The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim DLC Patch Files Point to Snow Elves

An industrious Skyrim fan has been rummaging around in the patch files for update 1.5.26, unearthing information associated with 'DLC01' that suggests the first batch of DLC for the epic RPG will feature Snow Elves, crossbows, new vampire feeding animations, a Snow Elf Prince and something with an 'RF' prefix.

The fan posted his findings on the Bethesda Forums, leading to speculation that Skyrim's first DLC will be focusing on the Snow Elves and the Falmer. From here on out, there'll be spoilers, so read on at your peril if you haven't played or finished Skyrim. The Snow Elves are a lost race of mer (elf) who lived in Skyrim before the Nords, until they were driven underground to become slaves to the ancient dwarven Dwemer race.

The Nords usurped the Snow Elves' dominion over Skyrim, sending them underground where they were forced to survive on fungi that turned the Snow Elves blind, commencing their devolution into the twisted Falmer, a race of hunched subterranean scavengers. You may also remember one of the Thieves Guild quests ending in a water-filled cavern dominated by a giant Snow Elf statue.

Crossbows and vampire feeding animations are also thought to be part of the DLC, while 'RF' is rumoured to be the initials of a new companion character. Bethesda is hoping to announce the first Skyrim DLC next week, according to the company's VP of Marketing and PR, Pete Hines.

@2 that would be epic.
Does this dlc come free with the patch, or is it payed DLC. I'm assuming the latter.

Gave my game away after completion, so hope the dlc is worth rebuying the game for. Would be awesome if they could release all the dlc stand alone like Rockstar did with GTA4's dlc's.

#6 Lol easy there Cran... easy. This is not The Witcher 2.

#4 I don't think it's free. Giving away DLC's is very rare.

@4

Its not uncommon for big games to include small framework patches in advance within smaller patches.To see how the current game reacts in advance as well as resulting in a smaller overall download size when the DLC finally hits.This is most likely part of the first paid DLC that will be announced hopefully next week.

I'm betting the vampire animations will be free and maybe even the crossbows because they said they'd be giving us little things like that free of charge in updates. The Snow Elf stuff is more then likely going to be paid though.

Bethesda has stated that there will be a lot of free content inbetween major downlaodable content. Unfortunetly they have yet to say whether we'll be getting just downloadable content, or "if" we'll actually get an expansion as well.

Personally growing up in gaming I would rather have an expansion then just some downloadable content. Still nonetheless it is good to know that at the very least Bethesda is trying to remain legit, and fix some of errors that this industry has occured more then recently.

Also.. It's lycanthrope, Nakatomi_Uk. You hope to see them actually release the teased lycanthrope skill branch.

Personally? I'm just pleased with Bethesda. Which that in and of itself is amazing enough considering how horribly Bethesda handled publishing "RAGE", and how Bethesda has been handling other IPs, and generally running their business. I have not been this pleased with Bethesda since the days of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Now if they would just get rid of the horrid voice acting all together, and give me my fuckin' text box back.

"Text Box > Voice Acting"

Easy solution. Turn on subtitles and mute the TV.

timewarp,

I have a name - However, "muting" the telivision set, and turning on subtitles is nowhere near the same. Text box's have always been far superior to voice acting.

@15, isn't there an option to turn the voice volume down? And las suggested above, just enable the subtitles.
