Well that is cool, no more expensive dlc or premium service. I am still thinking tho that this is not enough for me to reverse my decision to never buy a crytek game again. Until they remove their support for the used game block I don't think I can spend any money on them.

Of course this sounds too good to be true, they have to make money somewhere.
You will still have to pay to unlock the full game's features, probably through a membership fee or micro-transactions. So eventually you might end up paying even more than normal to play their game.
It's just a different way of 'milking customers to death'.

This is the least they can do after I gave them an extra $20 for maps that no one ever plays on. Crysis 2 was great but their DLC support was shit. No extra XP, no trophy support, no extras outside of 1 extra gun so 90% of people weren't as dumb as me and purchased them.

@2 Too true. I can see the scenario already; 2-3 hours to download the core game and then two minutes in...
"Oh, you want a weapon? Please visit the store"
"For more ammo please visit the store"
"To save your progress you will need to buy the 'Save Progress' module, please visit the store"
"You want to join up with your friends? You need the 'Join Friends' module, please visit the store"
If I wanted to play a shitty micro-transaction-based games I'd play Farmville or one of the umpteen other piles of turd which infest Facebook and mobile devices.
Another duff move by Crytek, time they left the console sector alone again and pissed off back to PC-land.

Lets not be quick to forget that these are te same arseholes who said used games should be eradicated, they say this now out of worry as so many people said fuck you crytek I'll never buy another game you make again. Safe to say they are trying to tempt people bal with "freebies". I pity anyone who falls for this tripe, funny how it doesn't include their next big 3 games isn't it

And how do they plan to get their $30M back?
Rented weapons, maps and other microtransactions which are essential do enjoy the game which sum up to more than a MMO-subscription? In-game advertisement?
Do they really believe people are that dumb to buy this?
But nice to see them overthinking their stance at used games ... with just making everybody pay to play.

Lee I think you made a mistake. From what I heard "All of Crytek's Future Games Will be Timesplitters."

This makes no sense. First these guys came out saying they hoped all future consoles would block used games, as anyone not buying new was, essentially, a freeloading pirate.
Now they would have us believe they are going to spend 30 million to make a game, only to give it away for free?
Obviously the sense is, as others have rightly pointed out, free base game and microtransaction the customer to death.
Hey Crytek, how about I save you the trouble and just avoid all your games completely?

@12 It does make sense, because making the games free means they will all be downloadable (probably download only) and certainly anything you pay for in-game will be tied to your PSN/XBLA account, which means that this effectively kills the used market for their games.
It means they think they can make more money through microtransactions, or at least that they're willing to take that risk in order to get control of their used sales back.
I don't know if it will work for them, but it does at least fit with their no-used-games hopes.

I think the quality of Crysis 2 (and how the pc version suffered because of it,even with the patch) and the quality of the console port of Crysis 1 was more than enough reason for everyone to say "fuck you we're never buying your games again" lol

Not surprising that more devs are wanting to switch to a F2P digital model. They generally will make more money of it because there is no used market, and on the average players will probably spend more than if they bought it normally... it's easier to get players to spend a dollar or two every once in a while than $60 at once. Over time it will add up but for players there is the option to bow out of the game before you spend too much. It will really depend on what kind of microtransactions they'll have.

#19, Free-to-Play meens its you do not have to buy it, you can just download and play, but you have to pay for in-game stuff like guns, arors, skins, perks, etc for the game to be good and for you to get an advantage

I'm choosey about my games. I'll spend $60 if I really think I'll enjoy it. I'm not a trophy whore but I do like the challenge of getting trophies. But I pass on the microtransaction BS... you pay more in the end than had it been a $60 with $15 DLC.
You can't give poduct away without making money. That said I bet Sony loves microtransactions from the PSN... cause they take a cut.

Free-to-Play Games are all the rage online now. They would make more money in the long run with the micro-transactions. You would not have to buy the item to play the game, but they give you a certain edge, be it Stronger Armor or A Much More Powerful Gun. Kids will be spending mommie & daddy's money hand over fist to run around saying, "This .... Weapon". As long as it doesn't involve competitive multi-player, I'm fine with it.

Wait a second, just thought about it. Crytek thinks some companys are milking people to death......What the hell do they think the video game block on the next gen systems will do? It forces us to pay more money for a used game then what we should be. Same damn difference has premium service and stuff. Damn hypocrites.

Why are you people bitching about their used game opinion? Almost any new online game you either have to buy new or buy the online pass for, so it really makes no difference. Also, the whole concept of micro transactions is a good theory, but, they make billions of money from a single game, they could probably live without micro transactions, therefore. I support them, only time will tell.

Why does everyone hate them just because they said they hate used games? That's their opinion, and considering they are in the business where most gamers are not, what makes your opinion that theirs is wrong better? Gaming has the most juvenile crowd, and I don't mean age-wise.
Game development is a business just as much as owning a restaurant or some other service; they'd be fools to say they aren't concerned about profit. The real problem seem with 'milking' is with Call of Duty, where they make over $1 billion easy but then don't innovate their work to reflect their successes or thank the customers for making them a success.

They think the current model milks consumers too much (and to be fair, it's only crappy publishers that milk us too much; you don't see anyone complaining when Rockstar puts out GTA or Red Dead DLC because that is some quality stuff that's worth your money rather than disc locked bullshit). So they're going to switch to a model that milks us even more?
Sense: that makes none. Here's a better idea, Crytek: if you want to stop milking consumers, stop letting EA publish your games. And if you can't stop working with EA... Sorry, you will NEVER stop milking your customers because EA will never let you stop.

Though I do understand all these companies take on ending used game sales, every time i buy a game i try to see if the $ spent is worth it for the game.
Anyways, this....is what caught my attention:
"I hope they end used game sales...Devs will be able to survive and a lot more and better games will be made."

sorry i think id rathr spend 60 dollars on the game and own it out-right rather than whatever BS scheme they are gonna come up with to recop the money for making it free. Probaly be like the free movie service "cant think of the name" where every 10 minutes you gotta watch a several minute advertisement. So you will be in a crucial part of the game and "here comes a word from our sponsor" lol no thanks crytek

If you gave me $400 to work on a game, and I gave it my all as I was HIRED TO DO, you wouldn't get a better product by paying me an extra $200. I'm just sayin'.
You're talking online games. This is regular console games we're talking about. Used game blocking won't just stop games from being re-sold: it'll take away some of the profit stores make out of used games, it'll make it harder for more people to get a given company's games and become a "loyal customer" (hence hurting the sales instead), and forget lending games to friends or getting a game lent to you by a friend. That's not gonna happen anymore. Crytek is supporting something that goes against what's been part of gaming culture since it began.
