INTRODUCTION

Frank West is back, in Dear Rising 2: Off the Record. This is essentially the exact same game as Dead Rising 2, with a few exceptions. Most notably, this game marks a return of Frank West's photography game-mechanic, and the addition of an all new Sandbox Mode. Sandbox Mode has no timers or story, but contains challenges to complete. There is one new area to explore, the Uranus Zone, and a couple of new boss fights. You can also find a few new outfits, weapons and combo cards.

OVERVIEW

The trophies for DR2:OTR are far less involved than DR2. There are only a few trophies that are specific to the Story Mode, so most can be earned in either Sandbox or Story Mode. Challenges can only be found in Sandbox Mode.

All stats (upgrades, skills, money, PP earned, etc.) will carry over between Story and Sandbox Modes within the same save slot. For example, you can quit Story Mode, upgrade you character and earn money in Sandbox, and when you reload Story, you will have more money and upgrades. However, inventory items do NOT transfer between the two modes, so you can't switch to Sandbox to get better weapons and magazines to bring back to Story Mode. The zombies killed counter resets for each Story playthrough, but will not for Sandbox (as long as you do not restart Sandbox Mode with new game+).

Magazines and Special Outfits are very helpful in this game.

BTHR Zero X has created a great Magazine Guide and Outfit Guide.

STORY RELATED TROPHIES

Other than for some specific trophies, you don't really need to save any survivors, but you do earn alot of PP for getting them to join you, and more if you get them back to the Safe House. I made it to Level 50 after only two Story playthroughs, and other than taking random photos, I didn't go out of my way to gain PP. All I did was save people and kill psychopaths. I recommend playing through the Story first if you're new to the game, and if not, then just to become reacquainted with the game (note that there is some differences as to where some of the survivors appear), but do things however you want.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/29.jpg (B) Powered Up

Restore power to the Yucatan Casino

After leaving the Safe House for the very first time, there will be a psychopath named Ted, with a tiger named Snowflake in the Yucatan Casino. After killing Ted, you need to deal with Snowflake, by either taming or killing her. You'll then find Lenny in the office behind the front desk. Talk to him, and he'll lead you to, and unlock, a room where you can turn power back on.

See Tiger Tamer for additional information.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/50.jpg (B) Tiger Tamer

Have Snowflake attack and damage a psychopath

Snowflake is the tiger found with psychopath Ted in the Yucatan Casino. After killing Ted, you'll need to tame Snowflake in order to make her follow you. They are available at the very start of the game, after leaving the Safe House for the first time.

One problem here is that Snowflake can't be left behind like other survivors; she'll come with you if you enter a different area, but some of the earlier cases will require you to return to the Safe House. The next psychopath available is the one riding a motorcycle during the mission “People Like Us.” Occurs 25th at about 15:00h, so wait until then to tame her, (or just ignore the cases and restart after getting the trophy).

If you're having trouble taming her with meat, there's an easier way. After killing Ted, leave the Yucatan. If you return a few hours later, you'll get a cutscene where you tame her automatically.

Unfortunately, when I tried to replicate this by going in and out of Yucatan to find out at which time she'll be tamed automatically, it didn't work out. But in a few playthroughs, I would start the game by going straight to kill Ted (even before getting Zombrex at the pharmacy), and leaving Snowflake there. I know it would work when entering from the Food Court on my way to get Kenneth and Jack in Shank's (P107) after 11:00h.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/51.jpg (G) Alpha Vs. Omega

Have Denyce attack and damage Sgt Boykin

Denyce is in the pharmacy where you are sent on your very first mission, to get Zombrex. You'll need to have her follow you throughout the entire Story Mode, until you fight Sgt Boykin in Case 7-2. You can give her food if her health gets low, and she will also use many weapons. You'll need to complete all Case files in order to get to Sgt Boykin.

Be warned that after completing Case 6-1, you and any survivors you have with you will automatically be transported back to the Safe House, so before entering the elevator in Fortune City Hotel, make sure her health is full, and have her wait outside in Fortune Park. You'll have to quickly complete Case 6-1, and make it back to the Strip before she dies. To complete Case 6-1 quicker, have your inventory full of items you can throw at the helicopter, aiming for the rotors for higher damage.

