Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Tekken Will Never Do Paid DLC Characters, Says Harada

Tekken's characters are like "chess pieces" according to Tekken Producer, Katsuhiro Harada, who considers the franchise's fighters as an "essential" aspect of the game. Therefore, Harada has stated that he'll never do paid DLC characters for the Tekken series.

His comments follow recent controversy surrounding the discovery that Street Fighter X Tekken had its dozen planned DLC fighters already present on the game disc, but Harada assured that his comments are in no way meant as an attack on Capcom.

"Tekken has never had DLC before and charged for it," he told Edge. "This isn’t really directed at Capcom, I have always said this, but I see the characters and their move sets as chess pieces - they are essential items necessary in the game and we would never sell any of those individually."

Harada would still consider paid DLC in the future however, but it would only be for in-game vanity items like unique clothing for your Tekken characters. A character may be offered as pre-order DLC, but it would then be made available as post-launch content at a later date and it'd be free, he said.

In other Tekken news, the embargo lifting on Namco Bandai's Gamers Day event has seen 33 new screenshots emerging for Tekken Tag Tournament 2. You can check out a handful of the screens below, then pore over all 33 in the gallery. It's out in September 2012.

Harada is such a awesome person. Maybe a Pre-order DLC character for future tekken games, that would later be released on the PSN for free? How many other companies would do that? Pretty much none.

Wish more developers would take note of that!

Crapcom always charge shit that is already on the disc. I've lost respect for them in all honesty. This Tekken Producer is a smart man though. :)

@4: I'm not even buying SFxT, but definitely gonna buy TxSF

Capcom is only in business for the money, but other companies still have a love for games and gamers, so the less games from Capcom we buy, the sooner that company will be off the map, but we all know that's never gonna happen

A man with old school values, I like it... and miss it. I miss last gen when unlocking characters and costumes was based on either skill or commitment whether it be mastering the hardest difficulty or completing certain criteria... nowadays Capcom wants your dollar, not your skill, in unlocking content.

@16 brandaman69 You're actually showing your ignorance by using -san in comparison of two people. By saying a person is better than another and using the same honorific for both, you have eliminated the purpose of using said honorific because it literally becomes contradictory to the statement it is used in and therefore meaningless speech. Furthermore by using the honorific in impolite/informal speech, what you say sounds like you're being sarcastic and disrespects anyone you may have talking about unless you were saying it in a joking way. -san is often used as an equivalent to Mr. in our language because you mostly use it for people who are older than you, otherwise you'd use a different honorific like -kun or something. Basically what you said is "Mr. Ono is cooler than Mr. Harada". No would use Mr. that way because people know it's mixing formality with informal speech. People would just use the first/last names or full names to makes such an informal statement. So yes, you fit into a category similar to a weeaboo. I wouldn't say you're obsessed but you're not knowledgeable enough to use it properly or aren't thinking it through.

This is really good to hear, I wish more developers had this perspective when it came to their games; especially with fighters that have been around for a while and boast a large character roster...

This is how you sell games, not by ripping them off with stuff they allready paid for. Also a great way gaining fans, not losing them.
