This walkthrough was written to supplement AmbaLaBamba's existing Trophy Guide for the game. While I've tried to keep this walkthrough as spoiler-free as possible, there are still spoilers in it. If you want to play through blind, I recommend following Amba's guide while keeping an eye on the missable trophies.

 

A few notes:

 

1) Install the patch. It cuts down the game's loading times by quite a bit.

 

2) The Auto-Save is erratic and the game doesn't really tell you when it's doing it (though you can count on having an autosave close to any points when you can die). You can make manual saves, and I recommend that you do (though I didn't experience any crashing).

 

3) There are optional collectibles in this game (photo fragments). Pick them up if you want to, but I'm skipping them.

 

4) There's no map, and the game has set camera angles (though you can still move the camera) but sometimes the perspective (and sometimes where the left stick will take you - think original Devil May Cry) can change without much indication that it's done so (example: Entering the kitchen from the foyer switches the perspective of where the door that leads back to the foyer is). I've tried to describe areas like this as best I can in the walkthrough.

 

5) Unless otherwise stated, your conversation options don't matter (most of them just need to be exhausted anyway) so choose whatever you want.

PROLOGUE

 

The path is linear. Just keep running forward

After the cutscene of John burying the doll, keep running forward

Interact with the ghost, then keep running forward

Interact with the rock in the center ("take")

Pick up lamp from rock

 

Car

Examine paper

Turn paper around and read symbols

Examine box

Examine contents of box (and examine it in your inventory)

 

 

CHAPTER ONE

 

Foyer

Exhaust dialogue – your choices don't matter

Follow the butler upstairs to 2F Landing

Just keep following the butler – you can look at stuff on the way if you want, but it's not necessary

You will eventually end up in your bedroom

 

David's Bedroom

Welcome to Sgathan Dub (B) unlocked during cutscene

Examine picture above fireplace until David figures out what the object he got in the car is

Open your suitcase at the foot of your bed

Pick up matches (in the top, above the telegram)

Walk behind you and open the box on the desk

Light the candle

Leave the bedroom (door is to the left of the bed; there's a white vase next to it)

 

2F Landing

Walk forward until you get to an intersection

Take the right path

You will pass a dumbwaiter on the way

Keep following the path and enter the first door you see

 

Library

Walk right

Examine rolltop desk

Walk behind you – you will walk down some stairs

Behind the bookshelves in front of you is the exit

 

Foyer

Walk down and enter the first door you come across, on the left (there's like a room service tray outside of it)

Keep walking forward, through the next set of doors

 

Kitchen

Once Rory leaves, examine table

Pick up the cleaver

Walk around the table

Open drawer – get wire (you won't be told that's what it is, but it's in your inventory)

Walk right and enter the door on your left

Walk towards the screen and enter the door on your left

 

Foyer

No matter which door you took from the kitchen, you'll end up here. But assuming you came through the door I directed you to above:

Walk up and enter the library door in the back corner

 

Library

Walk all the way right

Examine document on desk that Andrew is sitting at

Talk to Andrew – he will leave

Walk left and up the twisty staircase

Walk up to rolltop desk

Use wire (hold triangle) – Scratches or no scratches (B) unlocked

Examine desk

Examine left panel of desk

Input combination – 3618

Open panel under combination lock

Pick up key

Press circle to back out to the desk

There are three drawers on the right – try to unlock the bottom one

Hold the left analogue stick right until the view changes to the right side of the desk

Examine snake

Press button on top of snake head

Press circle to go back to desk view

Hold analogue stick left until the view changes to the left side of the desk

Examine snake

 

The gist of this puzzle is that you need to press the button at the bottom of the snake, indicating either white or black, following a specific sequence. That sequence is: B / W / B / W / B / Wx3 / Bx2 / Wx2 / Bx2 / W / B

If David says something like “that wasn't right” then the sequence will reset and you need to start over

 

You will automatically get a master key and a letter

Don't bother fooling around with the key yet

Running with scissors (B) unlocked during cutscene

 

2F Landing

You will automatically end up here after the cutscene

Walk in either direction until you come across a door inbetween a painting and a mounted deer head

Unlock the door – you won't be able to

Examine master key in inventory (press Options, then tab over to Inventory)

Select the hotspot of the key teeth – select Rotate Up x2

This should result in the second tooth pointing right and the other three pointing left

