  • Glitched trophies: 1 - Mortal Validation

Introduction

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is an action role-playing game (RPG) in the Final Fantasy series of video games. It is a high-definition remaster of the PSP game of the same name. It is part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis subseries of Final Fantasy games, and thus shares a common mythos with Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV.

It is structured slightly differently than most Final Fantasy games, and is split into distinct phases: main storyline missions, and side quest free time. During your free time, there is a time management mechanic in place that prevents you from taking on too many side quests at a time (though this mechanic does not take place in real time like Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, but rather each quest and action uses a specified amount of time). During the main storyline quests you are not restricted in the same way, but your performance is graded at the end of each mission.

It is a much quicker game to platinum than any of the other Final Fantasy games, and almost all of the trophies will be obtained naturally as the player plays through the game. Indeed, the most challenging part of obtaining the game's platinum trophy is completing the game itself, which is fairly challenging.

General Tips and Tricks

Keep the following tips in mind as you play through the game:

  • Dodge a lot. To dodge, press :circle:. This will be the main thing keeping you alive most of the time, and there is a trophy awarded for dodging 500 times (Emergency Evasion).
  • Keep multiple save files. Some of the missions in the game are quite long, and once a character dies, they are no longer usable until the mission is over. You don't want to get stuck at the final boss of a chapter with only one character who is under-leveled. Furthermore, there is a point of no return in Chapter 7 of the game, so you want to have a save file from before that point as well.
  • Level up several characters, not just your three favourites. Many of the late-game missions split up your party, and there are some places where the game will instantly kill whichever character you are currently controlling, so you need quite a few strong characters.
  • There is an infinite XP exploit that can get your characters to level 99 in about 30 minutes. See the video at Hard Work's Reward for details.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Play through the game up until Chapter 7

First, play through the game up until you finish the first mission in Chapter 7. This is the point of no return for the game, and many trophies will be locked out once you start the second mission of Chapter 7, so make sure that you create a separate save file at that point.

You can play on any difficulty setting you like, so feel free to choose Cadet (the easiest difficulty) if you want. You will earn the vast majority of the game's trophies just by playing through the game, but there is one missable trophy that you should keep in mind during this step: (S) One Big Happy Flock.

Also try to earn Secret of Souls as you play through the game so that you don't have to grind for it later on. After this step, you should earn all of the following trophies, and likely a few more miscellaneous ones as well:

(B) Enter Class Zero

(B) Shots Fired

(B) Expanding the Theater

(B) A Frantic Flight

(B) War of the Wyverns

(B) The Forbidden Savior

(B) Communing with the Gods

(B) Skilled Slayer

(S) The Executioner

(B) A Simple Skirmish

(S) A Full-Scale War

(B) The White Tiger Roars

(B) Taming the White Tiger

Step 2: Get other missable trophies

Once you reach the point of no return, there are a few missable trophies that you should make sure that you have unlocked. Check the requirements for each of the following trophies, and earn them before proceeding:

(B) The Great Liberator

(B) The Hunted Becomes the Hunter

(S) Total Domination

(B) The Ark of Agito

(B) Master Marksman

(B) Rookie Wrangler

(S) The Chocobo Whisperer

(B) Hard Work's Reward

(B) Teacher's Pet

(B) Moogle Mingler

Step 3: Complete the game

Now simply finish the game. In this step, you will earn:

(S) Conclusion to Combat

(G) What Lies Beyond

Step 4: Mission select and preliminary clean-up

At this point, you can clean up a lot of trophies that you may have missed via mission select. Do this to earn any of the following trophies that you have missed:

(G) An Army of One

(S) A Lonely Battle

(B) A Select Few

(B) Beastmaster

(B) Perfect Marks

(S) Miraculous Mission

(B) Mission Master

(B) Mortal Validation

(B) Top Form in the Field

(B) Collateral Damage

(B) Forced Charity

(B) Imperial Investigation

Step 5: Clean-up, and possibly a second playthrough

You can now clean up any miscellaneous combat-related trophies that you have left by loading your save file from the point of no return (but it is unlikely that you will need to). If you want to start a second playthrough to clean up any missables that you missed or earn The Beastmaster, do so. Once you have finished this step, you should earn Agito Achieved (P).