If you want to save other survivors, I've noticed that Denyce is usually last in line to get back to the Safe House entrance, especially when travelling from the other end of Royal Flush Plaza. You can wait by a set of doors in the hallway, and place a marker ahead of you (hold :l2:, :triangle:). As your survivors run past you, close the doors preventing Denyce from getting to the Safe House vent.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/45.jpg (B) Cramped Quarters

Get 8 survivors into a vehicle

You need to have 8 survivors following you at once, and get into the clown car. For the first day or so, the clown car is found in Silver Strip near the entrance to Slot Ranch Casino. It will later be found in Uranus Zone, near the entrance to Fortune Park. After the clown appears in Platinum Strip near the arena, that's where it will be found.

If you find it difficult juggling survivors while trying to complete cases or other objectives, save this trophy for a separate playthrough and ignore all cases.

STORY RELATED TROPHIES Continued

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/48.jpg (B) Purewal Memorial Cup

Don’t consume any meat, dairy or alcohol until the military arrives

Fairly simple, though some food items may be questionable. I recommend consuming nothing but Orange Juice. On one playthrough, I ate one Snack, and one Apple (other than Orange Juice). I ended up not getting the trophy, but I also wasn't completing case files, so when the military arrived, the game ended after a cutscene. See http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/dead-rising-2-off-record/129216-purewal-memorial-cup-problem.html for discussion on this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/06.jpg (B) Raw Emotion

Take a photo of a survivor in a very dramatic situation

For this trophy, you need to take a photo that is worth 1000 PP or more in the Drama category. There are several opportunities during Story Mode to take such a photo. Any time you find survivors being overwhelmed by zombies, take a photo before intervening. Make sure to zoom in on the person being attacked.

A good spot early in the game is during the mission “Welcome to the Family.” It takes place on the 25th at 11:00h. At Shank's (P107), you'll find Kenneth fighting a horde of zombies, with Jack standing in the back.

Or, take a photo of Terri and Willa being during “An Industrial Fashion” at 02:00h on the 26th.

If you're still having trouble, the best opportunity I've found is an unmarked mission that takes place in Palisades Mall. On the 26th at about 04:00h, you'll find two guys (Marc and Earvin) in Palisades Mall hanging from the second floor railings on either side of the Grotto. Taking a picture of either of them will get you up to 1500 PP alone for Drama.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/30.jpg (B) Out With the Old

Defeat the motorcycle-riding psychopath [story Mode Only]

When this psychopath appears, you'll be given the mission “People Like Us.” Occurs 25th at 15:00h. If using a ranged weapon, fire as he comes straight for you, then move out his way (click :l3: to roll). If using a melee weapon, dodge his attacks until he spins around in place. Run around him, and when he stops spinning, hit him from behind.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/27.jpg (B) No Zombies in the Vents

Unlock the secret shortcut

The secret shortcut is opened during the mission “Wilted Flower.” It occurs on the 26th at about 13:15h. You'll find Linette in The Venus Touch (P109). Giver her something to drink, and she'll direct you to a shortcut back to Royal Flush Plaza from Brand New U (P203)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/21.jpg (B) Drugged Up

Take a dose of Zombrex

After leaving the Safe House for the first time, the first mission you get is to find Zombrex. Wait until the game tells you to take the dose, at 07:00h. An on-screen prompt will tell you when you need to take Zombrex.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/22.jpg (B) Save the Girl

Rescue a damsel in distress from the Twin Terrors

Awarded for completing Case 5-2: Kidnapped! This is the mission where you fight the infamous twins. You'll need one million dollars to start this mission. Occurs: 27th at 19:00h.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/23.jpg (B) Save the Girl… Again

Save the damsel in distress a second time

Awarded for completing Case 7-2: The Last Stand. This is the fight against Sgt Boykin.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/26.jpg (B) Save the Girl… Yet Again

Save a damsel in distress for the third and final time

Awarded for completing Overtime. To get to Overtime, you need to give Zombrex to TK prior to completing the case The Facts at the end of the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/28.jpg (B) Team Player

Avert a mutiny

This involves completing a fetch quest from survivor Richard. He can be found in Chris' Fine Foods (P216), during mission “Hunger Pains” on the 27th at 10:00h. You need to take him back to the Safe House, and at about 15:00h you'll get called back to speak with him. He's getting 'frustrated' and you need to bring him a magazine from Hot Excitorama (N110). Note that you can grab the magazine prior to speaking with him to save time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/24.jpg (B) Technological Terror

