Cliff Bleszinski has revealed the codename of his upcoming new IP, adding “I don’t want the chainsaw gun to be my legacy.”
The ex-Gears of War man and Epic Games design director slipped the revelation into a recent interview.
When quizzed about his favourite Transformer, Bleszinski said “My first Transformer was Bluestreak - which was later changed to Silverstreak or something like that - which is the codename of the new IP I’m gestating on slowly.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Bleszinski outlined his wish to not be known merely as the dude that invented the chainsaw gun.
“I don’t want the chainsaw gun to be my legacy,” he said.
“Whenever someone puts together a “Top 50 Weapons in Video Games” there’s like the Halo sword, the Lancer, like it’s there with everything else, like Doom BFG and that’s really flattering.
“But a lot of these kids who have only been playing games for the last however many years, they think that’s the only thing I ever did. They forget about Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal Tournament that I worked on, things like Bulletstorm, a little bit on Shadow Complex and things like that.
“Moving forward I would like to work on something new and fresh and kinda redefine my legacy.
“Steven Speilberg didn’t want to be known for just E.T right, so he made a lot of different kinda things.”
Bleszinski also reiterated his belief that games are too easy, referencing The Legend of Zelda and Dark Souls.
Perhaps BlueStreak will be Bleszinski’s stab at an ultra hardcore title? Who knows. But whatever way it pans out, the speculation can begin now.
"Yes, one of the new ideas I'm gestating on is code named "BlueStreak." (Somehow "Silver" got in there, that's not the name.)," Bleszinski tweeted earlier today.