Trophy Guide:

3df.jpg  Agito Achieved (P)

Obtained all trophies.

This trophy is awarded for earning all trophies in the game.

33d.jpg  Miraculous Mission (S)

Completed a mission without allowing any casualties.

If you play the game on Cadet difficulty (the easiest difficulty setting), you will almost definitely earn this trophy naturally as you play through the game. You can earn it early in Chapter 2 to make it easy on yourself, since by that point you will have learned how the game works, but the missions will still be fairly straightforward. Simply do not let any of your characters die during a mission. Note that characters dying while equipped with auto re-raise do count as deaths that void this trophy, which means that you are unlikely to earn this trophy in Chapter 1. If you would like to see a video guide for this trophy, see Top Form in the Field.

c80.jpg  Mystery of Magic (B)

Harvested 100 phantoma.

After you defeat an enemy, you can lock onto them with :r1: and then press :square: to harvest "phantoma" from them. This restores some of your MP and also damages nearby enemies. Do this 100 times to unlock this trophy. Focus on doing this continuously as you play through the game and you should earn this trophy very early. See also Secret of Souls.

861.jpg  Secret of Souls (B)

Harvested 500 phantoma.

See Mystery of Magic. If you regularly harvest phantoma (which you should), you will likely earn this trophy somewhere around Chapter 3 or 4.

5f0.jpg  Skilled Slayer (B)

Landed Killsight strikes on 20 enemies.

When locked onto an enemy with :r1:, every now and then the blue lock-on cursor will change to yellow or red. If you successfully attack them while the cursor is one of these different colors, you will either deal massive damage or instantly kill them – this is a Killsight strike. Do this 20 times to unlock the trophy. Note that this trophy will almost definitely unlock naturally very early on in the game (around Chapter 2 or so), even if you don't actively try to land Killsight strikes. Also see The Executioner.

d4d.jpg  The Executioner (S)

Landed Killsight strikes on 100 enemies.

See Skilled Slayer. This trophy will almost definitely come naturally while playing through the game, even if you don't actively try to land Killsight strikes. Most people earn it around Chapter 3 or 4.

2bc.jpg  A Simple Skirmish (B)

Defeated 100 enemies.

Unmissable. You will have to defeat far more than 100 enemies throughout the course of the game. You will likely earn this trophy early in Chapter 2. See also A Full-Scale War.

873.jpg  A Full-Scale War (S)

Defeated 300 enemies.

Unmissable. You will have to defeat far more than 300 enemies throughout the course of the game. You will likely earn this trophy sometime in Chapter 2 or Chapter 3.

b97.jpg  The White Tiger Roars (B)

Took down 20 imperial soldiers.

Unmissable. You will fight far more than 20 imperial soldiers even in the very first chapter of this game, so this will likely be the first trophy that you earn.

Also see Taming the White Tiger.

d3f.jpg  Taming the White Tiger (B)

Took down 100 imperial soldiers.

Unmissable. You will fight far more than 100 imperial soldiers as you play through the game. You will likely earn this trophy sometime around Chapter 2. Also see The White Tiger Roars.

4fb.jpg  Make Mother Proud (B)

Completed an SO.

In Akademeia, use the giant red portal to go to the Sorcery area. There, talking to one of the characters will let you enable something called "SO"s. Enable them.

Then, every now and then while you are on a mission, a big red notification will appear on screen that says "Incoming". Press your PS4 controller's :touchpad: to see a battle challenge that you must complete. Complete it to earn this trophy.

See also Above the Law.

68e.jpg  Roaming Terror (B)

Won an encounter in the overworld.

Shortly after you start Chapter 2, you will be introduced to the overworld -- the large "zoomed out" part of the game that lets you walk between different cities. As you walk around on the overworld, you will occasionally be randomly entered into a battle with some enemies. Simply win the battle to earn this trophy. Note that you will naturally enters dozens of overworld battles over the course of the game. The only way to not obtain this trophy is if you flee from all of them. See also The Hunted Becomes the Hunter and Total Domination.

