Set after the 2009 movie, the Star Trek video game currently under development at The Darkness II studio Digital Extremes has been given a new teaser trailer today, showing Captain Kirk and Spock engaging in some action-packed set pieces in the game's explosive third-person co-op adventure, which bridges the gap in preparation for the forthcoming JJ Abrams-directed sequel.
Kirk and Spock each have their own weapons and abilities, as well as branching paths in the narrative that make playing as each character a different experience. Spock will have his Vulcan mind meld ability to turn enemies into allies, while Kirk will be able to set his phaser to kill or stun. Hence, Spock will be a more strategic thinking man's character (it's only logical, Captain) while Kirk will be more of an all-out offence kind of guy.
Check out the teaser trailer below for a glimpse at some Star Trek gameplay, then look forward to the game's arrival on the teleportation deck (or whatever it's called) in early 2013, with full stereoscopic 3D support on PS3 [via PS Blog]. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for Shatner and Nimoy skins in the meantime. Thankyouverymuch.
