2K Games has announced that NBA 2K13 has broken franchise sell-through records during its first week on sale, beating the series' "previous fastest-seller", NBA 2K11. In fact 2K's sales figures note that the latest instalment in the NBA 2K series has shifted 49% more copies than NBA 2K11.

“This record-shattering growth is due in part to the expanding global popularity of the NBA 2K brand, which accounted for a 66% increase in international sales
as compared with NBA 2K11,” 2K stated.

Further to these record-breaking sales figures, the number of online players for NBA 2K13 has doubled since NBA 2K12, with online games increasing by 127%. “Our early sales figures are a validation of our ongoing efforts to push this franchise to new heights,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We owe it to our great fans to continually improve our title – year in and year out – and that’s exactly what we’ve done with NBA 2K13.”

  • Easy to see how. At the midnight release only about 20 people were there for RE6 there were easily60-80 for 2K13
  • i wonder how many were previous die hard live fans?its good to see salt getting rubbed into ea's wounds lol with the madden exclusive license
  • I am proud of 2ksports it just goes to show that hard work and actual effort pays off in the long run. I am sure the nfl is extremely angry that they do not have these sales records at all. Maybe they should forget ea and sign 2k.
  • @ 5 FUCK OFF!! I am also not your "buddy!"
  • hope they patch the rosters soon.the recent one took away Scalabrine and added no one.they need to add 2nd rounders,Rasheed Wallace,Kareem,Dr J,and Chris Webber.
  • Really? Shoe ads? I hate those bots :/ Not a big sports fan, but I'm glad 2k is killing the live franchise. Now if only they were able to get a crack at football again.
  • @3, some of us have been waiting years for 2K to challenge Madden again. This is expected. This is a great NBA series. My only gripes are 1)Player faces in most cases are WAY off. Humphries looks like he just got divorce papers. Nowitzki looks haggard. 2)Recycled trophies, though i finally got the 5 x5 one!
  • Still think 2K12 is the much better game. I'm not a fan of Virtual Coins to purchase everything, it's ruined the whole thing now. It wouldn't have been so bad if they weren't incredibly scarce and hard to acquire without grinding. Gameplay seems to have improved in some areas (your AI team mates now actually attack the basket and shoot) whilst it's dipped in others (defending no longer exists now!). There's a couple of bugs also, so I'm leaving it sat there until a patch or 2 comes along, then I'll give it another go.
  • Although I'm not a fan of VC, I still think that overall 2K13 is a better game than 2K12. I'm sure the addition of Jay-Z didn't exactly hinder their marketing either. :p
  • Looking forward to check out the game eventually. Haha sucks for EA, thats what you get. Of course its going to sell like crazy, 2K has nothing to worry about competition.