3eb.jpg  The Hunted Becomes the Hunter (B)

Won 50 encounters in the overworld.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

See Roaming Terror. As long as you do not flee from most overworld battles and do not always use a chocobo on the overworld, you should obtain this trophy naturally as you play through the game. However, it may require some grinding for some people, so make sure you earn it before the point of no return in Chapter 7.

701.jpg  New Recruit (B)

Cleared 3 missions.

Unmissable. As you play through the game, you will be prompted to start many missions. Some of these are optional and can be declined, but many of them are mandatory and required to progress the story. You will earn this trophy sometime during Chapter 2.

906.jpg  Mission Master (B)

Cleared 15 missions.

For this trophy, simply play through 15 missions. Importantly, you can re-play missions, and those re-plays count toward this trophy. So if you still don't have this trophy by the time you have all other trophies, simply re-play the very first mission from Chapter 2 (the one where you infiltrate McTighe) until you earn this trophy.

465.jpg  Above the Law (S)

Avoided the penalty for failing an SO.

Once an SO starts (see Make Mother Proud), fail the SO. This will prompt a death :circle: to appear under you. Dodge out of it several times in order to avoid death and earn this trophy. You may want to use a character whose dodge ability you can upgrade (such as Ace) in order to make this easier on yourself.

941.jpg  Collector of Memories (B)

Collected 5 Knowing Tags.

When walking around mission areas, you will sometimes see white sparkles. If you approach those sparkles and press :cross:, you will pick up an item. Sometimes it will be a piece of equipment, sometimes it will be an item like a Hi-Potion, and sometimes it will be a Knowing Tag. Note that Knowing Tags are most frequently found by dead bodies. You need to get five Knowing Tags to earn this trophy. If you search areas thoroughly, you can earn this as early as Chapter 2. See also Mortal Validation.

3e1.jpg  Mortal Validation (B)

Collected 25 Knowing Tags.

Just like for Collector of Memories, press :cross: next to white sparkles to collect Knowing Tags. You very well may only have 8 – 10 of these by the time you finish Chapter 7, so you might be worried about gathering 25 of them. However, you don't need to worry because:

There are at least 10 Knowing Tags to find right at the start of Chapter 8, and

You can gather extra Knowing Tags by re-playing missions via mission select. You can even just re-gather the same Knowing Tag over and over again until the trophy unlocks.

This trophy is slightly glitchy: some players have to collect far more than 25 tags before it unlocks.

f38.jpg  The Ark of Agito (B)

Acquired the airship "Setzer."

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

This trophy cannot be earned until you are at the point of no return in Chapter 7 (i.e., you must have completed the first mission in Chapter 7 before attempting this trophy). Also, your party should be fairly strong (level 40 or so) before attempting this trophy (see the infinite XP exploit under Hard Work's Reward if you need help leveling up).

To obtain this trophy:

  • Complete the first mission of Chapter 7.
  • Talk to the person who offers Expert Trials in the Main Gate area of Akademia. Accept the Expert Trial called "Operation Homecoming" (it has a suggested level of 37).
  • On the overworld, go to the marked region and complete the Expert Trial.
  • This will unlock a town called Bazz. Go into Bazz, and go straight to the back of the area, where there is a woman who has a Task for you to complete. Accept the Task.
  • Go back to the overworld and go one region to the south.
  • In this new region, your goal is the cave at the south end, but there are several level 99 Behemoth Kings in the way. Ride your best chocobo and avoid all of the Behemoth Kings.
  • Once inside the cave, you will enter a grounded airship. There are 7 level 44 Iron Giants in this grounded airship, and you must defeat them all (this is why your party should be at least somewhat strong before attempting this trophy).
  • Once you have defeated all 7 Iron Giants and activated the 4 switches inside the airship, go to the very front of the airship.
  • Once you interact with the panel at the front of the airship, this trophy unlocks.
  • Once you have the airship unlocked, you can now easily earn Master Marksman as well.

4d8.jpg  Rookie Wrangler (B)

Captured a chocobo.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

See The Chocobo Whisperer.

6b2.jpg  The Chocobo Whisperer (S)

Captured 30 chocobos.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

While roaming around the overworld, you will sometimes see chocobos walking around. If you mount on one of your chocobos (by pressing :cross: + :square:) then you will be able to move fast enough to catch up to the wild chocobos (you can lock onto the wild chocobos with :r1: to make this easier). Once you have caught up with them, press the :square: button to capture the wild chocobo.

