Assassin's Creed Concept Art Shows What Could Have Been

Ubisoft has released a gallery of early concept art for Assassin's Creed, showing off how the game could have looked and played.

One of the images, of the assassin rescuing a child, reveals that the art team originally thought they were working on a Prince of Persia title. "We were all under the illusion that we were making a Prince of Persia: Sands of Time spin-off," said artist Khai Nguyen. "The assassin was supposed to be the little prince's bodyguard."

Another image shows two horses racing side-by-side. Nguyen adds, "We debated whether or not co-op was going to make it into the first game.”

Have a look below, there’s some beautiful images in there. They date from November 2004, three years before the first Assassin’s Creed hit shelves.

This would have been interesting. Whose to say they can't return to this age of time after they've released AC III?

It would have been cool to bring some of those screenshots depicting Petra, in Jordan, to life. that's a fantastic place.

Some really nice artwork =) One of the main reasons I ever got into Assassins Creed was because of Prince of Persia, really wish Ubisoft would make another one after they finish up AC3.

Honestly, Petra would have been a very interesting setting for an AC game, hope they'll come back to that idea.

I've always said that playing AC (1 & 2 haven't tried others) feels like the proper extension of where they'd taken PoP series (before the reboot) & I had kinda accepted the AC series as an indirect continuation of POP's gameplay, in a whole new setting

ACIII is looking really awesome and I'm excited for it... but what about working on the sequel to the 2008 Prince of Persia, or Mirror's Edge?

We don't need yearly releases of Assassin's Creed.