Destroy a “harvester”

Harvesters are the large pod things that you need to destroy during the case The Facts. There are several of them along the Strip, each guarded by three mercs, one of which fires at you with a BFG. This section of the game can be difficult, but I've found a good strategy. Go straight for the SUV, then drive to the underground entrance past Luaii Wauwii (N105), where you'll find Sgt Woo and Pvt Kuss. Get in the SUV and drive to each harvester; they're easy to spot because of their health meter. Park the SUV on top of the guard with the BFG so he won't be firing at you, hop out, and quickly destroy the harvester with a spiked bat (or similar weapon). You can ram them, but that will damage the SUV too much, and take too much time. While beating a harvester, it will make explosions, so make sure the harvester is completely destroyed by checking it's health meter before moving on. You should be able to destroy all the harvesters before the SUV breaks down. Try not to hit your personal soldiers, as you can't give them food. If you want to save the two soldiers, bring them back to the Safe House before moving on to Uranus Zone (they're useless there anyway).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/25.jpg (B) True Colors

Defeat the mastermind of the Fortune City incident

Awarded after completing the case The Facts. See Technological Terror for a strategy for the first part. For the boss fight in Uranus Zone, bring some good melee weapons, and strike the claws after they hit the ground. Quick Step might be useful here, but I didn't use any. This fight may take a while, so make sure you start early to have enough time to complete The Facts.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/46.jpg (B) Party Time

Get a survivor drunk

Alcohol (beer, wine, etc.) counts as food items, which you can give to most survivors. You cannot give them any food though if their health is full, so wait until they get attacked, or attack them yourself. Note that if you attack them too much, they will turn on you, so be gentle.

NON-STORY RELATED TROPHIES

The following trophies can be earned in either Story or Sandbox Mode

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/35.jpg (B) Dominoes

Use the Jump Kick to knock down 100 zombies

The Jump Kick skill move is available from the start of the game. Jump with :cross: and press :square: while in the air. Note that you only have to knock them down, not kill them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/13.jpg (B) BFF

Use the Snapshot skill move on a zombie

The Snapshot skill move is unlocked at Level 7. Hold :r2: and press :r1: near a zombie.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/07.jpg (B) Full Camera

Fill your camera’s memory

This one is easy, just take lots of photos. Your camera only holds 30 photos.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/03.jpg (B) Photo Journalist

Get back in the game by gaining lots of PP from pictures

I've tested this out, and it unlocks after earning10,000 PP from taking photographs.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/47.jpg (B) Puking Rally

Have a zombie slip in a puddle of vomit

If you consume more than 2 or 3 alcoholic drinks, you will get sick. Do this near some zombies, wait for them to slip on your vomit. Note that wearing the Sports Fan outfit will prevent you from getting sick.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/12.jpg (B) Camera Crazy

Take a picture of a psychopath

The earliest time to do this is after leaving the Safe House for the very first time, there will be a psychopath named Ted, with a tiger named Snowflake in the Yucatan Casino. Psychopaths spawn in Sandbox Mode as well.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/04.jpg (B) Adult Content

Take an extremely erotic picture

For this trophy, you need to take a photo that is worth 1000 PP or more in the Erotic category. There are several opportunities during Story Mode. I got it by taking a photo of Europa, but the easiest way is the Alien Probe method:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6PJAqL4-Wo]Dead Rising 2: Off The Record - Adult Content Trophy / Achievement Guide - YouTube[/ame]

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/05.jpg (B) Mixed Messages

Take a picture with elements of horror, brutality, outtake and erotica in a single shot

I somehow managed to get this accidentally while taking random pictures, so I wasn't sure how to easily replicate this. I've found a good video, though:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IU7tqotvu4]Dead Rising 2: Off The Record - Adult Content, Raw Emotion, Mixed Messages - YouTube[/ame]

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/08.jpg (B) Nice Shot

Photograph a PP sticker

See Award Winning Photography.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/09.jpg (S) Photo Album

Photograph 25 PP stickers

See Award Winning Photography.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/10.jpg (G) Award Winning Photography