Look at keyhole

Use key to unlock door

 

Study

Walk left until you reach the desk

Examine bookshelf on the right of the desk

Use bookshelf to start puzzle

The answer is always the same, but assuming the starting positions aren't random:

Rotate big ring x17 (looks like an upside down fork)

Rotate medium ring x1 (looks like a B)

Rotate small ring x4 (looks like a N)

Move camera around to the right and examine the missing piece of the model

OPTIONAL: Make a separate save here to give yourself a second chance at a minigame at the beginning of Chapter 2 (not strictly necessary; you only need to pass this minigame 3 out of 5 times)

Use missing piece – David will complete the model

Chapter I completed (B) after a few cutscenes

CHAPTER TWO

 

David's Bedroom

 

After talking with Ailsa, you will be thrust into a minigame – keep the cursor in the middle of the circle as much as possible, until it fills up. Ultimately you need to do this 3 times for a trophy and you will have 5 opportunities in the game to do it so it's not the end of the world if you don't get it this time around. However, if you did, you will unlock I can't breathe (S) once you finally gain control of David.

 

Leave the bedroom (door is left of bed)

You will automatically be taken to the dining room

 

Dining Room

Eat all three food items

Use napkin to leave table – Eat well, stay healthy (S) unlocked

Talk to Angus – all you have to do is ask about the maid

Walk left to exit room

 

Trophy Room

Examine fireplace

Hold down X on fireplace to take earring

Talk to Margaret

Walk right and up a few stairs to exit the room

 

Foyer

Walk left, past the first door (leads to the library) and enter the next door (leading to the kitchen)

Walk forward into the kitchen

 

Kitchen

Talk to Ailsa – you only need to talk about the earring, then the spiders

Walk towards the screen until you see the table

Walk to the door on the back wall (there's kitchen stuff hanging on either side)

Leave through this door and Ailsa will follow you

 

Basement

Follow Ailsa until she stops

Pick up candle

Walk up until you hit some shelves

Pick up bottle (alcohol) from left shelf

Go back to Ailsa

Burn the spiderwebs behind her

You will be taken back to the kitchen

Exit via the door on the right

Walk towards the screen and use the door on the left

 

Foyer

Walk right past the stairs

Enter door right of stairs

Use right door

 

Sitting Room

Walk up to fireplace

Look at picture on right side of mantle

Examine back of picture (in inventory)

When you regain control of David, exit the room via the left door (x2)

 

Foyer

Walk past stairs

Enter door on wall behind globe (it's flanked by suits of armor)

 

Trophy Room

Walk towards the screen

Talk to Margaret

Walk right and up the stairs to exit the room

 

Foyer

Walk left

Ignore the first door

Enter the second door (toward the kitchen)

Walk up the corridor and into the kitchen

In the kitchen, walk left and exit outside to the gardens

 

Gardens

Walk forward/right until Rory stops you

Continue up the path leading to the building in the distance

Walk into the graveyard and find the one by the large tree – it's covered in plants

Examine the grave ("I've seen this before")

Try to open the door of the chapel

Go back to Rory

Look at Rory's tool box (it will say "take")

Talk to Rory – ask if you can borrow his bolt cutters

Choose "uncover graves" as the reason – get bolt cutters

Go back to the grave and use the bolt cutters on it – get model part

Use bolt cutters with chapel door

 

Chapel

Walk forward, then left, to the area under the window

You need to read all five scrolls – the game will force you to read them in a specific order

OPTIONAL (but recommended): Make a save

Walk towards the screen until you reach a "touch" hotspot in some debris

Go back to the chapel door – there's a plant here to touch

Go back towards where the scrolls were – touch the fish

 

You have entered a vision. Visions in the game can kill you if you take too long. If the screen starts to turn black, back away from the area you're in and the screen should restore itself. You can't save when in a vision; if you didn't make the optional save above, selecting "last save" after you die will load the beginning of the chapel so you're only saving a bit of time.