Doing this once will earn you Rookie Wrangler, and doing it 30 times will earn you this trophy. You can easily farm this in the Togoreth area of the overworld, since 4 or 5 chocobos spawn in that area. After you have captured them, leave and come back, and the chocobos will have re-spawned.

See the following video guide:

c12.jpg  Eggs-citing Development (B)

Hatched 5 chocobos at the chocobo ranch.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

From the Entrance of Akademeia, use the big red portal to teleport to the Chocobo Ranch. Once you are there, you can breed chocobos (as long as you have made it far enough in Chapter 2 to unlock breeding). To breed chocobos, talk to the man at the right-hand side as you enter the chocobo pen area. He will explain breeding to you: you choose a male chocobo, a female chocobo, and a type of food for the chocobos, and then they breed and produce several new chocobos for you.

After you choose your options and decide to breed, you need to wait 6 in-game hours before the eggs hatch and turn into actual chocobos. Fortunately, you don't just get one chocobo at a time; a typical breed will give you 4 or so chocobos, and this can be increased to about 8 if you select Gyzahl Greens (not to be confused with Gysahl Greens!) when breeding. After your first 5 chocobos hatch, you will get this trophy.

See also One Big Happy Flock.

b12.jpg  One Big Happy Flock (S)

Hatched 100 chocobos at the chocobo ranch.

Missable: start working toward this trophy early in the game.

See Eggs-citing Development, except you now need to hatch 100 chocobos instead of just 5. Work toward this trophy as you play through the game (starting from when breeding becomes unlocked halfway through Chapter 2), as every 4 – 8 chocobos requires 6 hours of game time.

0ed.jpg  Hard Work's Reward (B)

Completed a secret training session.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

For this trophy, go to the Arena inside Akademeia. Once there, talk to the trainer on the right. This will prompt you to start a "secret training session", for which you will have to save your game and then re-load your save file at a later time. To earn this trophy, start a training secret training session some night before you go to bed, and then when you load your save file the next day, the session will be done and this trophy will unlock.

Alternatively, you can start the secret training session, then set your PS4's clock forward by a day or so, and then load your save file, which will earn you this trophy (and a lot of experience) almost instantly. In fact, you can repeat this trick as many time as you like in order to level up your characters (all the way to level 99) extremely quickly.

See the following video guide:

068.jpg  Practice Makes Perfect (B)

Defeated a total of 20 enemies in combat simulation sessions.

See Practice Pays Off.

7d7.jpg  Practice Pays Off (B)

Defeated a total of 100 enemies in combat simulation sessions.

After you progress a bit in Chapter 2 (and at any point later than that in the game), you will be able to return to the arena, where you will see two people you can talk to. If you speak with the person on the left, you can enter a never-ending combat challenge, where you practice fighting against enemies. You must defeat 100 of these fake enemies to earn this trophy (see also Practice Makes Perfect).

A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • You can die as much as you want in the arena with no penalty. You do not need to defeat all 100 enemies at once. You even keep experience and Phantomas earned after you die.
  • Enemies you kill in the arena count towards trophies such as A Full-Scale War and Taming the White Tiger, so you will likely earn at least a few other battle-related trophies at this time.
  • You can also work toward many other combat-related trophies at this time, including Secret of Souls, Emergency Evasion, and The Executioner.

See the following video guide:

5a1.jpg  The Great Liberator (B)

Liberated and visited all cities in the Dominion of Rubrum.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

Contrary to this trophy's description, you do not actually have to liberate all cities: there are "sortie" missions and "Expert Trial" missions that liberate cities, but even if you do not participate in these missions, the cities still become liberated. You just need to visit each city after they are liberated. The cities that matter for this trophy are (in the order in which you can unlock them):

  • McTighe (unlocked as part of a story mission in Chapter 2)
  • Aqvi (unlocked as part of the Chapter 2 sortie mission)
  • Corsi (unlocked as part of the Chapter 2 sortie mission)
  • Keziah (unlocked in Chapter 3)
  • Mi-Go (unlocked in Chapter 3)
  • Iscah (unlocked as part of a story mission in Chapter 3)
  • Rokol (unlocked in Chapter 3)
  • Meroe (unlocked in Chapter 5)
  • Toguagh (unlocked in Chapter 5)

After you step foot in Toguagh, the trophy should unlock.

