Dead Space 3: Awakened DLC Brings the Terror Next Week

More Dead Space 3 will be coming next week with the Awakened DLC, which promises "some of the most disturbing content ever seen in a Dead Space game," according to Visceral Games boss Steve Papoutsis.

Expanding upon the Dead Space 3 story, the DLC sees Isaac and Carver taking on another, more fanatical Unitology cult who appear to have spliced themselves with Necromorph parts. It all looks incredibly dark and twisted, and therefore potentially vintage Dead Space (fingers crossed).

Watch the trailer and peruse the screenshots for the upcoming Awakened DLC below. It'll be heading to Dead Space 3 on March 12th for $9.99. You can read our Dead Space 3 verdict here.

Did they just jank all the "horror" out of the game to be sold later as DLC? EA you diabolical bastards!

"Most disturbing scenes in dead space" - micro transactions, surely?? But all jokes aside, this looks ok. Just finished the story last nite, and despite the ending and overall lack of frights, the atmosophere in the game was good and overall i enjoyed it. But it coukd have been so much better.EA should have kept the unique features that made DS1 special and not turn it to a slighlty darker mass effect.

Had this stuff been ingame had I already bought the Dead Space 3 game.
Now I'm just waiting for the prices to drop enough to "compensate" for the DLC.
You'd like that EA, right?

Insightful and thought-provoking. Really made me think about the symbolism and metaphors inherent in Isaac and his Regenerator fights. And the way you compare Carver to a futuristic Lady Gaga is so very true.

;p

Ya know, I'm not one for bashing a company for trying to make money and I loved Dead Space 3. Having said that, after reading what happened to the games ammo system because of EA trying to expand their pockets, I'm honestly pretty pissed, I really would have liked to see what the game would have been without EA's hand in Visceral's back pocket. I'll still support Dead Space, I love the game, this DLC not only looks well worth they money but also looks like alot of fun.

As the price is only in dollars, does that mean it's a US only release or have you just forgot to put Euros and pounds?

Nah, they should have put it in the game, pass.

Same as ME3, story related DLC after I just finished saving the entire universe is retarded - oh crap I forgot to get someones wallet in the citadel, let me just pause that green ending while I go back and get it..

I know Ellie was flying off into space, and I was space dust but by the miracle of $14.99 I can relive all mine and Johns glory days.

Dont take this too seriously, just having my jollies!

Tired of all this dlc coming out w/in a month of release or w/e when the game takes 3 years to make... this happens w/ too damn many games now it's ridiculous. Re:ORC, Re:6, this, not to mention like every friggin fighting game... what happened to including as much as possible in the game so that people buy that game over another because of what it offered... consumers need to take over this industry again instead of letting the producers give us whatever they please then give us "more" for more later.

I don't get why they would release a game and after a month release the DLC..... They want the max profit, it seems

Just a heads up to those not in the know.

This DLC takes place after the ending of Dead Space 3. Don't play it if you haven't completed the main story yet, or you'll spoil several massive plot elements.

Just so everyone knows: that report about ea forcing visceral to change to generic ammo so their micro transactions work better is complete bs. Just use common sense. First of all, there is absolute nothing in the micro transactions that has anything to do with ammo. Using whatever resources would just as easily create plasma cutter specific ammo as it does generic ammo. Obviously the generic ammo was put in place due to the games new weapon crafting system: now that you can create virtually any combo of weapons, it would be way too hard to make weapon specific ammo as the combos are almost limitless. While its true that previous games were smart enough to mostly drop only ammo for the weapons you were carrying, they never exclusively dropped that ammo, sometimes you get ammo from a gun you don't have...and what good does line gun ammo do you when you've got an acid bath assault rifle with a grenade launcher alt fire?

Also, @#13: games have to release their dlc in this fashion due to any games life cycle. Well it's true that dlc released a year later may breathe new life in to a game for some, most players of that game have since moved on to newer games by then. A month after release most people are still frequently playing the game and quite possibly by then done with it and itching for new content. Also, for anyone who always whines that a month is too soon because it makes the content suffer...that's just plain not true. Everyone thinks that means only a month was spent developing the content but that's completely false. Dead space 3 for example, was probably finished 6 months ago, then when the marketing team were promoting the game for its physical release, the actual developers (who have nothing to do with actually releasing the physical product) work on the dlc. And don't get me started on "well why didn't they include it on the disc?" Because that's just not the way development on any product works. You can't just make something an then immediately release it. Time following completion of the content must be spent on packaging, promoting, manufacturing, and distributing.

Money matters, EA jokes, microtransactions aside... what time frame is this DLC set in? Before DS3/After DS3?

Why couldn't they just have a side story like Severed where we played as a different character? I would like to have played as Ellie when she was exploring the ship and how she found Buckell and Santos and what else she was doing before she needed Isaac's help. I was really hoping that this wasn't going to mess with the ending, even if it wasn't that good I still liked it.