 

Examine the figure

Climb the plank on the left

Examine the figure

Walk forward

Climb the back wall

During the cutscene will be another of the I still can't breathe (S) minigames so be ready for it

20,000 miles under the sea (B) unlocked after cutscene

You will be taken back to the kitchen

Talk to Leah until a cutscene plays

CHAPTER THREE

 

Kitchen

Exhaust conversation with Leah

Talk to Leah again – she will agree to accompany you to the basement

Walk right to the dumbwaiter

Use dumbwaiter ("I can't do this alone" "Trust me")

Walk left

Take knife from table

Use dumbwaiter again

Elevator Music (S) unlocked after cutscene

 

Basement

Follow Leah

Sometimes she won't lead. Just follow the planks on the ground – either path will lead you to the body

Examine body

You will be in another vision. Just like before, you can die during this part, so if the screen starts to get dark, back away from the area until it brightens again.

Unlike the previous vision, you don't have to move anywhere. Just interact with the figures during the three phases of their fight.

Caught a Ghost (S) unlocked after cutscene

Examine tub next to body – hold :cross: – get pendant

Leave the basement (with the body behind you, keep heading down and right. The stairs are next to two shelves covered with white tarps and a shelf filled with bottles/cans)

 

Kitchen

Walk right and exit the kitchen

Walk towards the screen and exit through the left door to reach the Foyer

Walk up to the door in the back left corner

 

Library

Walk towards the twisty staircase (don't go up it)

Behind/right of the twisty staircase is a small table with some documents you can examine – look at all three

Exit back to the Foyer

Walk right across the Foyer and into the door right of the stairs

Walk into the right door

 

Sitting Room

Show the pendant to the butler

When you gain control again, exit left x2 to the Foyer

Walk left across the hall and enter the door leading to the kitchen

Walk forward through the corridor to actually enter the kitchen

Walk left and exit to the Gardens

 

Gardens

Walk left to the tree, then follow the path behind it that goes down hill

Walk right to Leah (you can see her light)

Examine both hotspots behind Leah – one requires you to hold X

Walk left past the bridge, then start walking towards the screen and left to exit the area

Walk right to the intersection

Walk up to the greenhouse

Talk to Rory

RECOMMENDED: Make a save. I had a necessary hotspot not spawn inside the greenhouse; reloading a prior save and trying again cleared up the problem. Probably just a fluke but thought I'd mention it. Also, you're about to hit the point of no return for unlocking both I can't breathe and I still can't breathe in the same game.

Enter the greenhouse (if he won't let you, then you didn't look at both hotspots on the beach and talk to him about them)

 

Greenhouse

Examine the roses right of Rory

Talk to Rory

Examine wreath

Examine wreath again (hold :cross:)

Examine roses right of Rory (hold :cross:)

 

You are in another vision. Same rules apply. The hotspots:

The arguing couple, when he hits her the first time and she falls into the chair

The window in the back right corner, when he hits her the second time

The thing the man throws (you can examine it when it's in his hand)

 

Roses are red, Violets are blue (S) unlocked during cutscene

 

You will be thrust into another calming-down minigame near the end of the cutscene. If this is your third success, you will unlock I still can't breathe (G). If you haven't unlocked it yet, you have two more chances to do so. If you have yet to even unlock I can't breathe (S), you need to reload a save and try again, or you won't be able to get the aforementioned trophy by the end of the game.

 

Examine the window in the back right corner and the hotspot under it (hold :cross:)

Leave the greenhouse

You will eventually end up in the Foyer

Walk up the stairs to 2F Landing

Walk left until you reach an intersection, then take the stairs on your right

 

Attic

Walk a little ways past Eddie (do not talk to him yet) until the hotspot on his dolls shows up

Examine dolls – Profondo Rosso (G) unlocked

Talk to Eddie

Examine crucifix outline on wall

Walk left from Eddie until you can't anymore, then towards the screen

Left of the wardrobe is a hidden door, behind some planks of wood

Keep pushing forward until you reach a new room

Examine crucifix on wall

Take down crucifix

Break shackle (foot closest to wall)

Talk to Rosemary

Walk left to exit the room

 

Cliffs

Walk towards the screen to the floor that's jutting out

Climb down to the next level

Walk towards the screen

Climb down the rope on the right

Climb down from the rock you're on

Push the plank

Walk across ("balance") the plank

Walk left and follow the path up the stairs

 

Workshop

Walk left and take the bones from the table against the back wall

Turn around and shoot with the crossbow

Chapter III completed (S) unlocked after cutscene

CHAPTER FOUR

 

Workshop

Examine the desk where you got the crossbow

Take item from bottom left drawer – get master key part

Examine master key (inventory)

The bottom hotspot (you probably have to move the key with the left stick) will allow you to add this new part

 

Back out of the examination, to reset the key's default position. This is just to make it easier to explain the key settings.