OPS1Wh3.jpg  Teacher's Pet (B)

Sat in on one of Moglin's lectures.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

After completing the first mission in Chapter 2, you can return to Classroom Zero (your home classroom) and talk to Mog, who should have an exclamation mark (!) over his head. When you talk with him, you will be given the option of listening to him lecture. Do so (choose any lecture) to earn this trophy.

Note that you should return to Mog to listen to lectures frequently throughout the game, as they grant your characters permanent stat boosts.

d35.jpg  Moogle Mingler (B)

Talked with the moogles from all thirteen classes.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

There are 13 Moogles scattered around Akademeia that you must speak with in order to unlock this trophy. Their locations are as follows:

  • Zeroth (Moglin): Classroom Zero
  • First: Fountain Courtyard
  • Second: Central Command
  • Third: Terrace
  • Fourth: Airship Landing
  • Fifth: Entrance
  • Sixth: Main Gate
  • Seventh: Lounge
  • Eighth: Entrance
  • Ninth: Crystarium
  • Tenth: Airship Landing
  • Eleventh: Armory
  • Twelfth: Ready Room

fff.jpg  Top Form in the Field (B)

Completed a mission using only Primed cadets.

When starting a mission, you are given the option of choosing which cadets will take place in the mission. Some of these cadets will sometimes be highlighted with a yellow background – these cadets are "Primed" and will perform particularly well on that mission. To earn this trophy, simply only select these primed cadets to play the mission. Note that it is a good idea to primarily use Primed cadets in general, even after earning this trophy.

This trophy can naturally be earned at the same time as Perfect Marks and/or Miraculous Mission, and it is convenient to earn it early in Chapter 2. See the following video guide:

857.jpg  Collateral Damage (B)

Defeated an enemy with the explosion from a fuel tank.

Fuel tanks are scattered throughout many places in the game, most notably Chapters 2, 3, and 4, and you can't miss them (when you lock onto them, they say "Fuel Tank"). This trophy will almost definitely come naturally as you play through the game, but if it doesn't, just replay the first mission from Chapter 2 (where you invade McTighe). Once you reach the area with the final boss of this mission, there is a fuel tank directly behind the boss near the center of the area. Try to lure an enemy near it, and then blow it up.

a00.jpg  Forced Charity (B)

Searched 3 surrendered imperial soldiers.

After you defeat the "leader" enemy in some areas (who is highlighted in orange), any remaining enemies in the area will try to flee. Catch up to them but do not kill them – instead, press :cross: to make them surrender and give you an item. Do this 3 times to earn the trophy. As long as you force enemies to surrender when you get such an opportunity, you will earn this trophy very early in the game (Chapter 2 or so). Also see Imperial Investigation.

e4e.jpg  Imperial Investigation (B)

Searched 15 surrendered imperial soldiers.

See Forced Charity. As long as you make soldiers surrender somewhat regularly, you will have no trouble earning this trophy as you play through the game (probably around Chapter 4 or so). If you want to farm this trophy to get it out of the way, walk around the Togoreth Region of the overworld. Some of the random battles in this area have commanders, and defeating them will give you one or two enemies that you can make surrender.

6d1.jpg  Enter Class Zero (B)(H)

Completed Chapter 1 "War - Three Hours That Changed the World."

Story-related and unmissable. This trophy unlocks after finishing the first chapter of the game, which will probably take about an hour or so to complete. Note that the first boss actually has quite a steep learning curve, and it's very possible for it to pretty much one-hit-kill you, so you will want to practice dodging (with :circle:) throughout this chapter.

If you have trouble with this boss, you can consult the following video guide:

e05.jpg  Shots Fired (B)(H)

Completed Chapter 2 "Raise the Vermilion Banner."

Story-related and unmissable. This trophy unlocks once you complete the Chapter 2 mission at Togoreth Stronghold and defeat the subsequent boss.

758.jpg  Expanding the Theater (B)(H)

Completed Chapter 3 "Weapons of Mass Destruction."

