Skyrim DLC At An End? Bethesda Moves On To Its Next Adventure

It appears that there'll be no more DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which isn't bad going considering the amount of gameplay the game already packs in, alongside Dawnguard, Hearthfire and the aforementioned add-on (nasty PlayStation 3 delays aside, of course). Bethesda has today announced that it's moving on from Skyrim, having invested in it as a labour of love since 2006.

Stopping short of completely saying goodbye to Skyrim, Bethesda confirmed that it's moving on to the studio's 'next adventure'. "Even though we’re moving on, we’ll still have minor updates to Skyrim as needed. We’ve invested so much of ourselves into Skyrim and will never truly say goodbye to it," reads a post on the Bethesda Blog.

"We loved hearing your stories, your in-game triumphs, and your suggestions. One thing stuck out to us through those emails, letters, and postings. And that is – video games matter. They’re as important to you as they are to us," the post adds. "It’s not just about entertainment, it’s about your time. And you chose to spend it with our game."

With Bethesda claiming that it's set to make "considerably more noise this year", Bethesda Games Studio is looking forward to sharing its next adventure, putting a full-stop on Skyrim's DLC. "Games are the world’s best entertainment because they can do what other forms cannot – fill you with the wonder of exploration and the pride of accomplishment," the blog post concludes. "We look forward to sharing our next adventure with you."

Unsurprising, especially with all of the rumors circulating about Fallout 4. Beth probably wants to get stuff ready for E3, so they're giving themselves some time.

Dawnguard and Dragonborn were fun (but I really don't feel that they matched any of the Fallout: New Vegas DLC, in terms of gameplay and time, despite being double the cost). Here's hoping that Fallout 4 can keep up the pace.

I agree with you YenRou. I never really got around to playing this and would happily pick up a GOTY edition that packaged everything together.

B0SS Zombie, my only hope is that there won't be any future issues with PlayStation moving forward. Especially with the PS4, since it has been said by lots of developers that it is very easy to work with, unlike the PS3.

What all about the " Redguard " rumors? They were fake?

I hope there come a Elder Scroll game with all the provinces in one game. That will be awesome.

It's a shame Red Guard and the other 2 rumoured DLCs won't get released but it's better in the long run as the game won't get bogged down with more data than it can handle e.g. like what happened with FO: NV.

id rather them not waste time on dlc anyway. the sooner they move on the sooner we get the next game :) and dlc for any game is always overpriced and boring anyway.

@#7 The Elder Scrolls Online (coming to PC) has all the provinces in the one game, as does the Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, I believe.

I never really like the idea of DLC in any game. (Thus I have never bought DLC.)
Take Ocarina of Time for example, Nintendo has milked so much money out of that game alone. If they could've, they would've brought DLC out for it back in the day. Then we may never have gotten the amazing sequal Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time would slowly lose its welcome.
I do like how with thenew technology developers can patch bugs in games though, makes Skyrim a lot better than it was when, say, it first came out.

Yeah Ocarina of time is one of those games when even now DLC wouldn't work I agree but some games like Skyrim need DLC for story or in case the developers want to show their ideas.

@3 the PS4 shouldn't suffer the same problems that the PS3 did. It's been designed to be much more easier to code for (as many developers have already said), as well as being far more powerful in every way. Sony took a gamble with the CELL micro-processor, and despite the potential, it never really reached the heights that Sony planned for it, or really hoped for - as shown by how few exclusive titles there have been.

The PS4 on the other hand, is far more similar to a current mid-range PC, so coding should be far easier for all devs - both indie and large - to make some really amazing games.

I suspect it may be a few months to a year post launch before we start seeing what the PS4 can really do, but I have high hopes for the next gen. The hardwear is there, it's just up to the devs and Sony to make the magic happen

Red Dead Undead Nightmare was a great one.
I also luved New Vegas Old World Blues.
I even liked Operation: Anchorage and Mothership Zeta.

None of those problems were the reasons that Fallout and Elder Scrolls didn't work so well on PS3.

It was memory, plain and simple. Beth ported the games from the PC versions, which utilize a lot of memory, and the PS3 simply couldn't match it.

Gutted I was hoping to see Stros M'kai and expand on the Thalmor storyline.
Now I know there's not gonna be a Thalmor DLC I'm off to slice Elenweyn a new one. Hopefully they're busy writing up the next Elder Scrolls will be weird if we continue where skyrim left off as we already have the Dragonborn as Skyrims hero, surely then we will be in Summerset Isles or Hammerfell if we still have
Thalmor. Wouldsuck if they do what Warcraft did abandoning the original game in favour of MMORPG

On a positive note just found this on IGN:

The Elder Scrolls: Arena has been spotted in Australia's Classification Database, leading to speculation that a re-release of the 1994 DOS title could be on the cards.

The rating (via Game. On) gave the title an M rating on April 9 on account of it containing "moderate violence". It also lists the title as being "multi platform".

So, what could the game be? Well, aside from being a possible reboot of the 1994 game, it could also be a HD remake, or possibly even a mobile or F2P game.

There's no hint of a release date and Bethesda is unlikely to start talking any time soon so for now we're going to have to make do with speculation. Let us know what you think the rating may refer to in the comments below.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a Skyrim movie in the future... Fallout 4 or some Fallout brand game will be announced @ E3. Definitely an announcement about TES online.

Nice of them to let us know. I was holding on to my copy hoping for more DLC but guess it's time to trade it in.