 

First hotspot: Rotate Up x2 – all key teeth are now on the left side

Second hotspot: Rotate Up x3 – they are now “behind” the key

Third hotspot: Rotate Up x1 – they are now “in front of” the key

 

Exit inventory

Examine center desk drawer

Use key with lock

Take both items from the desk

Leave desk

Examine table with deer carcass, against the right wall

Examine crate with bottles

Leave table

Walk right until you're standing on the plank between the cliffs

Examine the hotspot on this plank

Walk left, back into the workshop

Examine table against wall (the one where you got the bones earlier)

Take map from wall

Examine small bottle

Pour small bottle (into large bottle) (if this doesn't show up, then examine the candle and try again)

Put small piece of paper into bottle

Use large bottle with candle

Walk right across the plank and leave via the stairs

 

Trophy Room

With the fireplace at your back, walk across the room, up the stairs and through the door (Foyer)

Walk left to the door in the back corner

 

Library

Walk to the table with the lamp next to the twisty staircase

Talk to Rory

Go up the twisty staircase and exit left

Follow the landing right – the first turn is at the attic stairs

Enter the attic

 

Attic

Walk up and slightly right into Rosemary's room

Talk to Rosemary

Exit the Attic

Walk left on the 2F landing and enter the first door you come across

 

Library

Go down the twisty stairs

Talk to Rory

Walk down and left to exit the library (Foyer)

Walk down and enter the kitchen corridor door

Walk forward into the kitchen

Walk left and exit to the gardens

 

Gardens

Walk left and down the hill to the lake

Push the boat (left of the dock)

Walk down/left to exit the lake area

Walk right, past the greenhouse (still going right)

Examine car

Use car

 

Abandoned Village

Examine blood on rock (next to Leah) – get scythe rune

Talk to Rory – you only have to talk to him about the scythe rune

Enter the door in the background and follow the path out

Don't enter the other door – keep walking left and examine the blood on the rock – get arrow rune

Walk forward past this rock and keep pushing right – ignore the first door you come across – you will dead-end at a second door

Continue down this tunnel until you pass a large brick wall on the right

On the right rock just past that wall is a rune to examine – get tree rune

Keep going down the tunnel and exit it

Keep going left – ignore doors and the stairs – until the camera angle changes

Keep going left and you will come across a boarded up area

Try to open the boarded up area

Take the nearby plank – you will open the area via QTE.

 

Edward's Hideout/Fourth Vision

Examine all six readable notes – they are all on the planks, and the hotspots will activate one at a time, just like at the greenhouse)

Complete the puzzle – when pieces have been placed together correctly, they will connect to each other.

When it's completed, back out of the puzzle.

You will be thrust into an extended vision with some normal gameplay inbetween. Same rules apply. You can save during the normal gameplay parts if you're afraid of dying or if you still haven't unlocked I still can't breathe (S), as there's another one of those right after the vision.

 

In this room, you want to examine what the figures are holding. You won't be able to move until one figure attacks another. Once he starts running, you can quickly walk up to him and examine what's in his hand. If he escapes, hang out around the exit door until you can try again – the place where you started is way too close to the majority of the vision and will kill you quickly.

 

Exit right, then up and through the double archway

Go right past the first door you come across

At the intersection, you should see light in the distance

Walk up towards the light to start the second part of the vision

 

The ghost (John – hopefully this all seems familiar from the prologue) will more or less stay in the same spot. The only time you can interact with him is when he sits against the rock and pulls something out of his pocket and stares at it.

 

You will automatically be taken near where you need to go.

Enter the small door and climb the stairs to the third part of the vision

 

Again, John will stay stationary, but you can only interact with him within a small window of time. Interact with him when he cuts his hand

 

After the cutscene, you will have another calming-down minigame.