Story-related and unmissable. This trophy unlocks after completing the second mission in Chapter 3. This mission ends with a very tough sequence of boss fights, so make sure that you are well-prepared.

071.jpg  A Frantic Flight (B)(H)

Completed Chapter 4 "The Last Queen's Return to Oblivion."

Story-related and unmissable. This trophy unlocks after you complete the second mission of Chapter 4. Note that Chapter 4 is much more linear than the previous chapters, and there is no boss fight at the end of the mission before earning this trophy (though the first mission in the chapter does have a boss fight, it is much easier than previous bosses).

084.jpg  War of the Wyverns (B)(H)

Completed Chapter 5 "The First Battle of Judecca."

Story-related and unmissable. Chapter 5 consists of one very long and difficult mission. At the end of this mission, you will fight a dragon who you will die against. After you die, Bahamut will be summoned, and then you will absolutely destroy the dragon. After winning this battle and watching a few cutscenes, the trophy will unlock.

9db.jpg  The Forbidden Savior (B)(H)

Completed Chapter 6 "Terra Mortis - Khalia's Decision."

Story-related and unmissable. Chapter 6 consists of just one mission, but it is very long and difficult, so make sure you are well-prepared. You will face several mini-bosses throughout the mission, and at the end of the mission you will fight Gilgamesh. You can simply lose this battle in order to complete the mission. This trophy unlocks after several cutscenes play.

ff5.jpg  Conclusion to Combat (S)(H)

Completed Chapter 7 "Fate of the Crystal - The Endless Battle."

Story-related and unmissable. Chapter 7 consists of two missions. The first mission is an overworld mission where you infiltrate some enemy cities. After completing this first mission, make a separate save file, as this is the game's point of no return. Once you start the chapter's second (and last) mission, there is no going back for some other trophies. The second mission consists of just a single boss fight and nothing else, and the trophy unlocks several cutscenes later.

93a.jpg  What Lies Beyond (G)(H)

Completed Chapter 8 "Verdict: Finis."

Story-related and unmissable. Not surprisingly, Chapter 8 is quite long and difficult, as it is the final chapter of the game. The trophy unlocks after you defeat the final boss of the game and watch some cutscenes. Make sure that you create a save file after finishing the game, as you can use this save file to start a New Game+ playthrough where you start the game with all of your characters and items intact.

c2d.jpg  An Army of One (G)(H)

Earned the "An Army of One" bonus.

To earn this trophy, re-play any mission (so you might as well choose the very first mission from Chapter 2, and you can play it on the easiest difficulty setting) and only select one character to be in your reserves (thanks to Saratinous for the info). Also, when you are offered SP recruits to help you out during the mission, make sure that you refuse them, as they will void this trophy.

Make it through the mission in order to earn this trophy.

See the following video guide:

The trophies A Lonely Battle and A Select Few are earned similarly, but you instead must play through the mission with exactly two or exactly three characters, respectively, instead of just one.

907.jpg  A Lonely Battle (S)(H)

Earned the "A Lonely Battle" bonus.

See An Army of One, but play through a mission with exactly two characters instead of just one (thanks to Strangelove for the info).

97d.jpg  A Select Few (B)(H)

Earned the "A Select Few" bonus.

See An Army of One, but play through a mission with exactly three characters instead of just one (thanks to Saratinous for the info).

e69.jpg  Perfect Marks (B)(H)

Earned an S-Rank on a mission.

If you play the game on Cadet difficulty (the easiest difficulty setting), you will almost definitely earn this trophy naturally as you play through the game. You may earn this trophy naturally in Chapter 2 (or even later in the game), or you can simply re-play any early mission once your characters are stronger to make it easy on yourself. In order to boost your mission rank, complete the mission quickly and do not let your characters die. Also, when you are offered back-up to help you with the mission, decline them, as they lower your mission rank.

Story-related and unmissable. You will earn this trophy as part of a mission in Chapter 2. It unlocks right when you speak to someone named Koharu. See also The Beastmaster.

056.jpg  The Beastmaster (B)(H)

Forged covenants with 6 Eidolons.

