, and had its own "collection" release for the PS3.
dittyeating
wow. i think i will try these. working on my skyrim platinum at the minute, but when these come out i think i will defo get. what about trophies in these games. as its 3 games is that 3 platinums??? easy platinums or hard?? Jwblizzard
I missed out on all of the sly, ratchet and jak games during the PS2 days, until the day came that I played Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction. Then I realized that this kind of game isn't just for kids. I can't wait to get this collection. Looks super fun! As for the game itself, it has 3 platinums and they are likely pretty easy based on the first games trophy list and the sly collection. For a trophy hunter it's an easy sell. MMDE
I'm exactly the same. Played Crash and somehow missed out on these and then played Uncharted. I think I might wait and see what the reviews are and how much it costs before I make a decision. I do love ND though! If you liked Crash Bandicoot, then you will love this first game! I lost more and more interest as they moved away from the platforming and more against the shooting with the later games. The third game really wasn't that great in my opinion, and it sure will be the hardest to get the in, but doubt it will be a problem for me. Then the series ended on PS2 with the worst title Naughty Dog has ever done, Jak X, but that won't be in the collection I believe. Wedge19
Jak X Combat Racing is not included in the collection. It wasn't actually all that terrible and was actually pretty fun, from what I remember. A good racing game with combat elements... hence the name. But back on subject, the Jak trilogy were 3 of the best games on the PS2. Don't let the "Cartoony" look fool you. It's a lot better than any "childs" games. Defenitely has some darker themes at times.

I forget that people get scared by cartoony/childish look, and you're right, these games have a lot of dark themes in them, much more than for example Ratchet and Clank. tmay328
They're the best platformers I've ever played, with a bit of racing and third-person shooter thrown in for good measure. Even if they aren't your favorite, the games are still quite memorable and entertaining. Edited February 10, 2012 by tmay328
Jwblizzard
I would like to revoke my statement about them likely being 3 easy platinums. What I've been reading implies that Jak 2 is gonna be a pretty good challenge. Still gonna buy it. These sound great!
Layden87
The OP must be young is he doesn't know Jak and Daxter. As stated before this and Crash Bandicoot (The original PS mascot) were the first Naughty Dog games, the true Naughty Dog games. Uncharted is great, but this series is classic. MMDE
The OP must be young is he doesn't know Jak and Daxter. As stated before this and Crash Bandicoot (The original PS mascot) were the first Naughty Dog games, the true Naughty Dog games. Uncharted is great, but this series is classic. I believe their first game was Keef the Thief, even though Rings of Power is more famously known as their first game as far as I know. I remember it being the name of the very last level in the bonus world in Crash Bandicoot 3, some airplane level! PS1 pretty much had three mascots in the platformer genre, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Rayman. Rayman fell kind of off after a while, because they never released more games like the first, and Crash Bandicoot and Spyro was in 3D.
Layden87
I think Crash was more of the main mascot, he was in a lot of commercials. Remember the guy in the suit with the megaphone? Funny stuff.
