Sledgehammer Games Not Working on Call of Duty: Ghosts, Developing Something Else Instead

Sledgehammer Games is not involved with the newly-announced Call of Duty: Ghosts.

The studio was working on its own CoD title due for release in 2011, but that project was put on hold when Infinity Ward called on its help to develop Modern Warfare 3.

Now it seems, Sledgehammer is on its own again and cooking up something new.

That’s the suggestion of a tweet from the official Sledgehammer Twitter account overnight, as the studio moved to congratulate IW on Ghosts’ announcement.

"Congrats to @InfinityWard on #CODGhosts!" wrote the studio. "Our team is heads down on our next project, but best wishes to the hardworking team at IW!"

Whether his means that Sledgehammer is creating its own Call of Duty title, or something else entirely is currently unknown. Our money’s on the former though. There's plenty more milk left in that cow.

  • Call of Duty MMO, Activision want more money.
  • So a developer is working on a game? ...........can hardly contain my surprise ;)
  • This is interesting, now to long ago a article was posted saying sledgehammer was staffing up for the next call of the duty game, must of been a lie. Maybe people should get their facts straight before posting articles?
  • @3 Kind of agree with you but understand why Richard made the intuitive leap that it was the _next_ COD. The original Now Gamer source he used (http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1685603/next_call_of_duty_heading_to_xbox_360_ps3.html?) definitely says the job listing was for someone who had a desire to work on COD... but is that the same as someone who WILL work on COD? The trouble is us gamers want ALL the news, whereas publishers want to drip-feed us. The gaming press are stuck in the middle, trawling through any and every source to get us something more than stupid teasers and done-to-death countdown web pages, but sometimes adding it all up and getting eleventy four. IMO publishers should be more forthcoming instead of trying to trick us into buying their product, which would mean people like Dan, Rich and Lee could give us decent confirmed information rather than hearsay and conjecture and we could preorder games without fear of them turning out to be complete turkeys.
  • In any case , the next COD will be pretty dam kool , in terms of the story. > come on the return of GHOST !. Im interested in seeing what new engine they will be using. Frostbite ? Unreal Engine ? Ill be there at the E3 on June 9th-13th Sii i'll have hands down views on the upcoming title.
  • Im betting its COD meets Metal Gear Solid , not like Ghost recon style But MGS yeh!! that would be f@ckin awesome !!! @Comment #5 by KindredCampbell --- how are you going to E3 ??
  • @5 there is no way in hell they would use the frostbite engine.
  • Comment #6 The ticket is $50 & held in Los Angeles, California @Comment #7 well time will tell ,,lol
  • I feel like Black Ops 2's MP layout, menus, etc would have been much better had Sledgehammer not been involved so I'm kind of glad to read this. Same with MW3.
  • EA/Dice would never allow their engine used in a competitors FPS game. Especially when they are trying everything then can to take them down a couple of notches, and steal some of their player base.
  • @#9 Sledgehammer didn't work on BOII.... I'm still not interested in putting any sort of money in the next CoD. But I still want to see what and if they've truly improved anything when they demo the game.
  • Lol, KindredCampbell is full of BS. E3 is a trade only event and not open to the general public. There isn't a $50 ticket, just a 3 day pass is $700 and one other option.
  • Btw E3 is on June 11 - 13th, dummy. I guess you bought a fake ticket. XD