We are not in Biddleford anymore (G) unlocked

Get ready for some QTEs

Talk to Rory

Chapter IV completed (G) unlocked after cutscenes

CHAPTER FIVE

 

Trophy Room

Finish conversation

Facing the fireplace, walk left and through the door

You will automatically be taken to the Workshop

 

Workshop

Examine the rune behind Leah (not sure if this is necessary; just in case)

Talk to Margaret – get master key part

Bette & Joan (S) unlocked after cutscene

 

Trophy Room

Examine master key in inventory

Use bottom hotspot to add the new key part

Back out of and examine key again (to reset its orientation on screen)

 

First hotspot – Rotate Up x3 – it is "behind" the key

Second hotspot – Rotate Up x1 – it is pointing left

Third hotspot – Rotate Up x1 – it is pointing right

Fourth hotspot – Rotate Up x1 – it is "in front of" the key

 

Back out of inventory

With the fireplace at your back, walk across the room, up the stairs and through the door (Foyer)

Walk right and up the stairs to 2F Landing

Walk right and immediately turn right again (don't walk down the darkened corridor)

Enter the door right of the mounted deer head

 

Study

Make a save if you still haven't unlocked I still can't breathe – you will soon have your final calming-down minigame.

Walk left/forward and examine the castle model on the right

Open the panel on the front of the model

Examine lock

Use key

 

You will enter another vision. You won't be able to move during the first round – just be ready to hit :cross: to examine the first (well, final) part of it (the boy kneeling and raising his arms) – you still have a chance to do this later if you miss your opportunity this time around

Go left as soon as possible – once you gain control of David, you will already be in the black

It's easiest to approach the other two (as well as see exactly when you need to interact with the vision) by walking up towards the desk and using the right stick to move the camera to bring the whole thing into view.

There's an interaction point when the man is fiddling with the model, before he hits the boy

The final one is when the boy gets up off the floor

 

Calming-down minigame soon after

Finish conversation

The owls are not what they seem (G) unlocked after cutscene

Examine model

Interact with model

Exit the office

Walk left and go downstairs

 

Foyer

Examine master key in inventory

 

First hotspot – Rotate Up x2 – it is "in front of" the key

Second hotspot – You shouldn't have to move it, but it should be facing left

Third hotspot – Rotate Up x1 – it is "behind" the key

Fourth hotspot – Rotate Up x3 – it is facing left

 

Back out of inventory

Examine globe

Examine globe arm

Use key with lock

Northern hemisphere – rotate right x19 – Spain should be directly above the little arrow sticking out of the equator (though you're more likely to just recognize the top of Africa)

You may need to leave and examine the globe again to control the southern hemisphere

Southern hemisphere – rotate right x9 – you're trying to align Tasmania (i.e. have most of Australia left of the marker but some of it at the marker)

When you've aligned the globe correctly, you will receive the rune tablet

Enter the door behind the globe

 

Trophy Room

Walk down the stairs and to the fireplace

Examine the fireplace (not the writing above it)

Number the buttons left to right, 1-7. Sequence: 6 – 3 – 4

Enter fireplace – Enter the Posel Smrti (G) unlocked

 

Grail Temple (I had to. I'm not sorry.)

Leah will guide you. You can die here or pass a balancing minigame but either way you will have to start over. I'll try to describe this the best I can.

Walk left until you reach the first pillar

Turn right and walk forward until you're inbetween the second and third pillars on the left

Turn right and walk forward until you're inbetween the second and third pillars on the right (don't go through them!)

Turn left and walk forward until you trigger a cutscene

From your new position, face left and walk forward – you will automatically realign yourself for the next step

The next two steps are the same – just walk forward from your realigned position

False step made by standing still (B) unlocked after cutscene

 

Hidden Caves

 

You can do the next two rooms in whichever order you choose.

 

Walk left and enter the door

Exit behind you

Enter the door again

Exit behind you

Enter the door again – the chandelier is now on the left

Walk to the small white table on the right wall

Take the item (that isn't actually there)

Pass the QTE – get figurine

 

Walk towards the screen, down the stairs, and enter the right door

 

The layout of this area is randomized; sorry.

Keep searching doors until you find a room with a small white table and a candle on it.

Once you have the candle, you need to start looking at the runes.

You want to be in the room that has the tree and scythe runes (if you need a reminder of what they look like, check your inventory)

Once you're in that room, enter the door left of the scythe rune – if you did this correctly, you will immediately enter this room again

Enter the door right of the tree rune

You will be at the table again

Take the figurine

 

All that's left now is dialogue, cutscenes and QTEs.

 

Eventually - Chapter V completed (G) and Every Trophy accomplished (P) unlocked
