Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 is “on pace” to become the best-selling game in the history of the 2K Games label.

That’s according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who told investors recently that Borderlands 2 has sold almost 6 million copies since it launched in September last year.

"Borderlands 2 continues to expand its audience and remains on pace to become the highest selling title in 2K's history," said Zelnick. "It has also been the largest contributor to our digitally delivered revenue this year, driven both by strong sales of full-game downloads and high attach rates for the titles out on content, especially the Borderlands 2 season pass."

All in all Take-Two enjoyed a positive third quarter of 2012, with company profits rising to $415.8 million from $236.3, thanks in part to a 244% increase in digital sales year-over-year accounting for 23% of company profits.

Meanwhile, the NBA 2K franchise also continued to perform well, with NBA 2K13 selling 4.5 million copies to date, taking the series total to a whopping 15 million units since October 2010.

  • I'm guessing that Borderlands 3 is pretty much confirmed, then.
  • @#1 If they know whats good for them, then yea lol.
  • Its not suprising really, this game is beast. @1&2 - If you go to the Gearbox website, they have a top secret project that they are working on.. Borderlands 3 for next gen maybe?
  • congratz 2k games they deserve it.
  • For me the best franchise out there. The only guaranteed day 1 purchase. Loved both games
  • Good for Gearbox. Definitely one of the best series out, and certainly my favorite co-op title of this gen. Just ridiculous amounts of fun playin this game - and adding the ability to play online co-op while splitscreen is just the shit.
  • Very deserving although bioshock infinite could de-throne them :)
  • Go ahead and hate on me, but borderlands isn't worth the hype. The first was cool but got annoying. The second fixed the problems from the first but introduced a whole new set of annoyances. I don't know if i'd a new borderlands. The internet references killed it.
  • @8 No need to hate on you, if the game doesn't appeal to you, then it's no big deal. But 6 million units sold is proof that it is a very loved and successful game. Borderlands 3 will happen, it was said that it would be financially irresponsible not to make a third.
