Amazing guide!

As expected, my NAT Type was unchanged (remained 2), but I had drastic changes in my download and upload speeds. Current test shows-

Download speed- 17.2 Mbps = :woop:

Upload speed- 780.3 kbps = :wtf:

I have a 3 Mbps broadband and use a TP-LINK router. When I hadn't fiddled around the ports my download and upload speeds were around 2 Mbps.

I have assigned a static IP to my PS3. Also, I have enabled UPnP on my router page and also on my PS3 though the test shows it as "Not Available". Why so? And is there a way I can increase the upload speed, without putting my PS3 in DMZ?

UPDATE- Just after posting I ran another test and now the upload speed is 2.9 Mbps. Does it keep varying? My download speeds stick around the same value.

well my nat type keeps changing from 2 when i put in the settings because it was type 3, and saved them, to 3 sometimes why is it doing this on my ps4

Do you have a static ip on your playstation? If the ip changes, your forwarding is going to the wrong place

Depends on your provider. Check at the same time every day and looks for consistency. Also if you are on cable modems, the more people on at the same time in your area can impact the quality. So late night it seems to work better.

Also do you have anything else on your internet? Remember your upstream is shared amongst all of your devices share the single pipe, so if something else is using the internet it can cause flux in your uploading

There are plenty of devices on my network, so that explains it. Dunno if I use a cable modem or not, the installation guy attached the ethernet cable near my telephone line and did some adjustments outside my flat in the stairwell.

I have two houses and in my first house it is very stable.

However, the second house in the countryside it is very temperamental, constantly changing.

It's more static at night then during the day.

Seeing your guide on how to get NAT1/2 it's very good, but you could add this:

This will only work for people that have a DSL connection e.g: ADSL, VDSL NOT CABLE!! It works on every handheld/console that can use PPPoE.

Setting up a NAT Typ1 PS3 connection with PPPoE:

0. Go to "network settings" -> "internet connection settings" -> select "Custom" -> choose "wireless" or "wired" -> if "wired" skip this step, for "wireless" "scan" for SSID or enter it manually then enter security settings

1. Choose "PPPoE" insert your current "username" and "password" you received this from your *DSL ISP, it's the same one you're using on your router to connect to the internet.

2. DNS settings: "auto"

3. MTU: "auto"

4. Proxy: "do not use"

5. UPnP: "disable" or "enable" -> choice doesn't really matter. But choose disable since you will not be on your local network any longer.

6. Test connection, everything should succeed and you should now have and forever will have a "NAT Type 1" no matter what. No more configuring your router or resetting it. Unless you change stuff of the above setting (SSID, security like a WPA(2) key..

This works on PS3/PS4/X360/X1 and PS Vita or other devices that support PPPoE connections..

For PS Vita:

Go to settings -> network Wi-Fi settings -> click on the connection your on -> click advanced settings -> click on "ip address" settings -> choose "PPPoE" -> enter your ISP "username" & "password" -> "test connection" settings

-> NAT Type 1 on PS Vita!

Be wary that your device will not be in your current local network as it will have a separate IP then your router "WAN ip". That means no mediacenter stuff, streaming, sharing over your network. But that a choice u have to decide to lose.

+Points:

- Works on almost every modern console except Wii U.

- NAT Type 1 forever

- Easy setup

-Points:

-No LAN: no mediacenter features usage.

-Does not work if u have a CABLE connection!!!

Correct. PPoE connection will take things over from your router such as NAT.

Incredible! It changed my NAT type to 1. Wow, 4 years no multiplayer. Now I'll get my beloved platinums. I was about to buy a new modem that supports port-forwarding but it seems there really is no need now. I saved €30 thanks to you. Great help man!

Yes... I was playing Red Dead last week and found that, dispite my NAT Type being type 2, I couldn't play online. As I didn't know what ports to forward in my router, I just set my PS3 in the router's DMZ.

I don't like it tho, as it you can have only one DMZ device in your network. It's like hiding the trash under the carpet. What if you had 2 PS3 on the same network? No!

When I get home I will try to forward those ports and see what happens...

Sorry I have read through all 15 pages so have not seen if this had been asked.

My PS4 is on NAT Type 3 and I am having trouble with my remote play and download speed, so will this work for my PS4 the same way or will I need to change different port or any thing like that?

I'm not having a connection problem but have a question. I've always had a router connected to my modem so had NAT 2. About six months ago I upgraded my internet so went ahead and got a wireless modem to get rid of the router and use a wired connection but still have NAT 2. I was under the impression a wired connection and no router would be NAT 1, is that not always the case?

I have tried a million different things to get my PS4 to NAT Type 2 and every one has failed. I tried the method in the OP and could not figure it out. I've attached a screenshot. I set up my connection with custom IP address 192.168.1.99. The modem I am using is Netgear WNDR3400v3. The majority of my friends I can still party chat with but I cannot party chat with one in particular and it is very frustrating. Please help!

EDIT: My party audio works perfectly fine now, even though my NAT type is still showing NAT Type 3. I hadn't tested it since I posted this, I just assumed it didn't work because I was still showing NAT Type 3. It must have been what I did in the attached picture. So I thank you, OP!

EDIT2: After further review, it appears the issue has NOT been resolved. What I have discovered is that I cannot chat with this friend if he or I create the party, but if I join another friends party, and then he joins, we can chat with each other. Or, conversely, if he joins one of his friends parties, and then I join that party, we can chat. This is FRUSTRATING, erggghh! Any advice?

Borrow a different router and test your network if you have a nat 3 again I guess your ISP the blocking you somehow strong firewall / closed doors