There are lots of eidolons in the game, but most of them take some serious effort to earn. If you play through the game on Officer difficulty, you may earn six eidolons naturally while going for other trophies. However, if you play on Cadet difficulty, you will likely only earn three eidolons when playing through the game (Ifrit, Golem, and Shiva), so you will have to earn the rest via mission select. Some of the easiest other eidolons to earn are:

  • Firebrand (complete the "United Front" Expert Trial on Officer difficulty)
  • Gigas (complete the "Expelling the Empire" Expert Trial on Officer difficulty)
  • Calamity (complete the "A Charge on the Border" Expert Trial on Officer difficulty)

If you don't have access to any Expert Trials (since you didn't do them while playing through the game), you can instead get these three eidolons (thanks to ixii for the information):

  • Rubicante: Complete the SO "Destroy Brionac as quickly as possible using your active leader" in the "Operation MA Demolition" mission, on any difficulty. The SO will always pop at Brionac (boss, last room).
  • Vulcan: Complete the SO "Take down Mikazuchi using your active leader" in the "Battle of Judecca" mission, on any difficulty. The SO will always pop when Mikazuchi comes, in the 6th room. It's NOT the boss so have to watch out for that SO if you're not counting rooms. Suggestion: Look at all SOs and decline each until this one pops up.
  • Odin: Complete the "The Clash on Big Bridge" mission on Officer difficulty

Once you get your sixth eidolon, the trophy will unlock.

8fb.jpg  Total Domination (S)(H)

Won a 5-battle chain encounter in the overworld.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

Sometimes after a battle on the overworld, you will be given the option of either continuing to fight more enemies or fleeing back to the overworld. If you choose to keep fighting, you will immediately enter another battle with slightly stronger enemies. Do this 4 times and win all 5 battles to earn this trophy. Some notes to keep in mind:

The enemies in the fifth battle will likely be quite strong, so make sure you are prepared, and perhaps wait until later in the game to attempt this trophy (though it is quite possible to earn it in Chapter 2). Also, you are automatically kicked back to the overworld after the fifth battle – you cannot continue to fight more after it. Battles you fight for this trophy count toward The Hunted Becomes the Hunter.

773.jpg  Emergency Evasion (B)(H)

Dodged 500 enemy attacks.

To dodge, simply press the :circle: button. You should be dodging regularly as you play through the game, as it is almost necessary to stay alive most of the time, even on Cadet (the easiest difficulty setting). Your timing does not need to be particularly good; even if you just mash the dodge and attack buttons, you will likely earn this trophy sometime in Chapter 2 or 3.

498.jpg  Master Marksman (B)(H)

Shot down 50 enemies with the Setzer.

Missable due to the point of no return in Chapter 7.

First, unlock the Setzer airship (see The Ark of Agito for instructions). Then, when flying this new airship, simply shoot down 50 enemies. You can lock onto enemies with :r1: and you can shoot with :square:.

This is one good and detailed guide. It doesn't seem to me that I will need 2 playthroughts. If you use the exp exploit at a point, then the "The Great Liberator" will be a piece of cake.

This is true actually, and I'll update the guide to mention this. If you use the XP exploit you can finish this is one playthrough and honestly probably under 20 hours.

Am I being really dense, but how do you get the Beastmaster trophy without 2 play throughs, if you can't get Bahamut until the second playthrough.

Sorry for being a little unclear there. There are actually "upgrades" to eidolons that you can get that also count toward the trophy, so you don't actually even need Bahamut for the trophy. I'll update the trophy guide when I get home to make that clearer and list some of the easily-obtainable upgrades.

Can someone tell me when I unlock these Expert Trials, please! I don't want to miss any of them.

Once you make it to your hub(main city where you take your classes/mission day timer) the chick who hands them out will always be at the main gate right before you exit through the red gates, she'll have an orange marker above her head that will say Trials. After you finish one, always talks to her again, she'll have more. You may miss them if you don't exploit or grind as they will overlevel you very early on and may have to wait till NG+.

Actually she doesn't show up right away -- she arrives at the start of Chapter 3.

Okay. I was worried that I missed her already. Only on Chapter 2 at the moment. I don't really find myself consumed with the game as is usually the case with FF titles. Although, not so much post-PS2 I suppose.