Photograph 75 PP stickers

There are several tiny PP stickers hidden around Fortune City. This can be done in Story or Sandbox Mode (if being done in Story, PP sticker progress does NOT carry over to subsequent playthroughs). PowerPyx has an excellent guide at http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/dead-rising-2-off-record/128862-video-guides-walkthrough.html.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/36.jpg (B) Prestigious PP

Get over 2,000 PP from a single zombie kill

The best method for this trophy is to build a Boomstick, and kill a zombie with the heavy attack (hold :square:). See http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/dead-rising-2-off-record/131850-sandbox-mode-challenge-guide.html#post2251532 for detailed instructions

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/39.jpg (B) Card Collection

Collect 20 combo cards

See Card Archive.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/40.jpg (B) Card Archive

Collect 50 combo cards

There are a total of 65 combo cards. 30 combo cards will be earned by reaching Level 50, the rest from getting gold on challenges, hidden posters, saving certain survivors, and defeating certain psychopaths. If you still need help finding some, check out discussion at http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/dead-rising-2-off-record/129594-combo-cards.html.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/48.jpg (B) Frank West: Cross Dresser

Dress up completely in women’s clothing

There are several women's clothing stores around. Make sure you're wearing a dress, women's shoes, and a hat at the same time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/37.jpg (B) Maintaining the City

Visit 10 different maintenance rooms

This one is really easy, as there almost 30 maintenance rooms in the game. You just need to enter them, you don't even need to make weapons.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/38.jpg (B) New Hotness

Build one of the combo weapons new to Dead Rising 2: Off The Record

A great place to do this is at the save point in Fortune Park, by combining the Grass Trimmer + Chef Knife.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/42.jpg (B) We Have a Winner!

Play a carney game and win

There are several carney games in the centre of Uranus Zone. The easiest seems to be the one with the 3 space girls moving around, with aliens in the background. Break all 3 aliens, and you win. You don't even need to break them all in one go; if you miss one, just buy more weapons.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/44.jpg (B) Safety Check: Failed

Use the amusement park rides to kill 10 zombies at once

This one is pretty easy. Go to Uranus Zone, and use Firecrackers to lure zombie onto the UFO Crash ride, then activate the ride.

Can be done in Story Mode as well, but see “Killer Rides” challenge at http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/dead-rising-2-off-record/131850-sandbox-mode-challenge-guide.html for more details.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/41.jpg (B) Hands of Doom

Unlock all skill moves

The final skill move is unlocked once you reach Level 47.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/31.jpg (B) Prom Night

Kill 69 zombies [Host Only]

See Six Digits?!?

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/32.jpg (B) Elite Killer

Kill 1337 zombies [Host Only]

See Six Digits?!?

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/33.jpg (B) Luggage Code

Kill 12,345 zombies [Host Only]

See Six Digits?!?

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/34.jpg (G) Six Digits?!?

Kill 100,000 zombies [Host Only]

I'm not sure if it's even possible to get 100,000 kills in a story playthrough, but fortunately, the kill counter does not reset in Sandbox Mode (as long as you do not restart Sandbox Mode with new game+). The most efficient killing you can do is to build a Slicycle (combine a Chainsaw with a Motorcycle) and drive around the Strip, but it breaks down quickly. If you want to grind this one out, use the SUV. To break up the monotony, I would suggest while doing the single player challenges, do at least a few thousand kills between each challenge.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/995/02.jpg (B) Photo School

Take a high PP value picture

Take a photo worth over 1000 PP. This can be done early, when you first get to use the camera. Take photos of TK and the other guy the yellow PP symbols flash above their head. Otherwise, there are plenty of opportunities later.

Get a medal on a challenge in Sandbox Mode

Very good guide mate, only have the 100k kills left myself but will be of use to those just starting.

Just wanted to add for We Have a Winner! if you go to one of the stands as you come in the main entrance which has a load of hotdogs on the counter, eat them and the trophy will pop.

In addition, as you say the slicycle is the more effective killing vehicle for grinding zombie kills, more so if you use the motorcycle magazine located on some crates in the underground entrance by the yucatan.

Awesome guide man! I Was going to do this after I'd recived my 100k kills trophy but I'm still working on, I found the best way for it is too start the challenge "Off road" I think Its called, And start from the casino and drive a lap of fortune city (Average 2000 kills) and returning to the challenge and replaying it so all zombie Re-spawn.
