Boasting an enviable CV consisting of video game greats like Deus Ex and System Shock, Warren Spector is a man who knows what he's talking about when it comes to games and the industry at large. With over two decades making games under his belt, he has a thing or two to say when it comes to the medium.

As VP & Creative Director at Disney Interactive studio Junction Point, Spector is currently applying the finishing touches to Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. And post-E3 2012, Spector had a thing or two to say about the current state of video game violence and how it reflects upon the medium at large.

During an extended chat with Spector, we quizzed the video game veteran regarding his opinions on the state of video games and the excessive violence on display during E3 this year. As you'd expect, Spector offers some insightful words on the subject, making this interview a must-watch. So watch it!

I object on the grounds that he thought there was nothing wrong with Epic Mickey's camera, claiming that every game gets the camera wrong and that everyone complaining "misunderstood" the game. Furthermore, I submit that he's now nothing more than a washed up joke and has absolutely no idea what he's talking about anymore.

after watching this video. Let me say, that it seems all that he is saying is because he us upset that his game is not getting the same attention that other games are getting. You can almost resume this video with this: "That game with a girl in a miniskirt, or the other game with awesome graphics are getting more attention than my game with Mickey Mouse, thats not fair. Its Mickey, people! look at it! forget those other childish gimmick games. Look at my mickey game!"

wtf is he talking about?

15 years ago there were a lot of games that celebrated excessive violence, and most of them were awesomly great. But nowadays games have to be oh-so PC, we kill hordes of zombies instead hordes of humans, there's more cencoring then ever (I'm furiously pissed cos of my EU NGS+ not having beheadings like the US version)

Remember Carmageddon? I loved driving that car into the football stadium and running over every single player on both teams there, but oh, then they made a cencored version because of Germany & Holland where it was a horde of zombies we ran over, with green blood on top of it all. And ever since, it's been going downhill when it comes to excessive brutality in games.
Why do we even have a rating system when everything gets so watered down.

But...enough of that. Not here to complain, I actually look forward to trying this game as it looks cool, and I missed out on the first one, which many of my friends claim is very good.

can't say much about Epic Mickey since i didn't play it but i wish Warren would just return making groundbreaking FPS games like he used to because shooters are getting stale.
