Hitman: Absolution
Hitman Franchise to Take Call of Duty Approach, Splitting Development Between Two Studios

The Hitman franchise looks set to take a leaf from Call of Duty’s book.

Following the release of Hitman: Absolution, developer IO Interactive has said that future games in the series will be alternated between development teams.

"It's like with Treyarch and Infinity Ward," said Hitman: Absolution director Tore Blystad. "You have an IP that has been developed. They will feed off each other, as well as [have] some things that stand out.

"I think with these big franchises it takes a long time to develop just one game. If you can, work a little bit in parallel at least and help each other out."

This change of approach means that another developer will be taking on the series for the first time.

"There are talks between us and of course it has to be somewhat in sync," said Blystad, "but it's the first time you could say Hitman has gone out of the house.

“Luckily it's with someone we know. Some of the key developers came from IO and have been working on previous games so it's not like it's in completely new hands."

It’s an interesting approach, one that suggests that Square Enix will be hitting hard with the sequels. Is that what you want? And more importantly, how do you feel about another developer taking the reigns of the Hitman franchise?

As long as they don't turn this into an annual franchise.
It would ruin it, in my opinion.

This doesn't sound good. Each Hitman game has had like, a couple of years between them, do they mean they're planning one a year?

How bad is it that I've never played a Hitman game and I've been gaming for 17 years lol. Anywho, I don't know if I like the sounds of this. It seems like a great series, but COD is ruined, in my mind, because they're annual games now- not saying that Hitman will be - showing lack of innovation, creation, and new shit.

Only the time will tell I guess but I hope they won't ruin it. It's a great franchise.

Much as I'd love more Hitman, if they do go the annual-route, I'll be disappointed. Sure, AC2/B/Rev are all fun games, but I bought the latter two when they got to £10 each and I'd never go over, because I know that it's really just an extension of the previous title. Now, I rarely actually buy games for above £10, but would I teoretically spend more money on let's say "Uncharted 4"/The Last of Us, [a hypothetical] Killzone 4 or more appropriately CoD5 and AC3 - DEFINATELY.

It's appalling how much hype these annuals get; there's definately nothing wrong with either CoD or AC, but damn, you're ruining it for the exciting, promising and original IPs (Yes, yes, everything's been done, grain of salt and all that).

@ #2 , where the hell have you been for 5 years? Call of Duty has been an annual franchise for almost 6 years now.

Why the fuck do people care if they make a new game each year? If they are good they are good and if they are bad they wont sell and have to change if the developers and publishers want their money.

That argument doesn't wash with me, just look at the COD and AC games. Ever since they went down the yearly release route each game has gotten progressively more and more buggy. AC3 has had two whopping great patches in less than a month, BLOPS 2 has had 3 in almost as many weeks and they're both still buggy as heck and near unplayable at times from what I've been reading.

All I care about the annual releases as long as they keep the games fresh. A few have achieved success with annual/2 studio releases and some have failed.

If it means I don't have to wait another 7 years for another Hitman game, I'm all for it. 2 developers, both with experience on the project, doesn't mean we're going to see an annual Hitman release.. it just means we might see a new game every 2 or 3 years, instead of 7.

I'm very down with 2 or 3 years; my main gripe is that they've seen the MONETARY success these other franchises have had and might want to cash in on that as well.
